March 2007 - can't keep up

eidsvold · 18/06/2007 08:06

Hi all -miss a few days due to nightmare things happening at home and I can't keep up now - so started a new thread. Perhaps thought we could remind each other when babes were born - I have lost track at who is the oldest etc.

Been busy here. Prac nanny is okay but hard work - feel like I can't totally relax in my own home etc. She is not sure how to deal with /take dd1 - making it hard. Dd1 had major meltdown after swimming the other day and then at hospital appt, then nanny took eyes from her for a second and she is finally found out on the footpath beside a major road and a sensible and lovely man brought her back. Unlike hospital volunteer who managed to stop dd1 taking a lift anywhere but when she could not get dd1 to hold her hand - she just left her It is clear the minute you speak to dd1 she has special needs FGS. poor nanny student was beside herself.

Saturday dh was gone all day on training exercise and dds only wanted daddy - long day. I managed to get out to a trivia night - MY TEAM WON - i found the questions very easy and answered most of them ( not bragging- just surprised my brain still functioned) I took dd3 - she would not go to sleep - come 11pm still wide awake and beyond over tired... got her home - to see dd2 in bed with dh cause she had an explosive puke that covered everything in her room. She was still up at 1am puking and I had dd3 still crying as she was exhausted.

so long rant - long few days - I am wrecked!!

dd3 - 12 weeks old.

high chair?!saying that,i dont expect Elsie to sit up before 8 months at the earliest, and by then dd2 will have outgrown her highchair.

rosy-i tried so hard to pretend i didnt know dp,then i went to pick the kids up and he outed me!

eidsvold · 29/06/2007 01:55

lily - would it not be better go get one of those chairs that you can attach to the table and that way you can put it out the way when it is not needed or one like

this

dd1 had trouble with hearing but not really bad glue ear - her issue is given her facial structure the ear canals and tubes are very small making it hard for fluid to drain - given that she also had ginormous tonsils and adenoids - nothing could drain out anyway. Take away tonsils and adenoids - no sleep apnoea and behaviour improves out of sight - grommets in at the same time - fabulous.

In fact we are just waiting for her to be called again for cleaning under general and possible second set of adenoids.

the grommets look like cotton reels that have been stood up and hit with a hammer.

I went shopping last night - woo hoo out at night and arrived home to dh watching what was your Doctor Who christmas special - with the guy you lot rave about! Apparently the new series is starting here on Saturday night - there goes my dvd night - now dh thinks there is something fab on tv!

I use one of those seats you attch to the table. They're great and really save on space. Highly recommend.
Raining stair rods here this morning.

Kiwi is kate still so smilely? You have such lovely pictures of her. I wish Ronnie would smile for the camera. Atm he will only smile for me. If strangers coo at him he gives them a real 'f*ck off' look, just like ds2 infact!

kittywits · 29/06/2007 07:22

Eids, what did you buy?
Dr who is fab!!

Mossy · 29/06/2007 08:02

Diva I missed the earing thread... will have to go and have a look! I couldn't imagine what dh would say if he came on here. He'd either be deliberately over-PC to get everyone's back up, or be really sexist (to get everyone's back up). Sense a theme emerging?

Eids... so glad you've finally discovered the Doctor; he is ace!!

Kiwi Kate is so cute and smiley! Bertie will only smile if you really knock yourself out with pulling silly faces. Or if he's done a poo.

Lily I got given a high-chair by a friend of mil's so I don't have to worry about it... but I did go to the mothercare sale yesterday and there was a wooden one that looked gorgeous, I was almost a bit that I didn't have to buy it!!

Muppet I'm glad to hear Bertie isn't the only all-night sucker... if you believed some of the things I get told at Mums & Tots their babies started sleeping through the night at one day old etc. etc.

Oh balls Bertie is wailing... is it a tired wail or a "I need a hug now" wail? Only one way to find out...

spongecake · 29/06/2007 08:37

just read top messages and high chairs! blimey, my baby looks like he will always prefer to just lay there and suck my boobs!
any advice on mattresses? hope no one rained out..!

TransfiguratingLily · 29/06/2007 09:56

Hasan keeps making himself wretch with chomping on his fist...dribble everywhere.

Eidsvold you are a star, I just thought you would have links for us The first link is what I have for little ds2, If they are ok from a young age? ~I might just get another. I really fancied the third...(counts pennys in purse)

Kitty I went visiting when dd was a baby and put her in one of those seats that attatch, it came loose and fell off and dd landed on their dog (soft landing) everyone was ok but I'm afraid of those seats now.

Mossy, does your mil have a high chair at her house? You may just have to give mil the high chair and get new fancy one... actually, I was given a very bulky high chair so it lives at my sisters house where there is loads of space for it and it is well used ie I'm always over with all the sproglets eating at my sisters house!
Ah sure, she loves to cook and we love to eat...a perfect combination

eidsvold · 29/06/2007 10:56

kitty - my shopping was not that exciting:

a sports bra - as the ones I have are too small and have underwire.

  • pj pants for dh - never had any before and it is chilly - so got him one pair that he wears all the time when hanging out at home, so got him another pair

  • put a george foreman grill on lay by

met a friend for coffee and cake - best part.

did go looking for some winter boots as they were on sale but nothing that grabbed me. I really want to get a very very good pair that are going to last me a long time and have yet to find any that grab me - after ankle sort rather than knee highs as I live in jeans and trousers in the winter.

ae, Sponge... hope no one has been affected by the rain / flooding around! I can't believe this balmy summer weather.

I like the look of the high chair your friend uses, Eids but you have me worried now Rosy! I saw a wooden one at Mothercare yesterday too Mossy - wonder if it was the same one? It wasn't on sale tho.

Yay for finding a happy nursery Sazzy. We need to get on to this too - September is looming.

LunarSea · 29/06/2007 14:43

We had this for ds1 once he didn't need the back support (had a bigger padded highchair for the first few months) - but at nearly 6 he's still using it and likely to for a while yet so am contemplating having to get another one for Toby next time they're available (only a couple of times a year).

kittywits · 29/06/2007 14:56

lunar we've got 4 of those too!!!! . Come to think of it we've got sooooo much kiddie stuff!

LaidbackinEngland · 29/06/2007 18:36

Hi Rosy !

I am here ! Sorry not to have been around lately , been madly busy. Have found a nice house in North Devon , moving 17th July. Have been doing all the necessary finding schools etc. YAAAAAAAAWWWN !

I WILL catch up with all the news tomorrow. Going to Shrek in the afternoon, but will book in some much needed mumsnet time.

Amos is cool. 3 months a couple of days ago

TransfiguratingLily · 29/06/2007 19:01

Brilliant, Laidback, was starting to think you had abandoned us! Look forward to hearing all your bizz

divastrop · 29/06/2007 21:29

hi all.
hi laidback-glad you've found a nice house

i read all the posts earlier but cant remember what anybody said

i just cant believe we are chatting about high chairs etc,and there is a march 2008 thread chatting about MS and wondering whether theres really a baby in there etc.it seems like 5 seconds since we were talking about that.

Elsie slept from 8-4.45 last night.but she did drink copious amounts of milk during the day.she's 16 weeks today

foxcub · 29/06/2007 21:45

Good news laidback - fab about the house

kittywits · 29/06/2007 22:14

Hi Laidback, excellent news

Hello Diva and Foxy (waves)
Where IS everybody?

spongecake · 29/06/2007 22:37

hi there ladies

have moved ds into his new bed tonight so on red alert in case he wakes up and is scared. my baby is too big for his moses basket- he is growing up so fast...

north devon laidback, sounds lovely

its v quiet on this thread today????

Mossy · 30/06/2007 08:55

I'm only here to say hello and goodbye I'm afraid as Bertie is kerfuffling for a feed.

Laidback that's wonderful news! And nice to have you back!

Yes it does seem weird to think that there is a March 08 thread. Although it wasn't until 25th July that I got my positive pregnancy test. How weird to think that in a way Bertie is almost a "year old"!!

Eids whenever I shop for boots I look for knee-highs and all I can ever find is ankle boots!

Lily... good idea about the high chair! Although I think it might be some time before Bertie needs one. Shows no sign of sitting up yet (although he can hold his head up by himself about 95% of the time now).

Spongecake I'm with you, I don't think Bertie will be an early weaner, he seems to just want to suck, suck, suck all day long.

Hmm... Bertie seems to have gone back to sleep maybe time for a coffee for me!

Oh just a silly question regarding poo. Sorry if tmi, but, Bertie used to go several days between poos, as much as a week sometimes. But the last five days he's done one, sometimes two, a day. And on his weigh-in he's lost two ounces. He's still breastfed, so why would this change all of a sudden? He is eleven weeks' old.

eidsvold · 30/06/2007 10:29

just want to say I LOVE MY DRYER!!

did a load of nappies and did not get them out to dry in the sun as we were out early and most of the day - getting home as the afternoon chill set in... popped the cloth nappies and terries in the dryer and wow - done and all fluffy. have plenty of plastic pants to no problem with covers!!

divastrop · 30/06/2007 12:03

eids-i meant to say yesterday thanks for the info on grommets.i also saw a post of yours on an old thread that somebody directed me to.

i have heard only good things or neutral things so i'm not as worried now.

oh b*er the carnival is starting now, better get to the front room

Mossy · 30/06/2007 12:27

What's happened to Bertie? Or rather, what's happened to Gollum? Where's he gone? Should I check the shed for pods?

Bertie had a lovely long feed... and has gone to sleep... by himself!!! I mean... without a dummy, without being rocked, without me singing to him, without me holding his hands down so he doesn't freak himself out...

The postie came to the door and the dogs barked their heads off... his eyes opened... then closed again!!!

And Kitty... the postie delivered your sling! When Bertie wakes up I shall try him in it! I have to ask, what have you washed it in, it smells lovely!!

Diva, what carnival? Sounds exciting!

Eids, glad you are enjoying your dryer!!

kittywits · 30/06/2007 13:01

Mossy, see. it all starts to improve as you/they get to 3 months. Ronnie too is starting to have decent sleeps during the day.

Glad the sling arrived. I guess the smell is my perfume . I tried it on quickly befors I sent it to see if it was ok!

divastrop · 30/06/2007 14:41

mossy-so glad Bertie is turing into a happy baby for you now.Elsie just catnaps during the day but is normally settled for the night by 8pm so im not complaining.

dont know how she will take to the travel cot at my mums though.

oh yes-should i buy a new mattress for the cot?the one thats in it was bought new for dd2 and she used it for about 6 months(shes in a cotbed now).i mean, its not like she puked on it or anything.i got a new moses basket mattress obviously as dd2 had the bronchiolitis, but i dont know if i should get a new cot one.

mossy-it was the town carnival, which passes by my house now,it was very short and boring due to the rain

evenhope · 30/06/2007 18:01

It's been ages since I've been back to this thread. We went to a family party last weekend and DD was passed around. She looked for me the whole time. She isn't a sociable child at all. She even screamed when left with daddy this week- only mummy will do.

She also hates travelling, so DH has been off to collect DD1 from uni today and left us behind. I've still had to be back and forth picking up and dropping off DS1 and DS2 who can't seem to co-ordinate their work. Every time the poor little soul drops off it's time to go somewhere.

She's started singing as of yesterday It's so sweet. I don't remember the others doing it.

We're also getting 2 fists in the mouth and copious dribble. She's permanently sopping wet.

I'm amazed some of you are looking at highchairs already.
