Thought I'd start a thread to give somewhere for Jem, Washersaurus and Bresha to discuss their little ones and make all those of us waiting impatiently jealous!

Who will be next??????

morning folks - hope the next fews days are ok pink - i know it can be really hard without your dh, even if they are out at work all day, its nice to know they can help out (although going by some people's stories maybe not all do) when they do get back.

having been very good up until now, dh is now starting to get a little bit annoying with his comments - i dont always get lots done in the house, but i'm not sitting watching telly all day, so his comments about what needs to be done when he gets home are getting annoying.

and we visited his parents yesterday and his mum just gets under my skin so much, which ends up with me getting cross with him when we get home.

anyway better go and get dh's socks washed before he complains again.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 29/10/2007 10:38

Hope you have a nice time Gill.

Well, it looks as if he's dropped one of his night feeds, which is great! He slept from 9.30pm, woke up ravenous at 4am, then woke up at 7am but I brought him in bed with us, went to give him a breastfeed but he fell asleep before I got my boob out so I think he was probably just a bit lonely. Then he slept til 9.30am when we got up and had his morning feed, and he's now er... asleep in his bouncy chair!

Don't know why he's so tired but I'm not complaining that's for sure.

Is anyone going to be taking their lo's to see the fireworks on bonfire night? or do you think they'd be scared?

conkertree · 29/10/2007 10:47

sounds good banana - ds was sleeping well with waking once a night until last week when his skin started bothering him, and for the last week he's been waking up 4 or 5 times a night.

am trying not to get bothered by it as that probably makes it worse but ended up taking him into bed last ngiht as just couldntg keep my eyes open to try and sooth him otherwise. and he almost always falls straight asleep when he's cuddled. i love cuddling him, but it does mean i dont sleep as well.

think we might try and find somewhere to watch some fireworks that isnt close enough that the bangs are really loud, but so that he can see the colours.

anybody going to a halloween party, and if so, what are you dressing your babies as?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 29/10/2007 11:02

Aaw, what's wrong with his skin, conker? eczema? James is still suffering terribly with a blocked nose at night, but goes nuts when I try to put drops in/use nasal aspirator. It's annoying as I can see the offending bogeys right there but not allowed to help him, so just have to listen to him snuffle and struggle. Not fun.

I think the thing with men is that they think their lives are so much more important and difficult than ours! And you just know that if you flounced out and left them with the baby, the housework, the laundry and the cooking, you'd come back to a screaming stinking starving baby, a messy house now adorned with dirty cups and toastcrumb covered plates, and a nicely warm tv...

I want to take James to see the fireworks, loud music, dogs barking, motorbikes firing up etc don't seem to bother him. I suppose we'd just have to take him and see, then walk back to the car if he's scared.

conkertree · 29/10/2007 12:08

think its likely he has eczema cause i have since childhood. it was realy inflamed all over his chest and his face and head. he was definately in pain cause after taking calpol he was fine for a while.

in the middle of the night he'd wake up, feed then scratch his head so much he'd be screaming. tried to get him to sleep with my hand on his head to stop him scratching, but then found some scratch mits so put them on and it seems to work.

lots of creams from the gp and stuff for his bath and i think its helping. but poor wee boy was so miserable for a few days. think he's getting better though.

think i have less energy to tidy up, and also less patience when dh starts getting arsey becuase i've had less sleep as well in the last week or so. but have spent a fair amount of time tidying today (cause i prefer it tidier too - just dont like being told to do it) so maybe everyone will be in a better mood tonight.

with the fireworks, loud noises havent bothered ds either so maybe i will try him reasonably close- glasgow does an amaxing fireworks display - really huge display.

pinkrangernowwobbles · 29/10/2007 12:12

Hi ladies, Conker - is his skin all right ?

Men are all the bloody same, even with all the goings on here my dh still has the check to ask whats for dinner every night and have i ironed his trouser! - simple answer NO I BLOODY HAVENT
Miracle night here last night, Tate took 7oz at 9.30, went to bed at 11.00 and didn't wake up again until 6.40 - couldn't believe it, know it wont happen tonight!
Are any LO still in Moses baskets? Mine is and am transferring to cot and the weekend, really nervous about it and i dont know why? - still unsure if to leave cot in his room or put it in ours?

pinkrangernowwobbles · 29/10/2007 12:15

Conker - My DS1 had eczema when he was a baby, we were advised to stay away from all Johnson's products and that helped him loads, we only use organic now on DS2 - its called green baby but had no probs with it so far!

We are going to fireworks, there is a free one not that far the DS1 loves going to and when you think about it you dont actually get that many any more

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 29/10/2007 12:34

Conker, aaw I feel so sorry for him having to deal with eczema at such an early age, doesn't seem fair does it? I've always had quite bad eczema, James hasn't shown any signs yet but I'm being fairly careful with him, I bath him in my oilatum bath oil (for eczema) and use fragrance free baby wipes, I use a tiny bit of sudocrem after each poo as a preventative measure against rashes, and put e45 on his face every day as he gets a bit of dry skin.

Sometimes you have to use a bit of something soapy though, don't you? I don't know about anyone elses baby but James gets really sweaty feet and armpits. Lovely, eh?

My2WooooooooooGhouls · 29/10/2007 12:50

afternoon everyone

pikn - glad to hear you are feeling a bit better and had a break - i've got to be out the door by 8.10 4 days a week to drop off dd1 at childminders and i've lost count of the times that i've gone out with soaking hair/jammies on under my coat . fortunately childminder is also a hairdresser so she does dd1's hair for me

conker - sorry to hear about his eczema - it's horrible.

we were given oilatum for dd1 skin but i found that it turned all her bath toys a funny colour and it's very difficult to get off the bath.

we 've moved dd2 to the travel cot in our room - and so far she sleeps great in it - though she is still a noisy sleeper (apart from ear plugs has anyone got any tips on sleeping through the rustling, farting, moaning, snoring, thumpimping legs onto mattress, snorting etc etc??)

...and men!! my DP has just phoned to say he's coming home to work this afternoon - so that means i'll get nothing done.

tasha21 · 29/10/2007 12:56

hiya, conker aww bless him dd2 had it and i was also advised to say away from johnsons and even baby pure babywipes and it worked.
i had a brilliant night last night too lo had a feed about 1am and slept through till 8 i couldn't believe it but he downed a full 3oz bottle without stopping for a break. had homestart out today volenteer seems really nice. im gonna take the boys to see the firework as i know the 2 older ones will love it

tasha21 · 29/10/2007 12:59

i had a laugh the other night dp was holding lo and realised that he had a dirty bum, he asked me to go up and get him a nappy, i said get it yourself, he says im holding bradley, wat does he think i do during the day

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 29/10/2007 13:00

Hah, I know what you mean about them being noisy sleepers, James makes allsorts of noises in the night, sounds a bit like a guinea pig crossed with a creaky door. And we know when he's about to wake up because he always spends a minute having a good stretch, accompanied by a volley of loud farts.

Such a delicate flower, my child.

loler · 29/10/2007 13:23

I've got 4 families (10 under 5s and a bump in total) coming on sat to watch the fireworks at stately home we back onto. the idea is we'll be close enough to see them well but far enough the they will be quieter. last year we all went and lasted about 2 bangs! I think the babies will just sleep through the bangs it was the 2/3 year olds that were scared.

my dh doesn't make the annoying comments anymore - had a huge row about it last time with ds1. I don't think that he meant much by them, just didn't realise that they upset me.

It's our 8 year wedding anniversary today - funny how priorities change we only remembered last night. Left overs and pumpkin (the bit that was scooped out) for tea!

GillL · 29/10/2007 14:16

Had a good time at my friends but they were telling me how awful it was at work and everyone's stressed and miserable I'm praying that I get this other job. Two weeks to go til my interview.

Not taking ds to see the fireworks as he'll probably sleep through it and I'll just worry about him being cold. Will be taking dd though as she loves them.

Poor baby conker. Luckily we haven't had to deal with eczema but dd does get dry skin if we use any products like Johnsons. We started using Oilatum but it costs a fortune so we use Infacare bath oil which is really cheap for a huge bottle and Boots Extra Care (I think) soap, shampoo and moisturising cream.

My dh would never ask what's for dinner. He knows there's no way I'd get dinner ready looking after my 2. He makes me laugh sometimes when he tells me ds has a dirty nappy. I just tell him to change. Most of the time he still leaves it for me though. Often he will pretend not to notice until I do so I have to change it.

Ds isn't a noisy sleeper once he's in a deep sleep. He was very snorty in his first few weeks but I was so tired that it never bothered me and I was always able to get to sleep easily. He went into his cot at about 5 weeks but he's still in our room and will be til he's at least 6 months.

pinkrangernowwobbles · 29/10/2007 14:27

Hope you do get your new job GillL
was thinking about all the stuff that we have brought for baby and was wondering about everyone else, here are the questions i have

  1. Worst thing - Nothing as of yet as this is 2nd DC

  2. best thing - On top changer as really saves my back

  3. something that you have and need but wished yo had got a different one - Pram - got a maclearen stroller from birth but it sometimes trys to tip - gutted ( but i caved and went and got a buzz)
    any others?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 29/10/2007 14:41

Sorry I'm posting so much today but it's a quiet day!

Worst buys- cheap bottles which gave him wind. Massive box of johnsons baby products we can't use. Baby shoes.

Best buys- Tummy tub! The helium balloon he never tires of staring at/stroking reverently. The colourful winnie the pooh poster he stares at while being changed.

Wish I'd got a different.... sling. He doesn't like my freedom ring sling at all now.

My2WooooooooooGhouls · 29/10/2007 14:49

worst thing - hand knitted trousers, cardi and hat (from an older lady with cats - husband smokes and i think that the wool has been in her house for about 30 years - IT STINKS) well it did was ashed 5 times put on DD for a picture then binned as the smell still wasn't gone - it was lovely of the lady to knit them though....

best thing - wind chimes for tiny love gym and gliding chair

something need - still got DD1s buggy which is great but really like the quinny's

item that's still in original packaging and not used - swaddling blankek and baby bath

My2WooooooooooGhouls · 29/10/2007 14:51

yeah - what is the point of baby shoes???

conkertree · 29/10/2007 15:05

thanks for all the suggestions for eczema - got oilatum from gp and just using it in his baby bath (which we have found quite useful cause the bathroom is quite cold so we can bath him in the sitting room).

his god mother gave us a big basket of johnsons products, so think i will quietly put them to the back of the wardrobe and maybe give to somebody else at some point. ( although the only thing we'd really used on him so far was some baby oil)

worst thing - probably the baby products.
best thing - didymos sling and his boat mobile that he can watch for hours.
thing you need - maybe buggy - its quite heavy although i still havent seen one that i think would suit us better.

and yes baby shoes - got one pair as a present - they stayed on for about 10 seconds so have been consigned to a shelf.

Annie75 · 29/10/2007 15:57

Sneaking a quick minute online to join in

and:

worst thing: er, reusable nappies . Have only used them sporadically and hate the way they make her wet all the way through. must try harder... And baby bath. Useless plug and takes up far too much room. Much nicer to get in with her.

best: sling and night light which I can put on dim for night feeds.

something I wish I had bought differently. Um, prob the few nice clothes which have fiddly fastenings. She hates being dressed, so babygrows are only way to go for us.

tasha21 · 29/10/2007 16:41

best thing take along swing he loves swinging in it and looking at the bar doesnt look at the lights.
worst thing, shoes, and changing unit takes up to much space and only use it for storing nappies.
need double buggie but wish i had got a lighter smaller one

Ineedsomesleep · 29/10/2007 19:24

James, have you tried Snufflebabe for his nose? DD had the same problem and it sorted her out.

Sorry to hear about he eczema Conker, am I the only one who has only used water up to now and a tiny bit of nappy rash cream?

As for best and worst buys,

Best is my Mamas & Papas travel system we still had from DS. DD is sleeping in the travel cot by our bed.

Also good is my Close sling, she just loves it.

And the Tummy Tub. DS was scared stiff of the bath and really wish I'd bought one when I had him.

Worst was all the pretty frilly summer dresses we had as pressies when she was born. Some of them she never wore before she grew out of them as the weather was so crap.

Of to watch Corrie now. DD has fallen asleep on DH so I can have a bit of a break

mamamila · 30/10/2007 08:00

Hiya,

pink- glad you're ok. you had us worried there

banana- sorry you've been having a tough time too. at least james is sleeping more that'll make a big difference

we did dtp vaccine yesterday 2 weeks late and they didn't have the pneumo watsit one, had to order from netherlands and will hopefully have it next month.. you wouldn't believe the epic jurney just to get to clinic..

i got a puncture on hour long drive across island to airport and spare tyre was punctured too, had to wait on side of rd under a tree for someone to rescue me, took a dodgy 6 seater charter plane to the mainland, 45 min drive through crazy rds with car seat not properly attached so me feeling sick with anxiety. after waiting 30 mins at clinic dr announced they had run out of vaccines so i had to drive 30 mins across town to another clinic finally get jab after waiting another hour, then long and fast drive back to airport in rush hour traffic jams. Ingenius driver taking us down alleys and footpaths. via supermarket where i bought Huggies nappies at £13 a pack and treated myself to shredded wheat £4 for small box then back on a plane and another hour drive home in the dark. dodging africans cycling in dark clothing with no lights whilst being passed by cars with full beams and no mosquito net for carseat so trying to drive calmly whilst panicking about mozzies in the car

and the whole bloody debacle cost around £150 including fuel, flights, taxis and £50 for clinic. and we have to do that every month

on the upside dr removed ingrowing hairs on my c-section scar, eughh

and one funny moment, dp wouldn't like me to tell but he'll never know.. at the end of this trial of a day we some how got it on.. but at one point he rolled on to his back and i groaned in despair "oh no please don't make me go on top!" we both collapsed in hysterics, how romantic eh?!

mamamila · 30/10/2007 08:55

ooh and,

best things bought: tummytub, amby hammock, miracle blanket and baby bjorn sling. without these i think this baby would never sleep

worst: baby gym hasn't really proved value for money yet, i feel a bit silly now for spending £45 on a mat with a few dangly toys! maybe too many 0-3 months outfits, i squeezed her in to the pink ruffly number for last time yesterday

i wish we'd bought a bouncy chair in uk, although car seat does fine, and more toys

the pink mountain buggy pram is a bit underused here but still gives me a thrill evry time i pass it

shrinkingsagpuss · 30/10/2007 09:21

Hi all, nice to hear your exciting news,Mamamila, even if it wasn't fun for you! We should send you food packages!! I'm sure it would be cheaper to ship you stuff! Do you not use cotton nappies? perfect climate for easy drying?!

ok - best buys - cheap 2nd hand quinny pram and all the gubbins, £100, fantastic, looks good, lightweight etc....

worst buys - thse pink frilly dresses we were given - ok so technically they weren't a buy, but it breaks my heart to package them away. I am crap at selling on ebay, so I'll get no moeny for them either

Thing I'd like - play gym - DS hated being left on the floor, so we didn't get one. DD loves being on the floor, and I'm too mean to buy one!

and an extra... best thing from pregnancy... one thing you'd recommend to anyone getting or got pregnant....? Mine is arnica. I swear it saved me from feeling like I'd birthed an elephant!
