Think DH was impressed!

What freaked me out a bit yesterday was when dd asked me for "milk from mummy's boobies" - I have nothing against extended BF but it just seemed WRONG WRONG WRONG . Dd gets her milk from the FRIDGE !!

Hi all, thanks for the messages. Sorry to hear about your health problems Dippy, and others' troubles breastfeeding.

Things are looking up generally here, just been rather busy trying to catch up, and fear that the breast milk may just disappear as the rest of our routine is relentless. I did try to feed baby from my breast at the beginning of several feeds today, but not this evening, and we've unpacked the breast pump but were both falling asleep on the sofa before getting a chance to get it out...

Tomorrow I'm going to go to a bfing drop-in to see if I can seek further advice if it's not too late already, it's very local, my mum is in London and will come and have lunch with us and then she will travel up north and we have an outpatient's appt. I will have a health visitor come round Friday and the community midwife on Saturday.

Then Tuesday is my first day of being home with baby while Mike goes out to work.

I have a post-natal class - 6 weeks of 1 2 hour class a week - starting on 6 June, looking forward to it. And I've arranged to go and visit my stepmother out in Surrey (other side of London to me) on 23 June - it seems like planning far ahead but the next few months already look like shaping up like that. Eileen is the woman my dad was married to from when his divorce papers from my mum came through (I was 2) until he left her, again for someone else, after about 12 years. I have a brother and sister on that side - same dad, Eileen is their mum.

Morning everyone

Sexonknackeredlegs · 24/05/2007 08:23

Morning all.

Hope everyone is tickety boo!

We had an amazing night - sorry for the smugness!

Bathed K at 7.00, fed her at 7.15 and she was asleep in her basket by 8.30. Normally she would have a bottle 3 or 4 hours later which dh does. We brought her up to her room as dh wanted to go to bed. He heard her squaking at about 10.30, so went in changed her nappy and got the bottle ready. But, she was sparko and he couldn't wake her up! So, he put her back in the basket, and she slept until 6.30 a.m.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cannot get over it. Tbh, I was worried that something had happened to her.

Am sure this will not be a regular occurence, but so fab for us to have slept for 8.5 hours!

Apologies - I will go now!

Katy44 · 24/05/2007 08:26

actually we had a pretty good night too, 12 to 7 with one feed at 3
not quite the same though!!

Sexonknackeredlegs · 24/05/2007 08:35

Katy, that is pretty good, as I think your lo is a couple of weeks younger than K. x

Katy44 · 24/05/2007 08:42

Well I'll be expecting my 8.5 hours in a couple of weeks then, and if I don't get it I will be having words!

Just had text from friend - her dp has called the wedding off

Never met him, so don't feel I can comment on him (obv he is a complete arsehole for putting her through this though) but feel so gutted for my friend

Katy44 · 24/05/2007 10:31

Oh no! When was the wedding meant to be?
This happened to some friends of mine last year - it's awful, but in a way, better than going through with the wedding when you know it;s not right. Hope she's OK.

runnyhabbit · 24/05/2007 10:46

He called it off Tuesday night, they were meant to be getting married on 30th June

In one respect, I actually think he's done a very brave thing, calling it off if he's not totally sure about it.

geordiemacminx · 24/05/2007 11:37

i called off my weddinbg with 3 months to go.....lost somewhere in the region of 5k...oooops

LesleyR · 24/05/2007 12:06

Morning

Wasn't on at all yesterday, so haven't caught up. Hope you are all well and those with poorly DCs are coping okay.

George seems to have discovered his ability to screeeeam. We had two 2hr (non-stop) sessions yesterday. After trying everything else went for 2 enormous walks with him in sling as this seemed to calm him.

On the positive side he's slept for a 5hr stretch during the last 2 nights, which is lovely after him waking every 2/3 hrs before. hope this a step towards sleeping through. Ooh it would be bliss!

Friend coming over from Manchester with her 2 ds this afternoon. They are 2 and 4. We were thinking of a picnic but the weather is a bit pants. Now considering pony sanctuary or tropical world.

Enjoy your day [smile}

LesleyR · 24/05/2007 12:07

even!

Bramshott · 24/05/2007 12:19

Hi all! Not much to say, or much time or brain to say it but just popping in!

We are not in anything that resembles a routine, with much napping in room going on, or bedtime either. Am trying just to go with the flow until 12 weeks for maximum sanity! Mind you, 12 weeks is only just over 3 weeks away now so I can't keep putting it all off for ever! Tried to put Orla down in her moses basket just now, she yelled for about 10 mins and then when I went in gave me a real "mummy you left me" look! Now sleeping peacefully across my lap ! As EM said - why?!?!? I guess they just like to be close to us when they're small - they'll be shrugging off the cuddles soon enough!

Feeling really pleased this morning as I may have found a childminder who lives in our village (this is very exciting as the village is tiny) - I'm really, really hoping it works out, but I'm not going to see her until after half term. Oh it would be so perfect if it worked out

Night not too bad (why do I feel the need to come on here and give a post-mortem on my night?!? Probably because no-one in RL cares!) - fed at 10.00, 3.30 and 7.00, but unsettled in between and I woke up with her asleep on top of me at 11.30 and 5.30! Much snuffling and dinosaur-grunting as well!

Had another abortive attempt at putting her down in the evening last night - she was tired at the end of the afternoon as we'd had a busy day, so I bathed her at 6.30, fed her while DD1 was in the bath, then rocked her while doing DD1 stories, but when I tried to put her down at 7.30, she wouldn't settle. I know she was knackered as she kept going quiet, and every time I went up she looked exhausted, but we gave in at 8.30 and brought her back down - mainly so she wouldn't disturb DD1 as she was knackered too and really needed her sleep. I think maybe I'm relaxing about bedtime until 12 weeks too . . .

Emmymummy · 24/05/2007 12:30

Hello. Am persevering with 'proper' daytime nap here today - cue much screaming, but at the moment all is quiet.....(EM touches wood, crosses fingers etc etc.) I really need her to sleep at lunch time as I really need a moment to myself to eat lunch, sort house, go to loo etc., so am really going to stick with this. Half term starts tomorrow, so I have all of next week with no school runs to bugger things up, am hoping we'll have cracked it by the end of next week.

We're still a long way away from S sleeping through the night, so I do need a stretch of time during the day where I can catch up and have a nap myself.

I'm also feeling the urge to do some exercise. Not running though. Am planning to go swimming at the w/e as it's the one thing I'm good at and doesn't put any strain on the joints etc. Only problem is looking like a whale in a swimming cossie, but hell, it's not a fashion parade is it?

Bugmum · 24/05/2007 13:26

Quick post for liath:
I remember when DS1 was about 8 weeks or so, and he paused in his feeding, slipped off my boob to give me a big grin of pleasure, then popped himself back on. This from Mr Colicky Screech Baby who'd had to be fed pretty much constantly up to that moment. He still screamed for another few weeks, but it was a turning point. And by then, not at all painful. HTH.

NB - After my doing the Okey Cokey while bfing a couple of weeks ago, I have repeated this twice so far. Today, a friend asked me if next week I was going to play Twister Does that count as it being bonding to bf, or are we calling it necessity being the mother of invention? (ie the mother of a toddler...)

xx

liath · 24/05/2007 13:48

Cheers Bugmum! Just need a bit of encouragement at the moment as had a bad few days with ds coming off umpteen time every feed but seems to be related to fast let-down and hopefully have some strategies to combat it. It's just that every time I think I cracked it, something else happens and I'm strgggling a bit again. However, ds piling on weight so will keep going and I WILL enjoy it sometime !!

mammyjo · 24/05/2007 14:16

Hello all! Liath, I am still BF and Ffion is now 8 weeks and I have to say that it is now a breeze. I feel extremely proud of myself for doing it too as things did not turn out this way with ds. Sometimes she will start smiling at me just before latching too which is quite amusing! It is not in the slightest bit painful, I dont get engorged (full in the morning but soon sorted once she feeds again), and despite a fast let down on one side she seems to have learned to cope with it. All in all I am enjoying the feeding, and even more so the fact that I dont have to wash bottles etc as basically I am too damn lazy! It definitely does get better!!

mammyjo · 24/05/2007 15:57

Cant quite manage the hokey cokey like bugmum but did manage to get off sofa, go to fridge, get yogurt for ds and sit back down whilst feeding Ffion. She did give me a funny look, but it didnt stop her sucking away! Would never have done that with ds!

SOKL, glad you had a good night with K. F seems to either sleep through from around half ten til six or she just wakes once around 4am which is not a big deal at all. The miracle blanket was definitely a winner in this house!

mammyjo · 24/05/2007 16:12

I was just looking back on our very first thread. I started that thread on July 23rd last year! I cant believe so much time has gone by and we all now have our babies. Pretty sure that I wont plan to have any more now (although you can never say never). Was talking about contraception with dh and he categorically said he would not have the snip! Guess its down to me then (again). Anyone else sorting this too? I was thinking about the implant thing that you can get in your arm. I like the idea of not having to remember to take a pill every day, but dont fancy the idea of a coil. Dont know whether its an option when BF though so will have to go to GP to find out.

liath · 24/05/2007 16:53

Was wondering about the implant, too mammyjo as it's OK for BF but a lot of people bleed on it. Will probably go for minipill first then maybe mirena coil. DH happy to get a vasectomy but it seems too final....

Am impressed by people managing to do things at the same time as feeding, wow!! Have expressed today so will see what ds makes of the bottle tonight .

mammyjo · 24/05/2007 18:27

Know what you mean about it being too final, I dont honestly think I would have any more children but in a couple of years who knows? Not sure I like the idea of a coil although my friend has one and seems to get on with it.
