Hi everyone! especially to puppy and LOTF, nice to read from you again! ( I used to be someone else too )

DS1 has been fab this week, I wonder if it's starting nursery and seeing other kids at it but he's started doing his poos on the loo - yay! (T42 take a moment to reflect on a time when life's excitement didn't revolve around sick or poo.... ). Anyway, gthe first thing he said to me after the first one wa s' you must buy me a toby now mummy', very matter of factly! Oh, thank God for thomas and friends and a bit of bribery!

DS2's way behind all the others - just started pulling his knees up under his tummy while dragging himself along the ground today. DS1 was a late 'proper' crawler too but not this late - guess I'll be practising a little more patience.

Happy birthday to those little ones who had the firsts this week!

compo · 08/09/2007 13:11

Hi everyone
So exciting to hear about all the ttc!!
We've definitely decided 2 is enough for us but I do feel broody every now and then.
I'm very excited about dd's b/day this week too. Feel very proud we have all reached one year
No sign of walking here. Still juse crawling, no cruising. She gets very frustrated though when ds moves his toys out of her reach on to the sofa so she is trying to pull herself up but to no avail just yet

oh yes, on the whole milk thing - are people still giving milk in the day? dd still has 5oz, sometimes abit less in the afternoon. She's not very good at drinking a cup on her own so think we'll be doing bottles for a good while longer here

Compo - it's hit and miss with the daytime milk here. If he has eaten and drunk well at meal times, I tend not to give it but if not, I give a few ounzes. He takes it from a beaker apart from at bedtime. We are on cow's milk here now which is so much easier! DS took to it really easily, thankfully.

T42 - well done on the poo (!)

Still feeling pants

zmandaz · 08/09/2007 19:25

Wow! Can't believe that DD is now 1!!!! This time last year I was in a state of shock looking at this little bundle of baby and thinking 'Oh my God, what do I do!'. Now, I'm still in a state of shock, looking at this 1 year old whirlwind who is never still for a minute unless she's asleep and thinking 'Oh my God, what do I do now!'

DD has spent all day playing with her new toys. Her party is tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it but am so tired from the preparations. My Dad was taken into hospital last Tuesday with a burst appendix and had complications from the surgery so we've been trying to get everything ready around hospital visits etc. He's much better now and hopefully will be home soon. Right, I'm off to make DD's birthday cake. Keeping everything crossed that it works!

fairysnuff · 08/09/2007 19:54

We are on cows milk too. DD also took to it no prob, so lucky!

I am going to stop relying on the boob to get her down for her afternoon snooze. FIL gave me some really good tips. He was the master at it, whilst we were on hols. So I am going to try to keep it up. Not nice to say no to her though when she is signing like a mad un!!

So I am down to two BF a day, morn and night. I know I shoudl really cut out the morn one, she really doesn't need it and could just take a 'no spill' cup, but I like my cuddle.

Not sure how I am going to go about getting her off the boob at night though? Do I just stop giving a feed and cuddle and stuff, or move her onto a warm bottle of cows milk, or should it be in a cup?
Not in any great rush but feel I ought to be thinking about doing it soon esp. if peggers with the next.

CD29 still no AF, but am getting cramps, only wee ones, but I think I might be out of luck this month
Prob just as well. FIL thinks he may have measles or chicken pox, brought back from hols, and I am scratching at what I thought were midgie bites!! Really hope they are. I have had both as a child though, so I shouldn't get them again, should I?
DD has one bite on each leg but I am fairly sure they are just bites and have been there since hols and no more have appeared.
I opened my back door for the cat the other night and a swarm of the buggers flew in! (midgies, that is) What a shock I got!! So reckon, hope that is all that has happened. But it wouldn't be good to get that whilst PG, would it?

Sorry what a long post!!

compo · 08/09/2007 21:35

well done Fairysnuff on breastfeeing for so long
Happy Birthday to Mandaz' dd What pressies did she have? Hope you have a lovely party tomorrow and don't forget to pat yourself on the back for coping so well with all the crap that has been thrown at you xxxx

zmandaz · 08/09/2007 22:56

Thanks Compo

DD got a Leap Frog activity table, some books and a jigsaw from me, an ELC walker, jigsaws, some lovely clothes, a Tweenies DVD (I know there's a lot of anti-Tweenies peeps on MN but DD loves them!) and some money to put in her savings account. She's done really well and there's more to come tomorrow! She loves the walker and activity table as they both make lots of noise! She's just got to get used to the speed of the walker as she's only used to walking around the furniture so far but I'm hoping it'll encourage her to have a go at walking unaided.

On the subject of milk, DD has a drink of cows milk in the morning with her breakfast but she's not that keen on it and then she has a bottle of formula at night. I've discussed the last feed with my HV. I really don't want to drop it just yet as it's our special time and she gets so excited when she sees her bottle. My HV said to swap to either follow on milk or cows milk. The thing is, I always warm up the bottle before she has it using a bottle warmer but don't know if I can use this method with cows milk. Does anyone know if it's safe to use the bottle warmer for cow's milk?

teafortwoandtwofortea · 08/09/2007 23:23

Sounds like a lovely first birthday for DD Mandaz! Just wanted to say yes, it's fine to warm cow's milk in the same way as formula. I'd get shot or this on some of the main threads but here we zap 8oz for DS1 in the microwave for a minute and stir well...

compo · 09/09/2007 07:29

yes we use the microwave here too
mandaz - don't worry about the bottle before bed. Most children have it until at least 2 0r even three. Ds who is 3 has a beaker of milk before bed still and we've no plans to stop it.
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.
I'm getting very carried away with dd's b/day next weekend. We've instructed MIL to be in charge of the cake (we know she loves having something to do!), I've bought loads of pink balloons saying b/day girl on them and a big banner for the lounge.
I know she won't remember but both dcs love balloons and I feel as this is the last 1st b/day I'll ever have it's okay to go mad

zmandaz · 09/09/2007 18:54

Hi, thanks for the advice on the milk. I'll try her on cows milk but warm it first so hopefully she'll accept it.

DD's party went really well and the cake worked out fine. Am absolutely exhausted but at least I have a year to recover until the next one!

Coriander73 · 10/09/2007 10:33

compo...don't! I feel rather teary reading that! I have just dropped DD off at pre-school for the first time (remember I had this dilema about playgroup & nursery?) & despite being in strange place with no familar faces she was happy for me to go after 20 mins! She just asked for a cuddle as I was leaving so I had to hold the tears back then!!!! 3...can't believe it! Still feeling broody but am just going to carry on & see...DH very much against..VERY!!

J not waking or cruising at all!! Just major bum shuffling & getting very angry at DD when she takes his toys away!!! He wants to stand & get involved but I guess it'll happen when it happens!!

Fairysnuff...it'll happen!! You are fertile so you know you'll fall again...stay cool & relax (even though that's probably quite hard!!)

J is 1 on Sunday! PIL down on the Saturday so we've booked to go out for lunch at a nice bistro on the quay (child friendly too!) Then on Monday we're off to Portugal..

homemama · 10/09/2007 17:30

Just popping in to wish happy birthday to all the babies on Sep 06 thread.
I can't believe they're 1 already. It's making me soooo broody.
Hope everyone is well.

Oh and I haven't read back but Marls; hope your move went/goes ok.

Fairysnuff, there was an outbreak of both when I was pg with DS (surrey has quite a low MMR uptake) Anyway, Dr said less than 1% chance if you've had both as a child as long as you were over 1yr at the time. HTH

Bristols, hope your DS is feeling better now.

homemama · 10/09/2007 17:33

Oh and we've just dropped DS's bedtime bottle and he's nearly 3! It was part of his bedtime routine though. DD having no milk in the day now but still bottle at bedtime.

JingleBelle · 11/09/2007 13:34

Congrats to all the birthday DCs as they pass! We had DS' birthday on Saturday and celebrated all weekend .
Don't think he really knew what it was all about, but he certainly appreciated all the attention and had a big grin on his mush all weekend.
I did say to family not to buy pressies, as he already has so many toys, but we did buy him a wooden trolley with bricks in that he can push along - only problem is that it moves too fast on our laminate floor !
Our living room now resembles a toy shop!! DS is loving it and really likes the wooden toys he's got and now my work colleagues have told me about Brio (sp?), so I'm going to look out for some of that - seem to remember there may have been some discussion on here about that as well?
Fairy - fingers crossed no bugs, but fingers crossed also for you TTC. I'm sure it will happen for you.
Marls - hope house sale is going well.
Zmandaz - glad to hear party went well and cake was good - will need tips from you for next year, my cake was average to say the least (just an iced Victoria sponge), but hey, at least the only way is up!
Really interested in milk intake - DS has bottle morning and at bedtime, maybe this is overkill? He has dropped afternoon one though.
Fingers crossed for me - we have discussion on flexible working in our team this week. I'm going to request either condensed week of 32 hours over 4 days, or if they won't go for that, then 32 hours over 4 days and then work remaining 5.5 hours at home on a Friday morning. I'm so hoping they'll agree. (Sorry Cori, if this is a sensitive subject). Being at home with DS on the weekends just makes me realise how much I miss him during the week.
Right, think I've waffled enough.
Oh, T42 congrats on the potty training!

tassisssss · 11/09/2007 15:33

Happy Birthday September Babies!

Not been on here for a while but it's lovely to catch up with some of the news.

I can't believe it's been a year! I understnad what you're saying compo...I think 1st b'days are especially emotional as such a lot has happened in the first year. Also for me they're moving from being wee dependant bundles to being amlonst toddlers.

Lucy is one on Saturday (compo and cori are you this weekend too?). We're planning a wee celebration for friends and family in the afternoon. I've booked a bouncy castle for the older kids (well I'm sure Lucy'll have a wee shot!) and will pick up some first birthday balloons. Need to think about cake and my SIL has one of those amazing stand things for cupcakes so I hope to borrow that.

Lucy's not walking yet, but has figured out how to open my sideboard door despite it having a child lock on (so advanced my girl!). She's a lot of fun and has turned into a real daddy's girl which is cute. She's got quite into milk from a cup and is less and less interested in BFing which is a bit sad. Think I might stop in the next few weeks.

Dh is away this week so will probably be on here more than usual...look forward to chatting.

Coriander73 · 11/09/2007 18:35

Hi Tassisssss (is that enough s's??!!!)...yep, Jack is 1 on Sunday..! Like all of you ladies, I just can't quite believe it..where has this year gone?
(btw, well done you for bf for this long! It seems like an age ago I was bf my two...miss feeding J in some ways!)

tassisssss · 11/09/2007 19:11

Thanks Cori - think i can safely revert to good old tassis one of these days as it seems tassi has either changed names or stopped posting!

So for those of you who've already had first b'day parties, what were the highlights? What should we do/get for our precious wee ones? Favourite gifts so far?

I have v cute video footage of ds on his first b'day that I'd like to find. He spent a lovley time at this party with his brick trolley...his wee girl friends sat in the brick space while he pushed them around...v cute! Remmeber someone giving him a helium balloon that was a big hit. Seem to recall a lot of his gifts came into their own a few months later.

bristols · 11/09/2007 19:17

DS still has milk first thing and last thing. He generally doesn't have milk in the afternoon anymore, unless he hasn't eaten much lunch... He has a bottle at night but the rest in a beaker. Was thinking of stopping the bottle at night but maybe it's a bit soon?

He still has a barking cough but seems better in himself. He had his 12 month jab yesterday and it has given him terrible diarrhoea. He's also been sick. At least I hope it was the jab that's done it and he hasn't been struck down with another bug.

Glad you are all enjoying your LOs birthdays. It is definitely an emotional time. Although I have lots of hormones floating around at the mo...

zmandaz · 11/09/2007 19:47

The highlight for me was watching DD, surrounded by absolute chaos but calmly sitting in the middle of the blanket, with a piece of pizza in each hand! It was so sweet. She wasn't bothered what was going on as long as she had her foot! So far, she absolutely loves her activity table and her walker which was from elc. How do you attach a photo to these posts?

zmandaz · 11/09/2007 22:13

Don't know if anyone still uses it but I've added a few party photos onto the Yahoo site as I can't work out how to get them on here! Not good with technology

fairysnuff · 11/09/2007 22:57

Oh, I must remeber to get teh viseo camera out for DD's Birthday party.
She turns 1 next wed but family are coming up at teh weekend after so we will do something then. Not sure what but i am sure my mum and I will think of something

DD went down with a beaker of cows milk and DH tonight
I was out at one of those body shop parties. I spent too much money!!!!
But, cos I did, I got something extra for a £5 that is worth £20. Does that mean I saved money or spent more!!
But it will be a christmas pressie, honest!

Anyway, I am so proud of DD.
Do you think I should take it from here and stop the BF?
I am loathed to do it but perhaps it is a good start and I am going to have to stop at some point?
Esp if we are ttc? Maybe it is stopping us?
We are only on out first months attempts though maybe I should see if it takes, if not then I will think about stopping?
Then again, if it takes and I get ill, then the decision will be taken out of my hands and that would be even sadder..........

What do you all think?

fairysnuff · 11/09/2007 23:00

That first line should read
Oh, I must remember to get the video camera out for DD's Birthday party.

tassisssss · 12/09/2007 09:56

fairy, i think it's up to you! (not v helpful!). people do successfully conceive and continue to BF throughout pregnancy so that in itself isn't a reason to stop.

also the fact that she went down without you last night doesn't mean she can't have you tonight...you don't have to do the same thing every day and can skip the odd feed no problem (don't think i really realised this last time).

for me the key thing is are you both still enjoying it? i feel that lucy's not that bothered anymore and while i LOVE doing it, i'm happy enough to stop (think if i thought she was going to be my last i might feel differently!).

not sure that helps much!

fairysnuff · 13/09/2007 17:48

Ach well, I just went back to it the next morn and then again that night.
I am not ready really so we will just keep going.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

DD was so funny this morn! I was on phone to my mum when she brought up a little milk onto the living room floor. She proceeded to stick her fingers in it, as is their want.
Next thing I know, she has grabbed the nearest thing ( her just discarded babygro) and starts trying to clean it up!!!
Wow! My clever little girl!!

Ever so pround mum emoticon!
