Hee hee, I've got one friend on facebook

Shanks, what a woman, It is very exciting that you are doing it all again and so soon! Hats off to you.

Morocco Hiya! How is your new business? The french classes...is it starting next week sort of thing?

Laidback what is your house like? I suppose it doesn't have it's own woods but I bet it's interesting judging by your taste in houses/places to live.

Well yesterday I was a disaster waiting to happen...In Donegal I had bought a cute lighthouse on a string for my toilet light. I had to dismantle the whole switch to attatch it. Managed to get the bits muddled up, electrocuted myself and now the light looks lovely but it doesn't work

Callieco · 01/09/2007 08:32

Muppet - when i flew to ireland, |I was forced to open every carton of milk and food i had with me (i was planning to use some the other end in case there was a delay or took a while to get to a shop to buy formula), thereby rendering them useless immediately. I had thought i might be able to at least put the food in the fridge on the plane, but there wasn't one. If your flight is a long one, be warned, although as you are bfing it should be much more straghtforward for you. Also, I was only allowed to take one item of baby transport with me, so couldn't take the car seat as took the pram, but i should check your airline's carriage conditions as this was a small plane. I took the pram to the plane and made sure they knew i wanted it at the steps when i got off. Where are you going? [nosey emoticon...]!

Callieco · 01/09/2007 08:33

Rosy - and !

foxcub · 01/09/2007 13:07

Hiya - Kiwi I'm they sent someone's certificates to the wrong address - that's awful!!

Rosy - have you done that washing yet?

Hi Morocco - nice to see you again [waves]

kiwibella · 01/09/2007 13:28

oh dear Rosy!! Best thing is it looks fab .

Your experience is unfortunate Callie - I flew to Oz and back and it was fab (Kate was another story ).

Instead of taking ready made formula, you could enquire about taking one of those powder dispenser thingys which have compartments for your measured amount (does that at all make sense???). Another family travelling beside me used one of these and I have bought one since - it is so handy.

kiwibella · 01/09/2007 13:29

Diva: from one nosey person to another - subscribing to threads won't stop you snooping

evenhope · 01/09/2007 14:25

I'm back (and none of you had noticed I was away, had you )

Had a week in Holland and my usually sunny-natured DD spent most of it screaming We've had everything in her mouth being chewed on hard, crying while asleep, screaming every time we got in the car. Unfortunately we had grandma with us who is of the old school leave-em-to-cry brigade and spent the whole time grabbing DD off me so she could shove her back in her pushchair

We've also had a week of comments like:

  • doesn't she go to bed at a proper time then?
  • if she's rolling it's dangerous for her to be in your bed
  • she'll get the idea she only has to cry and you'll carry her
  • you've won (!) (directed to DD when I got her screaming out of the pram and she smiled)
  • she'll be like that child on the television and telling you what to do
  • she's just like that child on the television not going to bed

She's not even 6 months old. Mother forgets I have already raised 4 children this way, who have turned out OK (if a bit lazy ) and don't "rule the house". She also can't accept that her way of making-them-know-who-is-boss has led to 20 years of therapy and counselling for her own two children...

On the plus side, DD went to her first swimming lesson with 2 Dutch babies and really enjoyed it. Didn't object to being put underwater or being given to the (Dutch) instructor.

divastrop · 01/09/2007 15:50

welcome back evenhope.tbh i'd lost track of who'd gone on holiday and who's absconded to facebook(heathens).at your mother telling you what to do when you have 5 children!

bella-avoiding active convos would stop me snooping,as i wouldnt see attention-grabbing thread titles like 'i cant believe my dh has done this to me after 75 years of marriage, help!!!' or 'in the news-mum sentenced to 3 months in prison for keeping her 17 children in chicken coops'.

as long as theres a 'full moon' section where you post threads about ffvbf, smacking,SAHMvWOHM,etc that i can read when im in that sort of mood,it would be fine

callie- at having to open all the formula.i have a milk powder dispenser, they are handy, although i dont know how they would check it contained milk powder rather than charlie.

Rosylily · 01/09/2007 17:03

It keeps being sunny, then rainy, sunny, rainy...I keep hanging out the washing, bringing it in, hanging it out......

spongecake · 01/09/2007 19:14

hi ladies, have been on facebook but somehow its easier on here

muppet we flew recently, gave up the buggy -abandoned it at the steps to the plane.. then had to carry the baby miles to the luggage roundabout. everyone had gone and we were still waiting for the buggy when we saw a sign that said all outsize luggage and buggys were on the carousel down the other end... hmmph!

am so tired as he wakes up 2-3 times a night to play and have a snack. still, he is eating normal food- he had a go at my spnach soup yesterday (nice nappy) and gobbled jacket potato and advocado today. he hates pureed stuff, which now i know makes it easier.

must read the last threads and try to keep up, but its all v overwhelming at mo

Mossy · 01/09/2007 19:27

Diva yes I'll be getting the train, is it Barrow in Furness I take it? I'll be coming and going in the day though can't afford to stay over anywhere! Really looking forward to it!!

Evenhope I had also lost track of who is on hols. I wondered where you were! (Also Lunar, Eids and a couple of others seem to have gone off somewhere and I can't remember if they're on hols either).

Don't you know you are "making a rod for your own back"? I have one of those rods too. I just say, "yes, I know I am. I've painted it an'all!"

Callie that's awful you having to open your formula! What would they have done if it was a really long-haul flight and you'd have had no other means of feeding Jordi? It's disgusting, can you complain?

Muppet where are you off to then?

Morocco good to have you back! You missed our meet-up though it was me and Diva and Bertie & Elsie in Blackpool, a gorgeous day it was!!

Next time eh?

Sponge Bertie is still waking right throughout the night like a little sucky thing, I don't mind so much though. Although like Evenhope I am making a rod, donchaknow?

I had better go because Bertie is being babysat by mil and dh is sulking about me spending my time on the pc instead of with him. ffs!

See yez later!!

evenhope · 01/09/2007 22:49

Mossy [rod emoticon]

Callieco · 01/09/2007 23:06

Hello again. The formula thing for flying was really annoying, particularly as I had checked the airline's website carefully before going, and it said no more than 100ml of fluid allowed, but baby food is allowed. I had it in my head that you couldn't take water onto the plane so thought I'd better not take water and powder with me, but will take sealed cartons (ie, no one could interfere with them so they should be fine). Was really pissed off when I then discovered that water in a bottle plus powder was fine, as long as you tasted the water - WHY didn't they just make it explicitly clear on the flaming website??? And what really pissed me off even more was I declared all the cartons I had with me, like a good girl. They didn't seem to be bothered by the fact I also had sealed pouches of Calpol - so what's the difference? If I could have adulterated a sealed carton of formula, why not one of Calpol??? And I didn't have to test my bottle of hand sanitiser either. On the way back, I didn't bother telling them I had a carton of formula in my change bag, thought I'd just see what happened, and it wasn't picked up on the screening, so so much for bloody security anyway. It's such a farce.

Ok, rant over and I'd better go to bed as I'm in DP's nephew's house and we're catching the ferry tomorrow - it's been a long day already what with packing, driving here, DS etc... See you in a week and a bit.

kittywits · 01/09/2007 23:08

Ronnie is spending his first night in a cot in another room from me
Just wanted to see if it improved his sleep ( and mine too)

Sorry lots of messages, but I'm a bit busy here, settling in new aupair etc.
Things will improve when the blighters return to school I hope

Piffle · 01/09/2007 23:20

awww kitty, Finn is on limited time too
He is waking to gurgle and chuckle.
of course with the monitor I'll still hear him, but dp won't
I'm in two minds

hope tonight is ok for you
I think Finn being my last I'm digging my heels, seeing his little hands and head bob above the cot every morning

I'd rather see do out than Finn
shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Morocco lovely to see you back - sorry about your grandad
You need facebook too LOL

Evenhope sounds llike a very frustrating break!
hope you are enjoying being back home!
right must dash, bed to get into

Rosylily · 02/09/2007 07:30

Hope you have a great time Callie.

I can't imagine not having Hasan sleeping beside me, we're too comfy but he is rolling now so can't be leaving him alone in the bed.
I'll have to remove the heap of clothes from the cot and give it a go soon I guess (drags feet)

Am still trying to make sense of facebook.... there's always something new in life to confuse me

Good luck with the au pair Kitty.

I read memoirs of a geisha on holiday and now I'm inspired to buy a kimono on ebay for my sister!(off to browse ebay)

Rosylily · 02/09/2007 10:06

somebody kick me off the computor, I've been up since seven and i'm still not dressed! Starting to see the attraction of facebook, been fiddling all morning Come on Diva, it's FUN!

divastrop · 02/09/2007 10:28

NO!:P.i refuse to join a site that i wouldn't be comfortable with dp joining.

mossy-dont know if you saw this link i posted further down the thread?B-I-F registry office

i have been trying bras on with my dress this morning, seeing as i have about 20 of the things in my knicker drawer.the ones that dont show with the dress dont fit me properly, and the ones that fit me arent suitable with the dress.oh i am so going to have fun

kitty-how often is Ronnie waking in the night?

Elsie has been in with dd2 for about 3 weeks now,she has been fine, but i waited till she was sleeping through before moving her in there anyway.

i am shattered today as ds2 woke me at 4am to tell me he'd weed the bed.still,i think 3 accidents in 2 weeks isnt bad going.

rosy-are you dressed yet?

foxcub · 02/09/2007 12:55

Evenhope - Hi welcome home! What was Holland like then?

I hope your Mum didn't ruin the holiday by preaching all the time. I have an older sister who preaches and I really have to bite my tongue sometime - thinks she's an expert in everything she does!!

Rosy - Monti is still in my bed too. When I return to work I find it a great comfort to have the baby next to me all night - kind of compensates for being apart for some of the day. I can't imagine moving him out yet - he's too snuggly and cute. Although he does keep waking me all the time, like some of the other babies and I am knackered. I seem to sepnd whole days acheiving nothing 'cos I am too tired to function properly.

Sponge - we spent 2 hours waiting for our buggy at Gatwick once, only to discover all the buggies had been placed at the end of the hall and had been there all along (i.e. no one thought to inform the passengers). I was so

Well another day of achieving nothing today. Kids back at school on Weds so 2 more days of nothingness to enjoy

evenhope · 02/09/2007 16:59

Hi foxy. Holland was nice actually but DD screamed every time we put her in the car. She seems to hate her car seat (Creatis) but we can't work out why. Would have been less stressful without grandma, especially with her grabbing the pushchair and rushing off everywhere we went . What is really annoying is that she invited herself when we said we were going. (I must learn to say No).

DD happy to be back in "our" bed.

Does anyone else find that the baby feeds all the time at home but doesn't ask for feeding when you're out? This is what mine does, then makes up for it all night...

kittywits · 02/09/2007 18:06

Sorry, no time to read posts, promise I'll start properly next week!
Just wanted to say that Ronnie didn't wake once last night, he grumbled a bit at one point then went back to sleep!!!
That's the first night since he was born that he's slept!
It was always the case with the others too but I didn't want to kick Ronnie out, now I need my bedroom back!

spongecake · 02/09/2007 21:39

diva, whats wrong with the bra? i had a huge ivory shiny one on under my wedding dress with see through straps. ebay...

i keep getting things on facebook to download, not sure about this, won't it clog up my computer?

spongecake · 02/09/2007 21:43

my sister didn't come to my wedding and wants to visit-dh says no , it was such big insult. she has given up calling/ emailing etc etc. i am fed up with it all, he trouble she has caused

divastrop · 02/09/2007 21:47

sponge-they will be viruses and spyware and will destroy your computer

im having trouble finding a suitable bra,i dont even know what size i really am.in fact, the size varies depending on the style.

my sister isnt coming to my wedding,so ive been told in a round-about way by my mum.she hasnt even replied to the invite

might have to do a rant thread tomorrow if i dont hear from her.

eidsvold · 02/09/2007 22:03

well have fallen so far behind that I haven't read all messages.

Guess some of you are gearing up for back to school. Seems strange you starting your school year when we are heading into last term.

Been looking at where we want to send dd1 - decisions on whether she goes mainstream totally, mainstream and special ed unit split placement and eased into full time mainstream or special school. Probably the middle option. Our local school - 5 minute walk away is brilliant.

Very busy with kindy fete/fun day. The kindergarten organisation is 100 years old this year and so they are asking all kindergartens statewide to cut a cake at 1pm on 15th of September. We decided to have our fete that day too. I started by putting my hand up to help with a little thing and have ended up being deputy in charge sort of.

Thankfully we have a few days off at the beach this week before it gets very mad.

I am an aunty again - My SIL had a baby boy last friday. So after 5 girls we have a boy in our family. So hoping to go and see him when dd1 is on school holidays in a couple of weeks. So we now have three children each - all born the same year - ranging from one month to 5 months apart.

Well dds are nagging for breakfast so better go and get them sorted. Will try and catch up with messages.

Hope all is going well for our wee ones.
