@cardboard33 She has only been licking foods such as strawberries, banana, carrot, cucumber. Confused as some friends are weaning their babies early and I attended a recent clinic whereby a member of staff said "we can't possibly advise you to wean earlier than 6 months" followed by a wink etc.

BadBadBeans · 06/08/2019 19:52

@cardboard33 I imagine that it is advice to eliminate any possibility of bacteria growing if the very top layer of frozen milk thaws slightly on contact with the warm milk before refreezing. In reality I think it is probably unlikely to cause a problem. As you say, I think I will try it and see if he gets an upset tummy. I can't imagine there would be time for enough bacteria to grow to cause him a serious problem? I am no biologist though! I've been super cautious otherwise in terms of sterilizing the pump with every single use, and washing my hands between everything, including before touching and opening the milk storage bags, so hopefully all will be well.

@citybumpkin we will start solids at 6 months, as we did for our eldest. It's all about exploring for the first couple of weeks anyway - barely any went in with BLW! I did end up doing purees as well because I was desperate to fill him up and reduce the milk feeds (I had a horrid time feeding DS1 to begin with and bled quite a bit for months). It certainly helped!

@melissa112 actually the last two nights have been good - about 8.30pm to 4.15am one night, then 10pm to 3am the next. Fingers crossed we have turned a corner and that George will soon too. X

melissa112 · 06/08/2019 20:09

@citybumpkin ha I think I'll need to get a book or something to help me along. I literally have no idea where to start apart from maybe carrots! How is she liking the foods shes tasted?

@cardboard33 yeh our PP is in the kitchen too so not sure what use it would be with the lights unless it was in your bedroom? Yeh I read about getting a sippy cup type thing. I think we're going to do a mix too. Oh I got a full refund with the mattress which was nice of them as I bought it in December and had taken it out of packaging and returned it in July! With the money I got back I got the mamas and papas mattress and a Joie mimzy LX high chair that was also a which best buy so I'm pretty happy. It gets good reviews so hope it's ok! Which ones are you looking at?

@BadBadBeans oh I'm glad you've had some better sleep, hopefully back on track now!

Wineandchoccy · 06/08/2019 20:48

We are starting weaning when she is 6 months which is in just over a weeks time but she has had a play with some broccoli tonight didn’t eat any but scrunched it in her hands, rubbed it in her hair then chucked it in the floor Grin
We are doing blw which I did with dd1 and she is a pretty good eater only thing she doesn’t like is chips, odd child!
To give water I either use a Tommee Tippee free flow 1st cup or a baby cup which looks like a shot glass.

citybumpkin · 06/08/2019 20:50

@melissa112 She loves everything so far!

Small victory in that she managed two lots of formula in a mam bottle today! Smile

citybumpkin · 06/08/2019 20:54

@BadBadBeans Ouch re the bleeding! You persevered though? We must be sadists!

Angelmiracle · 06/08/2019 22:44

@Jenfur result! That's great news!

@cardboard33 yeah I think I will begin to use some expressed out and about rather than getting in a sweat about where to BF and limiting the places I go - not that I feel I hold back but for example I'm meeting work colleagues for lunch next week and would rather not BF in their company iykwim.

DD also grabs behind her thighs to pull her legs towards her and that's tricky changing a poo nappy!!

@melissa112 oh that's not great George isn't sleeping the best right now - hope he settles in a day or 2. Poor you sat nursing him all day and cant get anything done! DD is the opposite in that she won't be put down all day so I still find it so challenging with 6yo DS and trying to cook do the washing etc.

Thanks for asking @melissa112 DD had a 38.4 temperature today again 😕 she slept 9.15pm-3.45am fed then slept to 9am. Coincidentally the HV rang (to check how we're getting on managing DS behaviour) & she reckons its a viral infection but obviously if her temperature wont come down I will take her to GP. Luckily the one dose of calpol has worked and her temperature has remained normal the rest of the day. Ended up BF her in our bed twice today to force her to nap and it worked.

Now DS has a scorching temperature! The calpol hasn't brought it down so just gave him nurofen and put a fan on in his room. Definitely must be a viral infection going around our house!

Agree with @Wineandchoccy using the Tommee Tippee free flow sippy cup - the anti spill ones are too difficult for them to suck from but these are good when they're a bit older and tend to shake water everywhere!!

These are the baby cups I mentioned I work in the dental field so these are what we recommend and it’s amazing how quick they learn to hold one of these.

Wineandchoccy · 07/08/2019 00:26

@Angelmiracle hope they both feel better soon.

@cardboard33 we have the Ikea antilop highchair which I can’t revom enough. Easy to clean, the right height for the dining table and they can’t slouch in it plus it’s £13.

@BadBadBeans I don’t know about your milk but I hope it’s ok it’s such hard work expressing so hopefully it’s ok.

@melissa112 hope you are having a better night they nights and days are very long they are hard to settle.

It’s really warm tonight and dd is awake feeding and taking ages to feed.
She has her hip scan on Thursday to check the slight click they found at the 8 week review anyone else has to have a scan?

HidCat · 07/08/2019 13:44

@cardboard33 unfortunately the penis preoccupation may never go away...

@BadBadBeans I'd personally try it and see how baby does. I've not heard any anecdotes of what happens if you feed them
Milk stored this way so maybe ask the HV?

Hope everyone's poorly little ones are doing ok. Big hugs to you.

Went to check out a nursery today so we've just got to do the paperwork and she's all set from October. Only 2 months left of mat leave 😓

cardboard33 · 07/08/2019 17:02

@citybumpkin ah ok, I've not had/heard anyone put it like that ... At the talk I went to they were very set on not before 6 months and said the only exception would be if your baby has bad reflux the doctor might advise doing it sooner, which is why I wondered if it could be an option for @sheeni.

@BadBadBeans you're much more diligent than me when it comes to sterilising the Hakka etc (I don't do it after each feed) so fingers crossed he doesn't get ill from it.

@Angelmiracle & @wineandchoccy thanks for the cup info!

One of my friends had to take her baby for a hip scan but this was when he was much younger as they picked it up at the hospital when he had just been born. It was fine and I don't think it was overly traumatic for the mum but I don't know the details.

@hidcat great!! I'm assuming it's better once they're out of nappies/the poos are more solid like?? Or is that just wishful thinking? I don't mind the being obsessed with it part as my brother was like that too, it's more I guess I'd not realised the impact this will have when changing them!!

@melissa112 oooh you've got the same high chair that I'm looking at, but I don't seem to be able to find the LX model anywhere? Is it called something else do you know? Where did you get yours from? I can find the mimzy, mimzy 360, mimzy stacker but nothing called LX. I've looked at the usual shops like JL, Mothercare, m&p etc.

Wineandchoccy · 07/08/2019 17:15

@cardboard33 That’s the lx I think boots sell it as well.
I have been looking at car seats and that kept coming up in my search.

There is a Facebook page called jolly tots they sell joie really cheap so might be worth a look

HidCat · 07/08/2019 20:21

@cardboard33 it's different when they're out of Nappies rather than easier. Mine took great pleasure in showing it off (some interesting conversations had in school)!

Sianlouise432 · 07/08/2019 21:47

@wineandchoccy my little one had a click detected at birth but it turned out to be nothing when we went for the scan. The actual procedure is fine though, might get a bit upset by being restrained but mine was nice and calm and he's usually fussy. Can't remember how old he was though, maybe 2 months.

@hidcat how was getting a nursery place? I'm a complete novice to this. My little one will only need childcare for the odd day when his dad is busy when I go back to work so unsure of what to do.

Read what I could but a bit delayed cause of being busy. LO is ebf but when my mum had him the other day he kept chewing his bottle so she put the milk in a sippy cup from IKEA and it worked better. Only problem is he was getting annoyed with my mum for trying to pace it cause he likes to guzzle milk. Always coughing and gagging on the breast. I might have forceful let down but can't unlatch him so he ends up coughing lol.

Can't wait for baby led weaning and sippy cups of expressed milk to give me a break!

He was born the end of March so only just 4 months but he's massive! However I asked the HV about feeding and she suggested blw at 6 months. So I said but he's so heavy! Surely he needs calories sooner and she was like nah breastmilk is all he needs. Sigh!

Sianlouise432 · 07/08/2019 21:48

The app keeps deleting my paragraphs, sorry.

Wineandchoccy · 07/08/2019 22:28

@Sianlouise432 Thank you dd’s Scan should have been 6 weeks ago but it’s been cancelled twice so 3rd time lucky tomorrow.

Angelmiracle · 08/08/2019 00:08

Btw do not buy the tommee tippee first sippy cup from Amazon as I bought one in Tesco's today for £1.50!

DD better form today no temperature. DS still not eating and has temperature tonight again..can't get a minute!

melissa112 · 08/08/2019 11:09

@Wineandchoccy and @Angelmiracle thanks for the cup recommendations. I shall pop to Tesco and pick up one of the tommee tippee ones. I'm probably being a bit thick, but is it but tommee tippee free flow to use first then the baby cup that @Wineandchoccy recommended? Do we offer water in the day too once weaning or just with meals? I think I really do need to do more research!

@Wineandchoccy how did you find BLW? Did you have a book or do a course or just play it by ear? The closer it gets, the more worried I'm getting! George had a scan at 2 weeks on his neck as he had a tear in his muscle. He was young so wasnt able to move too much but it was over quite quickly. Hope all goes ok today with the scan x

@Angelmiracle glad DDs temperature has dropped but sorry to hear your son is now suffering. Hope he's feeling up to eating today and fingers crossed for this virus to disappear asap! I thought I was struggling as I can't put him down at all during the day. I just have to sit and hold him for hours so he'll sleep, sometimes it gets to 5pm and I havent eaten yet. But I dont know how you do it with another little one to look after too!

@citybumpkin that's brilliant that youve had some success with the bottle!

@HidCat it's good that you've found a nursery you are happy with, did you have to search for long to find one?

@cardboard33 I think we got ours from Kiddies Kingdom. Free next day delivery. I did think it was from the same link that @Wineandchoccy posted but just checked my emails and Kiddies it was! But it's the same price I paid too and I've ordered from both sites before and had great service. Havent got it out of the box yet but happy with the reviews and the which review too!

@Sianlouise432 bless, I did smile at him getting annoyed with your mum for pacing him haha.

Well the past 2 nights we have had normal sleep! The only difference is that it's been cool enough in our room to pop him in a sleeping bag..no more feet grabbing! Daytime naps still a struggle but I'll take that. I feel like a new woman..!

Is anyone starting to think about baby in their own room? We still do all naps in the same room and he sleeps downstairs with us til we go to bed. I'm not planning on changing it til we get to 6 months and I'll probably then start putting him upstairs for naps in his cot in his room and putting him to bed upstairs but still in our room in his snuzpod. We go away to Cornwall for a week when he'll be 7.5months so he will share a room with us there. Any advice on whether to move him to his own room for the whole night before that or after we get back? I just dont want to mess things up by having him sleep with us for a week if hes gotten used to being in his room. I think I'm going to a start taking him in his room more during the day. He never goes in there so dont want it to be a shock. Wouldnt surprise me if I was over thinking it though...

Sorry for the essay!

melissa112 · 08/08/2019 11:11

Then again, thinking out loud, not even sure if the snuzpod would be suitable once he can sit up..

Wineandchoccy · 08/08/2019 11:27

@melissa112 I use the Tommee Tippee 1st and I think I started using the baby cup when she was about 9 months.
I read up about blw last time but honestly it’s very easy just no whole nuts, peanut butter etc is ok and no honey until 1.
Cut things into hand help chunks like chip shapes, grapes into slices lengthways.
Avoid to much salt and just give them whatever you are having don’t worry if they don’t eat much at 1st but all of a sudden it clicks and there is no stopping them. So much easier than purées.

Wineandchoccy · 08/08/2019 11:27

Dd’s Ultrasound went ok and no treatment needed for her hip

melissa112 · 08/08/2019 13:09

@Wineandchoccy thank you for the tips, I'm off to do more reading. And so glad all went ok with DDs scan, great news!!

ballanj · 08/08/2019 23:14

Hi everyone, I've been checking in and reading all your latest but struggling to get time to reply.

Our latest is that little man had his 16 week jabs last week which he handled better than myself, he is now in his own room and fingers crossed we seem to be leaving the 4 month regression. His little personality is shining through and presently we have a good hour of raspberry blowing most mornings.

Very much thinking about weaning soon. We have a highchair arriving Saturday and I'm thinking of starting with some porridge or weetabix mixed with his formula and having that as his late morning breakfast around 9:30/10:30am. Then introduce some other foods with the lunch bottle after a week of that and see how we go. It all seems very daunting though and need to do some reading up

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 09/08/2019 08:18

@ballanj how long was you lo in the sleep regression for? My LB is currently sleeping worse that he did as a newborn! It's so draining!
