Hi everyone! Three words: post birth poo 😱😱

Sorry but ouch!!!

Cloud9889 · 14/02/2019 18:42

Hi, just marking place hope that’s ok. I have DC3, a boy on 1st Feb (his due date) after a cat 1 emergency section for cord prolapse (long story) I was in already being induced because of gestational diabetes. Struggling a bit at the moment but specially at night. DC2 got chicken pox whilst I was in hospital after the birth and now DC1 has got it. Was on the phone this morning as I am worried about DC3 him being so young and exposed to the pox they say if his temp goes above 37.5 take him to hospital as he may need medication (for chicken pox I think). Anyway today he’s been a bit hot his max temp I recorded was 37.4 but the themometer was only 37.4 once usually it’s around 36.9-37.1 but I’m still worried !! I don’t really want to go in to hospital but I feel bad almost not going in case I am failing him... it’s so hard!

Cloud9889 · 14/02/2019 18:43

He is breastfed and feeding ok but does seem a bit different to normal - I get teal anxiety about all my children’s health especially when newborn :(

Cloud9889 · 14/02/2019 18:45

Also did anyone else have a section? My god I was not expecting the slow recovery. I was almost back to normal at this point with my first two vaginal births but I stil have a Long way to go this time. The first few days was awful getting in and out of bed and also getting really numb bum which was painful from sitting down too long I think

Yakadee · 14/02/2019 18:53

@Cloud9889 - I did but actually cannot believe how much of a breeze this time has been compared to my first (natural). I'm 16 days pp now and I feel great. Still a bit tender but can carry on pretty much as normal. There was a really bad day (I think day 3) where I was really sore but been better and better since then x

Cloud9889 · 14/02/2019 19:53

@yakadee to be fair I do feel a lot better now than I did for the first week. I found using a litter picker type thing helped me feel better as I could pick things up with it that I couldn’t reach

Yakadee · 14/02/2019 20:17

@Cloud9889 - I nearly got one of those but by the time I thought of it I was able go pick stuff up lol x

Celebelly · 14/02/2019 20:52

I had an emergency section and recovery hasn't been too bad, although it was very frustrating the first few days to struggle getting out of bed to get my baby when DP wasn't there (in hindsight I should have called for midwives but i didn't want to be a pain!).

I think I'm overdoing it a bit since we've been home so I need to take it easy.

Mine was planned - it must make a difference. X

AmberRose17 · 14/02/2019 21:34

HI everyone. We got home at about 2pm today and it felt amazing. I had a nap and a proper shower and this eve have had a takeaway and glass of wine. Almost feeling human. Chunky monkey is doing very well and I’m topping up with formula from the outset due to awful and traumatic experience of (trying to) EBF last time, as well as his size. It feels good to be able to give myself a break.

But as this was a VBAC I’ve not had experience of post birth aches and pains, including 2nd degree tears and general muscle aches from pushing a 9.8lb baby out. Any tips? I find the combination of needing to wear pads and having stiches down there quite hard to cope with as I’m worried it will get infected!

AmberRose17 · 14/02/2019 21:38

Also... how are you dressing your newbies for bed? Last time I religiously followed Gro Bag guidance on temperatures but I don’t have the thermometer and more and it’s a different time of year. Is a babygrow and thin blanket enough?

Surprisedmom · 14/02/2019 21:55

Hi everyone, i’m joining you all as my darling boy arrived yesterday morning. I’m coping alright after the emergency c-section as they are giving me liquid morphene which is amazing for the pain. Swollen ankles but i’ve been walking around the ward in circles to try to reduce them and that’s helped quite a lot.
My little boy is out of intensive care now, but still on neonatal. 🤞 he’ll be with me tomorrow morning though.

Yakadee · 14/02/2019 21:56

@AmberRose17 - I used to soak in a bath with lavender oil and actually put a few drops on the pad I was wearing. It felt quite soothing. I did however get an infection so maybe I'm not the best person to give advice! (Although I'm told it was nothing I did and can happen - Hopefully it won't though for you).

Re baby and sleeping at night, Baby has vest, baby grow, little hat and then cellular blanket and a little moses basket blanket (only thin). We have a thermostat so can't go below 19 without it clicking on! Xx

Notquiteagandt · 14/02/2019 22:07

For bed my baby has a vest baby grow and a cosy gro snug or swaddled in a cellular blanket. Its quite a warm room though at 19 degrees. So dont feel need to layer up.

When I was in hospital the room was about 16 or 17 degrees and she wore the same.

Hear you ladies on emergancy c sections. I was pain free in hospital as resting up. Been sat still. But since been home and mobile. Owch!!! I have been cut in a T shape. So unsure if that makes a differance.

The surgeon who operated on me said recovery for emergancy c sections are longer as they are alot quicker and forceful. As well as been thrown onto the bed and being under general makes a differance.

So makes sense.

They have also stitched me up too tight. As they apparently as protocall fold the fat twice and stitch it down. But I had no fat layer so its swollen up and given me a fatty lump over my scar wound which rubs against it and hurts.

I saw 2 diff gyno surgeons before discharge who assured me once stitches went it would disapear. But cant help but worry.

Even if its a v.v.v. small price to pay for mine and my babies life.

I managed to loose a tooth as well during surgery 😂 but considering they got me from labour bed pressing emergancy alarm to delivery of baby in under 5 mins they can be more than forgiven.

Leafy2018 · 15/02/2019 00:39

Anyone up and feeding? Or wanting to inflict pain on their husband. I know I'm being unfair but I need to vent - he had an upset tummy yesterday and I have done everything since then, including a night and now this one by myself. He's completely better and sleeping like a baby next to me and couldn't even be bothered to wake up and offer me some moral support with the changing before I fed. I feel dangerously tired as barely slept last night and no sleep today - trying not to fall asleep during feed so writing this is a good distraction. Urgh.... just want 1.5 hours sleep - honestly that would be bliss!

bubblybrit · 15/02/2019 01:34

So pleased to be able to join this group eventually after Anna arrived on the 12th weighing 6lb 14oz! X

bethandfreyaruby · 15/02/2019 01:46

Hi all.
I'm looking for a bit of comfort and reassurance as I'm sure plenty of you are going through the same thing.
Had DS on 10th Feb through emergency c-section. Doing well so far as DP is being amazing at helping out with DS and 2year old DD.

I was doing really well with breast feeding the first two days in hospital- since being home fallen apart. We have been feeding DS with formula as milk as only just come in today and with the pain and tiredness I couldn't take the hour plus it was taking me to breastfeed. I am torn over this decision as I feel I am letting him down not BF. I am thinking of starting to express in the morning and see if I feel better towards that decision.
I suppose I'm just ranting but anyone on here make the decision to exclusively formula feed from the start? Anyone deciding to use formula as a second option this early on?

Thank you in advance Thanks

maxiflump1 · 15/02/2019 03:19

@bethandfreyaruby don't feel guilty. I am doing a combination of formula and expressing. I wrote a long post yesterday on this thread about feeding. I nearly made myself ill with guilt over not being about to feed my first DS but have a muck more relaxed core this time around as am determined to enjoy this baby! Thanks to you x

Yakadee · 15/02/2019 03:31

Feeding can be so tough. I couldn't bf my son and decided not to try this time because of how it felt back then. I admire you girls for sticking with it but honestly, don't beat yourselves up!

I'm up too (hopefully not for long) but everyone is asleep but me lol. X

Cloud9889 · 15/02/2019 03:39

I’m up feeding too - trying not to fall asleep!

bethandfreyaruby · 15/02/2019 04:01

Maxiflump1- I had only read it after I had posted my message. I was a bit in a ranting mode and didn't take in everything that had been said!

I fully understand everything you posted, as I feel I really struggled with my MH too with my DD because of guilt over feeding. I had many crying moments over it which looking back made those first few weeks so incredibly difficult. I'm determined to enjoy the time my DP has off work with my little family and not have it tarnished by guilt!

I admire you for expressing and keeping up with it. My midwife is coming tomorrow so I am getting myself wound up about that and what she will say I think.

I hope you all get to go back to sleep soon and your LO's settle for you!

Now have a hiccuping baby and my son was randomly wet so full change required! Nice and wide awake now! X

Celebelly · 15/02/2019 07:33

Feeding is tough. I don't think I realised or understood when people said that till now. We have a lactation consultant coming out on Tuesday to help us so I'm hoping we can make some progress as she still won't latch on, and pumping every three hours is really time-consuming. I've rented a hospital grade double pump which should arrive over weekend so that will help, but it's a horrible feeling when your baby is desperate to feed from you but just can't do it and gets so upset and frustrated SadI'm trying not to stress though and enjoy this time as other than feeding times, she's a delightful happy baby and she's starting to have longer awake periods now. But it's bloody tough and we are all superstars however we feed our babies!

Big hugs to all of you struggling with feeding BrewThanks

I have a really windy baby who just wouldn't settle all night. I've tried all the burping techniques and using infacol but he's still full of wind. Anyone know of any magic tricks to help bring up wind?!?!
