Meant to say hi WO, lovely to see you back!

CaptainDippySuperBoobs · 21/05/2007 23:14

Am back - hi guys - Thank you for your sweet msgs - Still in a lot of pain - Have to go and see GP in the morning as they need to monitor my liver function for a couple of weeks ..... Have Anti-B's & painkillers; but am in a lot of pain and finding walking very difficult. Came home to absolute carnage as MIL put DD's to bed for us ... Typical.

Right - should go to bed & try & get some sort of rest ... ....

Absolutely terrfied of how I am going to cope with DD's ....

Bugger.

Octo - Did note what you said about Bumpers - No probs!!

I know it is a little late, but DH's email is bpawley "at" yahoo "dot" com if you would like to send him a Birthday message - Has been a pretty crappy day for him by all accounts & purposes. Poor thing.

A professional photo of me I don't hate, perhaps because it's not really how I look, it's more than a little kind.

I'm glad to say we've now been fully discharged from inpatient care, though we have to return to outpatients' clinic I think we're out of the woods.

I just hope to get back to some breastfeeding and some expressing before my milk really does dry up, but I've been told that bfing wasn't quite as successful in my family as I was led to believe.

elkiedee · 22/05/2007 00:20

Thanks for all the messages. As already said, I didn't have to stay so am very relieved. Danny has gained weight very well since we left hospital, better than at the end of our stay.

There are 3 types of breast pumps.

Manual - I tried one, from Avent, and decided RSI was a serious danger and I wasn't using it.

Battery operated handheld - don't know much more

Electric - I used one at the hospital and found it hard going until Mikey looked into why I seemed to be leaking half the milk all over my skirt and everywhere but in the bottle - I'm also very uneven in flow.

They can be hired via NCT breastpump agents and I have the most expensive kind at £40 a month plus £25 one off payment for personal attachments ie the bits you attach to yourself and which you wouldn't want to share. It sounds a lot but if it works it will be well worth it and if it doesn't I will return it so only the inital £65 will be wasted. Let me know if you need help finding the details - they are on the NCT's website.

The problem is that we haven't yet reestablished our expressing routine since leaving hospital. We sent my dad to collect the pump, and he has kindly signed a direct debit form and refuses to accept payment for the first month and one-off kit from me, though I would have been happy to pay for it having seen how well it can work with effort.

This pump does both sides at once apparently, so if I can get back into it before my supplies dry up, it should be good. Recent expressions at hospital we were managing to get whole feeds and more. I also hope to get in some breastfeeding directly as I do enjoy it when I can get my little monster latched on. But knowing we can at least keep him well on formula if the breastmilk does fail is reassuring.

octo · 22/05/2007 07:21

wcl - yes thurs after half term would be good - what time is good for you? anyone else want to meet up in bristol on 7 june??

liath · 22/05/2007 07:35

Morning !

Crap night here too. Oh well.....it's a sunny morning at least!

Elkiedee, good to hear you're out of hospital and Danny putting on weight well. All the best with expressing.

CD, really hope you're feeling better today - please try and take it easy!

Haven't tried expressing yet. Used a medela pump last time and wore it out as I exclusively expressed from 6 to 12 weeks. Have acquired another courtesy of the lovely oooggs (thank you) but am not sure how well ds will take to a bottle as he has spat out every size and shape of dummy we've tried so far. Seems only boob will do . Much as I am delighted that BF has worked out this time I really hope I can give the odd bottle of EBM and get a break!

Katy44 · 22/05/2007 08:37

Oh no CD
And you're having to deal with your MIL's "help" as well.
Hope you're feeling better soon

Sexonknackeredlegs · 22/05/2007 10:25

Bugger, just typed loads and it has all gone!

Elkie, really glad you are out of hospital.

CD, hope they figure out what is wrong and you are back up and running soon.

Yvie, hope you get some answers from the dermatologist.

Bugmum, so sorry your ds is still reacting so badly to the crying.

Sorry this is rushed, and I haven't mentioned loads of you, but am thinking of you all.

Need to sort the mess that is my house.

xx

CaptainDippySuperBoobs · 22/05/2007 10:28

Morning - Not in as much pain, but still extremely tender & finding it hard to walk ... DH staying home today, which is fab - He has already got DD1 & 2 up, breakfasted, dressed, DD1 off to Pre-School & DD2 down for her nap - He keeps saying that he feels bad cos he hasn't supported me enough and that the reason I have been over doing things is partly his fault .... Bless him. He really is a wonderful father & husband .... I am v.Blessed! So I am staying in my PJs today, damn it!!?

Glad you are home & Danny is gaining weight, Elkie - Great stuff!

How is everyone else today??

I want some Entinox!!!

geordiemacminx · 22/05/2007 10:40

Elkie, glad you are out of hospital and danny is feeding better!

CD, Sorry you are poorly, pleased dh is being a little star!!!

Everything fine here, Charlie decided he didnt want to have a lie in with his mummy this morning - and just to make sure i got the message he was sick in his bed and mine.... and down my pj top just for good measure...nice

Oh and if anyone is interested i'm selling a red wilkinet?

elkiedee · 22/05/2007 10:53

CD, glad to hear you're staying in your pyjamas, I love staying in my nighties as they're so much nicer than my other clothes! I have to get dressed today and probably every other day this week to go out to various appointments or convince certain professionals I'm not depressed. Can't they tell the difference between hospital blues and depression? S'pose not.

CaptainDippySuperBoobs · 22/05/2007 11:01

GMM - Typical, eh!!!? Blimmin' men!!!

Hope you manage to persuade them, Elkie - had soooo many people (professionals) telling me I was depressed with DD2 - Got v.wearing in the end ..... Don't let the buggers grind you down!!

Going to hop back into bed as DH will be home soon! (Feel like a naughty school girl!! )

geordiemacminx · 22/05/2007 11:21

you still about superboobs???

Bugmum · 22/05/2007 11:29

Hi All,
CD - Glad to hear you are home and having a pj day; hope you continue to improve rapidly.

I can't remember if I've already posted this but I was talking to someone who'd had exactly the same problem as I have in regard to her older son's distress at the baby's crying. Same age gap, same sensitivity in the older child. She said it took 8-12 weeks to get bearable (basically once the baby was crying less and some routines were in place), 6 months to get really manageable, and 14 months to get to a place where two was really enjoyable and less trouble than one. I was glad, in a way, to hear such honesty as at least I didn't feel so alone and it was good to hear that her family had come through it.

Elkie - do try to forgive the doctors regarding their worries over PND; it does stop people falling through the net as often as they used to, and people with PND do routinely claim to be well, so the difference isn't always obvious. Also, stress can lead to PND if not properly supported (a concern I have for myself, if I'm honest; not depressed at the moment, but I can see the possibility if I'm not careful). I know it's a pain in the arse, but can you maybe think you are enduring the apparently facile questions and concerns on behalf of someone who will really need them? Glad to hear Danny is doing well

Hope everyone is having a good day,
xx

runnyhabbit · 22/05/2007 12:21

Hi all

One handed here, so excuse please the typos

CD - How awful for you, Please try and rest sweetie x

Ellie - pmsl at that thread

Elkie - glad you're home and Danny is gaining weight.

Would love to join you on the 7th June in Bristol. Are you taking all your dc's or just the new ones?

We started "rapid return" with J last night. Talk about hard work He won't actually sleep unless we stay with him, and thats proving hard if its just me doing the 2 bedtimes. But what really made matters worse last night was he pulled his bedroom door open too quickly and nearly ripped his big toe nail off (sorry if you're having lunch) Couldn't believe how much blood there was. I would've been crying if it happened to me, never mind a little boy, bless him.

Try to catch up properly later (promise!)

Thinking of you all

xx

Sexonknackeredlegs · 22/05/2007 13:10

Hi all. Runny, poor J - what a nightmare. Hope he is ok today. What is Rapid Return??

K has been great today. Thanks for all the comments/tips re reflux. I am not so sure what it is now tbh, and it is definitely not colic which the GP labelled it as.

We have increased the amount we are feeding her to 6 ounces, which seems a hell of a lot for a 4 1/2 week old, but we are not getting the screaming and arching etc. or at least we haven't since increasing the amount. Could be coincidence? She doesn't always take the full amount as she drops off to sleep, and she hasn't puked any back so therefore hasn't overeaten yet! We shall see. I shan't tell the HV how much she is getting as I am sure she will have a go.

Hope everyone is ok and enjoying the beautiful weather.

Need to grab some lunch as all is quiet. Trying to decide whether I can be arsed to take K to the clinic to be weighed. A trip to the shops sounds more exciting!

See you later. x

CaptainDippySuperBoobs · 22/05/2007 13:26

Ewwwwww, gross - P is doing massive poo as she is lying in my arms, looking all innocent & angelic - Bleurgh!!

Hope the 'Rapid Return' (going back to child's bedroom & putting them back in bed everytime they get out) works, runny - It did with my DD1 - Also found putting her to bed earlier (so she was settled earlier, iyswim!!??) helped too. How old is he??

Did you need my GMM?? Sorry I disappeared!

What are people up to?? My pain is subsiding even more, which is good -Though as soon as I start to exert myself in anyway, it twinges - Just to "warn" me ..... Have got mega aching back now too though, pants.......

Bramshott · 22/05/2007 13:42

CD - sorry you're feeling so pants. Hope you feel better soon.

SOKL - glad things are going better with K. Have you though about lying to the GP and saying she's vomiting? We were prescribed Gaviscon for Niamh when she came out of hospital on the basis of 1 impressive vomiting episode, but I never gave it to her because she didn't seem to have any major problems with it so I don't think it was reflux iyswim.

Elkie - lovely photo!

Another bad night here - think it's the cold which is making her fretful and waking more (please God let it be the cold!), so we are back to every 2 hours which is a bit blearry. First set of jabs today too, so I might shovel in the Calpol tonight and see how we go.

GMM - how much do you want for the Wilkinet? I hate my current sling but haven't got roung to doing much research into alternatives yet.

geordiemacminx · 22/05/2007 14:36

CD Was wanting to know how much i shuld express for 1 feed for C, managed to get 3ozin 20 mins, after i split half overcarpet, was just wondering whether this woiuld be enough for a feed or whether i should add to it?

Bramshott - looking for about £25 inc p&p, would wantto sell it to anyone under false pretences though - i couldnt get the hang of it at all, so ended up buying a normal m&p carrier hence the sale

maveta · 22/05/2007 15:10

Afternoon girls!
Yvie - We normally have to get him to drop off in our arms and then move him to the moses basket where he will often, but certainly not always, stay asleep. About once a day we can put him in it awake and he´ll drop off..
Cd - sorry you aren´t well and hope you´re back to fighting fit soon x
Gmm - superboobs IS the one to help you with this but I found with my wee one that even after 4ozs I had to give him 5 mins on the boob to settle him, more to do with the comfort from the breast than hunger??

We went back to the pediatrian today and he says N´s thrush has cleared up.. i am now pretty sure that the pain I have is Raynaud´s Phenomenon as I suspected and the great news there is... there´s no treatment! Great. Well apart from Ibuprofen (!) and warm dry compresses. Anyway, I did get him to refer us to the pediatric surgeon to look at the tongue tie but will have to wait for a date. Think if it is going to be a long wait we will find out what it costs to do privately.

In other news, my lilypadz arrived today so will give them a whirl and see how they go... and Noah slept from 8pm to 3am yesterday! Had a really nice sleepy night feed which makes a lovely change from the hysteria we´ve been having lately and then back to sleep from 4am to 7am! Don´t know what has come over him.. (but not complaining!!)
