Not sure if a thread exists already. If so, point me in the right direction.
Here's a place to celebrate our bundles of joy and find support for everything from stitches to breastfeeding, partners and sleep and anything else we may come across in the early days to challenge us!

Meant to say, the sling also helps them get the wind up as they're a lot calmer once in there. X

MrsL2016 · 21/04/2018 21:13

Trapped wind is the worst. I posted earlier in the thread that we moved from infacol to dentinox and that has made a huge difference for us. Burping for a long time and trying to keep baby upright for a period of time after feeding. Also if baby has been really unsettled and not had good stretch of sleep all day then overtiredness could be the reason for being so upset. My DS is terrible for waking himself up and then getting really crabby and not going back to sleep without lots of soothing. We have started swaddling and it has really made a difference as he he doesn't flail his arms and legs and wake himself.

Smurf123 · 21/04/2018 21:18

He doesn't have a temperature it is coming back at 36 degrees. He does have a heat rash and thrush bit he has had these for a few days.
He has sort of settled now, he is currently lying on my chest with his feet tuckef up to his /my chest.
I don't think constipation so much as it is soft/liquidy when he did finally go last light and earlier although earlier today only seemed like a small amount compared to what he has been doing up to now and likewise it is just a huge change in pattern as up to yesterday he had been going 3-4 times a day sometimes more.
I these tried the bicycle legs and they did get some wind out. The cooled boiled water also seemed to allow him to shift some wind it just didn't give much relief for him.
Thanks @Vickylou78 I will try the other things also. I almost called out of hours yesterday but just as I got ready to he had all of a sudden calmed and did the dirty nappy and he did have a good night smelling / feeding wise. I kept thinking he just needed to do the same today.
Hi @HalfStar sorry you are also pacing up and down with your little one. Unfortunately I don't have a sling, ds was too small for one when he was born I think - the ones I saw in mothercare seemed to say from 7 or 8lbs. We only reached 8lbs last chat (13th April) and we haven't got round to getting one yet.. As we really haven't a clue what to get /look for. We are due to try our local sling library but it doesn't meet until next Saturday.
I can definitely feel his tummy rumbling or gurgling at times. Currently thinking I will just sit perfectly still for as long as he is happy sleeping like this just to let him get the rest., although worry it isn't good for him or particularly comfortable but it's the only time he has stopped fussy and crying.
Thank you both for your kind words. Finding tonight very difficult just feel like I'm on the verge of tears.
It doesn't help that either my post partum bleeding has picked up again with some cramps or my period has started (although ebf so they say it shouldn't have)

Smurf123 · 21/04/2018 21:21

Thanks @MrsL2016 we have a gro bag with the option for arms in with poppers to close the top or arms out so might try with arms in and he definitely seemed to be waking himself up today by startling himself in his sleep and throwing his arms out.

Smurf123 · 21/04/2018 21:22

I haven't seen dentinox, can you get it just in the shops? Like tesco or does it have to be a chemist?

Vickylou78 · 21/04/2018 21:41

I agree with MrsL2016 that his unsettledness, as well as maybe being trapped wind, could be overtiredness as well. Tiredness can make a massive difference to how well they will settle if they’ve been awake too long (as I learnt with my dd1) and if he’s had a few disturbed naps he may be really tired so needs more help to settle. I would think he’s really comfy curled up on your chest! Definitely keep him there and get someone to bring you drinks while you cuddle!

Hope he settles better tonight x good luck!

MrsL2016 · 21/04/2018 21:50

I having been buying mine from Asda and they have it in Boots too I think. I have read that dirty nappies can become less frequent as they age. We definitely have less now than a few weeks ago, but we have gone from mostly breastfeeding to mostly formula now, so that has had an effect too I think. We had a few days here were DS would only settle on his front on me and with his legs curled under him. If you are happy to sit for a while and let them get some sleep then at least it is a bit of a break from crying and having an uncomfortable baby. I feel so helpless when he has trapped wind we can't get up, such a horrible feeling.

www.babycentre.co.uk/a551926/your-babys-poo-whats-normal-and-whats-not

See link above @smurf123 as apparently after a few weeks bf babies may only poo once every few days or sometimes only a week. So don’t panic.

HalfStar · 21/04/2018 22:12

Yes it's so true about over tiredness ! I've missed the nap boat a few times today with dd and she just goes from 0 to totally inconsolable and wired.

I have a Kari Me sling. It should be fine for an 8lb baby. It's a bit naff looking but i genuinely couldn't live without it now. On my 3rd baby and it works so well to calm them right down. It also doesn't hurt your back or shoulders. Though tying it quickly while the baby screams can be stressful! Any sling would help you though smurf.

It's also normal to feel tearful. I did earlier too even though i know it is a phase. why wouldn't you feel crap after all when you're being screeched at most of the day despite all efforts!

GWeatherwax · 22/04/2018 04:30

Also agree with the overtiredness as a contributing grumpy factor. Twice yesterday daytime DS was mega unsettled but hadn't slept for hours! Was at my DM house last night and he just wouldn't sleep, by the time we got home he'd been awake for at least 6 hours. Asleep quickly by 2230 and he's only just woken up at 0400, he must have been absolutely shattered.

The infacol and formula change seem to be helping, tried dentinox but he hated it. Still hear and feel the wind gurgling around after whatever burps we can coax out, just have to wait until they come out the other end (often it's not a poop, but a huge fart he's needing that's upsetting him!)

I put him in the sling yesterday at one point when he wouldn't sleep, took a bit of pacing but did the trick. They're great! I've a caboo but haven't worked it out yet, been using the one in the baby box.

Tearful? Fuck yes. When your wee one is screaming at you for hours it can break you, as the health visitor is constantly reminding me.. that sleeping position should be fine for him though, that's usually the only way DS will fall asleep on us with his sore tummy.

Smurf123 · 22/04/2018 05:31

Thank you all. It is lovely to be able to talk about it and get tips from others who have been there or having the same feelings!
I do think overtiredness is a big factor also as he definitely hasn't slept great during the day the past couple of days - only for max of about 30 mins st a time, which isn't really long enough. He did settle on my chest and I was then able to transfer him to his moses basket without him really waking up (shows he was tired as this never happens) so he slept from around 9 -1 fed then slept until 5. He did wake with a cry around 2ish but was relatively easily soothed back to sleep after a burp and a fart.
He is squirming about a bit with wind now while lying on my chest but at least so far not screaming. Hoping to get him settled and back to bed for another couple of hours.
I will definitely look for a sling, at least if I could hold him in this position and still move about and do stuff it would help me not be so confined to the sofa!

blinkineckmum · 22/04/2018 07:19

Some great advice and support here! GWeatherwax and Smurf, sounds like you had good nights in the end! We had 3 hour sleep, 2 awake and 2 asleep. My best for 4 nights, as the previous 3 she'd bern up every hour!
Can't help with the trapped wind. I've been very lucky on that front with all 3 of mine. She's very content (as long as she's held!).
We have a stretchy sling for the early days... so nice and close but a pain to tie. And an Ergo with newborn insert. I keep this in the car. It's amazing and can be used up to 4 years!

Can i just share a cute moment...dd is here munching away on my boob. Realised she was staring at me intently so said to her 'hello cutie!' And she gave me a giant grin still with my boob in her mouth. Very cute, I'll have to remember that when she starts her evening screamfest!

blinkineckmum · 24/04/2018 18:14

How lovely HalfStar! There will be many more of those precious first moments to come!

@halfstar that’s cute. Can’t wait for our first smile, will be worth all this trouble and sleep deprivation!

Lavenderdays · 25/04/2018 15:30

Hi Joining you from the March pregnancy thread if that's O.K.

Little Elizabeth born 21/03/18, 9lb6.

DD has experienced wind issues also. Swopped from infacol to dentinox and have found dentinox so much better...we are all getting slightly better sleep these days (don't want to speak too soon) but it seems to have made a difference.

Anyone else here, recovering from a C-section? I'm at the 5 week point now and unsure what I should and shouldn't be doing. Midwife was meant to pop in today and was going to ask her to check my scar as I'm not sure what is normal and what is not. 6 week check week after next.

Clevs · 25/04/2018 21:07

@Lavenderdays

I had an emergency C-Section three weeks ago. I was told not to lift or drive for 6 weeks, although I may be able to drive sooner if I feel capable of doing an emergency stop and my insurance company ok it.

My stomach is still sore and a bit bruised. The scar is still quite red and was starting to look a bit gunky at one end but I've had some recent antibiotics for a UTI which seems to have sorted that out.

I've been out for a few short walks recently and know about it when I get home so I'm trying to be careful not to overdo things.

GWeatherwax · 25/04/2018 22:17

Hi @Lavenderdays my son was born the same day as your daughter and I also had a section. Feel like you, almost looking forward to trying some real exercise but after pushing him up some hills on Monday I know I'll have to be very careful.

Do you administer the dentinox via syringe? Did it take her a while to get used to it?

Aaaw yay for everyone getting smiles Smile they're just the best !

GWeatherwax · 26/04/2018 08:56

Also if anyone uses myfitnesspal and wants a friend DM me your username Smile

Lavenderdays · 26/04/2018 13:48

Thanks for your feedback re C-sections. Pleased to be out and about but realise many things like pushing push chair up hill/down hill is off limit at the moment. Scar looks O.K apart from one end...which doesn't look infected as such just more redness but will get it checked out on Monday.

The dentinox seemed to help pretty quickly although dd still does suffer some wind, it does make a difference...yes I administer with a syringe...little dd likes to spit it back out!

Vickylou78 · 27/04/2018 10:11

How are all you ladies? Hope everyone is ok. My little girl was 3 weeks yesterday, she’s doing really nicely and doesnt cry much. Sleep isn’t too bad as normally getting a good 3hr stretch and after a night feed another 2hr-2.5hr stretch of sleep before is time to get up. So about 5hrs sleep so could definitely do with more but coping ok so far!

I’m still struggling with juggling my time between baby and my dd1 (3.5yrs) but hoping that will be easier once we are more in a routine during day, still on demand so pretty random at the moment.

Baby acne has arrived! Poor wee thing not looking her best!

How is everyone else doing?

HazyDays81 · 27/04/2018 10:56

Hi all, I’ve been following the thread but not got round to posting for a while. I had the ‘baby blues’ for a few weeks but thankfully it seems to have passed now.

Vickylou78 baby acne has also arrived here! DS had such beautiful clear skin & is now covered. I remember my other two had it but can’t remember how long it lasted. DS is just over 4 weeks & I don’t want to jinx it but breast-feeding & sleeping going really well. The last few days he’s been managing to go 4 hours in the night which makes such a difference.

Looking out for that first smile Smile

Vickylou78 · 27/04/2018 12:33

@hazydays81 sorry you’ve been feeling a bit blue. Ruddy hormones hey? And also don’t forget your body is recovering from pregnancy and birth and adjusting to sleep deprivation. Hopefully your through the worst now.

I think the baby acne only lasts about 3-4 weeks so he’ll soon be picture perfect again!

Lavenderdays · 27/04/2018 12:35

Yes, another baby dd here (5 weeks) with baby acne...sorry for all babies experiencing this but glad that my little dd is not alone...hoping it will clear up soon...apparently, it goes after a few weeks.

HalfStar · 28/04/2018 21:12

Dd had terrible baby acne at 5 weeks but she is 7 weeks now and it's almost all gone. Poor things!

How are you all doing? 7 weeks here and finding it quite gruelling, last 2 days she's hardly napped much at all. It's sling or bust at the minute, she doesn't really fall asleep feeding much as always needs to wake to burp. Pram works for 20 mins IF I put her in while she's already asleep. If not she will howl for the whole walk.

I did manage to shower dd2 earlier on though while dd3 was awake on her mat and she didnt freak out...small successes eh Brew
