@kee80 we're still in size 2. Little man still isn't 13lb yet but when it came to size 2 - he gained the weight long before they seemed right for him because of his shape. The weight is just a guide so stick with what feels best for you

Sheeni · 10/07/2019 14:42

We had a bit of bad news today and I'm so sad Sad
Finally went to see paediatrician at the hospital today and he was basically "oh don't worry about the silent reflux, it's a made up condition that covers like 30 actual conditions..." Which I could live with, but then he was like: "But your little one is awfully stiff and his head shape is quite unusual, let's talk about that." Basically he thinks my LO has craniosynostosis, which means the sutures between parts of his skull fused too early. If that's the case, he'll need a major operation to cut the suture open.
Here's my problem: if this is done by the time he's 6 months, there might be an option to do it via endoscopy. It's quicker, recovery is quicker, too. Smaller operation. However, doctor didn't even mention this? He's aiming for 9-12 months age.
What do I do to get more info, see if this can be sped up? I'm so lost in UK healthcare, having grown up in a completely different system.

melissa112 · 10/07/2019 14:42

@kee80 glad she seems ok after a nap, same here which is good. And thanks, I'm gonna give the insert a go!

I'm confused as we are using Aldi size 3 nappies and ours say 9-20lbs not 13lbs and over? He's been in them about a month and he's now 14lbs at least. They did seem a lot bigger than size 2 at first but we've had no troubles with leaks.

These are the ones

melissa112 · 10/07/2019 14:45

@Sheeni oh gosh what an awful shock for you. I'm so sorry to hear that. How are they going to find out if it is that? I'm not sure on how to speed it up unfortunately so have no advice on that part. Could you go back to the GP and mention what you have read about doing it before 6 months and ask why they wouldn't recommend that if it's easier recovery? Sending hugs xx

melissa112 · 10/07/2019 14:52

@kee80 / @Wineandchoccy just before i order it, is the insert ok for when the weather is warm? It doesn't get too hot or anything?

kee80 · 10/07/2019 15:06

@melissa112 yeah they are the same ones I've just bought and it says from 9lb-20lbs, no idea where I got from 13lbs from haha @WhatALearningCurve I will see how I get on with this pack and if we have any leaks I will go back to size 2 for a bit longer.
@melissa112 I only got mine a few days ago and the weather here hasn't been to hot at the moment just right so can't really advise on that one.

@Sheeni so sorry to hear of the news you've had today. I can't really comment on it, to be honest I've never heard of it. But like @melissa112 Said go back to your gp and discuss it with them, maybe get more help and advice

Brobot · 10/07/2019 17:29

@HidCat @Jenlou1992 my little one had a terrible night after his jabs last night. We were up several times with tears and calpol! Today he is still very crabby and only sleeping short bursts. @kee80 I've had little E in size 3 for a while now, he was 7kg at his last weigh in 2 weeks ago! It's funny, he was born 6lb 15 (very small considering the babies in this family are always in the 8.5lb region) and then ate like a champ after lol. He was back to his birth weight by day 3 🤣. @Sheeni I'm sorry to hear about your lo and what he'll have to go through. Hopefully your gp can shed some light on why the pediatrician wants to wait until at least 9 months.

Brobot · 10/07/2019 18:17

Ps I've had little Elliot strapped to me in the carrier all day as it's the only thing that has calmed him! I look like some kind of shit, confused Ghostbuster.

Wineandchoccy · 10/07/2019 18:32

@melissa112 sorry for the late reply yes that’s the one she doesn’t seem to hot in it just makes her more snug otherwise she looked a bit lost without it.

Wineandchoccy · 10/07/2019 18:34

@kee80 I never understand the weights on nappies neither of my dd’s have been on the correct nappy based on their weight.

Wineandchoccy · 10/07/2019 18:36

@Sheeni oh that’s a lot to take in like the others have said can you go back and discuss with your GP, hugs what a shock for you x

melissa112 · 10/07/2019 20:39

@Wineandchoccy so we've put the insert on the pioneer and tried him in it. He looks much happier although we havent been for a walk yet. Do you have the seat liner in too? We've got the seat liner, insert and hood. DP says its too hot for the foot muff thing but then what do we do about keeping him covered if its sunny? Have you kept the footmuff on yours?

@kee80 haha probably the size 2 going up to 13lbs i reckon! The insert looks so comfy, how nice to be pushed around with a lovely padded head rest. Hope your LO is still ok after the jabs.

@Brobot sorry your LO is still struggling after his jabs..we're just getting some crankiness now after being fine all day. We've been giving him calpol nut he brought up loads of milk straight after his last dose so not sure if he has taken any now. He can be quite cranky when going to sleep anyway so hoping its just that. I did laugh at your Ghostbusters comment! Hope you have a better night tonight x

HidCat · 10/07/2019 21:19

@Brobot that's so generous!

@kee80 we've had a very sleepy day today but of course now it's bedtime she won't sleep atm but she is calm and having cuddles. I hope your LO is ok.

@melissa112 the pushchair is lie flat but I have her in the lowest raised setting. I've had to secure the straps by tucking them forward into the higher setting as they're a bit long but it's worked brilliantly and it's really secure that way. I either put her in trousers and socks or wrap a Muslin over her legs rather than use the foot muff.

@kee80 I've got mine in size 3 for overnight (reusables during the day) as size 2 weren't cutting it. She is 14lb and we're on our second pack so about two weeks ago. Used Asda Little Angels first and now using Aldi but will go back to Asda as I prefer them.

@Sheeni I would either ask for a second opinion or seek for a speedier referral if possible. That sounds really scary but I'm sure it will be fine.

kee80 · 10/07/2019 21:30

@HidCat @melissa112 she woke up from an hour nap after jabs and she was fine for about 30 mins then she got quite warm and really cranky and moaning so gave her the next dose of calpol and she had a 3 hour nap. She's woke up and seems fine now so hoping she's slept the worse off.
Hope your little ones get a good night

Brobot · 10/07/2019 22:06

I've had a super cranky baby all day. My husband has arrived home thank the lord! Can anyone shed some light on why he wakes EVERY NIGHT exactly 45 minutes after going to sleep? It's driving me batty. It doesn't matter what time he goes to sleep each night, he always wakes and doesn't go back over even if I try to feed or rock him. It also doesn't matter what naps he has had throughout the day 😣😣

Wineandchoccy · 10/07/2019 22:26

@melissa112 depends on the weather but mainly I have kept the foot muff on. I have a sheepskin liner then the newborn insert.

Brobot · 10/07/2019 23:30

Little E is having another awful night. I've had to alternate between calpol and nurofen all day today and each time it wears off he starts screaming. He was (finally) asleep beside me and woke up crying and is now being consoled by my husband downstairs.

Sheeni · 10/07/2019 23:35

@brobot I think 45 minutes is a normal baby sleep cycle, so it looks like your LO can't transition between cycles. Which at such a young age is apparently quite normal. Might be pronounced more if he's going through the sleep regression? Mine is the same on the very rare occasions when he actually falls asleep in his cot. He's transitioning ok when sleeping on me.

Thank you all for kind words. I'll try and talk to the paediatrician tomorrow, as I have quite a few questions now that I thought about it a bit more.

On a more positive note, my clever cookie figured out how to turn from back to tummy, doesn't need to be placed on his side anymore. He's very pleased with himself.

Jenfur · 11/07/2019 08:01

Sorry, I keep reading and not getting round to replying then there's too much to reply to by the time I do!

@Sheeni that must have been an awful shock for you. I don't know what to do but definitely speak to GP or the paediatrician again to at least ask about having the op sooner.

cardboard33 · 11/07/2019 09:17

@sheeni I'm sorry you didn't get the news you were hoping for, that sounds like a lot to take in when you're not expecting it. Depending on exactly how old your baby is, it could be that they just don't think there will be time to get all of the prep (if there is any) done in the next few weeks for him to have it before he's 6 months. Depending on the procedure it may be that he needs an MRI scan (totally painless) etc before they can do surgery. In my experience they only do X operation on X day so it could also be that they're already full for the next couple of weeks, particularly if they've got to cover holidays etc too. However as other people have said, ask these questions to your GP and to the team that told you this at your follow up appointment and see what they say. I've generally found it helps to write questions down then I don't forget to ask them. Also, unsure of your situation but do you have private medical insurance too? If so you might be able to get the same op but sooner going via that route. Also.... as someone who has had major head surgery as an adult (to my brain though rather than my skull) it generally sounds far far worse than it actually is when they explain how they do it. It's completely different but I was out of hospital within 2 days and back to work within 6 weeks. I genuinely didn't find it painful, it was the thinking about it happening that was more painful. Keep that in mind.

@melissa112 going to the gp again about your anxiety sounds like a good idea, and as others have said, also see what support the health visitor team offer to new mums as this is also impacting on George too so they will also be able to help. The GP may not know or think to connect you. Mine is nearly 19 weeks now. Wow. Time flies. Still think it's funny that I had one of the latest due dates and spent the entire pregnancy being "envious" of those a few weeks ahead of me as it felt like I had ages to go until the scans etc, then queue jumped and ended up with one of the oldest babies. Que sera sera.

Brobot · 11/07/2019 09:54

@melissa I am in the same boat with anxiety. It physically shook for weeks after the birth and it went away but came back at around 10 weeks. I had this constant feeling of fear and it was awful. I went to the doctors last week and was diagnosed with postnatal depression and to be honest I have been feeling much better since. They upped my sertraline and just having it acknowledged really helped. I also am the same about cold sores! I get them very occasionally and for weeks I was terrified to kiss my lo even though I didn't have one! If it helps, the danger is high when they are under 3 months and after that they don't react badly like they would when they were smaller. That didnt help me though lol I was/am still paranoid about anyone kissing him!

Brobot · 11/07/2019 10:40

@Sheeni thanks, I think you're right about his sleep cycle. I just don't know why the time after that he goes down and sleeps for 3 hours or so. Surely he should wake 45 minutes after the second time too? Because it would be an hour or two after his first waking. It's like he thinks it's just another day nap. Very frustrating. But I suppose I can't really expect much progress at the minute with everything that's going on with his little body and brain!

Footymum81 · 11/07/2019 11:37

@Sheeni hope you get some answers once you see the GP. I can’t imagine how you must have felt when they told you hugs

Freddie’s a bit of a chunk so he outgrew the newborn nappies weight-wise very quickly. We’ve resorted to paying out for pampers as their size 2 is suitable for up to 18lb rather than the 13lb that all the store brands stop at. (Getting him weighed tomorrow but he was 16lb at 13 weeks!) We’re going to try Aldi’s once these are too small.

We’ve had the pushchair (second-hand Silver Cross pramette style one) on the first recline setting rather than flat when he’s awake for a few weeks now. Any higher and he looks rather slumped over still.

We’re very lucky where we are in that there’s lots of free activities laid on for babies. Our main library has an under 1s sensory session on Mondays, baby and toddler rhyme time on Tuesdays and Thursdays, under 1s rhyme time on wednesdays. We also visit a local library on Fridays for another sensory session on Fridays which also has a drop-in weighing clinic. My favourite group though is the La Lache League as everyone’s so friendly and they have AMAZING cake!

Brobot · 11/07/2019 18:09

@melissa after just saying that about coldsores I've just had one appear on my lip!!! Now I cant kiss little E which I do about 7 thousand times a day. I've got it well covered with one of those compede patch things 😣

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 11/07/2019 21:21

I'm not sure about where you all are, but it's bloody sweltering here today. It's currently 25.3 degrees in our bedroom. We've had the windows and curtains drawn all day to stop the heat getting in which obviously hasn't worked as it reached 26 degrees at one point! Windows are now wide open with the fan on.
I'm planning on putting him down in just his nappy as I've had to strip him down from his vest as he was sweating! Not sure if he's going to wake up cold though. What's everyone putting their LOs in tonight?
