CaptainDippy · 24/06/2007 20:57

I know they don't allow you to advertise children; but it doesn't say anything about babies or toddlers!

Best go now as DH needs to use 'pooter ....

Sexonknackeredlegs · 24/06/2007 21:07

Hi loves.

Glad Matthew had a good time Ellie.

Ooogs, lovely to see you petal.

WCL, I can't remember what age your dd will be either. We bought B a bike for her bday (4). Something she loved was a Barbie laptop computer. It has lots of educational games on it, like counting, word matching etc. It was only 24 GBP which I thought was reasonable. So, when dh or I are on our laptops, she can be too.

B was a nightmare tonight. Dh told her off and she was totally and utterly inconsolable - could not calm her down for ages. I read her stories whilst dh gave K her bottle and she was fine then, but when we came out to brush teeth she wanted to kiss K, who by then was asleep. I said no, as didn't want to wake her, and again she completely went off on one screaming and kicking out.

We are at our wits end with her - particularly dh.

Will be heading out to get some Omega 3 as soon as the shops open.

Eddas · 24/06/2007 21:12

Oh dear SOKL, sounds like a nightmare, fingers crossed the omega 3 helps

Quick question ladies, has everyone had a period yet? I only ask as I haven't. It was a while in coming after dd too but sure it wasn't this long. Maybe this is why i'm a bit teary/pissed off/moody

And NO i'm not pg, before anyone asks you have to have sex for that

Sexonknackeredlegs · 24/06/2007 21:47

Hi Eddas, it really is a nightmare. She can just go from being quite content to a monster at the flick of a switch. She went to a party yesterday and was a nightmare there. They were playing pass the parcel, and because she didn't get a go, she went beserk, screaming etc. and then when she did get the parcel and we all clapped, she burst in to tears and said we were laughing at her, and to all go away. She then took herself off and hid behind the TV and told us to stop looking at her.

She is usually very entertaining, good value etc. but she can be really aggressive.

I haven't had a period yet (and likewise, I am not pregnant as no shagging here either!).
I can't remember how long it took with B before they came back. I have felt for a week or so that it was about to start, but nothing yet.

Have you googled it to see what the average time is for periods to return after giving birth?

WestCountryLass · 24/06/2007 22:16

DD will be 3 and budget about £50. We just bought DS a new bike so she will have his first bike which looks brand new! I did see a Leapster console thing half price but DH said no as she would not play with it and he is right as I would have got it for the sake of it. She is a difficult one as she is not a very girly girl, she likes dressing girly but today she has played with one of DSs airoplanes all day....she likes Power Rangers and Spiderman

WestCountryLass · 24/06/2007 22:18

No periods here either. With DS1 my periods came back after 5 months but I weaned him at 4 months and he did have bottles too, I think my supply was rubbish because of it and I had no milk by the time he was 7 months. With DD my periods came back after 2 years BUT she did not wean til 8 months, never had bottles and used to BF all the time and eventually stopped at 2.5 years

elkiedee · 24/06/2007 22:29

Katy, the CTF voucher's arrival is linked to your Child Benefit claim (not the tax credit that's separate). I posted my form just after the second May bank holiday (29 May) - ie the first posting day once his birth certificates arrived, money came through around 12 June and CTF voucher arrived on around the Thursday just gone I think - 21 June, it might have been the day before. I hope that gives you an idea of how quickly it gets processed.

That's another form I've to fill in, passport application to finish first.

elkiedee · 24/06/2007 22:30

Anyone else tried applying for a baby passport yet, or planning to take newborns abroad? There's so much admin involved in having a new baby! I have to find a post office which does Check and Send. I got the photos taken in Snappy Snaps (used a chain/franchise place simply because it's easy to find out online where there's a branch). The information on the Passport Office website on places to do Check and Send is out of date for this postal district, so I don't have confidence that its listings for neighbouring areas will be accurate.

weeonion · 24/06/2007 22:36

evening folks - hello toyu all. hating the crap weather here - where is the summer sun??

pinion - dont want to add to your cnfusion but --- a nct pal was having trouble getting her baby to take the bottle and foudn that she woudl drink ebm using a straw!!!!!!!! she is on that instead of a bottle now - v strange to see but hey - it works!

glad the meet up went so well- sounds great. wodl love a BIG meet up but second the idea of it being in a central place. when woudl be a good time? woud dooby be able to make it across from ireland? maveta and clarice - what about you?? looking forward to the scottish one on tuesday

does anyones bubba suddenly clamp down on teh nipple towards the end of a feed? c has done it a few times today - pure agony!

we had a great day through at pride in eburgh yesterday - i even manage my first really public breastfeed - under an umbrella with it chucking down with rain whilt on the march. no-one had a clue that it was going on!

nuttygirl · 24/06/2007 22:46

Right thought I'd post and then catch up on the thread.

Have had an ok weekend. Today we bought a couple of bits for a pressie for BIL & SIL (for when their baby's born - it's not due til september but thought I'd be organised ). Also went to visit a couple of friends who live near by. Their new house was nice and Erin seemed quite taken by them (smiling and cooing at them!!!). Then went to M&S where I bought some food (expensive I know but couldn't resist) and some cookbooks (cos they were on offer - but it didn't go through on the till and nearly didn't get the discount cos someone had already removed the sign ...they did it as a goodwill gesture ).

Erin's feeding is NOT going well. All weekend we've had problems. She'll take 1oz and then start screaming. From then on she just struggles trying not to take any and we practically have to force feed it . Going to ring doc in morning to see if there's anything he can do. Am thinking it might be reflux or something????

Right off to catch up...

nuttygirl · 24/06/2007 23:08

Think I've caught up

WO - congrats on first public breastfeed

Ooogs - can understand why you're about the clothes, I would be too. What a cheek!

Pinions - the rain started while we were at friends house so it was a bit of a dash to the car then a dash from car to M&S (DH told me I didn't need a coat today )

WCL - sorry to hear about your foot.

Katy - Like Elkie says, the ctf voucher is only linked to your application for child benefit (not tax credits). I got sent a booklet a couple of weeks after my child benefit notice and the voucher came about 10 days after that (it said in the booklet if it didn't arrive 2 weeks after receiving the booklet to call them...don't know if you've had the booklet????)

CD - glad you enjoyed the party

SOKL - sorry to hear B's being a PITA.

Hi Eddas and anyone I've missed.

zazas · 24/06/2007 23:31

Evening all.... Lovely catching up with the trillion posts It sounded like your meet up was good - funny thinking of you all in 'real life' getting together.

Too tired to post really.....but just wanted to say hi. x

CaptainDippy · 25/06/2007 07:19

Morning - saying "hello" quickly as I won't get a chance to post today - DD1 is at home this morning & is completely incapable of entertaining herself for 5 secs. Hoping she'll grow out of this as it can get quite wearing....

{{{{{hugs}}}}} SOKL - DD1 is VERY unpredictable atm too - lots of tantrums & kicking & screaming. Soooooo frustrating & upsetting, esp when trying to deal with DD's 2 & 3 at the same time. Sigh. I'm going out to invest in some Omega 3 today as well - would be lovely if it even made the tiniest bit of difference. Love her to bits, but finding it a strain atm.

No period here Eddas - hoping it stays that way for a while longer - don't need anything else to deal with right now!! DD1 was BF for a year-ish & AF came back around 6m, I think. DD2 was BF for 2 months & AF came back around 2 & 1/2m - DD3 still going strong with the BF, so hoping it'll wait a while.

Hope you all have super days. Either soft play (rain) or Miniature Railway (sun) today - thinking it'll be the former looking at the forecast; but Eastbourne can be v.unpredictable so I'll wait & see!

"See" you all after DD's are in bed tonight - unless a miracle happens this morning!!

Eddas · 25/06/2007 08:21

Thanks for sharing re the periods Haven't googled it SOKL, at my 8 week check the doctor said it can take a while so i'll just see what happens. Thing is i'm not bf so it's a bit of a while now TBH. BUT i have woken this morning with those signs of it looming so maybe soon! Also i've been dieting this past week and just weighed myself and i've put on weight so am really hoping that is bacause of af we'll see!

Nutty hope the doctor can help re Erin's feeding

Elkiee, haven't applied for ds's passport yet and did dd's when she was 1. Re the check and send. I did mine & dd's using that and they missed that her photos were too light and they managed to lose my photos so vowed never to use it again. When dh's came up for renewal i just filled it in and sent it off. It came back fine. So if I were you and you are a confident form filler i'd save your £7

WCL, dd was 3 the other week and we bought her a bike. But TBH she got so much she'd not have noticed if we hadn't bought her a thing. So for xmas I am thinking of treating her for the day instead of a big pressie since she'll love that more. Obviously we'll get her something but they don't get it at their age do they?

Oooo that reminds me we have a dd free friday night/saturday this week, oh yay!! BIL & SIL's pressie to her is to stay over at theirs on friday night (with her beloved cousins) and then off out for the day on saturday. She'll love it. ANd I can't wait I'm such a mean mummy!!

Hi to everyone else, after such a long self induldged post i must run or we'll be late for perschool, again

nuttygirl · 25/06/2007 08:43

Morning CD & Eddas.

Erin has a doc's appointment at 2.10 today. Hopefully we'll get the problem sorted.

Eddas, I got my period at about 5 and a half weeks after the birth and have my second one now (so 10 and a half weeks).

Katy44 · 25/06/2007 09:14

Hi everyone
nutty, hope the doctor can help. T does this sometimes, this morning he fed for about 5 seconds before pulling off and screaming - he then wouldn't start again, but he doesn't do it all the time, so maybe I'm just not winding him properly? Let me know how you get on.
WO - congratulations on the public bf, rather you than me though it sounds a bit damp Does no-one else find they need 3 hands to deal with holding baby / stopping wriggling / latching on? I can't imagine how I'd bf holding an umbrella!
No AF here yet, it's been 8 weeks.
CD, hope you enjoy your day. Hope everyone else is OK, zazas, will you be able to catch up on sleep?
xx

Emmymummy · 25/06/2007 09:49

Hello, haven't posted for a little while & have a brain like a sieve so will just ramble on remembering what I can .

SE girls - it was great to see you all on Friday, I just wish it could have been for longer as I didn't get a chance to have a decent chat with all of you. You are all lovely though (EM gets teary), and I'm so glad to have met you. We should get a date in for the next meet as things are going to get complicated soon with the older ones on school holidays.....maybe another weekend meet-up would be easier so that we can leave the older DCs at home.

And talking of older DCs....Em too is being a bit of a PITA at the mo, so I'm another taker for the Omega 3. Getting lots of answering back, general stroppiness, selfishness, moodiness etc etc...Really winds me up, particularly as we do make such an effort to make her life as lovely as possible. Like all 5 year olds she just takes us for granted though...sigh. It does really make me feel very sad as I hate having to tell her off, and hate moaning at her, but some days she just pushes me too far. So sympathies to SOKL and CD who are also having these problems .

Periods - no not had one yet, but S is only 7 weeks old and I am BFing, so probably a bit early for me. Just my luck it'll come this weekend as we are off to Centre Parcs and I plan to be in the swimming pool a lot. Talking of which, must go out and get myself a new swimming cossie, otherwise I'll be floundering around in my maternity one.

Liath - where's this pic of you in your housecoat? Come on, we need a laugh...

Well S continues to wake 2 or 3 times a night for a feed. No real pattern and driving me slightly nutso. Sometimes she'll go back to sleep after feeding at 4am, and sometimes (like this morning), she won't. She feeds roughly every 3 hrs during the day, and is putting on weight at a very good rate (she was 11lbs 11oz last week, so has put on 3 lbs in 6.5 weeks). She eyes up food as we eat it, and had just drooled all over DH whilst watching me eat my breakfast. And I'm supposed to keep her on just milk until 6 months? Hmmmmmmm.

Right, weather here today is pants, cold, wet, horrid. Going for a haircut later and then may brave the swimming pool to start getting some swimming fitness back. DH is on leave this week, so no doubt will be badgering for the unmentionable (shhhhhh!...sex). Argh. . Wish me luck girls!

Katy44 · 25/06/2007 10:04

hi emmy
good luck
Had to put another pic of T playing on my profile, it's so cute, please have a look, it's the top one

Sexonknackeredlegs · 25/06/2007 10:08

Morning all.

One handed typing here, so slow!

CD, sorry to hear you are having trouble with dd1. Omega 3 sales are going to go through the roof!

Nutty. hope the docs can help today with Erin's feeding. I know a sign of reflux can be pulling off bottle/breast and crying.

Emmymummy, enjoy your haircut! Also sorry to hear you are having problems with dd1.
I know what you mean about giving them a nice life and it not being appreciated. As I said to Pinions, it is so soul destroying. Strangely though, and much welomed, was the fact that B was brilliant this morning!
I am going to start keeping a log of her behaviour to see if there are any links with anything.

Would also be up for a big meet up. A park central to as many as possible would be good. I wonder how much it would cost to hire a marquee just in case the weather is pants? Bloody awful here today.

Have forgotten everything else, so apologies to those not mentioned. Hope you are all well.

Off to the dentist although really cannot face dragging K there with the weeather being so bad and the fact you have to climb some steep stairs. Plus it clashes with her next bottle! Perhaps I'll tell them my car has broken down!!

Bramshott · 25/06/2007 10:10

Aww Katy, that's lovely! And love the blue bear one too. Am also as I hadn't seen your polar bear and elephant ones!

Katy44 · 25/06/2007 10:17

Thanks Bramshott [proud mummy smiley]
How are you doing today?
SOKL, good to hear that you've had a good morning with B, a log sounds like a very good idea, plus can someone remind me of the Omega 3 thing in a few years??

OP posts:
Eddas · 25/06/2007 10:30

aw very cute pics Katy

I love babies, not so keen on toddlers

Bramshott · 25/06/2007 10:33

Hugs to all those struggling with older DDs / DSs (although it does mainly seem to be DDs!!). After a really rough / tantrummy patch after Orla was born, my DD1 really is having a lovely phase at the moment - lots of "I love you mummy", happy playing by herself, sensible while we're out and about etc. That's not to say she doesn't have her moments (like this morning when I said if she wanted to wear her new sandals to nursery she'd have to wear them with socks !), but generally she is lovely atm and I am managing to enjoy these last few months before she goes off to "big school". It may just be that all things go in phases, but I half wonder if she has settled down because I have settled down and am now more confident of what I'm doing with 2, Orla is easier now etc, and we're all adjusting to life as a family of 4 three months down the line.

Mind you, my friend with 3 very feisty children swears by Omega 3 and says they really notice if they stop giving it, particularly with their 5 year old who is very easily frustrated.

Pesha · 25/06/2007 10:45

Hi all

One handed can hardly reach the laptop completely knackered just NEEEEEED SLEEP typing here so excuse any typos and me not making sense!

Loved the meet up although agree with em would have been nice to have longer as didnt get to talk to some people much at all. Marquee is worth looking into, would be great if they're not too much between lots of us but i realy have no clue. And i dont know how other people feel but if we/re meeting somewhere with plenty of space id be happy to bring my older 2, they'd love it and would be easier than trying to sort out childcare. dp was not happy after very sleep friday and was lik walking back into a war zone when i got home!

Dylan still has cold and so wanting to feed LOADS and waking up more at night and not happy to be put down. Andsling is wet cos had to wash it after a nappy explosion on the train home!

Omega 3 is something i keep meaning to try but never getting round to but with nathan about to start school i think its def time to start.

brain has died on me now. not feeling good today. may be back later, i lurk even if i dont have energy to post!

Pesha · 25/06/2007 11:05
