Thought I'd start a thread to give somewhere for Jem, Washersaurus and Bresha to discuss their little ones and make all those of us waiting impatiently jealous!

Who will be next??????

It seems the arrival of Summer has heralded the arrival of Summer!

SweetyDarling · 03/08/2007 09:14

Duh - arrival of Summer babies...

bananabump · 03/08/2007 13:07

Maybe they didn't like all the rain!

Come on baby, the sun is shining, the babygrows are folded, the freezer is stocked and my tits are unrecognisable. Come out!

growingbagpuss · 04/08/2007 08:35

is it just me... or are the only people posting on here hte ones who havent had babies?

Perhaps they don't want to be left out of the labour action!!

jem1969 · 04/08/2007 09:00

OK- I'll post!
All well here- Hannah is doing well and is putting on weight but not quite up to her birthweight yet. Cue lots of conflicting advice from doctors, MW and Health Visitors!
Had to go back to hospital on Thurs to follow up a couple of things. They took lots of blood and she screamed the place down and then yesterday they phoned to say they had lost the blood and could we come in again! Useless lot!
She had her first bath yesterday and seemed to be enjoy it. Also feeding better, at leat I think so, but only the scales will tell!
Feeding chair arriving today which I am very excited about- v sad!
Home alone for the first time today as DH is going to the rugby at Twickenham- I'm sure we'll cope!

MrsBadger · 04/08/2007 09:02

I'll join you Jem as DH is going to the rugby too...

growingbagpuss · 04/08/2007 09:57

oooh rugby? can I go? The jumping up and down might get things started... also the sheer excitement... of all those backsides in the scrum...

Glad Hannah is doing well - Ignore all those daft health profs, as long as she is gaining I wouldn't worry -she was a little prem, and its gonna take her a bit to catch herself up... when was she due?

Getting my "new" pram today... so we are excited too its amazing how sad you get at this stage in pregnancy/ newborn babe !!

Washersaurus · 04/08/2007 21:58

I'm here, I'm here!

Sorry, I have been busy feeding, feeding and more feeding trying to get LO to put some weight back on! He lost 11% of his birth weight by DAY 3 and the midwife was immediately recommending I top-up with formula (grrrrrr) despite him being a good healthy colour and obviously not dehydrated! (she was reading these recommendations of a flashcard FGS!)

Anyway, I knew it was because he was a bit mucusy (sp?) for the first couple of days and he has been feeding fine since and has now put some weight back on.

I just kept thinking of the pressure a first time mum in my situation would be under to use formula at such an early stage of breastfeeding, when they are supposed to promote and support it .....

Thank you all for your kind words about my post-birth photo with baby btw - you are all soooo polite

growingbagpuss · 05/08/2007 09:41

Polite has nothing to do with it love - I mght find one of my post birth ones from DS - Frightful!!

But then I think everyone else looks fine pregnant - me? NO! Photos are banned!!

growingbagpuss · 05/08/2007 10:41

Washy - I meant to say -I think we hold you as an honrary August delivery, on the basis that George was only a day early!!

Don't they all get funny about weight loss?!! Nothing like sending Mum into a panic hey? Good job its 2nd time round for you hey? I must admit, DS was so fat he never lost any weight at all - greedy little pig that he was... and if this LO holds on much longer I can see her being a similar size....grrrrr

mum2george · 07/08/2007 08:34

Just popped in to say hi, haven't had time to catch up or post in a couple of days so hope everyone is doing well. Have we had anymore deliveries since Saturday?

We're all off out in a couple of mins to go and register Emmie, then hopefully we will be going to my BF's coffee shop for some nice homemade cake, yum

growingbagpuss · 07/08/2007 08:41

Mum2George - I think most of the births are being posted on teh antenatal thread still.... Babymad went into labour last night, Annie was in during the day for obs as her waters had broken (breech), Treacletart had hers on sunday not long after they broke her waters... so it is finally getting a bit busier..... we'll be joining you soon enough!!

Hope you are well, enjoy your cake! Yummy.....

mum2george · 08/08/2007 08:18

Thanks growingBP, its getting busy all of a sudden! Any signs of you joing us yet?

Wash, can't believe they are pushing you to use formula already. Why did they even bother to weigh him, just to freak you out? Most MW's around here don't bother for a couple of weeks unless there is obviously a real problem because the baby losing weight is normal, as you know, and just worries most mums. And they wonder why I try to avoid the Baby Clinic unless I really need to ask them something.

I'm still feeding, feeding and more feeding but DH is off and looking after DS so am getting some rest, well a little anyway.

Washersaurus · 08/08/2007 09:59

Yes, the reality of keeping DS1 entertained whilst breastfeeding baby etc. when DH goes back to work next week is beginning to scare me quite a lot .

Have you been experiencing any negative behaviour from your DS Mum2George, we've had a couple of hairy moments and I'm not sure how best to deal with them - I don't want to be shouty and cross as I know it is all a big adjustment for him to make.

As for post-birth photo's this latest one is a million-trillion times better than the one DH lovingly captured of me after I gave birth to DS1; my face was all puffy and freckly and my hair looked like something was living in it

mum2george · 09/08/2007 14:56

Wash, know exactly what you mean about DS. In fact lost my temper yesterday and feel really guilty. He is usually such a good boy and I know why he's doing it. That doesn't make it any easier to deal with though does it?

Think that the only way he is going to behave while I feed is to have the dreaded Thomas DVD's on, groan.

How are you doing today anyway, and when will some of the others come and join us?

growingbagpuss · 09/08/2007 15:23

I'm losing my temper and thats before 've even managed to give birth!! I'm fed up with not being able to get about easily!

Sweep may or may not have done anything - still feel strangely calm, but am sure that will pass!

Glad you ladies and babies are doing well.

xx

Washersaurus · 09/08/2007 19:45

DS1 has been at nursery today so DH and I have had a slightly more relaxed day with baby (who is doing very well btw - although a he is a tad nocturnal ).

Whilst feeding I have tried to distract DS1 with a combination of (healthy) snacks, cbeebies, and colouring/sticker books. Not very successfully - he always seems to need some sort of physical input from me, which is tricky sometimes with baby on my lap. If he doesn't get my attention immediately he resorts to destructive behaviour, so I end up shouting which makes it worse. It is so sad because he really is a good boy too.

Heaven knows what my neighbours must think of me screaming my head off!

I hope things are going well with everyone else.......WHERE is everyone????

growingbagpuss · 09/08/2007 21:28

Stretchmarks has been quiet so I bet she's off giving birth, and Annie hasn't been heard of since she went to hosp to get checked out... bit worried really that she's ended up with a section....

I sooooo want to join you guys... never mind the endless feeding, broken nights (and thats differentt from now in what way???), the nappies and the washing... I want to be able to sit at 90degrees with my legs closed and no bowling ball on my lap!!

Stay well ladies...

myweegirl · 10/08/2007 10:16

hello - i've eventually got a few minutes to myself to join the postnatal thread (well we'll see)

Heather is settling in well - her big sister adores her in fact, think that's going to be our problem that she wants to kiss and cuddle her too much as she's not very gentle. DD1 is a bit out of sorts with us and is starting to do some attention seeking behaviour - it's going to be a fun few weeks!!

hope you are all doing well and the LO's are settling in nicely

need to go someones waking up

bananabump · 11/08/2007 13:45

Hi guys, I've just written a mammoth post on the antenatal thread so won't do another one here, but I'll be chattering away on here soon enough! Off to give J a feed. xxx

conkertree · 12/08/2007 09:13

hi everyone - i've posted about the birth on the antenatal one too.

Washersaurus - that exact same thing happened to me and unfortunately, they got me to agree to the formula by putting lots of pressure on me - but i said it was only until he got into feeding properly himself. He wasnt really latching on at all so he wasnt getting anyhting other than the small amount of colostrum that i could express. They were panicking me about him getting dehydrated and having jaundice etc etc. Spoke to my parents lots (my Dads a GP) and eventually decided that i would agree to the formula top ups, but felt really bad about it.

Got sooooo much conflicting advice about feeding - loads of different midwifes all coming in grabbing my boobs and stuffing them in his mouth etc. coming up will all sorts of reasons that it wasnt working. my sister and sister in law both had problems at the start that sorted themselves out so i hadnt been worried, but they got me more and more worried about it.

Anyway, Struan worked it out for himself and is now feeding really well. But I had another fight to get to go home. Wanted to get out of the hospital and as his weight had not dropped any more, he was feeding well, and no other medical problems I eventually just told them I was going.

Midwife will be coming in today so really hope he has put some sort of weight on, but I dont see why he wont have cause he's feeding loads. But the more I think about it, the crosser I get about the midwives attitidues. If I hadnt been absolutely determined to breastfeed, I would almost certainly have given up by now.

bananabump · 12/08/2007 14:48

Right then, better start posting on this thread!

Feeding is going really well, I woke up with absolute melons today, comedy boobs! For the first two days James was really really windy, you could hear it bubbling inside him all the time, and he'd let out high pitched screams and sortof "fight" against burping, then bring up his feed.

We tried him with infacol last night and (that and my milk coming in) he's a different baby. He's feeding loads and then sleeping really deeply. It's not perfect, he still screams occasionally and makes us wonder what we're doing wrong, but generally he's a little piglet! Happiest with a boob in his mouth 24/7.

My nipples are another story, they look horrendous- really sore and blistery, but boots (cheapy) nipple cream is helping.

OP posts:
conkertree · 13/08/2007 06:39

sounds like things are going well banana - i am sitting here with soaking wet pyjamas - despite having breast pads to catch leaking milk, it seems to escape just too quickly just now when he finishes a mouthful. the milk has only been in for a day or so though so hopefully it will calm down when it works out how much he actually wants.

am just so pleased that the feeding is working now after a slow start. i find it very hard to tell if he definately wants milk each time though cause once or twice he has been a little sick after a feed (usually when he has been latched on several times in a short time) and so sometimes i think he just wants to suck for comfort. its all a learning experience.

was meant to have my first midwife appointment yesterday - waited in all day and she never appeared. phoned the hopsital - looks like i was probably left off her list whihc is slightly annoying. have to go to funeral this morning of a very close fmaily friend of dh's so told them that i couldnt wait in all day today as well. dont think they were best please bvut tough. i said i wasnt having any problems, and gave them my mobile number so she can check before coming whether i am back. am pretty unimpressed all round by the hospital - am seriously considering writing to NCT with a little report on how things went in the hospital and how if i hadnt been absolutely determined to breast feed i would easily have given up because of some of the midwives- and this is a hospital that is meant to be promoting breastg feeding. sorry - wont start another rant about them.

bananabump · 13/08/2007 09:08

Hey conker, sounds like things are going well now! I also get the sense baby is using me to suck for comfort after he's stopped feeding so I've started giving him a dummy sometimes, there's no point in me getting sorer than I need to be!

Have you heard of Dunstan Baby Language? Basically they have identified several different cries that all newborn babies do, and what they mean. For example, every baby will say the word ?neh? when hungry. There's a video on that site showing babies saying it, it's so cool! I have found it invaluable in identifying what James wants. He says "neh" really clearly when he's hungry.

I've had a bit of a crap night with J, he isn't keen on his moses basket, and no matter how much I feed him he cries when I lay him down and put the light out. He doesn't sleep properly until he's snuggled next to me. Dp has slept right through so hopefully he'll mind him for the next few hours and just bring him to me for feeds so I can get some sleep.

hi - just a very very quick post from me!

conker - i'm wondering if it was you in the bed next to me! did you come to the postnatal ward about 1am ish? it's the name Struan (lovely) i recognise. there were 2 others with baby girls opposite me - but we were all being very polite/shy and hardly talking to each other . i was the one that was desperate to get out the following morning!
