Babies born July/August 04

Hello everyone. My DS2 was born on July 4th and I have been waiting for a "Babies born in July" thread since then, but none has appeared! (at least I don't think it has). So I thought I should start one, I didn't have Mumsnet for DS1 and I wish I had. I thought it should be July/August since almost all of the July babies were/are late! How is it going for you all?

Same for us Littlerach - the mid-afternoon one he often only has a few sips of. I try to pace them out so they're at leats an hour away from meals but he still doesn't always want lunch or tea one. The ones he really wants are bedtime and breakfast now that we're trying not to give him milk in the night.

He still can't sit up by himself but is getting better at sitting propped - he does keel over sideways quite easily though. He's desperate to crawl but I think it's still quite a way off.

littlerach · 02/03/2005 14:09

yes!! she lifts her bum up and pulls with her hands, quite funny!!

cricket · 02/03/2005 15:45

Sammy seems to be having quite a lot of milk still - about 25 oz over 24 hour period and that's with 3 meals a day. Just checked with HV and he doesn't seem unduly concerned about it as Sam is a big boy! Was thinking about changing to follow-on type milk but heard that if your baby was happy with his/her usual milk then there was no need to change. He has a big bottle at bedtime (7oz) and then another 8oz at 10pm but still wakes up at 4-5 am for either a feed (I give him water to stall him until 6am now) or a play! Seems to be the age for babies to wake up at this time though as everyone else seems to be waking up too! The last couple of nights he has been hard to settle after his bottle at 6am and have had to bring him into bed with us to try and get a bit more sleep! Am not sure I want to make this a habit though....Haven't progressed very well with finger foods apart from rice cakes which stick to everything. Anyone have any good suggestions (apart from usual carrot, cucumber etc) - would love to hear!

cricket · 02/03/2005 16:01

Oh, and he is not that fussed about sitting up yet - I think his large belly gets in the way and he loses balance - but he loves belly-flopping on his front and sticking his bum in the air. he's desperate to get moving..not sure I'm ready for that!!

Well, we tried some gentle cc last night. Phoebe went to bed fine as usual. Woke up at 11ish and had a cuddle and went back down. Then she woke at 4.30am, I gave her a cuddle, a bit of water and a nappy change, then settled her back in her cot and said goodnight. She grizzled for a bit then properly cried for 2-3 mins after which I went in, stroked her face, calmed her down etc, then said night night again. She cried for abou 2 minutes and then went off to sleep and woke up again about 8am - hurrah!

Glad I didn't have to let her cry for long as I'm not sure I could do it, it's so sad! Did seem to work though, so we'll see how we get on tonight.

Phoebe has about 20-25oz a day spread accross 5 bottles, but like some of you she doesn't take a lot at some of them, so I'm wondering whether to cut it down to 4 and she might take the same amount over those?

Tried her with pea size bits of cheese last night and she loved it. Also gave her 3 segments of orange which she guzzled but I kept hold of them and she just sucked out the pulp, don't think she could deal with the skin/stringy pith just yet.

Cricket, I have such a picture of your DS in my head!!!

poppy101 · 02/03/2005 19:44

Is it okay if I join the thread, my little one was born in August ?

littlerach · 03/03/2005 09:43

Of course it is!!!
Welcome to MN, how is your little one?
Is this your first?

hamster · 03/03/2005 09:50

Hi just come across this thread, my little man was born in August have been dying to find out how he's getting on in comparison to others near his age. He's my first so I get worried over the slightest thing!

littlerach · 03/03/2005 10:01

And welcome to you!!!

dinosaur · 03/03/2005 10:53

Hello and welcome to hamster and poppy.

Well, am just gobsmacked with Blake's progress. Last night (night 5 of the new regime) he woke up sometime round about 3a.m. -4 a.m. (I didn't have a clock nearby) but never cried - just chatted and sang a little bit then went back to sleep, and I did too.

Next time I heard him stirring I went into him and discovered it was 4.50 a.m.! I had no option but to pick him up and feed him then as my right boob was like a football!

So that was sleep alone in cot from 7.15 p.m. to 4.50 a.m.! Not bad for a baby who was still waking every hour last week.

MrsEvs - very pleased to hear of your success too!

Blake can sit up now, with a bit of support, and is eating like a horse. He has a breastfeed before I go to work, 4-5 oz of formula or expressed milk as mid-morning drink, 6-7 oz of formula or expressed milk at about 3 pm and a big breastfeed before he goes down for the night, with one more during the night which I am not planning to stop just yet.

hamster · 03/03/2005 14:03

Hi Dinosaur, hello to you too good to hear your ds is sleeping a little more now. I suppose I am a little lucky in the sense that my ds has slept through 7-7 since he was 2 months. Though he doesn't each much, so that's probably why-lack of energy! My boy was born mid August, was due the 3rd, so late(typical man). I'm trying to gage what's normal for around this age. So far he isn't yet sitting up, not through lack of trying! He has a tummy like steel! I prop him with cusions, but he ends up on his back anyway!
And I'm a little frustrated at his lack of interest when it comes to holding things. I've been trying to encourage him, don't know what else to do. Still I s'pose he'll do it when he's ready. Expect the unexpected....He's suprises me with a lot sometimes, he's a cheeky monkey! He is one of these babies that waits till you're somewhere really quiet and decides to SHOUT and sing..loudly!
I'm now pg with my second, just to put a little more stress in my life

Sponge · 03/03/2005 14:33

My goodness Hamster, another one pregnant already. I don't know how you do it - I have 4 years between my two.
Welcome Poppy too.
Harry's doing a bit better on the sleep front too. Went to bed at 7.30 last night. Had a bottle at 10. Woke up for a couple of little grizzles but went back to sleep straight away with his dummy both times. Came into bed at 6am and had his milk at 7am. So we seem to bet getting out of the night feeding finally which is great.
WE're not doing many ifnger foods yet. He quite likes chewing on a bit of toast or a rice cake or even a stick of carrot but it's sooooooooooo messy.

sweetkitty · 03/03/2005 14:44

hi all

welcome poppy and hamster wow theres so many people already pregnant again I think we are going tp sensibly wait until we've relocated and are settled again although DP was saying we should start "trying" in the summer I'm more inclined to think late autumn/winter then there will be a 2 year gap.

Abbie's doing well her sleeps a bit over the place after our trip to Scotland (she was up at 2 this morning unlike her) solids still going really well starting her on baby pasta which she sucks the sauce off and spits the pasta out at you shes also got this habit of grinding her new teeth I've started brushing them now which is great fun.

Your right sponge finger foods is really messy rice cake the worst!

dinosaur · 03/03/2005 14:58

Pregnant again...thank Gawd I never have to do that!!!!

hamster · 03/03/2005 15:11

lol sweetkitty! my ds does that too..sucks the sauce off and spits the pasta out. I'm a wimp though and always end up mashing it for him-I know he needs to get used to it, I should stop it. Peas are even worse!

Quacks · 03/03/2005 21:07

Hiya, just catching up!!!!!!! Thanks again DINO!! Some more of those ideas would be brill! IE how do you feed them all so well and the same??
Welcome to new mumsnetters!!
Georgina is fab apart from a few problems eating, she is addicted to toast and only toast!
Really trying to get a ma-ma out of her, as she;s been giving Da-das for ages now without a sniff of a ma-ma!. She doesn;t like moving around much either, but loves sitting up. Considering a third now, but just don;t know if right time is yet. Have 4 yrs between DD1 and DD2 and really like the gap actuallym another so soon would rock the boat but I love having babbas!

mmmmchocolate · 03/03/2005 21:27

Do we just join in?

Xena · 03/03/2005 21:29

I did MC when was your DC born. My DD2 was born 8/7

littlerach · 04/03/2005 09:36

Welcome to you, MC, just join in!!

Quacks, good to hear from oyu, are you working at all?

Toothache · 04/03/2005 09:38

Hamster - pg again! Congratulations.

Dd has cried (screamed)constantly for 2 days and it peaked last night with a high temp. NHS24 told us to take her to the Infirmary where the Doc diagnosed a rather nasty ear infection. Poor wee soul. She's got AntiB's again.

Xena · 04/03/2005 09:54

Toothache my DD has been the same for the last week. I saw my neighbour at parents evening last night and she said that she'd heard her and says to her husband 'oh no shes off again' Tried to explain she's been unwell normally sleeps right through

Toothache · 04/03/2005 09:59

Xena - Cheeky witch!! on your behalf.... and this woman has children too???

dinosaur · 04/03/2005 09:59

Toothache sorry to hear about dd

Blake had an ear infection at the beginning of Jan and, bad mummy that I am, I didn't even realise (that's how bad he was at settling to sleep generally at the time)! He was grizzly one evening and wouldn't go to sleep until about midnight when he conked out in bed with me. Next morning about a tablespoonful of yellowy-white gunk poured out of his ear - his eardrum had burst! Of course once that had happened he was as happy as larry as the pain had gone away. Did feel like a bad mum though

Quacks - have to admit that Blake doesn't get all home-cooked meals - he usually has a jar for one of his main meals, although sometimes with extra potato and veg, depends what DH is cooking the older ones for their tea. But Annabel Karmel book is good for recipe ideas.

Three is lovely but hard work! But for me, going from two to three was not as hard as going from one to two. However, we have a three year age gap this time and I think that is easier than the two years gap I had between DS1 and DS2.

Xena · 04/03/2005 10:26

Tootache I know though didn't really know hat to say.

I would agree Dinosaur DD is our no3 and she just fits in with DS and DD1. DH is keen to try for no4 The midwife told us after DD2 was born that because of my PCOS that the sooner we tried again the bigger chance of success
