@wineandchoccy thank you! It’s taken us ages to decide and now I feel weirdly nervous excited about it! Thanks for the link I’ve got some aloe so just going to crack on with that.

Also she keeps latching on and then not actually doing any feeding and dozing on the breast. A volunteer told me to tickle her etc but she’s just not cracking on. She has already fed a lot this morning already.

KarBB · 29/03/2019 11:05

@Gronk27 welcome! I'm not sure about the freezer pads but I alternated between Paracetamol & Ibuprofen every 2 hours for at least a week which helped & spent most of my time horizontal so as not to put any pressure on that area....also used the super thick pads even though flow wasn't that heavy to provide extra padding!

KarBB · 29/03/2019 11:08

@Sheeni I've had a few cluster feeding marathons like that and they are HELL on EARTH after the first few hours. I think you have to do whatever you can to survive. At one point I considered sleeping with baby on the floor (we have a foam play mat) to keep him away from duvets & me right beside him to feed every 20 mins. The thing that really gets me is that if I don't wind him enough he gets uncomfortable but when they are feeding that regularly if you wait to burp them before putting down after each feed they'll be ready to go again as soon as they've burped. Impossible to win!

Gronk27 · 29/03/2019 11:14

@KarBB thank you! I’m already prescribed paracetamol and ibuprofen and been given times to take them. I think it’s because I keep having to sit up to feed but might try the lying down position.

Sheeni · 29/03/2019 12:33

@KarBB I know, right?! I feed him, he dozes off, I try to burp him and he's wide awake and ready to eat again! It's a vicious circle.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 29/03/2019 14:19

Lovely name @Gronk27

Milk is produced on demand, so don't worry about not having time for your boobs to fill up between feeds. Give it a few weeks and it won't feel like you have any stored in your boobs

Sheeni · 29/03/2019 14:51

Ladies, is anyone else having trouble sleeping? My husband tries to give me a chance by taking care of the little one, but I just lie in bed and stress about everything. It kicked off my IBS quite a bit too, and my appetite went to hell (I'm practically force feeding myself).
Any advice anyone? Sad

Jenfur · 29/03/2019 15:35

@Sheeni no advice I'm afraid, I did struggle to sleep when I was given a chance the other night but it didn't take too long. I think it was probably being overtired that caused it.

Does anyone have any information about breastfeeding time? Baby feeds every 1-3 hours basically but only for 10-15 minutes at a time. The midwife the other day said that it takes 20 mins for the good hind milk to come through so he needs to be feeding for at least 20 mins at a time. He tends to fall asleep feeding, I can try to wake him up but tickling etc just doesn't work so would have to do full nappy change to get a real response and even then he tends to not want any more boob. I've read lots online about babies sometimes wanting a snack and other times a 3 course dinner so how can they possibly have to feed for a minimum of 20 minutes every time?

MistakenHoliday · 29/03/2019 16:22

Hi @Gronk27 👋🏻 What a lovely name for DD!

@Sheeni I'm currently trying to nap before picking DD1 up from nursery and having no luck. I think it's the adrenaline from the last two weeks catching up with me. Just relaxing and resting is beneficial too though so plenty of Netflix is the order of the day!

My appetite has gone too - I'm only really eating because we're doing regular meals for DD1, otherwise I don't think I'd bother cooking at all.

How is sleep going for everyone? DD2 sleeps like a champ during the day but refuses to sleep once midnight rolls around. She's a grunty thing too - so much noise even when she looks completely peaceful!!

KarBB · 29/03/2019 16:23

@Sheeni - sorry to hear your struggling to sleep. I'm doing okay now 🤞 though I find I sleep so lightly & keep waking up at baby's every grunt & squeak.
I've had insomnia & anxiety in the past & have found guided meditations help me a lot. You could try the 'headspace' & 'calm' apps. They have lots of free content but I subscribe to headspace now & think all the 'sleepcasts' are amazing and I use it almost every day. Also good is 'yoga nidra' meditations. I'll post a link to one I have been using since baby was born. I also do lots of deep breathing & 'progressive muscle relaxation'. I've found it invaluable to get an hour or so's sleep in the evening while DP looks after the babe in a different room, so that I can't hear any noises - it doesn't always work out as a large wail pierces through doors & walls but when it does it's great . Sleep is so important for our sanity so if you can't get any rest soon maybe go chat to your GP to see if they can help. X

KarBB · 29/03/2019 16:28

@MistakenHoliday we have a similar sleep pattern - dozy days & oh so wakey at night! And the grunting & squeaking is so noisy...

MistakenHoliday · 29/03/2019 16:29

Thank god I'm not the only one @KarBB Smile How old is yours now? I'm hoping it's something she'll grow out of (ideally by tonight)!

KarBB · 29/03/2019 16:54

@MistakenHoliday 25days... how about yours? I'm hanging onto this idea that sleep starts improving at 6weeks- but I can't remember where I got it from...

Hermagsjesty · 29/03/2019 17:02

@sheeni I struggle to sleep too - I think it’s a combination of over tiredness and adrenalin. A nice relaxing bath with lavender bubble bath has been helping. I also do deep breathing. I think even if you just get a relaxing lie down it can help you to feel recharged.

WhatALearningCurve · 29/03/2019 17:37

Sleep wise - I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop because compared to you guys I am living the dream at the moment and I'm not expecting it to continue!

He can quite happily sleep for a 5 hour stretch so by the time we go to bed I'm only having to wake up for one or two feeds, depending on the time he wakes up for the first one I might have to do a 2nd one but if the second one falls between 6/7am then I just get up and let him doze on me for a bit whilst I binge watch bad tv (the Say Yes to the Dress marathons on TLC are proving to be a godsend)

KarBB · 29/03/2019 17:44

@WhatALearningCurve Wow! I am the green eyed monster of jealousy! How old is your LO?

WhatALearningCurve · 29/03/2019 17:50

23 days! No idea how I've managed it ha. He's just a creature of habit it seems, I was in hospital for a week after the birth and even then his feeds were 3 hourly like clockwork. He seems to go through a couple of hours in the morning where he feeds every 2 hours but that seems to be between 7 and 12 which are his "awake" hours but otherwise it's very 4-5 hours

Gronk27 · 29/03/2019 17:55

Took LO to meet her grandparents, MIL’a first comment ‘are you having another one’. Seriously! I’ve been home a day.

Sheeni · 29/03/2019 18:03

Mine is just a week old. Am I just being impatient and overthinking things?

MistakenHoliday · 29/03/2019 18:30

Two weeks today so I'm a bit behind you @KarBB I remember being told six weeks is a turning point when I had DD1, but she has reflux so that point only really came when she went into solids and stopped throwing up nearly every feed like the girl in the Exorcist 😂 Fingers crossed for us both!

MistakenHoliday · 29/03/2019 18:37

@WhatALearningCurve I am insanely jealous! Long may it continue

@Gronk27 OMG what did you say?! My MIL wanted to know all about the labour and both. I did NOT want to talk about the labour and birth...

@Sheeni I think overthinking is par for the course at this point - you should see my 2am Google history Smile

SquirtlesMumAgain · 29/03/2019 22:07

@jenfur pretty sure the Fore/hind milk myth has been busted. DS never used to feed more than 15 mins, usually closer to 5-10 mins each side.

Have you looked at Kellymom or la letche league?

Gronk27 · 29/03/2019 23:37

@mistakenholiday nothing, she’s a bit of a character. I’d already made the effort to ring her this morning and decided it would be nice for Adela to meet her grandparents despite MWs being very clear that I’m to recover. And I get ‘I thought you’d forgotten us’ and disappointment that she won’t see us Sunday, etc. She’s just had a knee replacement so we were comparing cannulas. What gets me is she remembers every slight or comment ever made to her but when she says it it’s ok. My DH said she was not to ask me about the birth but that she should let me tell her in my own time/way. ‘I did warn you’ was her main response. I was more shocked than anything and surely she knows your tummy takes time to go down?!

KarBB · 30/03/2019 00:45

@Jenfur It says in my BF book that anything between5 & 45mins is 'normal' for feeding...
