Babies born July/August 04

Hello everyone. My DS2 was born on July 4th and I have been waiting for a "Babies born in July" thread since then, but none has appeared! (at least I don't think it has). So I thought I should start one, I didn't have Mumsnet for DS1 and I wish I had. I thought it should be July/August since almost all of the July babies were/are late! How is it going for you all?

Good luck with your problems Do you think that its just because he wants to get up and play?

I hope not for your sake!

Hi spongebob DD2 was born 8th July and we have noticed that she 'strops' if she doesn't get what she wants and only stops if you give it to her I'm hoping this isn't a sign of things to come!

Hi everyone. my DS born 18july04 has begun to have terrible tantrum (especially at night) If he wakes in the night, he screams and thrashes like he's in pain, but if I sit him up and play with him he seems fine, until I lay him down again then he thrashes and head-slaps until I sit him up and give him a book (just cuddling him is not enough) this can sometimes go on for about 3-4 hours and it knackering! Anyone else experiencing similar behaviour?

Hi, is there a new thread for this? My dd was born end of Aug, and have only just discovered mumsnet. slow I know! Am 16 weeks pregnant so life is going to be very busy!

Nothing wrong with jars, it's cheaper to do your own, and we eat a lot of veg so it's easy to do hers as well. Am determined that she will eat the same as rest of us, as it's taken 3 yrs for DD1 to do this!!

Shall we start a new thread, agree it is sooo long!!

I knew there was something about you and Tony Dino. Just couldn't put my finger on it .

Toothache I fed dd mostly on jars and it didn't do her any harm. Occasionally I would also go to lots of trouble to make something nutritious and homemade and she'd spit it out.
If I had to get up as early as you I'd be doing jars as well.
With ds it's just working out to be quite easy to make big batches of food and he gobbles it all up so it's quite satisfying. Also it's much cheaper. And we now have a nanny and she's making some of the food so I'm cheating a bit .
We're going on holiday with him in a few weeks and then I will do jars for ease.
I don't feel strongly either way really - lots of the jars and frozen stuff is really brilliant now especially the fresh and organic stuff. Some of the standard heinz etc jars are a bit too bland and samey IMO though.

I'm not allowed to drink much coffee - have dodgy ticker, same sort of thing as Tony Blair had!

Whooops - DS3

Report

Toothache - I also can't see the harm - I read the labels and only buy things that don't have any funny additives.

The main reason I want to give DS3 some homemade food as well is because I think he will be less faddy as a toddler if I do. With DS1 we fed him too much on jars, I think, and he was very faddy as a toddler. Did more home-cooking for DS2 and he was a lot less faddy (a greedy gannet in fact!). Of course, there is no guarantee it will work out that way!

And sympathies about the lentil soup...I hate it when stuff like that happens! Haven't tried lentil on DS2 - he loves leek and potato though.

Dino - She's okay now, thankfully.

Blake sounds like he has the same routine as dd! Wakes at 1ish, but goes back to sleep with a bit of back patting and repositioning in the cot! Then up at 4 or 5am. I give in then and take her into bed to get the extra hour or so before the alarm goes off at 6.10am.

Sponge that sounds excellent!

Blake is also doing well on the sleep front. He conked out at 7.15 p.m. last night and I didn't hear a peep from him until 1.37 a.m. when he cried a bit but went back to sleep after a few minutes with me patting him and making shhhh noises. He then woke up again at 4 a.m. by which time I had developed footballs instead of boobs so I brought him into bed and fed him and we then slept until 7.15a.m.

He's eating absolutely TONS and can sit up now, although needs several strategically placed pillows/cushions.

Toothache - how is dd?

Should we start a new thread? This one is very looooooooong!

Oh god dd gets mostly organic baby foods. Don't tell me I'm damaging her in some way coz I'm not making her homemade stuff all the time!?
I read the jars and the ingredients are just exactly what I would make anyway.... no additives or strange chemical names.... just fruit or veg, meat, baby rice, milk, and that's about it. I just can't see the harm!

I made lentil soup the other day, faithfully blending it until as smooth as wallpaper paste. Sat down all chuffed with myself as I'd made enough to freeze loads of portions...... she sealed her mouth shut, wouldn't budge.... cheeky minx!

Why is there a taboo with jars of food?

Yesterday we moved Harry out of our room at last.
He went to bed at about 7.30. He had a bottle of milk at 10 which he drank but only half woke up for. He then had a bit of a yell at 3am but settled back down quite quickly with a bit of a stroke of the head etc - and that was it till the morning. We woke up with the alarm at 7 and when I went down he was awake but chatting quite happily in his cot. I slept so much better not being able to hear every little sound he made.
If we can just get rid of that 3am yell - which hopefully will happen when he realises that he's not getting any food or coming into bed - then sleep will be ours again.
Fingers crossed.

Evie has all homemade, except breakfast which is weetabix or porridge. I do a load of veg and freeze it and mix it for each meal. I add chicken or fish at lunchtime, and do potato and veg and cheese for tea. I must do some pasta soon, as she needs different things!! She also has fruit and yoghurt as puddings, and a rice cake when she likes. At M&T's, she will not stop shouting when they bring out the snacks, so she ends up having bits of banana!!

I've given Abbie quite a few jars only the sugar free ones (theres loads with added sugar) there are nice and handy if you are out and about.

I'm getting into Annabel Karmels recipes as well now I made the cheesy vegetable pasta this week DP said it looked like green plasticine!!! that'll be the broccoli Abbie not too keen on the lumps still although she loves the Spaghetti with tomato and mozzarella from Hipp I'm going to make my own version next week. I'm cooking in batches and freezing in little plastic pots then I just defrost 2 each day. For breakfast she's having either half a weetabix or ready brek now which she's decided she likes now.

Toothache - sorry to hear about your DD hoope she gets better soon

Hope dd feels better soon Toothache - poor little thing.
Hi mmmmchoc - glad you've found us.

So far Harry is eating all home cooked stuff. I tend to make a big batch of something, freeze it ice cube trays and then pop the cubes out into freezer bags. A session at the weekend means he's got say 4 things made up in the freezer - say a chicken stew, a couple of veg mixes and one or two fruit mixes. For each meal we then just pop out a few cubes, normally a mix and perhpas add yoghurt or baby rice to the fruit for variety.
For breakfast he has easy things like yoghurst and banana or a weetabix.
We've only tried him on one jar so far as I got it free but he didn't like it.
We haven't got him onto varations on the family meal yet as I don't think he's ready, we rarely eat together anyway and dd doesn't eat half as healthily or as well as him so I'd rather keep him on his homemade mushes for now.
Should probably start to introduce some pasta etc for texture as he has got some teeth.
