Thought I'd start a thread to give somewhere for Jem, Washersaurus and Bresha to discuss their little ones and make all those of us waiting impatiently jealous!

Who will be next??????

Thanks guys. It's disappointing but I'm ok. I'll start looking again asap.

Ds has started trying to roll over to his left but so far only manages to turn his head and upper body. He moves his head so much at night that his hair on the left side of his head is all knotted in the morning.

Anyone know when and where the meet up is? I can make it but only if I know before 9am tomorrow.

Went to sil's today. Had to take a picture of all 5 grandchildren for fil's xmas present. They're all under 3 so it's easier said than done. I haven't checked them on the pc yet but I think the only decent one of them all looking at the camera has my nephew with an ambulance in his mouth.

I felt so awful for ds earlier. When I was still at sil's I left ds at the back of the sofa so I could put his nappy in the bin. I didn't want to put him on the floor with 3 toddlers running around. All of a sudden I heard him screaming. Somehow he had ended up flat on his back on the laminate floor. I was quite tearful

tokentotty · 19/11/2007 22:07

Oh guys I'm so sorry. I had the meet up down for next week stupidly and have realised that it should have been tomorrow. sincere apologies to all who were planning on coming. Can anyone do next week ?? Am still happy to have it chez moi but got all mixed up and have one of DH's cast of thousands family members 21st tomorrow so meeting them in the City.

tokentotty · 19/11/2007 22:07

About time I started a new thread for us as well - will work on that if I get anytime tomorrow xx

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 19/11/2007 22:34

Conker, James hasn't rolled over yet, or tried very much really. He doesn't spend an awful lot of time on his back when awake to be honest. My nephew has an extremely flat head at the back, and I've been a bit scared of it happening to J if I lie him down too much.

We've finally managed to establish a routine with him (although it hasn't come naturally to us because we're a scruffy pair of hippies who don't have set times for anything) but since we started it he's been like a different baby. It's fairly loose though- milk, play, sleep, repeat during day, bath at 7.30pm, then warm milk and cuddles and into bed by 8.30pm. He's still sleeping til 7am most nights then having a quick feed and going back to sleep til about 9.30am. He's happier all round, and we have no night time screaming anymore, which is great for all of us. I'm just happy not to be dropping things out of nervous exhaustion anymore.

We have had a bit of crying during the day though, but it was accompanied by pink cheeks, drooling and hand munching so I think we know why that is.... eek! Bonjela at the ready! Here come the teeth!

GillL · 19/11/2007 22:48

Can you have imagined us taking 3 months to fill up a thread on the ante-natal section

No worries TT - it will be nice for me to be able to pick dd up from pre-school anyway. I'm back at work on Monday so can't do any more weekdays for now. Anyone fancy a weekend meet up? If not, I'll wait til next time when I have some annual leave in the new year.

It's funny, I was saying that ds only rolled his head and upper body. After I posted I put him on the floor to see what he would do and he actually rolled up onto his side - only not far enough to tip over. Dd rolled at 14 weeks so maybe he's going to follow in her footsteps. She was never happy laying on her back. She commando crawled long before she properly crawled and she was much happier being on the move.

Good for you James. I'm similar to you. I like a routine but won't stick to rigid times. It's nice so you can make plans but you don't want it to rule your life. Ds went to bed at 9pm today. He'd had his 5 feeds by 8:30 so I'm hoping he'll sleep til 7am tomorrow. I was sleeping in til 8 or 8:30 most mornings which meant he didn't have his last feed til at least 10pm but when I'm back at work he'll be getting up around 7am. So he should hopefully be going to bed at 8pm. Fingers crossed anyway.

shrinkingsagpuss · 20/11/2007 07:52

I would have had to duck out too - DH can't decide what we are doing and I tik he wants to make use of the time when Evie is asleep.........

My2Weegirls · 20/11/2007 08:59

aaaaaaAAAAAAEEEEEEEaaaaaaaEeeeeeAAAAAA - is what we are getting during the night now WHILST SHE'S SLEEPING!!!!! last night she was sound asleep at 7.15pm - she started doing her tarzan impression at 10.50, up at 12.10am for some milk and more shouting, then 4.15 the 5.45 when dd1 got up.

conker how was your course - do you think you'd like to do it as a career change?

james - how's your face?

tasha - how's your wee one getting on with the tape?

gill - sorry to hear about not getting the job - but well done on getting back out there and doing interviews!

she's off and shouting again - think this one is going to be a talker too (DD1 never stops blethering! even in her sleep)

conkertree · 20/11/2007 09:43

yes think i probably will go for the career change - but it takes quite a while to be fully trained, so will still go back to work for at least a year - or maybe till we have a second lo.

james- we are a bit the same about getting into a routine, but if its working for you, maybe i should give it a better shot. trying really hard not to always feed before sleeps, but sometimes i am lazy and its the easy option.

after a 5 hour sleep 2 nights ago, last night we were back to waking every 2 hours. also have the hand munching, drooling and pink cheeks.

pinkrangernowwobbles · 20/11/2007 09:56

Should have not wisphered at all yesterday, ds up and down most of the nght, seems to developed a cold/ cough sounds really fleming and horsey, did your lo have this with there cold and what did you do? is ti worth me taking him to the doctors ( only took 2 ozs of milk this morning

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 20/11/2007 10:26

Aaw sorry to hear about the cold, Pink. My HV said there was no point in taking J to the docs when he had his cold because they wouldn't give me anything for him, they just advise to try saline nose drops to clear a blocked nose, and a nasal aspirator (snot sucky bulb thing- yum yum) to clear the nose after the drops have been in for a minute. Also good for clearing a runny nose. They don't like it though!!

You can try sitting them in a steamy bathroom, or giving a fairly warm bath, too. I tried karvol and didn't notice any difference to his snuffling, plus he hated the smell and cried when I put it vaguely near him (drama queen) Just have the infant paracetamol at the ready for if he looks really unhappy. I gave James 2.5ml twice when he looked worse for wear and he did cheer up a lot, poor little sod.

My2weegirls- My face is getting better (redness and swelling gone, just dry and flaky now- gorgeous. Not.) but I'm still covered in eczema head to toe. Hey, James does the tarzan too! Well, he cries, laughs and does lovely gummy smiles and big trembly doorstep lip too in his sleep, it's quite funny to watch!

Hey conker, how are you getting on with the baby rice? Is lo enjoying it? We'll all be picking your brains soon, get ready for the barrage of weaning questions!!

Uki- sorry, missed your question on the artwork. Can't give too much away as I'm working on a project for a MNer, but I'm producing a series of drawings for a website at the moment. Tempted to do a load of drawings and sell them on ebay for some christmas money! What do you do?

My2Weegirls · 20/11/2007 11:04

i found karvol really works for DD2 (funny how they are all different) i put it on some litchen rollnear her - she's at the green crusty bogey stage of her first cold. Medised is also fantastic for when they have colds instead of calpol - has paracetamol and anti-histamine in it which helps to clear their nose and if your lucky can make them drowsy too!

plenty fluids - even if it means little more often.

james - sorry your still covered with eczema - hope it starts to settle soon?

i'm waiting in today for a freecycler who is coming to pick up moses basket and clothes - this is her last chance though she's mucked me about for 3 weeks - i even offered to drop them off for her (she lives about 40min away), but she said no.

i've had to start putting dd2 in some of the 6-9months stuff as well

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 20/11/2007 14:39

Don't get me started on pain in the arse freecyclers. Almost as bad as the timewasters are the rude folk who march in, pick up the thing you're giving away, don't say thanks and act like they're doing you a favour.

I'm going to give a load of baby clothes away, most of the newborn and 0/3 stuff, and a lot of the 3-6 month stuff he hasn't even worn yet too. Some of it was given to us by dp's boss and some of it I bought in the summer, so we have a wealth of 3-6 and 6-9 little Tshirts and thin summer trousers to get him through winter... I didn't think! Rookie mistake.

I put him down for some tummytime just now, he went mental as usual, screaming into the blanket, and I realised he couldn't do much inside his baggy babygrow, so I took it off and tried again, and (still screaming) he lifted his body up on his toes with his arms folded under his chin. Funny little thing!

stretchmarks · 20/11/2007 14:49

HI All,

Just a quick catch up - DS2 has a bad cold too and I've had some horrific nights over the weekend where he has been unable to get back to sleep. I'm not sure who's cried the most over the last few days me or him !!

We're stinking of karvol here think it's cleared my nose !! James - I can't get those nasal aspirators to work they don't seem to suck anything out so the poor lo has had mummy trying to cear his nose as best as possible.

Also got the pink cheeks, chomping and dribbling so it's hard to tell what is bothering him the most - cold or teeth.

Tasha- hope lo is getting used to the tape

Conker - what made you decide to start weaning? I think DS is ready but I'm not sure.

Gill - sorry about the job I'm a great beleiver that these things happen because something better is just round the corner.

He's off again - will somebody please tell my son 10 minutes does not constitute a nap !!!!!!

tasha21 · 20/11/2007 15:49

hi, sorry to everyne having a hard time with teeth and colds and sleepless nights.
lo is getting used to the tape ill put a pic on when i get the boys to bed. o yeh first smiles today and soundless laughs soooooo cute made my day.
i find rutine brilliant for me and the 2 older ones means i have them both in bed in time for the soaps!!

conkertree · 20/11/2007 18:36

that sounds cute banana - its amazing how much more they can do when they are not constricted by clothes/nappies etc.

stretchmarks - am nervous to talk about weaning since i went on a weaning thread and got shouted down quite strongly - not quite saying i was a terrible mother, but not far off for some people. I decided to try a wee bit of solids becuase ds was waking more and more and going less and less time between feeds, but mostly becuase he wasnt nearly as smiley as he had been.

made up a wee bit of baby rice and put a wee bit on his lips. he licked it and made a face, but i tried again and he licked it again and looked less suspicious. only took maybe two spoonfuls the first time. took much more the second time, and a few days later i tried mashed banana with a bit of ebm. he loved it - lapped it up. I dont try and do a definite meal a day - just offer him some at lunchtime and if he takes it all, i offer some at tea too. if not interested at lunch i offer him at tea just to make sure - he makes it pretty obvious when he is hungry and when he's not.

since i started early, i am not doing lots of different fruits/vegetables yet - keeping it very simple, but maybe after 17 weeks, i will experiment a bit more.

sorry thats a long post.

conkertree · 20/11/2007 18:38

meant to say - was happy i made the right decision as the days following a wee bit of solids, he was a different boy - smiled all the time that someone was looking at him instead of just when spefically smiled at/ encouraged to - he just seemed so much more cheerful.

shrinkingsagpuss · 20/11/2007 19:36

Conkertree - that was my thread you posted on - I ran away after getting blasted by everyone. My only critism of MN is that the b/f extremists tend to be a it over vocal sometimes. I happily started eaning DS at 14 weeks, and it improved his sleep, he was happy, spoke early, fed himself very early, has excellent co-ordination, does not have bowel problems and basically had no problems frombeing started early. I only gave him baby rice til 16 weeks, then started the GF suggested regime for weaning - worked a treat.

I did try DD on some rice, but she screamed the whole time, which I took as a sign she wasn't too keen yet, so i am resoleved to wait a couple more weeks (she is just 13 weeks) - and she is easily over 15lbs.

I didn't have a very good highchair for DS which was the biggest problem with weaning early, but we have been offered a tripp trapp chair, so I will buy a baby kit and tray, as we eat in the kitchen at a high table, so it needs a tray or she won't be able to reach!!

stigofthedump · 20/11/2007 19:59

Hi folks

Wow, all the talk about weaning and rolling and teeth, its whizzing past.

Conker, who cares what the bf facists say, if it works for you then you do what you want. You know your lo best.

James, sorry about your eczema. Did you find it any better when you were pregnant? Mine disappeared. Is now coming back slowly. Think there's something hormonal which would be great to replicate when not pregnant. How do I go about finding out what that is.

Smug alert. Im a proud mum of smiley baby who I showed off today at ds's nursery, my old work, at the play course in the village and at a birthday party. What a social whirl. She was happy and just loved being around all the people and ds even showed off his sister "caity" pointing, grinning. And all that after waking FOUR times last night. Think its cos I put her in her sleeping bag for the first time. Its only 2.5tog but think it was too hot for her. Just trying to get some wear out of it as its 0-6 months and she's already looking a bit snug in it. Blooming grobags, sooo expensive and I bought two that size, doh. Gone back to semi swaddle tonight and see how she goes. Maybe its cos she could thrash her legs round?

tasha21 · 20/11/2007 20:07

yea mine disappeared when i was pregnant and the moment lo was brn flared up again always in the same places too

conkertree · 20/11/2007 20:21

thanks stig and sagpuss - was feeling really quite bad last night till a few more folk who weaned early came on - think the lesson i have learned is not to join in on threads that seem to inpsire very forceful views - august thread is much better for everyone being allowed their own views.

ds has just wiggled himself down from the top of the changemat to the rug at the bottom. oh its such a short time between being newborn, and being on the move - even if it will be quite a while before full blown crawling.

lizziemun · 20/11/2007 20:28

Dd2 didn't like being swaddled (hates being pinned down) so i bought some fleecy babygrows from next. So when she goes to bed she has her vest, normal babygrow then the fleecy one she is happy because she can move to hearts content and still stays warm even when she kicks her sheet and blankets.

As for weaning conker do whats best for you. With dd1 i waited until she was 20wks that was what i was told then, and i wished i listen to mum about weaning earlier as she didn't want it she wanted her bottle. Even now dd1 (3yrs 10mths) she is a terrible eater or lazy eater.

This time i will listen more to what dd2 wants and will probaly go down the BLW route as i got so stressed last time.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 20/11/2007 20:50

Yes, my eczema did go for the most part when I was pregnant. I didn't have a single headache for the duration, either. Probably from the healthy eating and extra water. I seem to live on coffee and biscuits now because they're easy to grab, no wonder I'm so run down.

Hey conker, bagpuss- don't listen to outspoken MNers giving you a hard time about weaning decisions. The bottom line is you have your lo's best interests at heart, and you're doing what you think is best. And they are all different, after all! James was watching me eat toast today, but only with as much interest as he shows when I brush my hair or dial the phone. I think it'll be a while yet before he fancies some toast himself!

Tasha, glad baby is coping well with the tape. Aaw its lovely he's starting to smile, bless him! Must make all the hard work worth it.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 20/11/2007 20:52

James sleeps best in the cosytoes/footmuff off his pushchair!

pinkrangernowwobbles · 20/11/2007 21:19

well i took tate to the doc as he had not really eaten anything all day and he has a viral infection poor little mite!!Just got to give him calpol or nurofern to help him.

I agree about so people giving others on here a hard time about there choices, at he end of the day we are all mothers and look here for support what ever we chooses to do with our children!

SITD - My Lo loves the sleeping bag, i got one more today as he only had one and would sick on it loads , managed to get mine from ebay for 15

shrinkingsagpuss · 21/11/2007 09:36

Conkertree... think I may have added some fuel to the fire.... on the b/f weaning thing.. but I just had to post...
