Daisy, PMSL at you "keeping your real nappies pristine and nice" - good luck with that!!!

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/07/2007 13:51

are there not bits of it that mean you are making a rod for your own back...like putting bub to sleep in a darkened room all the time; surely its better for them to learn to sleep anywhere?

not that I want to open up that whole debate again.

but i see why you keep quiet about it...a HV who subscribes to that *book8....they'd be after you with pitchforks at dawn if they knew

derlor · 18/07/2007 14:07

yes i'd probably be sacked!!!!!!!!

i never recommend it at work though.

we don't follow all of it to the letter, i've adapted it to suit me. we've been doing it for 3 weks now so when we go out she still sleeps just as well. she's actually now naturally doing it herself pretty much anyway. but im not anal about it, i just go with the flow and most days work for us x sorry left handed typing !!

Jamantha · 18/07/2007 14:13

which nappies are you getting, daisy?

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/07/2007 14:22

do babies need to be entertained at this age.

babyboo is very unsettled today. she has fed three times since 9 this morning. she's had a big pooey nappy and has been changed. she isn't wet. she's nodded off twice now, once for 20 mins other time for 25 mins, but each time only stayed sleeping for 15 mins after being put in the carrycot.

I don't know what to do with her.

I promised DH i would sort out the office as he's supposed to be working from home tomorrow and Thursday and the desk is covered in washing....haven't done a bloody thing and only just managed to make some lunch.

I'm sure he thinks i just sit on my arse on MN all day...well I do, but usually with bub either attached to my nork or sleeping on top of me.

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/07/2007 14:29

nappies....now there's a story. I've done so much research on it that I'm more clueless than when I started.

I'm about to order a sample pack from Flame (a MNer) which has bambinex (used to be Bambineo) teddy microfibre, a bambinex bamboo, and a wonderoos pocket nappy with a motherease rikki wrap. I'm also ordering a quick flip light which has a detachable inner. I also plan on getting our councils trial pack of babybehind cotton and bamboo witha wrap. Then I'll see what I like.

I also saw a website for little lambs where you can get a starter pack including bucket and bath (?) with 20nappies and 10 wraps for £135.00. they are supposed to be very good nappies so am considering those.

How you getting on with the diddy diapers. The Nappy Lady site didn't rate them very highly and as such don't even sell them!

Jamantha · 18/07/2007 14:31

finding the diddy diapers fine. and love the look of them on the line

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/07/2007 14:32

Jamantha, are real nappies very bulky under clothes....and do clothes for their age range fit over them OK? I read somewhere that modern clothes are cut for disposable nappies and you have to watch what style you get as some things (like vests) don't fit terribly well.

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/07/2007 14:35

ikwym...they all look sooo cute. dh thinks i'm mad, but is happy that we are doing our bit for the environment.

Jamantha · 18/07/2007 14:39

her bum does look big in them () and all she's worn so far is vests and babygros, but they fit fine

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/07/2007 14:42

lol you're probably giving her a lifetime of big bum paranoia

do diddy diapers have velcro or nippa fastening?

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/07/2007 14:45

should add doing our bit for our bank balance. we costed it out that we will save around £900 on the actual cost of buying disposables, and of the £400ish outlay on real ones, we'll probably get about a third to half of that back when we sell them afterwards. Its a no-brainer really.

Jamantha · 18/07/2007 14:47

normal dd's come in either, the ones in faster-drying micro fibre materials just with nippa fastenings.

We're being given 2 bags of nappies and wraps from someone my sister knows, who's never met me, and doesn't even want any money. They've just finished with them and want them to go to good use. Isn't that nice?

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/07/2007 14:49

wow that's great, it'll save you loads.

annobal has kindly offered me some toddler sized fuzzibunz

Jamantha · 18/07/2007 14:51

We're going to make a donation to a charity, but yes even so it'll save loads

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/07/2007 14:53

you could always sell them when you are done with them and donate that.

right off to school run. babyboo finally sleeping, but still in my arms.

BadZelda · 18/07/2007 15:15

PHEW BOTH of them are asleep....thought I'd pop on to say hello as it's ages since I've had any time. Looks like you're all talking about nappies? www.thenappylady.co.uk sound familiar? what else has happened over the last couple of weeks? hope everyone's well?

BadZelda · 18/07/2007 16:14

finally caught up...but it looks like everyone else has buggered off...dammit. Oh well will try and make it back soon...Ella's woken up now and is demanding attention (know what you mean Holly about them being more work than the baby - she's currently swinging between angel and TOTAL FUCKING NIGHTMARE...oh well)

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/07/2007 16:20

hey B...I'm here, as ever. Been glued to the sofa by small whiney girl today. Managed to get her to sleep for about 40 mins, but that's the longest stretch she's had.

Wotcha been up to then...doing your book?

RedFraggle · 18/07/2007 16:25

I used totsbots with DD for quite a while (had to stop as her eczema flared up and then never did get back into them ) I have them in the cupboard for when DS is a bit bigger. I did find that some trousers from Next etc wouldn't fit over the nappies. Generally I found it easiest to buy strtchy style trousers as they were guaranteed to fit!
They look adorable on though (real nappies that is)

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/07/2007 16:36

Cheers for that RF.

Can't wait to get my real nappies now.

SmilingKiwi · 18/07/2007 17:17

HELLO!!!!

Well my folks have just left the UK all very sad to say good bye, but I can now pay some important attention to things like MN!
I promise to post a birth announcement when I have a chance but here's the abridged edition...
We got our homebirth! 23rd June (8 days late)Beau William arrived after 12 hours of very manageable labour (midwife went to sleep!) everything was just incredible, got by on using only a TENS machine for painrelief! DH was the best support and giving birth was the most amazing experience..I feel very lucky!
Since then its been a ride roller coaster of First Time Parents!Breast feeding going OK so far, sleep- we'll get whatever we can and he can do 5-6 hour stretches to keep us sane. But I must say the whole 'wind' issue is what gets me the most- feel very helpless and he is just such a different baby (ie a distressed crying LO). Now, all you knowledgable ladies do tell your lists of foods to avoid if BF to help prevent wind!
I have had lurking time only so I have been around, and I just want to say congratulations to everyone and their new bundles!
xx

trendaverter · 18/07/2007 18:41

good lord
DS now weighs 10lb... that's 2.5lbs gained since birth 3.5 weeks ago

Help!

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/07/2007 18:50

hey smilingkiwi.....you sound as though you're doing really well

Congratulations on the home birth, it sounds like it was a great experience.

I've not noticed babyboo getting particularly windy with anything specific that I've eaten (apart from sherbet lemon sweets ), but what is supposed to be good is if you drink fennel tea.

I ate loads of chocolate yesterday and babyboo hasn't stopped feeding today...maybe it's chocolate flavoured, LOL

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/07/2007 18:51

wow TA, babyboo has put on 2lbs in six weeks!!
