@Yakadee. I get the same irrational rage with my DH. Tends to be when she is napping during the day. Everything he does just seems so loud and usually disturbs her. So annoying when it’s simetimes taken me a while to get her to sleep!

Yakadee · 01/07/2019 08:34

@bubblybrit - what a rubbish night, I blame hubby Haha. She didn't fall asleep for ages,l but when she did, she was rolling everywhere and getting stuck! Lol x

bubblybrit · 01/07/2019 08:47

That sounds like a tough night @Yakadee. Hope you are able to have a fairly relaxed day to compensate! X

Yakadee · 01/07/2019 13:11

@bubblybrit - my son is at nursery so just the little roller to watch! X

maxiflump1 · 01/07/2019 20:37

@detachablehoof so so pleased you are feeling better. Thinking about baby number 2 is a great sign! I was adamant I wasn't going to have another for a good 18 months and i didn't have PND!

How are your babies coping in this heat? Max's bedroom is 24.5 degrees despite the window being open and we've even been switching the hot water off in the evening! I've just been putting him to sleep in a babygro without a sleeping bag but a bit worried he might get cool in the early hours. He woke a couple of time in the night last night but went back down with a cuddle.

bubblybrit · 02/07/2019 18:58

@maxiflump1. My little girl has been wearing a babygro to bed as well - no sleeping bag. The temp has fluctuated between 22 and 24 and she seems warm enough at night. I’ve been checking on her a few times and think if I added a sleeping bag that she would be far too hot....mind you I’ve only got a 2.5 tog and not a lighter version x

Yakadee · 02/07/2019 20:48

My LG has been in a long sleeved vest, nothing on the bottom and a light (1tog) sleeping bag. It's not as warm as where you guys are, maybe 21 and she feels plenty warm enough. She's a roller anyway so want to limit that as much as I can while it's not too hot!

I got one of those breathable bumpers today and it looks good. Just put her down now so we'll see how it goes. No way she can get stuck now! Lol x

Since2016 · 08/07/2019 12:06

Sooooo we have the first tooth! She’s been coping admirably tbh, not needed anything other than the occasional finger to chew on.

5 months already... where is time going! Weaning round the corner.. anyone started yet?

Notquiteagandt · 08/07/2019 12:33

@since2016 the dietician has given us go ahead and encoraged weaning as baby is 6months end of month. But I will be waiting until then. She can only sit independantly for about 10seconds so far. She needs a cushion or something to sit on otherwise. So thats final sign of rediness we are waiting for. I also was advised if weaning her now have to be puree and im super kean to BLW.

It is getting harder to delay now I cant eat in same room as her or even sip water as she has a temper tantrum to have some 🤣

detachablehoof · 08/07/2019 14:36

I'm finding it more and more of a battle to get my daughter (20 wks) to have milk. She's gone from having 5-6 6oz bottles to having 5 5oz per day. So I've started giving her porridge (made with milk) before bed and half an Ella's kitchen pouch at lunch time. She's been having that for a week now and always finishes what I give her, and hasn't reduced her milk intake, so I think I'll introduce breakfast too next week.

Not sure whether to do porridge in the morning and swap her before bedtime for something else or what?

Very pleased - she's sleeping much better since I started weaning too!

maxiflump1 · 10/07/2019 12:16

Max is getting on well with porridge and purée. Looking forward to starting him on some BLW food next month. He's not dropped any milk either. The last few nights he's woken at midnight and 4am for bottles.... no sign of sleep regression abating here 😴😴

detachablehoof · 14/07/2019 17:47

Hmm so now she wants four meals a day. Which is fine.... but she's drastically reduced her milk intake 🙄 and is mildly constipated. I've been giving her water with her meals (as well as prune puree in her porridge!) but I don't know whether I should be worried about the nutritional effect of her having less milk? My instinct is that she will be fine, but the official guidance is pretty strong about milk being the main source of nutrition!

I don't really feel like I can ask the HV for advice as technically I shouldn't have begun weaning just yet.

Celebelly · 14/07/2019 17:51

Can you mix her meals with milk to make sure she's getting enough nutrients?

Celebelly · 14/07/2019 17:53

Baby E has an eye infection. It looks so sore bless her, and putting the eye drops is an ordeal! She's still thriving just on breastmilk so don't think we will wean until she's just about six months (partly laziness as it seems like a lot more work too Grin).

OP posts:
detachablehoof · 14/07/2019 22:25

@celebelly I had been doing that but I wonder if that is contributing to the constipation- as porridge already has milk powder in. Maybe I'll buy oats and grind them to mix with milk instead.

I've found weaning really fun / non-stressful so far - but it is a bit of a faff (especially now she seems to need four meals a day - can't leave the house without even more clobber now!)

I keep saying to everyone how much I LOVE this age and it's the best age. But I've been saying that for about six weeks now haha. Really really enjoying watching her grow up 😍

detachablehoof · 14/07/2019 22:27

Wondering about switching to fast flow teats to see if that would help her take more milk, although they do say 6m+. My main worry is that she isn't getting enough protein or calcium or something 🙈 am I being rational or paranoid?!

1stTimeTina · 15/07/2019 08:24

We tried baby porridge for the first time yesterday, we still gave her the bottle afterwards and she woke up for a night feed. She's slept 12 hours a night for over a month, I'm gutted! Could it be the food?

maxiflump1 · 15/07/2019 10:49

@detachablehoof I'm no expert but I think I would try and limit her to just 2 meals a day at the moment. She really needs the calories from the formula and if she's falsely filling up on purée she's not going to fill hungry for milk.

@1stTimeTina it could be a one off or it could be some sort of sleep regression. My DS slept for 12 hours a night for a month and then it all went to pot!

bubblybrit · 15/07/2019 14:18

My DD had her 16 week jabs on Friday (she is 21 weeks but GP cancelled two appointments) and she still seems really unsettled. She is very grumpy, wants to sleep a lot during the day and isn’t taking as much milk. I am assuming this is fairly standard but thought best to check? I’m more worried about the increase in sleep during the day. Sometimes she is only awake for an hour and needs another nap!

Notquiteagandt · 15/07/2019 17:52

@bubblybrit my daughters the same and all the jabs are long gone. Think weather and a huge growth spurt. My daughters a couple weeks older but been same last week or so.

Im getting excited to try weaning now. We arent 6months until end month though so still a few weeks off. Im reading all your trials and tribulations for advice though.

bubblybrit · 15/07/2019 19:33

@Notquiteagandt. Yeah I think you are right regarding the weather. I’m hoping it’s just the jabs working the way through her system as she is sleeping better during the day but worse at night 😬

detachablehoof · 15/07/2019 22:35

I'm not worried about her calorie intake as she's getting that from the porridge / purees, but I'm worried she isn't getting enough of the right nutrients..?

She slept through last night for the first time ever! I've been eagerly awaiting the day when this would happen but actually I'm a bit worried about her dropping her 5am feed as that is the only decent (4-5oz) feed she takes. She did take a bit more formula than usual at breakfast and lunchtime. Will be interesting to see what happens tonight!

Since2016 · 16/07/2019 12:14

Gah we had our first a&e visit on Sunday. Suspected croup / bronchiolitis. Team were fab but Christ she gave me a fright. Hyper aware cos of her sisters history.

Anyway! We seem to have skipped the 4 month sleep regression.... now I’m sure this will be famous last words! Still wakes once a night but is a bloody dream otherwise.

DH and I discussed weaning yesterday. She’s 6 months on the 7th and she’s not sitting independently yet. We’ve agreed not to start till 7 months (mostly cos it’s a faff) as we’ll be doing BLW again and we’ve FINALLY sold our house and just had an offer accepted on another so got a LOT going on.

@detachablehoof it’s so lovely to hear how well you’re doing after a rocky start. I’m also feeling SO much better and enjoying it now again. I feel terrible for not seeking help sooner but hindsight is a wonderful thing...

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 17/07/2019 12:34

We’ve started weaning... yesterday was the second day and he is loving it! 😂

@NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking - we've just started too. Nothing too much just yet but just a taster. She loves toast (at least she loves sucking toast!). X
