After a tiring day with no naps had a crap night. DD would not settle after midnight feed. At 1.30 I took her downstairs so that DH could sleep and I at least had some TV for company as I tried to soothe her. Finally got her asleep at 3.45 until 4.45 when she woke with wet nappy. Fed her after that and thankfully she resettled. She's still asleep, but I got woken by the cat for her breakfast at 6.45 and now am awake, despite being exhausted. Pleeeease let it be a restful day.

trendaverter · 09/07/2007 07:29

Hallo Bumper
No idea if Dentinox works but I give it to S and for the most part we have a restful baby now (again, touch wood). Giving plenty (well, about 2oz) of cooled boiled water a day seems to help no end too.

It does smell vile doesn't it? After a bottle they no longer smell of baby, but of Dentinox...I figure that anything that smells THAT bad must work?!

foxybrown · 09/07/2007 09:14

Hi everyone.

Thanks Ria, will update later. Hope DH gets work sorted. We are here if you need to vent!

Jamantha, sounds like a tough night. Be kind to yourself today is the best advice I can give. I remember nights and days like that vividly, and here I am can't wait to go through them again. Oh how I'll be singing a different song next week!

Bumper - I'm sorry I can't help, but I hope you have a better day. It will get better is all I can say!

Lots of love to everyone else. Am off to the cafe for breakfast and then hospital. xx

bumperlicious · 09/07/2007 10:20

hi again. jamantha sorry you've had a shit night, hope your day is better.

good luck at the hospital foxy. hope you are doing ok.

sling finally came and its fab! DD in it and snug as a bug! shame to wake her for a change and a feed!

Ria...good for you standing your ground. Hopefully he'll get something straight away, I assume there's lots of work in the summer and that agency work pays better than salaried. I'm not sure on the laws on paternity leave, but they wouldn't be able to treat a woman like that. You should get some advice on that.

foxy...belated good luck to you, it's going to happen soon enough.

sorry to hear about the wind bumper....is it maybe something you're eating or drinking? Try keeping a food diary and see if there's any one thing that leaps out at you.

Sounds like a bad night Jamantha.....at least there's 24 hour telly these days, even if it is crap in the wee small hours.

I'm still absolutely knackered in spite of my 10 o'clock bedtime. DD was up at 12:30 and didn't go down again till 2:00, and then she was up again at 5:00. thankfully DH got DS breakfasted and ready for school this morning before he left at 7.....he brought me a cuppa as he left....and the next thing I knew it was 8:00! Cue panic stations as i tried to get dressed, feed DD, get DSs book bag and pe kit sorted and shoes polished, all in the space of 35 minutes.....we made it by the skin of our teeth, but we made it!

Now i suppose i should wash my face at least!

hollyandalicewillbedogtanian · 09/07/2007 10:41

Well done for getting MRR to school on time daisy! Now go and have a nap!

Sorry to all with sleepless nights and windy babies. I really feel for you, ALice was a horrible screamy windy baby and it was awful for the first couple of months. It does get better, trust me! William seems to be quite a chilled out baby and doesn't really scream very much. I'm very lucky!

Jamantha · 09/07/2007 10:50

thanks for support guys. And you've humbled me daisy. I may have been exhausted, but at least once she'd fed at 8, I got some kip until 10 - didn't have other DCs to tend to.

trendaverter · 09/07/2007 10:53

Why has Foxy gone to hospital? But good luck anyhoo!
Waiting for my HV to arrive, she is coming to check up on me after my semi nervous breakdown last week

Feeling ok today... S is still windy and colicky but nowhere near as bad as before. Bless his cotton socks it's horrible seeing him in pain.

hollyandalicewillbedogtanian · 09/07/2007 11:03

She's gone for a scan TA to check placenta function is ok. Glad you and your little man are well this morning.

daisyandbabybootoo · 09/07/2007 11:04

no rest for me.....babyboo is being really fretful and unsettled and i don't know what's wrong with her

bumperlicious · 09/07/2007 11:54

am i making a rod for my own back with this sling? She is settled in it but i don't want her to stop being able to settle herself. Plus we've become a slave to the god damn dummy. She loves it but keeps knocking it out or it falls out so we are forever sticking it back in. Would it be child abuse to duct tape it in?

OP posts:
daisyandbabybootoo · 09/07/2007 12:08

PMSL bumper at the duct tape

go with the flow with the sling...she's a three week old baby who wants her mum close...i don't think you're making a rod for your own back at all....at least with her in the sling you can function on some level. i mean you weren't getting a lot done pinned down on the sofa were you?

i need to go to the supermarket and then to mothercare to get vests (she's grown overnight and her vests are too small...they were fine yesterday) and some more dummies (2 is not enough - i keep losing them) and i need lunch (no food in the house) and its school run time in 3 hours! where does the time go.....

and i haven't started the housework yet......aaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhh

TALLULAHBELLE · 09/07/2007 12:40

Yay - Wee one has finally reached her birth weight -is a whole ounce heavier in fact. Only took 3 weeks & 2 days but boy am I relieved.

daisyandbabybootoo · 09/07/2007 12:42

mine has finally settled so i can eat now!!

how is the feeding going tallulah?

TALLULAHBELLE · 09/07/2007 12:55

Bit better Daisy - been to b/f support couple of times which at least makes me feel I'm going in right direction. Sometimes she feeds for hours, but still screams for more & I need to do formula top ups. Counsellor has advised fennel tea or guiness to boost supply, so am going to the offy today for mega cerry-oot!!!

daisyandbabybootoo · 09/07/2007 13:00

lol tallulah....i skim read that and though the fennel tea and guiness was for the LO!!

I read on here that oats are supposed to be good for boosting supply as well so get that porridge on!

Glad she's doing better and that you are getting decent support. It sounds like it will all come good, and lots of people do formula top ups and it works for them.....i suppose as long as you are not replacing feeds with fomula it should be ok.

Oh bloody hell she's off again....we're having a very bad day today chez daisyboo!

bumperlicious · 09/07/2007 13:11

Tallulah, what a relief for you. Glad things are going better.

Daisy, can the housework wait? It's still early days for you, you should be sitting around with your feet up (ha ha, I know, fat chance!) but like someone said earlier, you need mn for your sanity!

OP posts:
bumperlicious · 09/07/2007 13:20

Ria, I was watching that BF programme last night. Anyone else watch it? Think it might have been a repeat. There was an 8 year old child bfing. I really try not to judge other people's choices, but seriously, this 8 year old seemed really immature, and it was all a bit weird, you had to wonder who was benefiting from the relationship.

Also the classic comment from the mother of this 8 year old was about her husband having a suck too "I think that's normal in breastfeeding households" - is it???! Is my poor DH missing out on something?

Btw, is it normal for my boobs to still hurt from feeding. They aren't cracked or anything but sometimes they just throb, especially at night. I really want to sleep on my side but my boobs get squashed and they hurt!

OP posts:
daisyandbabybootoo · 09/07/2007 13:22

hi bumper...yes the housework can wait....i'm just conscious of the fact that we're starting to resemble the before shots from "how clean is your house?"

but.....there's a limit to what can be done when you are confined to the sofa as you know.....except MN that is

derlor · 09/07/2007 13:23

Text from FOXY**
she just going in for scan and sweep now

i told her to request for sweep to be done with a pineapple

i'll update you as i know any more xx

daisyandbabybootoo · 09/07/2007 13:43

bumper...i saw that when it was on first time...eew eew eew is all i can say. and IMHO when the child ceases to get any nutritional benefit from it, then its a selfish act on the part of the parent. i can't see me going much beyond a year to be honest, but who knows i may feel differently by then.

and dh has no inclination to have a go....nor me of letting him, although he did try some EBM. however, as he has a lifelong hatred of milk since he had some off stuff at infant school....he didn't think much of it!

fingers crossed for foxy!

right off to mothercare for vests and dummies and one of those clips to attach it to her clothes!

hollyandalicewillbedogtanian · 09/07/2007 13:46

I've seen that bfing prog before bumper, but I couldn't stop myself watching it again. Car crash tv I think is an apt description! Dp was nearly sick when the guy said about having his turn! They are a very odd family I think, those girls were obsessed with boobs! Surely that is not normal or healthy!

Hope things are ok in chez daisy? My house is almost at the How Clean is Your House standard, a fact which is not helped by the fact my hoover is busted again! There are bits all over my floor, it is making me !

Oh and bumper my boobs hurt too! They will for a while until your body gets used to producing enough for your baby, but not too much. It will pass!

hollyandalicewillbedogtanian · 09/07/2007 13:47

Daisy, don't buy one of those clips. I've got one you can have, I'll send it to you. It is pink and purple, so I don't think William will get much use from it! Email me your address and I'll pop it in the post.

Jamantha · 09/07/2007 13:58

Didn't see the BF programme, sounds like I missed a treat. DH won't even try tasting a drop of EBM if I get a drop on my finger when removing the pump from the breast after expressing.

Am a bit worried that DD's feeds the past day or so have been shorter than they had been recently. She seems to get full and sleepy quickly and not want any more. And she's feeding slightly more frequently than she was a couple of days ago too. Would not be so bothered except that her poo has lost the grainy texture, which I understand means she's not getting enough hindmilk - which would fit with the more frequent but shorter feeds. I keep trying the techniques of flicking the ear, rubbing the nose, tickling, etc to keep her feeding as long as I can but am getting concerned that she's not getting enough nutritionally - any more hints?

riabutterflew · 09/07/2007 14:01

Yippee! DH has got...

A NEW JOB!!!

Sounds too good to be true, more later.

Hope foxy is ok and the pineapples not too prickly.
