Hi!

Any mums out there with April newborns? If there is already a group going please point me in the right direction!

I’m a first time mum with a 2 week old little girl Smile looking for some people to chat to with similar aged babies!

@forestftm I have a baby K'tan - it's great. Although bending down tasks isn't easy with it. But other than than I recommend carrying

yustynne · 06/06/2018 19:15

I also found my LO Red Book and read about vaccinations and paracetamol recommendations. I'll see what the doctor is going to advise on Friday.

Sam it is still possible to go to the breastfeeding support groups. I've been only once there last week. In fact, my baby was one of the youngest attending. Most of other mums were with their six to nine months old babies. It was not what I expected. I thought I'd see a specialist who comes to the group to help breastfeeding mums in case there are any issues but there was no specialist.

forestftm I was also thinking of getting a baby carrier and doing some research of which one to go for. I'm really confused.

amysaurus87 · 06/06/2018 20:12

I've been thinking of getting a carrier as well, as my little boy gets so fussy sometimes, there is a sling library sort of near me where I can try them and hire them, before buying one.

Went to baby soft play today as my HV recommended it might help with my PND, it felt good to be around other mums and my little one seemed to have fun despite falling asleep!

Got him weighed today, he's now 4.68 kilos! So is gaining weight very nicely. Makes me feel a lot more relieved a) that he's getting enough milk from me and b) that despite him bringing up feeds it's not enough to cause weight gain issues.

His sleeping is slowly (^very slowly^) getting better, and I'm getting around 5ish hours a night, meaning I feel like a new person!

amysaurus87 · 07/06/2018 14:55

Random question...what do you dress your little ones in during the day?

My little boy is in a vest and all in one baby grow. A random lady stopped me in the shops and said I should be dressing him in proper outfits and not all on ones as these are for bed and that he won't understand night from day if he's in his bed clothes all day.

He has a clean vest and all in one every day so it's not like he's in the same clothes all night and day.

forestftm · 07/06/2018 15:24

@amysaurus87 our LO is in vests and all in ones day and night.
Obviously clean everyday and changed at night for bedtime.
Also depending on the weather/temperature.

He's got some "posh" outfits, but only a couple and have worn those out for family meal etc.

At this age I really don't think it matters

amysaurus87 · 07/06/2018 16:42

Thanks @forest that's what I thought! My little one is 7 weeks old and I figured it's easier and probably more comfortable for him to be in the all in ones!

Why do some people feel the need to comment!

LivLemler · 07/06/2018 18:40

DD lives in babygros. No vest ATM cos of the weather. I've put her in property outfits twice, cos they were cooler. Only lasted a couple of hours each, too much faff! She's happier in a babygro with no waist band or top riding up etc.

Can't believe a randomer said that to you!

Sam91TRS15 · 07/06/2018 19:36

Oh @amysaurus87 that was a ridiculous thing for them to say! I used to do outfits with my daughter but they were a faff and she would always throw up on them so several changes a day. Jake is in sleepsuits or vests and soft jogger trousers and rarely an outfit change is needed! Comfort is what they need and they will not get confused about nighttime because of it!

ClareB83 · 07/06/2018 20:27

My boys are in vests and sleepsuits all the time too. They're comfy and practical. That randomer was rude and daft.

Astrid2 · 07/06/2018 22:33

Aw I love picking an outfit for my DD every day. Just simple leggings and tshirts usually, but she has some lovely dresses and jump suits, tights and little knickers! Don't find them too much of a faff really.

However baby doesn't care what she's dressed in, it's just for my benefit that I dress her up! As long as you are getting them up and changed in the morning and changed ready for bed, that's all that matters. I can't believe random people actually comment to people like this. A gaggle of old ladies commented yesterday that my baby wouldn't sleep at night because she had been napping in her buggy while we had coffee! We'd only been there an hour, it was half 2 in the afternoon and she's only 8 weeks old Shock just ignore!

Allioli · 08/06/2018 19:32

My little girl is always in sleepsuits why would they be in anything else?? I tried a simple dress and leggings and it was such a faff and she weed on it anyway so ended up in a sleep suit. SHes comfiest and happiest in them and you can do with/without best depending on the weather plus the scratch mitts built in are great!

Allioli · 08/06/2018 19:34

Sorry Astrid, I totally agree I love picking out outfits and there are some gorgeous baby clothes. I think I’m just too impatient haha! And my LO has a habit of weeing every time I take her nappy off so for me sleepsuits work best

Aspenn17 · 08/06/2018 23:13

My LO is in onsies 80% of the time, so much easier to change her nappies and I like the built in scratch mits too as she is always rubbing her face. I put her in leggings and dresses sometimes when we are going to visit grandparents/friends. That lady just sounds rude! It’s totally up to you what you chose to dress your child in!

DD has been really colicy and unhappy in the evening the past few days, wondering if it could be my antibiotics upsetting her tummy so I’ve been naughty and stopped taking them to see if it helps. Bizarrely though once we’ve actually got her down she’s slept 12-6 for 2 nights straight!! I think all the crying must be tiring her out.

I was on antibiotics for a wound infection early on Aspenn and DD was a demon baby. Took the same ones again a few weeks later for mastitis and she was fine!

yustynne · 09/06/2018 09:53

My DD had her jabs yesterday. Oh, she was one unhappy baby! Poor her, in the beginning she smiled to every nurse but after the needles the smiles were changed by a constant cry and stress. Despite giving 3 doses of Calpol, she peaked the temperature last evening and it is running till now. Hope it will not stay for long! Anybody else went for their jabs?

amysaurus87 · 09/06/2018 11:20

My little boy has his in a week or so, he'll be 9 weeks old by then! Dreading it. He's in the middle of a development leap at the moment and he is super fussy all the time, so god knows what he will be like with jabs!

forestftm · 10/06/2018 19:56

I'm sure we all get days like this ... but LO is driving me mad today 🙈

It's hot, he's unsettled, tired and crying more than normal.

Just gotta ride the wave and hope that tomorrow is a better day 🤞🏻

amysaurus87 · 10/06/2018 20:10

@forest mine has been the same today, short feeds every 2 hours, refusing to sleep, screaming in between.

I'm exhausted!

yustynne · 10/06/2018 20:59

Mine is also very unsettled today but I put it down to her jabs and temperature she had. It's so exhausting! Also one of my breasts started hurting and became like a stone on one side, close to areola I can feel a tiny lump. I'm afraid it will develop into mastitis. I know some of you had it, what kind of symptoms did you experience?

amysaurus87 · 10/06/2018 21:07

@yustynne I had mastitis, I had no obvious symptoms other than a really high temperature and a fever. I had no lump until I was in hospital, I know this for a fact as I saw a breast feeding specialist on the Friday (was admitted Sunday) and there was nothing. Once I found the lump, the area around it was red, warm to the touch and pretty sore!

It will hurt but you need to keep feeding it's the only way to clear the blockage, If you put a warm flannel on the area, massage it and then feed your little one, it should clear and if you can massage the lump whilst feeding, just do like circular motions going in towards the nipple if that makes sense.

You should also see your GP in case you need antibiotics.

forestftm · 10/06/2018 21:38

@yustynne I had a couple of blocked ducts when I was pumping - warm showers and gentle massage helped, massage towards the nipple and it'll help unblock. Hope it doesn't develop into anything else

@amysaurus87 our LO's sound very similar. I'm feeling exhausted as well.

He's now fast asleep and I have the do I don't I wake him dilemma as he is due a feed but he hasn't slept all day lol

ClareB83 · 10/06/2018 22:21

My younger twin has been difficult most of the day today too. His older bro just had a bad couple of hours.

Bit frustrating as they were so good at my mums this weekend.

amysaurus87 · 10/06/2018 22:30

@forest I've been told to never wake a sleeping baby. As long as your little one is gaining weight nicely then he will let you know when he's hungry!

My little one has finally settled, but that's probably because we are in a car!

Allioli · 10/06/2018 23:08

Hope you are all doing ok, my LO has jabs on Thursday and it was awful. Like you yust one very unhappy baby despite calpol very high temp ran for nearly 48 hours and screamed all night Sad

Exactly like what you said about the smiling! She was flirting with all the nurses for her 8 week check then just went totally off after her jabs.

Also struggling with the heat I want to take her out but she’s so unsettled and grumpy!

Aspenn17 · 14/06/2018 17:22

Just got home after my retained placenta op. All went well and not in much pain, just period type cramps and a bit groggy from the general. Was told they noticed I have a weakend vaginal wall and my bladder is prolapsing into it a bit so I have to be referred for physio. Feeling very fed up tbh. I had such a simple pregnancy and it feels like the delivery and everything since has been so tough. Obv my baby girl is worth everything but I’m scared what it will be like with a 2nd baby and that my sex life might be over at 28 and my body is just ruined in general 😥 anyone else had anything similar?

Baby girl had her jabs yday, cried all afternoon and hasn’t been as smiley as normal today but no temp, I felt bad leaving her for hospital this morning but she had a nice day with her daddy.
