@Since2016. I think I might need to do a little research! I’ve tried to put her down twice now and each time she has screamed the place down. So now have a content happy baby clued to me all afternoon.

sunday38 · 01/04/2019 17:39

We all have days like that bubbly. DC1 had all his naps in someone's arms and needed rocking to sleep for the first 6 months! Luckily once this one is asleep l can put him in the bouncer without him waking but he still needs rocking a lot. Got nothing done this afternoon as he wouldn't settle at all and the toddler woke early from his nap Sad Slings are great although l find it hard on my back already even though I bought a decent sling with plenty of support. I think at this early stage you just have to accept that they want to be held and enjoy the cuddles!

AvoidingMarking · 01/04/2019 19:23

@bubblybrit have a look to see if there is a sling library near you. The people who run them are trained in giving baby wearing advice and will be able to talk through your concerns and check the fit of a sling. Plus you can hire them and test out which ones work for you. I have a stretchy wrap but when DD1 was 6months I needed something more supportive. I borrowed 8 different ones from the library and got an idea of the fit before buying a buckled carrier second had. DD was in it until last summer at 3yo.
Henry will need something earlier though as he's a little chunk!

A big sling fan here! I got really into babywearing with my first (and still had him in a sling when I was 28 weeks pregnant last year). This baby is a velcro baby and we left hospital on day 2 with him in a stretchy wrap. I honestly don’t know how I’d manage without a sling. Today I have bottle fed him, breastfed him (we are still going strong, just about!) and expressed milk all with him in the sling, as well as done a whole load of boring household chores, had a coffee in a local cafe and picked up my son from nursery. I’ve agreed today to be a volunteer at my local sling library. So unsurprisingly I’d definitely recommend a sling @bubblybrit. There are so many to choose from and if it’s a well fitting good one, baby should be extremely safe and secure.

AvoidingMarking · 01/04/2019 22:05

@AmberRose17 I've never mastered feeding in a stretchy. I'm envious of your talents!

@bubblybrit I've never heard of a baby falling out of one!

If you follow the TICKS guidelines baby will be really safe and happy

bubblybrit · 01/04/2019 22:29

Thanks all. Definitely need to spare some time to have a look at various slings online! DH is working away from home for the next few days so may still be in my pjs unwashed and household chores undone by the time he returns lol 😂 he works away quite a bit so don’t really want a repeat performance each time!

lanalawr · 01/04/2019 22:31

While we're on sling chat, has anyone got any tips or good links to show feeding in a sling please? I tried to feed in our close caboo and couldn't work out how to get him anywhere near (I've got smallish boobs if that makes a difference so can't hoik them up). I've also got a beco Gemini that I'm going to try ds in soon to see if he fits. I don't like rucksack straps though so always cross them. I've got a feeling that'll probably make it harder to feed in the beco.

Yakadee · 02/04/2019 01:46

@bubblybrit - I bet you surprise yourself, I'm always amazed at what I manage to get done (It's loads more than my husband!!). X

AmberRose17 · 02/04/2019 01:54

Thanks @avoidingmarking it has mainly been out of desperation as this baby is so fussy especially in the early evenings. It’s the only way to tempt him onto the boob and deal with cluster feeding. Here we are earlier today Hmm.

@lanalawr I used this vid for the stretchy. It’s a wrap not the caboo but I imagine it’s similar m.youtube.com/watch?v=mUuzQVNKMd0.

I have also B’fed in my ring sling which is quite straightforward but obvs you can only feed the side opposite the rings.

I reckon small boobs will help with feeding in the Beco as mine are big so I’d have to have it so low it would practically be round my knees Grin. I have seen a friend do it and you just loosen the waistband and jiggle baby down. I think it might be easier when baby is a bit older though as these Feb boys and girls are prob a bit floppy!

Thanks @AmberRose17 I'll have a look. Lovely baby wearing moment.

Yakadee · 02/04/2019 05:08

Anyone else feel like their little one seems to always have a cold? She's really struggling to sleep tonight as she's just so phlegmy! She's supposed to have her jabs tomorrow too 😩

Lookingforadvice123 · 02/04/2019 06:31

Yakadee yes DS2 has been so noisy tonight, 2-2:30am he sounded like his nose was so congested. He hadn't even cried for his feed but DH just took him for his bottle at 2:30am as he was being so loud.

And just now from 5am he's been the same as well as his usual goat noises on and off.

I'm going to try nasal saline tonight. He has been like it on other nights but I'm wondering if napping in his pram in the hallway for two hours right next to a dehumidifier yesterday made it worse...

Yakadee · 02/04/2019 07:58

@Lookingforadvice123 - it's awful isn't it! She seems happy enough in herself I'm just fed up it for her, poor love! X

Notquiteagandt · 02/04/2019 09:51

So this week is half term. So most of the classes and groups we go to arent running. Anywhere remotely fun is going to be overrun and super busy. Dreadding it to be honnest. Feeling cabin fever.

Baby M since her needles has barely slept and is like a newborn constantly feeding again. Well I think it is mainly for comfort.

I feel like I am getting nothing done and it is stressing me out. It kills me been stuck in the house and not feeling productive. Deffo part of motherhood im struggling most with.

Since2016 · 02/04/2019 11:21

Thanks for the feeding in sling tips - I wear mine constantly and have to take her out each time! I’ve also got a stretchy wrap.

AmberRose17 · 02/04/2019 16:24

@since2016 the only annoying thing I would say about feeding in the sling (apart from the inevitable nappy action that it provokes Grin) is that it’s much easier if you wear a proper BF top rather than the “one up one down” approach where you have a BF best under a normal top. Pulling up a loose top when you have a baby in a stretchy wrap is a bit of a fiddle!

detachablehoof · 02/04/2019 22:19

I bought a stretchy wrap sling but don't like it as baby's head doesn't seem to be supported. I probably should take the time to watch some YouTube vids on how to do it properly and I might get on better with it.

My little girl is so snuffly sometimes she struggles to drink her bottle. I wasn't worried about it but asked HV today what I could do and she said she's probably got a cold or an allergy 🤔 I don't think it's a cold as she's always been snuffly but now I'm worried about it being an allergy. Maybe that's why she has dry skin on her face and scalp?

AvoidingMarking · 03/04/2019 02:15

@detachablehoof you can turn baby's head to the side and tuck it in to one of the arm bits. A good way of making sure their airway is clear and they are high enough too.
Also, you can roll up a muslin to make a bit of a cushion for them- plus always handy!

Once they get better head control it is easier though!

AvoidingMarking · 03/04/2019 02:28

This lady does both the end, though I don't like the way she twists the wrap!

Yakadee · 03/04/2019 06:46

Any mums with other children, are you finding them harder?

My son used to be a great sleeper (7-6) however recently, he's waking in the night a lot and wanting me. I'm really hoping it's a phase (as had yet another bad nights sleep) but wondered if it could be because baby is here? (He's just turned 3) x

Lulabell1 · 03/04/2019 07:30

Isit me or does this not sound ok...
We are under hospital checkups unfil june once a month because baby D was so prem and then had the meningitis. We went for one last week and i mentioned she only poos every 7-10 days. To be fair this is the second time I mentioned it and Dr said BF babies do not poo as often as they get all thr goodness they need and dont need to get rid of much? Shes not in pain and her stools are soft as soon as she goes.
Anyway more to the point this time she prescribed lactose and i have been using it 4 days now and still nothing?

Also how often do your bf babies go?

Notquiteagandt · 03/04/2019 09:10

@Lulabell1 at least 3-4x a day sometimes upto 10x a day. She goes after most feeds. But my little poo machine is the exception I think. But the dr said to me thats obvs her routine as always been like that. Anything out the ordinary is a cause for concern. Not the actual ammount as such. Unsure if thats still case the other way around.

@detachablehoof my little girls often snuffly from reflux. I swear by snuffle babe drops, steamy bath and an aspirator. She struggles to feed when its bad too as cant breath through nose.

Lulabell1 · 03/04/2019 10:07

@notquiteagandt is your LO bf or ff thats crazy! She did that for the first 6 weeks of her life then since then been hardly ever

mummymummymummummum · 03/04/2019 11:00

@Yakadee For a few weeks my older child (2 years 8 months) seemed to wake up more. Or rather she called for us more during the night. However, I was on my own with the children this last weekend so had a chat with her; daddy had been getting up to her so I explained that I couldn't if I was feeding the baby. She hasn't called out in 4 nights! Oh, and yesterday we said bye bye to dummy with no tears. 😊

Yakadee · 03/04/2019 13:22

@mummymummymummummum - he's been on and off, some nights and not others but last night he was awake for over 2 hours? He's at nursery today so hoping he'll be tired out and sleep all night.

Emma has her jabs this aft so expecting another bad night really. 😩

I joined slimming world today and went to a mum and baby gym class which was actually really good. I've never been to one before but it was really relaxed but a work out at the same time. X
