HH must be the weather...a friend has just rung to say her two have chicken pox & can't come to DD's 3rd birthday party on Saturday!

J still bum shuffling...no sign whatsoever of walking or even being interested in walking..so different to DD

mabel1973 · 31/08/2007 08:46

Hi all

not been on for ages, DH has been so busy that he has hogged the laptop constantly. Hope evryone is ok and gearing up for the birthdays. HH - fingers crossed for you that nothing develops, DS1 has been exposed to chicken pox about 4 times and still hasn't had it, you may be lucky.

DS2 is standing now, but still not seen any steps, although DH reckons he's taken a couple (I haven't witnessed it)

Found out last week that the in-laws have booked to go on holiday for DS2's birthday....they can go away ANY TIME...I am really p'd off about it TBH, particularly as FIL missed DS1's 1st birthday as he was ill and made a big deal about how upset he was to not be there, and now they have purposefully booked to away their loss i guess...

HenriettaHippo · 31/08/2007 09:33

Quite Mabel, their loss. Aren't PIL difficult sometimes??? My FIL shows v. little interest in our children, and it does hurt, but he's the one who'll regret it.

Myrtle, I hope you're feeling better? I find it always takes quite a few days to really recover from a bad migraine.

No signs of chickenpox yet... DS1 had to have a Hep A injection last night for holiday, and he was sooo brave. He cried a bit when the needle went in, and then afterwards said "Mummy, that injection hurt a little bit, can I have a sticker now?". . No after effects this morning so far.

DS2's birthday on Sunday and I haven't even bought him a present! I just don't know what to get...

Anyone else's LOs able to climb the stairs yet? Fraser's favourite activity at the moment is clambering up, so stair gates firmly shut - he stands at the bottom and screeches to be allowed up. It takes a while, but the sense of pride when he reaches the top is really obvious on his face (with me an inch behind him all the way...!).

Marls001 · 01/09/2007 01:11

HH - I am so sorry. Please keep us posted. What terrible timing.

I don't understand what could make PILs not interested in their own grandchildren. I agree; their loss!!

James has been able to climb the stairs for 2 months or so. He can get up, but not down. He tries anyway though, not seeming to understand that he'll tumble down headfirst!!
Crawls scarily quickly. He can stand well, and take a few steps (though can see the wheels turning in his head; makes more sense to him to just hold up his hands & be carried ). Refers to DH and me as "Ma" and "Da" and has just learned how to clap his hands.

Homemama, HG sounds just terrible. I hope it's not guaranteed you'll have to get it again.

Myrtle, I'm sorry ... migraines are the worst.

TeaForTwo - It's true; ever since reunited with DSs I haven't had migraines! Just knew about stress contributing, had no idea it could work the other way!

mabel1973 · 01/09/2007 07:39

marls - lol at the wheels turning in his head!

i have not bothered with shoes yet,has anyone else? I never bothered with cruising shoes for ds1, but he was a winter baby, so he didn't go outside much when he was crusing and i am a firm believer in letting them go without shoes for as long as poss, but i have found with DS2 over the summer while we've been out and about he has wanted to get out of the pushchair and crawl or cruise round and i can feel myself cringing as he steps on sharp little stones and bits of bark!
Also apart from anything else I am not going to put myself through queuing to get feet measured in Clarks til the schools have gone back!

HH - DS2 started climbing the stairs whilst we were on holiday in June, totally took us by surprise, he is amazingly quick now and can do our stairs in about 10 seconds..i let him climb them on his way up for his bath.

Happy Birthday to your DS for sunday...can you believe it???!!!! 1 already!!!

zmandaz · 01/09/2007 08:33

Hello! Hope everyone is well.

DD is keeping me very busy at the moment. She's crawling, walking round the furniture but not quite walking un-aided yet and climbing stairs (up but not down). I've been trying to get organised for her birthday party next weekend. We're having a teddy bear's picnic. I'd just carefully done the pass the parcel so there was one layer per child and made up enough goody bags when one of my friends rang to say she has to work so her two won't be able to come. Grrrrr! I know it's not her fault but it's sod's law isn't it! All I have to do now is buy the food and make the cake - am doing a chocolate teddy bears head and am a bit nervous as I haven't baked in years. I'm so excited about DD's birthday though. I can't believe she's a whole year old! What a year!

I was told by someone who works in children's shoes not to put DD in any type of shoe until she's walking. I don't know that it makes much difference but I have just had her in socks up till now. I'm very excited about buying her first pair of shoes. I hope they do some in pink!

Marls001 · 02/09/2007 04:54

Mabel - we'd tried these but they left marks on his ankles! Seemed to be too tight. He has one pair of these now and they seem much more comfortable - only wears them to Mothers' Day Out & takes them off when we get home. He does seem more comfortable barefoot!

Manda I love the idea of a teddy bear party. That will be so much fun, & am sure the teddy bear head will look fabulous!

teafortwoandtwofortea · 02/09/2007 19:12

Ahh! MArls those shoes are adorable! Must go find some like it, though no rush as Ds2 isn't even crawling properly yet!

For any of you TTC or expecting I wanted to give you first call on our red phil and ted's double (with cocoon, pannier bags, tyre pump, spare inner and rain cover ) - not intending to be oportunistic but understanding as in hating al those mised bids on ebay! Anyway - it'll be £250 plus postage if you need it (£20 ish i think). I'll leave it for a week before puting it up for auction so if anyone's interested let me know and I'll send piccies - it's in ggod condition with a few scufs but generaly has loads and loads of wear left!

Sory for lack of posting again. DS1's ben ocupying us with potty training but have spent the rest of our holiday listening to al of the hary potter's - thouroughly enjoyable - felt a bit lost when I'd finished though, don't know what to do with myself now.....

mabel1973 · 02/09/2007 19:37

T42 - how is potty training going? we have been at it all summer hols, but i just don't feel like i'm getting anywhere. Fine when we're at home, but a nightmare when we're out he just won't tell me he needs to go. I have thought about giving up, but feel like we've gone so long now nappy free, that it is harder to go back now.

Marls - those shoes are CUTE! I am thinking of going to get DS2 measured this week, now the schools have gone back, he is standing and i think walking won't be long.

I am still v. about my PIL not cooming to DS2's birthday, it seems the more i think about it the more worked up i get, i am sure i am being irrational, as i know he won't know, but i feel sad for him that his grandparents would prefer 4 days in norfolk to attending his 1st birthday....i need to get over it really!!!

teafortwoandtwofortea · 02/09/2007 20:05

MAbel, thanks for asking! It's going ok. He's mainly mastered weeing on the loo with the help of a toddelr seat and has even gone on a proper sized loo whil I held him over it (phew!) but poos are a whole different ball game - he just won't do them anywhere but in his nappy/pants. He had a few piddle accidents when his friend came to play yesterday, I wonder whether he was trying to show off that he could do it on demand? We do remind him on the hour and get him to physically sit bare bottomed on the loo, though we don't tell him off if nothing appears. This seems to be working but there hasn't been a time yet where he's come to us to declare a need to go.

I've had a chat with his nursery (starts back on tuesday) and they say leave him in the pants and don't go back. I think it helps that they've reassured me that they don't mind accidents but they seem to think that if you go back to nappies or training pants the child gets confused. So we're sticking with it for now, and buying a piddle pad for the car seat!

I'm sure if you stick with it it'll come right - all parents and children have to go through it don't they - and most come out relatively unscathed! Continuing good luck to you (and forget about PILs and just enjoy DS2's big day!)

mabel1973 · 03/09/2007 08:24

T42-sounds very similar to the situation here.i have had to throw 2 pairs of pants away over the weekend that he pooed in, although he has pooed on his potty as well. on friday he pooed in his pants while we were out and said nothing! it was only when i noticed his clothes sticking to him I thought oh no!!!!
He will wee on the big toilet and we have bought a toddler seat to go on it. He has very occasionally told me he needs to wee when we're out, but usually he just does it, so I have to constantly remind him. The problem is he ALWAYS says no, even when i can see he is holding himself and is probably desperate. If we are out with friends, as we were on friday, he just cannot bear to tear himself away from the fun to have something as boring as a wee. He starts back at pre-school this week for 2 sessions a week, so i am hoping that being around the older children will make him want to do what they are doing. But what your nursery said about not going back to nappies has spurred me on to stick with it!

Coriander73 · 04/09/2007 08:45

Morning

DD is 3 today & I am feeling emotional...nothing new there!!! I keep on having flashbacks to about this time exactly 3 years ago & pleading for an epidural....which with hindsight I wish I'd tried to manage without because I am sure it didn't help (obviously it took the pain away but things slowed down etc & ended in em section)....anyhow...can't quite believe it's been 3 years...am definitely feeling broody these past few days

PontefractCake · 04/09/2007 12:20

Hiya to those who remember me from months ago I used to be called Puppy.

Just thought I would pop in to say Happy 1st Birthday to all your babies, Hasn't time flown by!

I noticed a couple of you are ttc again good luck with that, it looks like we are going to try for #3 soon too eeek, so I may see you on the ttc/antenatal boards if I ever get time to post.

Hope your little ones have a good b'day

Puppy.

mabel1973 · 05/09/2007 10:19

cori - happy birthday to your DD for yesterday

puppy - lovely to hear from you!

We had 4 steps yesterday! he walked to me across the carpet!!!

oh we finished our last tin of formula yesterday, i have been mixing it with cows milk over the last few weeks, so he is on cows milk now.

feel quite emotional, the day we bought him home from hospital is still so clear in my mind, it was such a beautiful sunset, i can't believe it was nearly a year ago!

JingleBelle · 05/09/2007 12:42

Congrats Cori on your DD's birthday yesterday.
Congrats Mabel on DS's first steps - what a milestone!!
Congrats HH on DS2's bday as I think that was Monday, if I'm correct.
Mandaz, your bday plans for DD sound lovely and you sound v. creative with the teddy bear cake.
Glad to hear that i'm not the only one getting v. excited about 1st birthday. DS is 1 on Saturday and I'm so looking forward to it. No grand plans, as he's very much a 1 to 1, or 1 to 2 baby - doesn't like crowds. On sat we've got my Mum and Sis coming over and on Sun we're off to Bristol to see in-laws (6 of them!!) Am still going to do birthday cake and balloons (on Sunday especially for his cousins as it will definitely be more exciting for them than him, as I'm sure it'll just be a normal day to him). Can't believe it's a year (has gone so quickly and been so long, all at once). I am definitely getting broody again, but as we're off to Oz at end of October, no plans on ttc just yet.
We've bought DS a push along trolley of bricks for his bday and wasn't sure if he'll be able to push it yet, but on Mon, he pulled himself up on one of our little coffee tables and then started pushing it along, walking behind - am sooooo excited!! He's just starting to cruise along furniture, so think it'll be a while before walking, but nevertheless is v. exciting. As you can see, I am ridiculously overexcited about it all at the mo.
Anyway, in lunch break, so happy days to all those with celebrations coming up.
Jingle xx
P.S. Feeling slightly silly that I changed my post name last Christmas to something festive and we're now 16 weeks from Christmas again and i never changed it back!!

Coriander73 · 05/09/2007 12:54

Hello! Welcome back puppy! Congrats on lo's first steps Mabel! No cruising here...just major bum shuffling..

Gosh...am so so broody...pleae someone talk some sense into me!! PLEASE! I can't believee they are or nearly are ONE...like you Mabel can remember in minute detail what was going on when he was born & when we brought him home...sigh......I said never ever again but I just dont know...I feel so much want for another or is it just because DD is 3 & now J is 1 that I just want a baby again??!!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 05/09/2007 12:57

Hiya!!!!!!

Don't know if you guys remember me?!
probably not

Anyway, my spetember baby will be 1 on the 10th.

He is cruising and can stand without holding on for a short while, or until he realises what he is doing! lol

Am very, very broody and dh has agreed to one more!
Will start ttc after ds2's birthday!

Coriander73 · 05/09/2007 13:17

Hello LOTG! Gosh...no problems for you then! Will you stop at 3?!! Really wish I could convince DH at the moment...he says he'd rather be shot then go through another pg with me....!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 05/09/2007 23:56

i want 4 cori but ive been advised by most of mn that 3 will be plenty to contend with!
lol

i may try to get a 4th after a few years, kind of 'accidently on purpose'.... only joking.

i think if i can manage with 3 and feel the urge he may go once more.... i dont know.

at one point he did agree to 4 but rapidly changed his ming once he sobered up a bit... lol

LadyOfTheFlowers · 05/09/2007 23:56

mind even!

bristols · 06/09/2007 11:01

Morning ladies,

Haven't been around for what feels like ages. Glad to hear everyone is doing well.

We've had a very busy week or two. DS was diagnosed with a chest infection last Wednesday and started on antibiotics. He was so poorly. It was pitiful to see. He just wanted to be cuddled and to sleep. Was quite scary to see, especially as he had never been ill before. Thankfully, he picked up quite quickly and is fine now.

DH whisked me off to London to celebrate my birthday. We stayed at the Ritz!! Was sooo luxurious and a real treat. We went to see Billy Eliott and Dirty Dancing at the theatre, both of which I'd highly recommend. The only slight problem was that I started with a sore throat and cold on the Friday morning. We still had a great time, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have done if on top form IYKWIM. Am still really poorly today and it's starting to get me down now. It has turned into laryngitis and I have no voice. Much to DH's delight! Am off sick from work but that's nice in a way because my parents are still here. They go back on Saturday.

We also have a walker here. He had taken a few steps before we went away but (sod's law) he walked right across the kitchen on my birthday. We won't forget that day!

Anyway, am off to dose myself up. What I wouldn't give for some Sudafed... The joys of being ill and being pg!

Will try very hard to keep up to date more regularly from now on. Promise

fairysnuff · 07/09/2007 18:41

Just back from our hols.
What a fab time we had!
DD was so good. PIL are utterly smitten!!

Have had 2 BFN pregnancy tests since returning AF due today. So we will see what happens over the weekend.
Fingers crossed for me??

Oh, I remember longing for sudafed during my first pregnancy Bristols.
Poor you.
But!! The RITZ!!!

And teh walking! DD is standinga alone with a grin on her face but not really thinking about walking just yet.
Though she has mastered going back down the stairs. It can take hours though!! She keeps going back up again before reaching the bottom!! And she can drink through a straw.
Everyone says that this makes life easier but I don't really see how?
At least witha cup, you can close it and take it home. With a juice box, what do you do if she doesn't finish it?

And she has mastered signing for milk! It was constant through the holiday, so I got her to master 'all gone' too

bristols · 07/09/2007 19:52

Fairy - sorry about the BFNs. Fingers crossed for you, though. Are you back in a regular cycle after DD?

Well done with the signing. I never really got into it with DS but it sounds as though it's paying off for you. I wonder if it's too late to start now?

Glad you had a great holiday. We're off to Cyprus at the end of October and can't wait. Next weekend, we are meeting with three other couples and two children at a huge cottage in the Malverns. I went to sixth form with the three men and they are bringing their wives/girlfriends to celebrate our 30th birhtdays. We're all really good friends and it's going to be brilliant. It's great that we've all stayed in touch.

Am still feeling poorly and it's starting to get me down now. I feel as though I should have turned the corner by now!

Mum and Dad are going back to France tomorrow and I know I'll be very sad to see them go. Hopefully we'll see them again at christmas but we're not sure yet.

Anyway, have a good weekend everyone...

fairysnuff · 07/09/2007 20:07

Oh No I don't think it is too late now. I would say, in hindsight, that I started too early. I wasted a lot of enegry and frustration. Now is when he will be able to understand you but not be able to express his needs. Try it out. It might still take a while though, I don't really know, but it will be worth it. I have a friend whos 18month is still not talking and although she can understand, her mum sometimes does not know what she is after. I think it might even be worth her giving it a go now. Never know, it might help.

Poor you though, feeling rubbish and your parents heding off. Still a holiday to look forward to
Doesn't help right now though

How many weeks are you now?

fairysnuff · 07/09/2007 20:09

Oh, forgot. Had 3 regulars, perfect 28 days cycle, free of any pills etc, but stil BF. Tried in the third.

huh, big sigh, time will tell. I am just trying to be patient and prepare myself for not being PG whilst also really hoping I am
