good morning, do i get a prize for being first on the thread in a morning

feeling good today, got a call from dh last night which was nice. good job i'm in a good mood going to the clinic to get lo weighed for the first time in a month, i decided only to go monthly from now on as the lovely hv was driving me mad nagging me about his weight. he's a healthy little lump though and i think i'll be in for a shock as he really seems to have filled out over the last few weeks.

mrs gp - thx mrs gp i'll try to feed it to brandon without throwing up!

mrsc - it's only fruit i loath, love all veg esp carrots

hope you are both feeling less mardy this morning i find a couple of glasses of wine on a night sorts that right out, although according to gmtv that may be damaging my health.....aren't i allowed any fun! did anyone else see that yesterday morning they had the woman that runs netmums on talking about mums drinking too much

JodieG1 · 03/07/2007 08:05

Thanks all, hoping they won't get it again before the end of term. Such a pita.

I hate bananas now, used to eat them as a kid but the texture just makes me gag now. I love grapes, apples and kiwi fruit and cherries are quite nice too, I actually really like tinned peaches but they're not so healthy in syrup lol. The dc's eat bananas, grapes, cherries (ds1 does), apples, melon and others too plus veg. I always cook brocolli and they love that, also carrots, sweetcorn and cauliflower. They're what I usually cook (steamed always) but parsnip is nice too, I sometimes bake them in a parmesan/flour mix and they're gorgeous. I love white cabbage and they eat it now and again too. They'll eat veg soup with whatever is put in. I think they're quite good with fruit and veg, plus cucumbers and they love beetroot (as do I) which is quite a strong taste and gherkins.

loopyjules - netmums is sponsored by Nestle and there is the worst bf-ing advice ever on there. i occasionally go on to start a fight or to correct someone else's appalling advice!!

btw - did y'all know it's Boycott Nestle week? if you don't feel you can boycott Nestle all the time (and it is hard) then just boycott them this week, it might make all the difference, and you can eat Smarties next week!

MrsGolfPro · 03/07/2007 09:06

Which companies are linked to Nestle UD?/ I know there are rather a lot.

theUrbanDryad · 03/07/2007 09:19

oh blimey, there are loads - Jodie put up a list on one of the other threads. could you put it up again Jodie please?

JodieG1 · 03/07/2007 09:22

www.babymilkaction.org/pages/products.html there you go, should be all listed there. We boycott nestle too, definitely worth trying imo.

Morning - well the withdrawing of aspartime (however you spell it) made a huge difference to ellie yestersay, my Mum said she was much calmer and not going from 0 to full blown tantrum in 10 seconds, LTH let me know it was in some yoghurts and the ones we have in the fridge have it in so we'll be off to Morrisons after preschool to buy some different ones.

Didnt manage to post last night as got caught up sorting bags/washing etc forgotton how manic it is the days I work we ended up with fish and chips for tea

Hattie having a snooze so I have 45 minutes till we need to leave to get Ellie so may waste it on here or may get on and do something

Dragonhart · 03/07/2007 11:35

Your theory stands up in our house Carrot. We eat all fruit and veg (just spent the last few mins trying to think of one I dont like and cant!) and Luke eats almost anything put on his plate. Just doesnt eat pinapple or lettuce

A friend of mine only eats carrot and peas and doesnt like fruit except friut juice and her son is the same. She doesnt cook it for him though. We went for a carvery with them and he onlty ate yorkshire pud and meat, but she only put that and potatoes on his plate so it is not surprising really that thats all he ate.

Hope you are not gagging too much with the banana loopy!

I really struggle to get fresh fruit and veg for us on our food budget though. Any tips gratefully received! Fruit seems so expensive. I often buy one sort for LUke and another cheaper sort for us, like with yoghurt as Yeo vally is pretty pricy.

EAH what days do you work now?

Dragonhart · 03/07/2007 11:36

Oh and EAH it is in some crisps too. Definatly in Prawn cocktail and afew more I think.

Dragonhart · 03/07/2007 11:38

obviously I realise that yoghurt is not a fruit Must read my posts before clicking!

theUrbanDryad · 03/07/2007 11:38

well Zac tried his first yoghurt today (Yeo Valley as suggested, bugger me they are so expensive, i feel your pain DH! Petit Filous are BOGOF in Tescos atm too ) i did try to spoon feed him it, but he grabbed the spoon off me and fed himself! pictures on profile (i am the baby paparazzi!!)

Dragonhart · 03/07/2007 11:45

Very funny Urban- tips on yeo vally are to buy the massive packs (we get the 1 lt packs) and make sure the date is long (pick one from the back as they hide them behind the short dates as with milk).

JodieG1 · 03/07/2007 11:47

Love the pics UD

DH - a lot of the frozen veg are just as good as fresh. I just buy fresh mainly and steam them, what I buy does go a long way though and I get the meat from the butchers usually. Steaming veg makes them taste so much better. I think a farmer's market would be cheaper possibly than the supermarket and usually fresher so maybe you could find one near you?

The yeo valley ones are more expensive but the tubs are bigger so really they're not too bad. If you think how small the petis filous ones are.

EAH - wow that's an big difference, it's so worth avoiding aspartame imo.

My week is getting worse, ds1 had been sick so no pre-school and he's currently lying in bed Hope it doesn't last too long poor thing.

Dragonhart · 03/07/2007 11:57

at ds being poorly Jodie. How is dd now?

Thanks for the suggestions, already buy frozen veg and also make things like pasta sauces/casseroles/lasagne/macaroni cheese in big batches which really does save money and also makes my life alot easier

Its the fruit that is so expencive. Luke, DH and me eat so much it means buying 21 bananas a week and the same with things like apples. Also keeping Luke's addiction to strawberries feed is quite expencive

I have tried buying veg in the market and it is cheaper, but they never seem to have british produce. Been looking for one of those boxes where they deliver local veg to your door. Anyone tried them?

vinorouge · 03/07/2007 12:04

Lizz - Ellen didn't like carrot at first either. She's quite happy to eat it now if its mixed with some milk and rice but she has all other veg 'neat' IYKWIM.

JodieG1 · 03/07/2007 12:10

DH - my parents tried the boxes and whilst they said it tasted lovely there wasn't a huge choice over what you got and how much of it. Too many onions and not enough potatoes! Could you try a farm shop maybe? Would that work out cheaper? Buy big packs of things like bananas should help too. My ds1 loves strawberries, we went picking some the other week and he ate about 2 large punnets in a week lol.

Dd seems fine thanks, she has her sports day tomorrow so we're hoping for no rain or it gets put off until Thursday.

Can I just say that I made some of these babyledweaning.blogware.com/blog/_archives/2007/5/14/2949593.html with cheese in and are delicious. I plan to add some veg for next time too. They are very moorish. Supposed to be for baby but nice for me too hehe.

2Happy · 03/07/2007 12:41

Can't think of a veg you dislike, DH? D'you mean you're one of those weirdo freaks who likes SPROUTS??!!!! Bleeeeuuuurrghh!

ds1 will eat most things (also has a passion for srawberries) but won't eat broccoli, dunno why since dh and I like it. And Jodie - have you tried the veggie nuggets off that site? So tasty I've had people ask for the recipe which is when I have to confess it's off a BLW website and they're meant for kids

2happy I haven't tried those yet but have had my eye on them. Will definitely try them.

LadyTophamHatt · 03/07/2007 13:18

brussels are my favourite veg.....

2Happy · 03/07/2007 13:20

tellmeyou'rejokingtellmeyou'rejoking

LadyTophamHatt · 03/07/2007 14:08

nope, they have to be frozen ones through. Don't like fresh ones.

and they have to be cooked to within a millimeter of their lives....

Mmmm lovely.

MrsGolfPro · 03/07/2007 14:21

Can I join in the veg debate?? Loving everything except BRUSSELS (LTH gross!), mange tout and carrots (sorry MrsC - like you tho )....erm I think that is about it actually.

J is very good with his veg and eats pretty much anything and everything I give him.

Bought him some Muller Little Stars yoghurts yesterday as sorry, but the Yeo Valley ones are just way too expensive. The ingredients look reasonable and he loves them. I also bought some Heinz Biscotti for him as a treat which he really likes. I tried making some of my own rusks DH but he really didn't like them and wouldn't eat them

Went to town this morning and found a fab shop called Mackays which I have never been in before cos it looks a bit cheapy but it was lovely and the kids clothes were half price!!!! Bought J an outfit for his mate's christening.
