A new thread for us all

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

AQ - I'm holding off reading Harry Potter until dd1 is able to read them with me.

accessorizewithbabysick · 22/07/2007 06:56

Yeah, I know what you mean gloria, just when you think you've relaxed, you suddenly get waves of paranoid thoughts...Was that just normal upchucking or is he ill?

I'm waiting for my dsis to finish no.7, but then prob. dp will want to read it and he'll take an age (reads about a page a day). NOt sure if it's wise to see movie of no.5 then read no.6 and no.7 after each other - overload perhaps? Margo, won't you be waiting a very very long time!! DP and I went to the lib yesterday with the lo's and he wanted something he could read to ds1 who is 3.7. He thought lion witch and wardrobe but pointed out it's got some rather scary bits so ended up with secret seven!

accessorizewithbabysick · 22/07/2007 06:56

Magnolia, Olihan, any better on the sleep front this weekend? Did your dh's give you a break?

Gloria42 · 22/07/2007 09:21

Thankfully it seems to be just a one-off, normal chucking up! He rolls onto his tummy and then makes himself sick with the effort of trying to turn back!

Wee soul must have been starving this morning, took 7oz ff, then a plate of baby cereal AND some pureed fruit! Nothing wrong with him....

babypowder · 22/07/2007 10:15

Glad everything's OK, Gloria. I hate it, hate it when they're ill, especially until they can give you a full, reasonable breakdown of just how poorly they feel!

FoeGlassSlipper · 22/07/2007 11:26

I'm here. DDs christening yesterday. All very good but now I'm very tired.

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 22/07/2007 11:34

my dds christening is on the 2nd september

Has anyone poked me in facebook from here? only I've poked them back and I've lost their name. Poke me again if you want, I quite like it.

Gloria42 · 22/07/2007 13:07

He's napping just now - on his front!? Should I move him round?
He's in a cot bed now and I always place him at the bottom. Then he wriggles round 90-180 degrees onto his tummy. He rolls back to front no problem, but I've never seen him go the other way

SachaF · 22/07/2007 14:42

Got back from hols yesterday - and then went out to a party yesterday evening! Lots to catch up on.
After 3 nights of sleeping through prior to hols ds went back to waking 3-4 times a night. Plus we weren't going to bed 'til midnight so absolutely shattered!
Disposable nappies were great for the week , but they do smell more!
BLW unfortunately had to go out the window - all the veg were cooked with salt and to get them to cook something special for ds a) isn't the point of blw and b) was a hassle (but we did it a few times). Plus they wouldn't always have a tray for the high chair and refused to put anything down on their carpet so I felt guilty when he threw food. So a mixture of purees from a pot (once he learnt how to be spoon fed) and finger foods did the trick.
Holiday was an experience! and we are now relaxing at home - next holiday is self catered which will be so much easier and more relaxed!
Will catch up over the next few days.
Oh, and I'm still sitting here swaying side to side even though I've been back on dry land for over 24 hours!

babypowder · 23/07/2007 09:40

Sacha, I can just imagine you sitting swaying in front of MN . It is tough, taking little ones on 'normal'holidays - I much prefer self catering at this stage. Having said that, we're off to stay at a (rather posh) hotel for a few nights soon, and I'm considering taking some plumbaby purees with me, just in case.

Why do babies stick their feet straight into dirty nappies? Boy, am I missing exclusive BF nappies. Thank god for paper liners

accessorizewithbabysick · 23/07/2007 13:47

Much admiring of attempts to go with blw, I manage a bit of finger food now and again is all. Ella's house stuff is quite handy to carry round too (little pouches) although very pureed, ds2 lapped some up at the library the other day as he got hungry at 10.45am, hope the staff didn't mind the slurping. I ought to be making some stuff now for him, but I've done my shoulder in and I just want to sit on the sofa!

Christenings sound great, I was thinking of doing a baby naming ceremony for ds2 as we never did for ds1 but would have to get myself into gear and that seems unlikely as I'm back at work in a fortnight (ono 2 days tho).

HungarianHorntailsBumcheek · 23/07/2007 14:05

Have been away a few days reding cough-harrypotter-cough. I think i will have to give blw a skip cos my lo can't cope with finger food, or lumps yet either. A bit of texture is about all she can manage. Is it different for babies with reflux does anyone know? (I think she has silent reflux but is so far undiagnosed).

Gloria42 · 23/07/2007 21:38

Just had to deal with a mega-sick from DS. Was giving him his last ff before bed, all cute in his pj's and grobag, was winding him, got a bit of sick (just milk) then everything came up, the whole bottle plus dinner. Not sure what happened, it just kinda pumped out of him leaving a nice puddle on his lap. After it finished he was all smiles (and then took another 6oz from a new bottle), but there was loads of scik to clear up. YUCK!

It's happened before, but only when he's chocked then gagged (last time it was the leg of a toy spider someone bought him ). Not sure what set him off this time. Should I be worried?

PS on an unrelated point, DS has decided he quite likes sleeping on his tum!

HungarianHorntailsBumcheek · 23/07/2007 21:43

No idea, but poor you having to clean that up [yuck emoticon]

accessorizewithbabysick · 23/07/2007 21:52

Urgghg, sounds horrible! It's the bits of orange I have trouble with
I seem to remember being told one projectile vomit fine, but if they keep on there's something up. The fact that he was smiling sounds positive though, doesn't it? I can't help smiling back at ds2 when he does that even though I'm usually covered in sick!

HungarianHorntailsBumcheek · 23/07/2007 21:54

Lol...it is difficult to be cross when they are smiling and saying in baby..."look at me, i even look cute after i've barfed all over myself"

Gloria42 · 23/07/2007 22:55

He just looked a bit shocked while it poured out his mouth, then delighted that he had space for more milk! That's my boy, he likes his food !
He's been sleeping ever since, no more puddles, so maybe he just gagged on a bit of milk-sick.
Re orange sick, you know how they say there's always carrot in your sick even if you haven't eaten any for years? Do you think it's all been stored from weaning times? DS has eaten so many carrots already I'm sure his sick will be orange for a while! A girl at my baby group told me her friend's baby actually turned a shade of orange adn the doc told her it was cos she ate so much carrots ! A lot to answer for...

FoeGlassSlipper · 24/07/2007 09:45

lol @ orange baby. Not surprised.

at all the sickness. Sounds like a one of Gloria42. Gross but I wouldnt be concerned yet.

I had a thread here about DD and milk. She just wont take formula no matter what I try. She's feeding a lot more at the moment too. Night waking all last week. Do they have another growth spurt? She is 7.5 months. Or is she just a hungry baby? Your opinions on cow's milk would be welcomed.

weirdbird · 24/07/2007 09:50

They do use carrot to colour food, DH was most shocked when we bought some diferent butter because it was all they had and he found it contained carrot to make it more yellow

We have been on flood warning, but they now say we should be ok, hope so!

It wsa bad enough on Friday when the garage flooded.
No sick here for 4 days, its when they don't do it for a bit, that it catches you off gaurd!

HHB - Mine has reflux and gags very easily, but we are just taking things slowly, just have to be very on the ball if she does stick anything too far down her throat as she will bring everything back up very easily.

Last day of school today for my DD, can't believe she has finished her first year.

I'm on facebook, but havn't poked anyone on here been catching up with lots of people I went to school with though.

Weirdbird, when everything comes up do you feed your LO again? Wasn't sure what to do last night, but offered him bottle which he took in the hope he'd still sleep through.

weirdbird · 24/07/2007 10:19

Sometimes I do sometimes I dont, quite often when she brings everything up by the time she is cleaned up she is dropping off to sleep (not sure why throwing up is soo tiring!) Sometimes she is wide awake and is desperate to feed again, so I usually let her dictate it, I always worry that she wont sleep as long if I havnt fed her again, but she usually does.

SachaF · 25/07/2007 11:51

Urghh, ds has retreated back to being a 5 week old! He has a cold and is coughing and spluttering like a good 'un, however, he has forgotten how to sleep! I was up twice last night for an hour and a half each time with him, poor little soul was struggling to breathe. His 4 feeds/day seem to have more than doubled . Not suprising really when he can't breathe well but he still seems to be emptying me out each time! Plus very clingy, wants me to hold him, but then struggles when I do and is crying lots. Took me 45 mins to get him down for his morning nap, 2nd attempt at feeding to sleep worked. Think I need to get the dummies back out of the cupboard.
He's still very cute through all of this but I really struggle with the crying now, seems to affect me far more than it did when he was younger.
Ah, the 20 minutes of napping seems to be over.......

HungarianHorntailsBumcheek · 25/07/2007 11:53

She hsn't brought up a full feed in ages now (touch wood), as it's the Silent Reflux type i think she has, but still has several acidy burps a day and it's a real torment trying to get milk into her sometimes! I am still taking it slow like you said, Wierdbird, but people say baby-led-weaning and i cringe!

Did used to feed lo again after she sicked btw, unless she didn't want it.

SachaF · 25/07/2007 12:17

Hi HHBC,
But when people say BLW and you cringe, everyone has their own parenting style and every child is different. If I had a different baby I might not do BLW. It's just, for me, I find purees a faff and he wants to feed himself most of the time. Hope I'm not coming across as too defensive, I just think everyone has a right to feed their child as they see fit (within reason).
So are you Hungarian and in the UK? Or vice versa or any other combination? Just interested as ds was conceived whilst dh and I were working in Budapest .

SachaF · 25/07/2007 12:18

OK, just re-read and that did all come across wrong, sorry! If I try and undo it with more words I'll probably just put my foot in it more knowing me!
