Last night was the first night putting DS2 to bed on my own as DH was out, and he was so so good. Cluster fed on and off but less than normal, fed him in bed and put him down at about 9:45pm fully expecting him to stir again, but he slept well over 3 hours until gone 1am without a peep! DH then gave him his nightly bottle of formula and he slept for over another 3 hours again, he's just stirred so am bf'ing him now.

You've all inspired me to express so going to do it in the morning in the hope I get a decent amount. Really I should express in the night when DH gives the bottle as my boobs are full to bursting! But the whole point of that bottle is that I get to sleep through it so it would be pointless...

Celebelly · 16/03/2019 05:58

@lanalawr About 15-20 mins. I have a double pump so makes things a bit more efficient!

Hi all just checking in. Sorry to hear re those still having a tough time. We’re finally over the hump I think, she’s going for between 2-3 hours at night and starting to settle better in her side cot. Hot water bottle, more blankets and longer burping but progress!

The juggle is real though - I’m a little anxious about how I’ll manage bed time with two once she’s out of the newborn stage - for now I’m managing solo bedtimes quite easily with two.

Expressing wise - I get about 150ml per boob. I’m growing a monster 😂 takes about 15 mins. She’ll easily take most of that in a bottle then too 😳

I’m going to start exercising again next week, although my tummy is a little tender still. V conscious of my tummy though although the rest of me looks more normal. Visit into work on Monday so may do some shopping for some ‘transition’ jeans in the interim - I’m loathe to but needs must!

Anyone else have a clingy #1? She said to me earlier - no more baby in mummy’s tummy - I can sit on your lap now. I forget she’s still such a baby really (just 3) even though she seems so big now in comparison. Just hard trying to balance them and she’s just so sweet - not remotely jealous - I have hideous guilt!

lanalawr · 16/03/2019 12:37

That really is good @Celebelly (or maybe mine just isn't). I'm getting 30-40ml from a double pump, although that is after I've just fed ds. I seem to remember getting more with dd but I wasn't bf her, just expressing.

I'm with you on the guilt @Since2016. My 2.5yo is so lovely to her baby brother but I think I expect too much of her sometimes. We've also had to spend a lot of time waiting for people to come to the house to weigh ds and things do haven't got out as much. I also dragged her to bf clinic yesterday when she was knackered and wanted to sleep. She tried to fall asleep on their chairs - Major Mum guilt.

Celebelly · 16/03/2019 13:46

@lanalawr That's a good amount to get after a feed! You've obviously got good supply!

Hi all, it’s so strange managing to be active for a few days on here and then sinking under the waves again for days on end!

We are at 5 weeks + 2 days today. We were having a few good days of longer sleeps and then last night she woke up every 1.5 - 2 hours rather than every 3-3.5hrs. She was very good in feeding and settling but it takes me so long to get back to sleep I barely got 30 minutes each time. Then in the evening and this morning she’s been very awake and fussy so we are both absolutely wiped. We thought we’d check her weight roughly on our scales and she’s bang on the line so at least we aren’t somehow overfeeding her and she does need that extra food! I get really worried we are feeding her too much so it makes me feel a bit

On the plus side I thought I was getting sick but it hasn’t turned into anything today.

Will try and catch up with the thread!

Lookingforadvice123 · 16/03/2019 14:28

lanalawr I'm getting about the same per boob, soon after a feed. I'm going to give it a try in the night when DH gives DS2 his formula to see how much I get, annoying as I would usually sleep through it but I think it'll be worth it to see how much I get and it'll only be 10 mins.

Lookingforadvice123 · 16/03/2019 14:29

Silly question but if I express then he wants a feed really soon after, will there not be much milk for him?

mummymummymummummum · 16/03/2019 14:45

I actually really enjoyed exclusively pumping for my eldest! It was so satisfying watching the quantity pumped increase every day. I was pumping whilst she was tube fed in NICU. It got to the point where my tray in the breast milk fridge was the fullest every day! #proud I am thankful I only had to do a few weeks though. Picture is the surplus after about 2 weeks! She'd been having milk through a tube for about one of those weeks.

Wow look at that stash @mummymummymummummum ! I'm sorry your eldest was in NICU though. I can't imagine how hard that must have been.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 16/03/2019 17:18

I work in oz rather than ml... but if I express every four hours (was told I should aim for every two hours to establish supply... but I fail!), with about 20 minutes on each side I get about 8-9oz in total.

I use a Tommee Tippee pump.

AvoidingMarking · 16/03/2019 23:14

@Lookingforadvice123 Your body makes milk as the baby is feeding so baby will still have enough. I was always told to think of breasts as rivers not lakes when it comes to feeding. Baby may need to work a bit harder to get milk out as the foremilk is usually faster to come out.

I saw this picture on a Facebook group I'm on for breast feeding support. I thought some of you who are pumping might find it useful to compare amounts.

Anyone else's baby decide that from about 4.30, sleep is for the weak and takes hours to settle?
DS does a couple of hours sleep at a time then settles but hit this time and he refuses to go back down. He's got a really bad cough, which seems to be keeping him up and just sounds horrendous! O

babyp160 · 17/03/2019 07:05

@AvoidingMarking it makes sense they have to work harder as DS growls at a certain point of his feed like he is moaning it's hard haha

DeliberatelyGinger · 17/03/2019 07:20

@bethfreyaisaac Yes! We were up from 2:50am feeding, followed by happy change followed by feeding for three hours! Sorry to hear your little one is unwell.

maxiflump1 · 17/03/2019 07:24

@bethfreyaisaac we have a similar issue here. If he wakes before about 3.30 I can generally get him to settle back down after a feed. After about 3.30 he seems to get quite agitated and very difficult to settle again.

bethfreyaisaac · 17/03/2019 09:50

It's hard work isn't it! Glad I'm not the only one though! It always takes us about half an hour to settle him back down but he won't go down at all. Got up at 5.45 giving in and guess who slept all snuggly and warm on my chest!!

Fingers crossed they get through it for us all soon!

lanalawr · 17/03/2019 10:55

@bethfreyaisaac same here but from about 01:30/02:00. If I can get him down after this time it's usually only for half an hour at a time. He'll have a good sleep until 02:00 though.

DeliberatelyGinger · 17/03/2019 21:24

I'm trying for an early night. Been trying since half seven mind.

bubblybrit · 17/03/2019 21:52

@DeliberatelyGinger. I am in the same position as you. She was sleeping in my arms on the sofa so thought I’d come to bed and get some sleep before the next feed. Turned out the next feed was exactly 5 minutes after I walked up the stairs!

bethfreyaisaac · 17/03/2019 21:58

Hope you all have a good night!

DD who's 2 has gone to sleep relatively easy for once, and DS who's 5 weeks today is in his Moses basket asleep- let's hope he stays there for a couple of hours!!

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 18/03/2019 12:04

Soooo... give me your top tips for getting baby shit stains out of your duvet please?

It’s currently in my bath, being spot treated with a mix of liquid detergent and stain remover, which has been worked in with hot water and a toothbrush.. I’ve just left it to soak.

If this doesn’t work, what else should I try? New duvet? 🙈

Notquiteagandt · 18/03/2019 12:06

@NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking I use violets on clothes. Unsure about duvets if wreck the feathers but guess worth a shot.

Celebelly · 18/03/2019 12:09

Ooh yes, we got baby poo on rug (don't ask), have washed it 3 times and still a little chicken korma coloured stain!
