Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Our stats:
Weight: I don't know, probably about 19lb.
Teeth: 3, with #4 trying to poke through
Eats: Most things that we eat, favourites are baked potato with beans and cheese, banana and Christmas cake.
Milk: Formula for breakfast, 4.30pm and bedtime. Drinks lots of water from a cup (with spout) but refuses milk from one.
Mobility: Crawling at break neck speed, standing herself up without holding on, walking a bit but not completely let go yet.
Language: Doy doy doy doy doy doy: I'm thinking hard, babababababababa or mamamamamamama: I want something, and the loveliest thing in the world - she'll cuddle and say Aaaaaaaaah.
Activities: Climbing in and out of the kitchen cupboard, breaking up DD1's jigsaws, splashing in any drip of water she can find (including DD1's potty of wee last week - bleugh!), playing peebo, cuddling anything remotely soft.
Sleep: 8-8

babydriver · 24/01/2008 22:18

Hi folks!

Stats for us:
Weight: no idea. biceps say he's definitely growing.
Teeth: 8 - 4 top, 3 bottom, 1 molar
Eats: anything except avocado. Supplemented by raw vegetables pulled out of the veg basket, and random cubes of dry cat food.
Milk: formula before breakfast and last thing at night. Will be moving across to whole (goat's) milk gradually from tomorrow.
Mobility: v fast crawling esp if any door is open. Cruising. Will stand for a millisecond before buckling.
Language: "ca" (cat); "dow" (down); "quack", "moo". bit of mummmm and dadadadad but pretty random.
Activities: big sloppy kisses and hair-grabbing cuddles, escaping, searching for flexes & plug sockets, climbing, bumping his chin, waving bricks in air excitedly, destroying brothers' creations.
Sleep: 7:45ish through to 6:15.

suzi2, for non-shoe foot covering, you could have a look at the muddy puddles website - they have waterproof bootees. DS2 has some which go with his waterproof all-in-one which is great for crawling in the park. When they get older, the waterproof dungarees are really good.

DCMY, I have an Ergo and it's fab, so do keep trying. I've tended to try and put the waistband bit on, then crouch down and get DS2 on my back, wiggle about a bit to get him in but it isn't easy if I'm alone. They do have a website though with videos about how to do everything.

DontCallMeYummy · 25/01/2008 19:19

See - all babies are different (apart from the bus-flirting thing). Now I feel a bit better about Don't Call My Mummy Yummy's inability to sleep a whole night as he makes up for it by giving me a lie-in until 9am. So many mums beat themselves up about keeping up with the Baby Joneses re milestones, teeth, sleep etc when in reality in some respects your baby is going to be a highly intelligent angel, yet in others is a bit of a dunderhead. We had a dunderhead moment the other day when I let DCMMY play in my half-unpacked suitcase in order to get 2 minutes of peace - after approx 20 seconds I turned round to find him (and the rest of the contents of the case) covered in an avocado that my mum had snuck in there in an attempt to boost our vitamin intake. Vitamins all over my pants - Duuuuuuuunderhead!

Here's a question for you to ponder over this weekend - were you to discover an 8 months pregnant burglar in your home with the intention of relieving you of some baby items, which one or two things would you have you whacking her on the head with an In the Night Garden DVD case over - and which things would you gladly pop in her Mamas and Papas swag bag?

She could gladly have had all my breast pump paraphenalia and 'baby expert' books that make you depressed but any attempts to swipe my Tummy Tub or Plum Baby porridge would result in a swift Upsy Daisy to the nose.

peachygirl · 25/01/2008 19:35

I would enter into a fight for my coorie!

DontCallMeYummy · 25/01/2008 21:23

Peachy is that a euphemism?

suzi2 · 25/01/2008 22:58

I change my mind a lot, but at the moment I'd attack her for touching DDs booster high chair thingy (only place we can pin her down!) and her dancing pingu toy (only way to keep her vaguely still for a nappy change!). She could have all the bottles we have as DD enjoys emptying them out the cupboard but still won't drink out of them. And she could have any plastic backed bibs too - DD likes to spill and spit water and it just all runs down onto her trousers with one on!

Most of my useless baby stuff (like top & tail bowl and bumbo!) has already left the house.

We have a tooth trying to get through here (finally!) so DD is grouchier than usual. Wish you could explain to them as I feel so bad for her.

OP posts:
peachygirl · 26/01/2008 20:17

suzi I really like the bumbo but I admit I wouldn't fight over it.
My coorie is my fleecy pouch sling. Whatever were you thinking DCMY?

SmudgeMum · 28/01/2008 14:09

BabySuzi2 - don't leave us as the only ones with no teeth. DS been grotty since last Thursday with a temp, cough etc etc but I can't see any blardy teeth.
DCMY - i would beat anyone over the head who tried to take away our stacky cups or the fish that stick to the bottom of the bath to stop it being slippy. Preglar (Pregnant Burglar, get it?) would be welcome to bouncy chair, baby shoes and baby brush as DS still has no hair!!!

MoosMa · 28/01/2008 15:34

Preglar (I like it!) would be welcome to the bath thermometer (I have a perfectly good hand) and all the teethers in the world (T has a perfectly good hand!). I would beat her to within an inch of her preglife if she'd dared to touch the bouncy chair (although we don't use it anymore and the mice in the loft nibbled it so I killed them! [psycho]) or anything to do with my tots bots nappies!

suzi2 · 28/01/2008 22:12

They're still not here smudgemum. They're a bit lumpy so I can't even see the teeth from the top anymore either. She has the most horrid bum though so they must be coming soon. Still no hair here either. I think she's even later than DS who's still a bit sparse in the hair dept at 2.5! She's an awful head scratcher and is scabbed all over and scratches it until she's pouring with blood. Dr said it was because her hair was coming in and it itches... not sure if that's true as there's still no hair!

OP posts:
SmudgeMum · 29/01/2008 19:40

oooh, Moosma. Can we swap you then? We've got 2 bouncy chairs which are non-nibbled and a bath thermometer that is getting tired. I know I've got a perfectly good hand but I worry that if I'm cold, then I'll make the bath the wrong temp etc.
Suzi2 - sounds strange about hair itching as it comes through but who knows? It's not like we can ask them. DS has been pulling at his ears lots but I don't know if it's earache or teething as he's got a chesty cough/snot nose

CurrantBun · 30/01/2008 14:37

Preglar (love it!) would be very welcome to our top and tail bowl (used approximately once), Avent Magic Cup (DS never managed to get a single drop of water out of it!)scratch mitts (never scratched, so didn't need them), and baby monitor (we have a small house, so don't need it - also hearing every last murmur just makes you paranoid).

She would have to fight me for the bouncy chair (which he's sadly way too big for now), bath support, his stacking cups (his absolute favourite toy), and I hate to say it but a certain person's Contented Little Baby books, especially the weaning one which I found an absolute lifesaver. Oh, and she can't have my Annabel Karmel recipe books either!

peachygirl · 30/01/2008 19:28

Another fan of the bouncy chair here and we use a bath thermometer too.

daizydoo · 01/02/2008 08:14

Greetings from a sunny South Africa!! Before you start pelting me with wet washing or dirty nappies, I would just like to say that Christmas in a tent inthe pouring rain is not much fun, especially with a small child!! Anyone know how to get mould out of clothes!??!

Can I just add our stats we are a bit behind the times here!
Our stats:
Age: 11.5 months
Weight: 24lb 2 months ago!
Teeth: 6
Eats: Will eat anything thats been liquidised - will try anything that he's seen us put in our mouths, so we're getting there! Especially likes raw veg and fruit.
Milk: BF on demand still. Drinking in the night like a 3 month old at the moment Drinks water from a beaker.
Mobility: pulls himself up and walks round the furniture, but will NOT let go! This is the same child who will climb anything without regard for safety !?
Language: He babbles away but the only disguishable word is dad/daddy and he will copy what you say. Whoopsadaisy is my personal fav! He also says a couple of Afrikaans words much to the delight of the family!! (he refuses to say mama, even though we know that he says it!!)
Activities: climbing, playing with my nintendo, peekaboo, going on his swing and looking at his books, being the centre of attention. He will scream if ignored when there are alot of people around! He also likes playing with spoons!
Sleep: You are having a laugh! Currently wont sleep in his cot and wakes up about 5-6 times between 7pm and 6am!!

Is anyone else feeling sad that their little baby has gone? Having said that its great to see what they do next!

Looking after a baby in South Africa is completely different to the UK. I'm seen as an ultra-healthy mum cos I limit DS's salt & sugar intake! They have salt & sugar in all their baby food and the only baby snacks are biscuits! Also we're seen as odd as we insist that he goes in his car seat when out in the car. Anyhow we are having a good time here and DS is enjoying meeting and getting to know his family out here.

Oh by the way the Preglar (great word) can have my mittens and bath thermometer, but I will fight for my grobags and real nappies!

Sallyallyally · 01/02/2008 12:17

Hellooooooo

Like the stats.

Age 11 1/2 months
weight 26lbs 3rd Jan
Eats Anything from his sisters plate...from moussaka to curry, but rarely from his own.. Walks around sucking on Ellas kitchen fruit/veg pouches for snacks.
Says.. Hello (Haroo), mum, daddeee, ta, mmm (moo), ssss (snake), this, whastha, (whats that). screams loudly and indignantly if someone tries to remove a treasure (e.g stapler, permanent marker, wine glass)
Walks...crawls when tired.
Sleeps...nope! Breastfeeds maybe once in the day and about 8 times at night..wakes every hour to two hours.
Milk....Breast and whole cows milk
Funny stuff....Cackles like the grandma in Catherine Tate..oh I don't know....funny all the time aren't they at this age. Very tired but loving it .
Lovely stuff....lots and lots and lots of cuddles, kisses and 'ahhhhh' when he does it.

Half term week after next...going to Paris with DD (age 8) and Henry...and the old man of course....any tips on where to stay, what to see (apart from really obvious!!!), places to eat (my fave) would be very gratefully received.
