@leafy2018 my little one was 4 weeks on Thursday and he also pokes his tongue out on and off too. I don’t feel like it’s anurhibg to worry about.

@NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking yay congratulations x

Notquiteagandt · 03/03/2019 18:24

Yes sticking tounge out is totally normal. My little girl is 4 weeks. She has the last few days discovered that she can pull tounges back when you pull tounges at her. Been a great source of amusement and playing this weekend. Starting to see what looks like start of smiles too. So thinking in a week or so shell be smiling. Amaizes me how quick they come on and develop. Think the sticking tounge out is her discovering her mouth and what it can do. As shes been doing it alot.

As for the clicky latch have they been checked for tounge tie? My little girl clicks when shes sleepy and not concentrating properly on latching. She has a mild tounge tie though. Which ive decided against snipping as 3 diff lactation consultants have said its not neccessary. As she can still latch well. But the clicking is a sign of it apparently.

Hard isnt it when everythings so new and you dont know whats what. Im trying so hard not to google anything as always some horror story out there to terrorfy me.

@Leafy2018

Leafy2018 · 03/03/2019 21:40

Thanks both. @Notquiteagandt she has been checked for tongue tie yes. One midwife said she didn't and a breast feeding councillor said she had a short tongue and possible posterior tongue tie. She does have a small mouth - maybe it will improve as she grows. Going to investigate cranial osteopathy (I'm desperate). I've heard good things about someone in our town.

Baby has spent the evening crying and fighting the boob. Does anyone else have this? She wants to feed but keeps pulling away and screaming/choking and then trying to go back on - and repeat! Anyone else?

Lookingforadvice123 · 03/03/2019 21:48

Thanks for your messages all. DS2 is much brighter now, his course of antibiotics is due to finish middle of Monday night (I think) so fingers crossed we will be home Tuesday morning. It's horrible being in hospital and having DS1 at home. I wish I could be in 2 places at once.

Celebelly · 03/03/2019 21:58

@Leafy2018 My baby has a very small and tight mouth too, which has made latching difficult for her. She also has a posterior tongue tie. We've had some good progress by seeing a chiropractor - she's now able to open up much wider, so we are now working on practicing latching on as she's had a few weeks of cup/bottle feeding expressed milk so has got a bit lazy and gets a bit frustrated when milk doesn't flow instantly.

That's so interesting @Celebelly . Thanks for sharing your experience. May I ask what the chiropractor did and how quickly did it help? I can't go on having evenings like this - it's awful - I feel as though I'm unable to help her. I really want to enjoy breastfeeding and the closeness I felt with my other two dds but right now it's feeling like quite a struggle.

AvoidingMarking · 03/03/2019 22:28

@Leafy2018 how old is your baby? What you've described can be a sign of an incoming growth spurt and could be a way of her upping your supply. Normally about 3-4 weeks is the first one

Leafy2018 · 03/03/2019 22:34

@AvoidingMarking she is 4 weeks old. This has been going on for a couple of weeks on and off. She is dreadfully upset when it happens - gets very agitated and distressed.

Celebelly · 03/03/2019 22:34

We've had three sessions and noticed a big difference after sessions two and three. He did some adjustments to her head and neck as she was a bit uncomfortable, either from her position in the womb or from delivery, and it was making her reluctant to do the 'scoop' motion for latching on. He also did some oral exercises and showed us how to do them at home, things like stretching her mouth a little and getting her tongue moving a bit more. It's all very gentle and gradual and she's not unhappy while it's going on.

Her general demeanour is a lot less rigid now - she was quite stiff before, to the extent where she could actually hold her head up herself for a long period of time. Now she's a lot more relaxed and loose in general, and able to tip her head back better to get latched on.

AvoidingMarking · 03/03/2019 22:39

@Celebelly I've thought about having some sessions for my son who has a really shallow latch and seems as though his neck is stiff. Will investigate a local one!

Leafy2018 · 03/03/2019 22:39

Thank you @AvoidingMarking - will read. It now.

Leafy2018 · 03/03/2019 23:07

Sorry @Celebelly I didn't see your reply. That's really useful, thank you. It's so strange reading about your baby holding her head up - that's exactly what ours does! Everyone comments on how strong her neck is. I'm definitely going to sort something out this week - I'm encouraged by your experience.

Susannach · 04/03/2019 01:01

Woohoo @NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking! Congratulations!

Yakadee · 04/03/2019 04:54

@NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking - congratulations! Xx

I haven't been to sleep yet tonight. DD is full of phlegm! It's all I can hear and she's struggling with it bless her. Plus, my son is in my bed, not sure what was wrong but we've had strong winds here and he was complaining about a dinosaur so wonder if the wind caused him to have a bad dream?

Shame I'll be up in a few hours anyway! Yawn. X

mummymummymummummum · 04/03/2019 13:36

I don't think I've 'officially' joined this thread yet!

Anya was born last Monday via unplanned caesarean. I'm devastated not to have achieved a VBAC, but delighted to have Anya here safely.

We were discharged Tuesday, but readmitted on Wednesday as Anya needed treatment for jaundice. So a long few days in hospital for us both before being discharged again on Saturday. Tough on my eldest to not have me at home as well.

I got another day after discharge visit on Sunday. I asked for a little help with Anya's latch. She'd brought up quite a bit of blood on Saturday and just wanted reassurance that everything was ok. I didn't get that reassurance ☹️ Instead I've got a referral to tongue tie clinic (which I had never considered). I'm also pumping after feeds to ensure she gets the thicker milk at the end of a feed. I am confused though. If she's struggling to feed then why did she only lose 110g by day 5? That's less than 4%.

Oh, and since we've got home, Anya has not slept a wink during the night. She goes down at 6am! Yesterday we had lots (probably too many) of visitors. My Dad and sister wanted to come, but both work so it had to be a weekend day. So no daytime nap for me. I did the whole day on two hours sleep, and cried lots in the afternoon 😢 I know sleeping in the day and not at night is completely normal (and actually what she did when I was pregnant). But argh! My eldest was sleeping through when she came home from hospital at 3 weeks old!

Squashbanana1 · 04/03/2019 17:18

@mummymummymummummum similar situation here with the cluster feeding at nighttime! My little one fed constantly from 12 - 5am!! Very tiring 😴 so you have my sympathy!

During the day he sleeps beautifully and feeds 2-3 hourly 🤔 any tips anyone else?

mummymummymummummum · 04/03/2019 17:23

@Squashbanana1 Anya slept for 5 hours this morning from 6am! I should be grateful she can do it!

What do you do during the night? I've been staying in our bedroom, but obviously that disturbs my husband (and older daughter, she's right next door). I was wondering if I would be better off hanging out downstairs instead.

AmberRose17 · 04/03/2019 17:45

Ahh congratulations @mummymummymummummum. What a lovely name. Is there a Scandi influence in your family? My boys both have scandi influences names as Dad is half Swedish. Sorry you didn’t get the VBAC but well done for trying!!

Re tongue tie if you can afford it get it snipped privately. I had baby's done on Friday and it has improved his feeding a lot. Didn’t stop him feeding constantly from 1-4am yesterday though so I feel the pain of those of you with similarly hungry babies.

Three weeks old on Weds and, dare I say it, I think I might be feeling human again.

Yakadee · 04/03/2019 18:11

Hi everyone. Congratulations @mummymummymummummum!

Random but noticed what feels like a little spot but looks like a bruise on baby Emma's back? I haven't noticed it before but noticed it today when I gave her a bath? Anyone know what it could be? Could it just be a spot? X

1stTimeTina · 04/03/2019 18:39

Congratulations @mummymummymummummum !! Lovely name 😊
I've just been for a little walk with the pushchair and OUCH .... when will my vagina feel normal again 😩

Lulabell1 · 04/03/2019 20:49

@1sttimetina
With baby 1 i had stitches and it took me a good 4 weeks for it to feel normal but this time it felt fine after 5days and no stitches!

Im experiencing a lot of discharge for the last week? I have a bath or shower and by and hour or 2 i have it again? Its clear and it doesnt smell so im just wondering what itis and if i need to call docs hmmm

Squashbanana1 · 05/03/2019 00:51

@mummymummymummummum I've set myself up in the living room with the tv on mute and subtitles. Fingers crossed for a better night!

mummymummymummummum · 05/03/2019 01:01

@Squashbanana1 Anya was asleep at 9:30pm so I optimistically took her upstairs. She's been awake 3 hours now... potentially another 5 hours to go 😫💤

@AmberRose17 no real Scandi influences here.
