A new thread for us all

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
FunkyGlassSlipper · 25/07/2007 12:26

Sascha. I know what you meant and I'm sure HungarianHorntails will.

You are right - each to their own with feeding. Although like breast/bottle I guess any kind of feeding is contraversial. I am lucky that my DD loves ANY food and likes to feed herself as well as purees but it must be very difficult if you have a reflux baby and have had sickness since birth.

SachaF · 25/07/2007 13:10

Ah, FGS, have you finished the book now and so name changed? Bought it yesterday - but will wait for dh to read it first as he is the faster reader. Might have to re-read no.6 first.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 25/07/2007 13:40

DH finished it yesterday and I'm about halfway through it. Very frustrating as I can't read until the girls have gone to bed

accessorizewithbabysick · 25/07/2007 14:22

Sacha, how do you find purees more of a faff than blw? Do you think it's because blw fits in with the kind of stuff you'd normally eat? Cos I think blw would be a lot more work for me than purees but I suspect ds2 would like it as he loves the finger foods I do give him. So feeling pretty guilty about it at the mo'!

FunkyGlassSlipper · 25/07/2007 15:00

I'm afraid my diet isnt good enough to share dinners with DD

accessorizewithbabysick · 25/07/2007 15:31

Yup, I feel like that too fgs (and by the way I'm sharing HP with dp too, I'm so frustrated I have children to look after when I'm 250 pages in!). I make an effort when it's ds1 & dp, but if it was just me the poor mite would live on cereal or preztels and cream cheese . But today I've made butternut squash and red pepper soup, and then some sweetcorn cheesy pasta for tea - how does that translate to blw? I know I ought to read more about it, but never have the time whereas I have a book of purees (several in fact)/
Where oh where is olihan, magnolia, elibean, spina, lfm, margo, indith and everyone else?

FunkyGlassSlipper · 25/07/2007 15:35

It is quiet isnt it?

My DD eats jarred purees, fruit purees but also has what her sister has so pasta, broccoli, bananas, breadsticks, rice cakes etc etc. She had quiche with me the other day too (well, the filling anyway). I am choosing not to look into blw as a method tbh and am doing what fits in with us at any given time.

The only thing I'm struggling with tbh is milk. She loves mine, hates formula.

weirdbird · 25/07/2007 19:05

I think, and I may be wrong, thats its quiet because the school holidays have started!

FunkyGlassSlipper · 25/07/2007 20:28

Lol. I am on here because the school holidays have started.

And DH is away.

And DD2 is breastfeeding a million times a day.

And DD1 has only just gone to bed...

Olihan · 25/07/2007 22:19

I'm here! Hello!

Been up in sunny Scotland since Saturday - was lovely but ds2 hated the travel cot so dh, he and I were squished into a double bed. We've got a kingsize at home so we were paranoid about squashing him .

Sleeping is no better, but also not getting worse, which is a good thing! Lots of wakings in the evening but usually about 3 hour gaps through the night. We're clearing the spare room tomorrow and moving him in there to see if being away from us and the noise of ds1 and dd will help. Fingers crossed, eh!

I'm also doing a mix of blw and purees, but am moving more towards blw for lunch and tea. He's too fussy about savoury purees to stick with them!

DH bought HP today so we can fight over it later!

Ds2 calling again, see you all tomorrow!

babypowder · 25/07/2007 22:52

I'm here too! Manically trying to get ready for our annual bash on Saturday. There's always sooooo much to do before a party (tho DH seems to think that the fairies come in and sort it out )

We're doing a combination of BLW and mashed-up food, too. We tried baby-led-porridge the other morning. Never again. I will feed her mushy things until she can sit at a table with a knife and fork and do it properly. It's hard enough getting bits of sucked rice-cake off the floor

I had an appointment with the family planning consultant today, mostly to discuss whether they can physically insert a coil into me. (I'm so bored of being small, I can't begin to tell you. I only ever wanted to be as tall as my mum, and she's only 5'1" Suffice to say I remain a good few inches below that) Anyway, she did say that until the coil threads soften, there is a risk of minor injury to DH. Do which I involuntarily (but honestly) said 'Good'.

babypowder · 25/07/2007 22:52

to which

(BP, for god's sake, preview)

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 26/07/2007 00:12

It's nice to be missed. Facebook has taken over my life! We were away near Norfolk on Monday visiting FIL

Must go and read the rest of the posts!

HungarianHorntailsBumcheek · 26/07/2007 19:56

Lol @ SachaF who has so got the wrong end of the stick with the comment i made!!

I cringe at blw because i would like to do it but my lo chokes on anything fingerfood-like! And my name is a reference to the Hungarian Horntail which Harry Potter fought in Goblet of Fire . Now going to change name back to GodzillasBumcheek as it was before stupid book came out...sorry for all the confusion.

SachaF · 26/07/2007 21:12

Aha! Maybe I should read a few of the old HP's!
Breakfast is the most faffy for blw, to start with he was great at putting a spoon of porridge in is mouth, now he's not....but porridge covered rice cakes seem to work!
He won't open his mouth very far to put a spoon in, tries to run his fingers down the spoon and get it all on his hands first, and if he does get purees in his mouth he blows bubbles with them which is VERY messy. Also I get bored trying to feed him and frustrated so for me I leave him to it, eat my food and clear up the mess afterwards
Tend to eat a lot of steamed veg anyway, so eg dinner (for him) was potato and courgette, followed by a whole plum! (Cut in to quarters I add). Lunch was a crust of my (gluten free) bread, potatoes (last night's dinner, cook extra so when we have rice he has potatoes) and half a plum. Not too worried about it being varied as he has milk 4/5x day.
He has a bath every night to catch any mess we've missed during the day....

SachaF · 26/07/2007 21:15

Oli, good luck with the room move - and hope you are having a good time in Scotland and avoiding the midges, oh how I'd love to head up there for a while again, however 2 weeks in North Wales in August will have to see me through...

magnolia1 · 26/07/2007 21:26

I'm kind of here
Fgs: I wondered about a growth spurt to. ds1 is 8 months next monday and feeding alllllll the time
Sleep still no better In fact I might bring the travel cot down tonight and leave him to whinge? Is that cruel? I am just sooooo tired.
Dh wants to help but ds1 will have a bottle and then still wake for a b/f .
Its my birthday on Sunday so off out tomorrow night (leaving kids with dh and going on a girlie night)

Oli, glad your sleep isn't getting worse, hope it improves soon xx

FunkyGlassSlipper · 26/07/2007 21:44

magnolia, maybe it is a growth spurt?

I spoke to my health visitor about introducing cows milk as DD wont take formula (I know, I know...) and she is having 6+ feeds a day. She said no to milk (unsurprisingly) but said I should reduce the breastfeeds to approx 2 a day . I have decided to try and feed every 3.5-4 hours rather than every 2.5-3 byt stringing it out with water and snacks. Wish me luck...

magnolia1 · 26/07/2007 21:46

I have been doing that in the day trying to get extra solids in but he still wakes loads in the night. Wondering if he is snacking rather than full feeds in the day or maybe he just likes to keep me AWAKE

weirdbird · 26/07/2007 21:54

We do BLW in that Hannah always chews on anything suitable after she has had her mush, but she loves her mush and will wolf down large quantaties, never spits anything out, never blows bubbles and always seems to want more....

She even ate the Spinach, parsnip and basil combo that I bought cause I wasm't paying attention when i was out shopping...

I made my family welsh rarebit yesterday as my DH thought it was just another name for cheese on toast and she really liked the crusts from that!

Just had a big argument with DH (well for us, we rarely argue) over a organiser of all the stupid things, he was just being so negative that I could keep 2 calenders upto date. I manage our wall one without issue, but I really need to be able to say yes to appt.s and play dates when out and never know if we are busy as the calendar is on the wall at home and I can't remember every blessed thing on it. Don't know why he's even moaning its not like he EVER does anything with it, its left up to me.... I was in a damn good mood as well up to now...

OP posts:
Olihan · 27/07/2007 07:04

Well, new room for ds2 last night and.......it went pretty well, I think. For the first time ever he went from 1am to 5:20am between feeds. 4 hours 20 mins . He did wake at 2am but dh settled him, which is another minor achievement as ds2 usually screams until I go to him.

WB, it' funnny the things you fall out over isn't it? Dh and I bicker over the most pointless things - hope you and dh made up and you got both your organisers. (I bought an Organised Mum weekly planner calendar the other day and it's fab, I nearly bought the diary lifebook thingy as well, for the same reason as you, might get that another day!)

Magnolia, how was your night? Did you leave him for a bit? It's so hard to let them whinge when you're worried about them waking the other dcs, isn't it. Not to mention how guilty it makes you feel!

LOL at Sacha and Bumcheek's mix up! I thought we were going to have our first Dec2006 fight . Soft veggie sticks at dawn and all that!!

FGS, can't believe your hV said to drop down to 2 bfs a day (well, I can, she's a HV, she's paid to give out the wrong info!) I thought bm or fm was supposed to be the bulk of their diet until 12mo. Have you tried mixing the formula with bm and gradually changing the amounts so she gets used to the taste? We had to do that with dd when she switched to cow's milk from fm. We added an extra oz of cow's milk each day and she adapted really easily. OTOH, ds2 rarely goes more than 2.5 - 3 hrs between feeds and has a bf after each solid meal. It gets a bit much sometimes, doesn't it?

BP, @ 'good' with the coil strings. I wonder if I could use that excuse? I think dh is seeing ds2 moving upstairs as the green light .

Bettter go and entertain dcs I suppose, rather than ignoring them while I catch up with all of you .

magnolia1 · 27/07/2007 09:49

Ds1 and wIW slept on the sofa all night

Going to the doctors today, I am begging him for valagan (stronger than phenergan) and if that doesn't do anthing then will have to go down the cc route it's awful but i would rather drug my baby then do controlled crying

glad your night was a bit better oli x

WB, me and dh argue over complete rubbish

I have spilt tea over the keyboard and its starting to go funny

Gloria42 · 27/07/2007 09:57

Glad I'm not the only one arguing with DP about stupid things. Sometimes it seems every day is just a chance to find something else to bicker about!

babypowder · 27/07/2007 10:47

Urgh - been up since 5 with DD2 who has a nsaty cough. By 6, I had tidied DD1s room (she was in our bed), got chickpeas on to cook, made the orange cream to go with the cake tomorrow and tidied the livingroom. I now feel like death warmed up. How do you early risers cope?

And, having gone through our liquor cabinet (cupboard under sink, along with the cleaning stuff ), I find that our neighbour has polished off all the gin, vodka and whisky and topped the bottles up with water. AAAAAAAAAAGH!

And DH and I bicker as well at the moment, which isn't like us either.

SachaF · 27/07/2007 12:45

A bit at the HV advice of 2 bottles a day! I was just saying to dh that I ought to cut out the pre lunch feed at this age but want to wait until ds has slept through for a fortnight (hey, he did it once this week).
And also at your alcohol stealing neighbour - how rude! What if you seriously needed a drink one day?!
DH is home sick, ds is just getting over his cold, and I'm just catching it. Yuck!
Also starting to go round the house listing jobs we need to do so we can put it on the market - anyone want to come round for a paint party? I can do soft veggie sticks for dinner
