Just a quickie to thank Jas for a lovely afternoon, and to let her know that we had a traffic jam free trip back .

Phoenix · 11/06/2007 16:11

Oh i was wrong it's the brakes that are 60% worn and they quoted £135 dh has just told me.

The roofers are done for the day now. They've stripped and lined the front of the house and are doing the back tomorrow. The joiner's been to do the attic but has only stripped it back for now as he didn't want to be messing up there while the roofer's working on the roof so he's coming back next week when its done. We booked him in especially for this week cos we're off work. It's the roofers that have caused the problems as they were meant to be here last week but got delayed on another job

Jas · 11/06/2007 17:16

And thankyou for the bike, csws. I will be trying it out tonight once ds is in bed DS slept til 3, and I forgot to give him his milk, so he stuffed himself on leftover corn on the cob whilst I made tea.

There are an awful lot of faces today. Men and motors, eh I would be very cross about the cost of the petrol cap, too Phoenix. Does your dh put the empty milk bottle back in the fridge macca? Mine has done, more than once, as if you aren't the one to throw it away, it isn't really empty.

mustrunmore · 11/06/2007 19:19

Macca, how about a dh who goes to tescos on the way home, knows we have nothing in to feed the boys a balanced meal because I've been saying it all weekend, but only comes home with a baguette and 2 pizzas?

Definitely not telling you my RFL time You'd laugh at me.

Phoenix; that is precisley why we dont have a car. In no shape or form would it fit in our budget, even if it never neeed repairs, let alone if it did!

2boysmacca · 11/06/2007 19:52

The arguement continues here. He thinks that it's courtesy to tell someone he's eaen the last of something if he is a guest but 'there is no way i'm going to tell you each time I finish something off, you just need to shop better' Why the hell are they such arseholes?

Come on, tell me, it can't be that bad. I bet you did it under 30 mins and it's only you who thinks it's a crap time because you're comparing yourself to someone who no longer exists.

Phoenix · 11/06/2007 20:41

I've just ordered me and ds some crocs

Jas · 11/06/2007 20:46

I tried on csws' crocs today, and will admit I can see the attraction. I think they would be great for the kids.

macca - this may sound odd, but do you use a shopping list? I do now, and dp has got used to adding things to the list when they are running out (not stuff like milk and bread though. We get through so much of it we have to buy it daily any way)

2boysmacca · 11/06/2007 21:04

Yes I have a list but he doesn't add to it. He reckons 'it's not him' to make lists!! He really thinks I am being out of order by asking him to tell me when he finishes soemthing, 'I can't live my life like that' ?????

There is a cheaper alternative to crocs for the kids called Gumbies. The boys have a pair, and have done for a few months. I got mine from a garden centre, I think they were about £8.00. They are like crocs in every way, but without the price tag.

Jas · 11/06/2007 21:09

Maybe you should take him up on his offer to do the shopping then....

2boysmacca · 11/06/2007 21:25

You know what, he used to do it but he never took the list with him and he ended up buying so much that we didn't need and he couldn't think in terms of food for the week. For me, I have a plan on what we'll have, enough for 5 days. He'd forget the list but not think, what meals are planned for the week. He was so crap, I prefer to go during the week with the boys! Now that says something!!

Right, work complete, all internet orders complete (fathers day gifts, undies for me from Figleaves and present for fil from the boys so I am now moving away from the computer!

ChasingSquirrels · 11/06/2007 21:31

well I have run myself out of milk today (actually my mum - who has the boys in the morning when I am at work - has run me out of it) and I didn't realise until tea time. dh is away and I can't leave the boys and go and get some. there is enough for one of them, and the other will have to have the uht skimmed milk that we have for the dog's cornflakes (don't laugh so loud) on their cereal.

I tell dh to put it on a shopping list, he doesn't so I tell him he can't complain. About once a month (or less, depends how often he is home) we both go shopping together and he stocks up on stuff he wants.

Phoenix · 11/06/2007 21:36

We've got some shopping list fridge magnets but we always forget to use them.

2boysmacca · 11/06/2007 21:38

If I can find the number of the local dairy I think I'm going to switch to getting milk delivered, it depends if they supply organic though too. Last night the milkman was doing his rounds at 1.30am!!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/06/2007 21:40

We never run out of milk for dd here .

Dh is also hopeless re shopping. He does sometimes tell me when we run out of something, but I say to put it on the list (on the wall in the kitchen) and he doesn't, and then moans when I don't buy it.

Have you been for a ride then Jas?

Come on mrm - I want to know your time. I reckon it will be faster than I could do it, but Jas and I decided that we didn't need to do RFL as we got plenty of exercise chasing dd round the park .

KelBelle · 11/06/2007 21:49

I buy 10 pints of milk at the supermarket on a Friday and get a pint delivered on Mon, Wed and Fri for DS. He loves his milk!!! I also buy bread and freeze it - the Kingsmill ones freeze ok but supermarket own dont. That way I never run out of bread or milk!!

KelBelle · 11/06/2007 21:52

MRM - I think DH is using my friend as an excuse to ease his own conscience. He wont lay the blame on himself and it is always my fault, my friends fault etc that way he feels he is in the clear.

Phoenix - I really liked the car sleeping bag too.

I have a cold coming, DS has passed his germs onto me and I have had a sore throat since Sat and my chest and back is now starting to get sore. DS has been coughing all day and we missed toddler group because he was grouchy and I put him back to bed at 10am!!

Phoenix · 11/06/2007 21:54

You can freeze milk apparantly.

We buy a 6pint and then normally buy another 4 or 6 pint before the end of the week. At asda today they had 2 x 6pints for £3 on offer so we got them.

KelBelle · 11/06/2007 22:00

Yes I've heard about freezing milk, perhaps we should give it a go!!! Sounds a bit iffy though.

Phoenix · 11/06/2007 22:07

Sounds iffy to me too lol.

ChasingSquirrels · 11/06/2007 22:07

i do freeze bread, although there is none of that left atm either, perhaps I should so a tesco order! I keep thinking of doing milk, but it separates and I never seem to have enough freezer space for 4 pints, suppose I could put 1 pint in there so we always have it, but the dog milk (so called cos we buy it for her - it transpired the other days when ds1 didn't want it that he thought it was dog's milk) is our standby.

KelBelle · 11/06/2007 22:09

Oooo Yukky, that's it I'm not freezing milk if it separates!!!

Phoenix · 11/06/2007 22:09

Righty ho i'm off to bed. After my early wake up call this morning i'm knackered, night all

Flamesparrow · 11/06/2007 22:10

It needs shaking lots when it is defrosted or it all seperates.

Am I mean to snigger at all the list squabbling? We have similar squabbles just different topics.

Jas · 11/06/2007 22:12

I can't bring myself to use frozen milk. It just doesn't seem right.
I buy 12 pints on a Saturday whenI have the car, then at least another 4 every day during the week. Getting it delivered is expensive but I used to get 1 pint a day so I always knew if dp drank itin the night (he gets indigestion) I'd have enough for the girls breakfst, but my mlkman retired and the guy that took over delivered every other day only, at about 10am!
One of dps good points is the frequent phone calls throughout the day, and the fact that he always buys milk on his way homee if I ask.

CS - I did lol at the dogs breakfast.

Kel - I forgot to say earlier, but it does sound like he is trying to pass blame onto you/your friend to ease his own conscience.

csws - no bike ride yet dps friends funeral was today so he's been out at the wake all evening
