Hi!

Any mums out there with April newborns? If there is already a group going please point me in the right direction!

I’m a first time mum with a 2 week old little girl Smile looking for some people to chat to with similar aged babies!

@Aspenn17 I'm glad LO is gaining weight - even a little at a time is great! Nighttime's we just use vest or sleep suit on their own and a blanket or swaddle. As long as baby seems ok they will be!
@amysaurus87 Jake wouldn't feed off the right side for a long time so it was weaker, once I got him on I would just double feed on that side and it soon started to build up a decent amount and now seems to be the fave side. Have you tried doing that?
@Allioli hi Smile mat leave can be quite isolating, hopefully you can meet some new mums soon and until then it's nice to chat on here

Allioli · 31/05/2018 23:49

Thank Sam Smile I’ll get myself out to some groups and keep on MN!

Aspenn17 · 01/06/2018 05:31

HV 6 weeks visit a couple of days ago, baby is still gaining but too slowly and has fallen on the curve again so we’ve started topping her up a little with formula. I just don’t know what’s going wrong as she appears to be feeeding lots and for a decent amount of time, starting to think my milk might not be fatty enough.

GP thinks I may have some retained placenta so I have to go have a scan this morning and cart the LO all the way to the hospital on my own as DH is working and no family nearby. Really hope she doesn’t kick off!!

Aspen, how much is she gaining? My health visitor is happy with breastfed babies gaining 5-8oz a week. DD has been gaining about 6oz so health visitor is happy even though she's dropping down the centiles. I think the growth charts are for formula fed babies who tend to gain more weight and gain it more steadily.

Also, retained placenta can affect supply so you may find things easier once that's sorted?

Hope everyone and their little ones are doing well!

Got my 6week check today..any idea what I should expect to happen?

Allioli · 04/06/2018 15:50

It depends if you have an appointment just for you or to check you and LO? My 6 week check was very quick, dr checked my scar and asked if I had my period yet which I hadnt and that was it! I have the 8 week check for little one coming up so hopefully the jabs are over and done quickly!

On the last weigh in for her she hadnt gained anything but hadn’t lost anything... she’s formula fed but awake more in the day so could be using up more energy? I’m a little worried but she hasnt lost weight, does this sound normal?

amysaurus87 · 04/06/2018 16:25

Just got back, checked my blood pressure, checked my scar and asked if I'd had my period, which despite breastfeeding looks like the answer is yes...

Also had a chat about I'm feeling now as it's been 2 weeks since I was diagnosed with PND, need to go back in a month.

Aspenn17 · 05/06/2018 04:30

@livlemler I had no idea retained placenta could effect supply! That explains a lot. our HVs do it in grams annoyingly but I converted it...

Day 14- 8lb 2 (birth weight)
Day 21- 8lb
Day 28- 8lb 2
Day 35- 8lb 5

So in the right direction now but not enough really. She’s a very happy and content baby so HV says she might just have a small appetite but we’ve been topping her up with formula this week and I’ve been pumping more so I can see actually how much she is getting and I definitely think it’s working as her cheeks are def chunkier! Getting her weighed again tomorrow so fingers crossed. The scan showed that I do have retained placenta so having a little procedure next Thursday so we’ll see if that helps things. Also explains why I’m still bleeding and my tummy still looks so pregnant!

Hope everyone is having a good week. Has anyone got their 8 week injections coming up soon? x

I see you're also having fun on the night feed @Aspenn17! DD supposed to be back snoozing in her crib by now but it seems she didn't get that memo.

Sounds like your little one is doing great, it's amazing when you can see them growing before your eyes, isn't it? I keep putting DD down without enough leg room in the crib and pram! I hope getting the retained placenta sorted does make things easier. What a pain to have to add that palaver to proceedings!

First vaccinations next Monday. I'll be ok when she gets the actual jabs, hard hearted mummy that I am. But I'm dreading the aftermath.

forestftm · 05/06/2018 07:54

LO is due his vaccinations at the end of next week - cannot believe he will be 2 months already!

Going to call doctors today and book in for my post natal check up and for his vaccinations.

Our LO is such a fidget, he is constantly on the move, arms and legs everywhere, even when is he asleep.

Is anyone else's baby like this?
First of all I thought maybe he had colic but he doesn't appear to be in pain etc

Allioli · 05/06/2018 08:24

Forest my little girl is the same panting and waving every limb when awake or asleep, not 24/7 but a lot! The HV tried tummy time and I reckon it won’t be long til she’s scooting off haha

forestftm · 05/06/2018 09:03

@Allioli I think the same about our LO!

He doesn't like tummy time though, screams the place down when we try it 🙈

Sam91TRS15 · 05/06/2018 10:11

@forestftm my wee one is moving constantly too (but not when sleeping) I think it's that they now want to be on the move but physically can't do it.

We had jabs last Thursday, the oral stuff was fine, jabs he screamed but didn't take too long to settle. The worst was when the first lot of paracetamol wore off so I fed recommend going for the 4 hour repeat of medicine and not any later.

amysaurus87 · 05/06/2018 11:02

My little one has his jabs in 2 weeks, despite the fact he'll be 9 weeks old by then, I'm guessing that's ok?

Dreading it really, he was so unsettled after his BCG, he screamed for ages.

yustynne · 05/06/2018 21:31

Hope you're all fine. My LO is going for her jabs this Friday, don't know what to expect. By the way, DD is also moving her hands and legs a lot and start screaming a bit while asleep. Daytime she only sleeps 5 min at a time as she keeps beating herself with hands. For that reason, I always swaddle her at night and I believe it's the only way she would sleep. I wouldn't even dare to leave her unswaddled. For how long can the babies can swaddled? She is going to be 2 months this week.

Aspenn17 · 06/06/2018 05:10

@livlemler thank you! Hoping it improves things and we can then stop topping up with formula but we’ll see! Feel a bit annoyed they didn’t just scan me at the hospital as there was some debate between the midwives about whether my placenta was complete right after she was born.

And yes always checking mumsnet during the night feed! 😬

@yustynne my baby is the same, she is so wiggly and she rubs her face a lot so we always swaddle her at night otherwise she just wakes herself up. I think you’re ok to swaddle until they can roll as then it become dangerous but I’m not 100% sure.

We have jabs on Tuesday! What do I need to get, baby calpol?? My op is 2 days after so really hoping she is ok by then. It’s only a day procedure and i know she will be ok with her dad but I will feel awful leaving her for the day if she is poorly!

Fancy seeing you here again Aspenn Grin

DD constantly moves in her sleep. Drives me mad. Tried swaddling her but she didn't love it. Plus she has silent reflux and needs a lot of time upright after every feed so it's not very practical for us.

yustynne · 06/06/2018 05:37

Here is the same night feed going on!Smile

Aspenn I also don't know if I need to have any baby meds at home after her jabs as I have none at the moment.
And yeah, she already manages to roll on her belly while swaddled in the basket and can't then return to a previous position so starts moaning. I'm afraid when swaddle times have to finish will be no night sleep for anybody.

Astrid2 · 06/06/2018 06:32

Hi everyone, just found this thread!

My DD is 2 months old today. She is a good baby, and sleeps well at night overall. Also doing the early morning feed and hoping she's drops off again til at least 8!

She had her imms last Friday. In my trust they advice 3 doses of calpol in the 8 hours after the injections as the Men B one can cause fevers. We have a dose immediately after then in 4 hours then another 4 hours. She still spiked a temp of 38'! She was really sleepy and napped a lot that day, fine over night then a little fussy on the Saturday but coped really well over all. It's awful when they scream tho. 3 injections is a lot for them bless!

forestftm · 06/06/2018 07:54

The little red book recommends 3 doses of calpol after the 8 week and 16 week vaccinations.

LO is constantly on the go, and rarely sleeps more than 20 minutes at a time during the day, making it difficult to do very much.

He also has these outbursts of crying fits and nothing I do seems to settle him. I go through the checklist of hungry, nappy, hot/cold, wind etc but most of the time there doesn't seem to be any reason for his crying and he just settles himself after 10-15 minutes.

yustynne · 06/06/2018 12:37

I bet I have to stock up on calpol before her jabs then!

forestftm my LO cries all the time. She stays settled for about 10 min after her feeds and then cries start. Nappies are changed, she is winded but nothing helps and she would not settle by herself. The only way is to give her a dummy and hold it for her so she wouldn't spit it out and wait for the next feed. That's really hard as I can't get anything done around the house.

My LO is still very fussy on the breast. Sometimes I have to latch her on so many times. She makes that clicking noise that means the latch is not good and also doesn't seal properly so milk leaks down her cheek and down my breast while she is on it. I went to the breastfeeding support group seeking help but they are not specialists there so they could only advise. The latch seemed to be good but she would still slip off the breast. Hope she will get better with time as I have no solution. Maybe she is in the middle of a leap.

Sam91TRS15 · 06/06/2018 13:04

@yustynne they only allow 2 doses after their initial dose at the time of injections. After that you can't use paracetamol until they are 3 months old. They told me if a fever persisted after the 3 overall doses to go to the doctor and not use anymore medicine.
Jake can be fussy also, I have to kinda hold on to my breast go keep him latched on. Might just be a phase as usually he is fine. I haven't had any issues really with breastfeeding, but is it still ok to go to the support groups?

forestftm · 06/06/2018 14:53

@yustynne sounds very similar to my LO, only happy if he is asleep on me.

Makes getting anything done a nightmare, and is a little frustrating, but hoping things will improve as he gets older.

I've contemplating getting one of those baby slings so that he can be close to me but I can move around and do a few jobs.

Has anyone else got one? Or used one?
