Hello everyone. My DS2 was born on July 4th and I have been waiting for a "Babies born in July" thread since then, but none has appeared! (at least I don't think it has). So I thought I should start one, I didn't have Mumsnet for DS1 and I wish I had. I thought it should be July/August since almost all of the July babies were/are late! How is it going for you all?

hi all back from cold and snowy Scotland Abbie did so well on the 9 hour journeys there and back I sat in the back of the car with her and played and talked to her a lot she slept for a lot of it as well. I felt so sorry for her she was either in her car seat or being carted around viewings with us or having over exuberant relatives bouncing her up and down and taking 100 photos of her. She was a little darling though not strange at all with anyone.

Anyway we've found a house we like and fingers crossed it all goes according to plan.

Still got 4 teeth coming in more dayd by day think she's got a cold coming as well as she's snuffling and grupy bless her.

Have been really busy - not sure what I've been doing though!! Hardly seem to have time on here at the mo.
Evie is ok, trying to crawl, bless her! Still waking in the night, but not feeding, so goes back down ok. Wakes abut 5.30am - ahhhh!! But goes back to sleep at 6??!!!! I don't know!

Not at all broody, a friend is pg with her 3rd, and my neighbour is expecting her 2nd, so enough around me!!

Where's Quackers?

Toothache · 24/02/2005 09:53

Help me girls!! Dd goes to sleep at 8pm.... no problems at all. But she stirs during the night (has a drink of water).... then she wakes at 5am singing!! Ds and Dd have to share a room so he wakes up too..... EVERYONE wakes up. She doesn't even go back to sleep if we take her in beside us.... she just shouts and sings and smiles an wriggles and then at about 6.30am, wants fed!!! What can I do??

I can't leave her coz Ds is getting disturbed. I wish we had a bigger house. Then I could just let her sing and shout until she wante dfed at 6.30am... but we cant'. HELP!

littlerach · 24/02/2005 10:05

Would she go back to sleep if you fed her at once?

The clocks go forward the end of March so then it will be an hr later anyway!!

Toothache · 24/02/2005 10:08

Yes she probably would, but I really want to avoid giving her a feed at night again. Would she not then expect it? My Mum said that to me too about the clocks, but then that means she's not going to bed until 9pm or 9.30pm! Suppose I can't have everything.... I would just like one child that goes to bed and sleeps til morning. Ds is nearly 4 and he STILL wakes through the night more than once.

Xena · 24/02/2005 10:10

Hi Tootache IKWYM our DD is the same she seems to have hit a really cheeky age into everything. I'm sorry I don't know how solve your problem though as ours have there own room. Could you put a travel cot in your room so that you could at least doze and it wouldn't disturb your DS?

madgirl · 24/02/2005 16:10

me 2 toothache, my ds is 4 this week and is still waking in the night...........ds2 is now waking and NOT going back to sleep. feel like i am in twilight zone. also ds2 won't go near solids, i joke not. re early waking, sorry no ideas, maybe as food intake increases will go for longer in the morning??? x

My DD2 is soooooooo snotty

sweetkitty · 28/02/2005 00:39

hi all

You may have seen my other posts about my friends baby dying today thats put a huge dampner on our weekend. DP has looked after Abbie a lot this weekend (mainly to avoid her being drowned in tears from me) I think it's been good for him to be so involved (not that he usually isn't but he's done loads as I also had a stomach bug last week).

Abbie's doing great becoming such a little madam a real little personality, it's so lovely to watch a person develop in front of you. She never stops "chatting" and you can tell immediately what mood she's in.

Toothache · 28/02/2005 08:11

SK - Haven't seen that thread yet. So so so awful. Really sorry for your friend and for you too. God I've been on MN for 10 minutes and I'm already crying. With your friends baby and Bubbles ds I am feeling extra specially thankful for my 2 today. Wish I could give them a big hug, but I'm at work.

littlerach · 28/02/2005 19:30

SK, hope you are ok, such a crappy thing.
It is at these times I do treasure my two a little more.xxx

Xena · 28/02/2005 19:37

It also makes me more greatfull for my 3 My thoughts are with bubble and your friend SK.

dinosaur · 01/03/2005 10:41

Hello everyone and welcome to all the new posters. Sorry I haven't been on here much recently.

Sweetkitty, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend .

Well, at the age of seven months I have finally started on the dreaded sleep training with Blake and it's going quite well. Last night (night 3) he went to sleep in his cot at 7.30 pm without any protest at all. He then woke at 11.45 p.m., 1 a.m. and 2.30 a.m. but each time went back to sleep after about five minutes or so of grumbling which turned into singing! He woke up again at 3.50 a.m. when I thought I'd better feed him, as that was his longest stretch ever without a feed. He had a big feed then and slept until I woke him up for the day at 7 a.m.

cricket · 01/03/2005 14:49

V impressive Dinosaur! how do you sleep-train then? I am currently trying to get my 6 1/2 month old out of the habit of waking at 4-5am for a feed (which he doesn't need as he has huge bottles at bedtime and 10pm)and could use any advice you may have....

dinosaur · 01/03/2005 15:27

Well, it's based on controlled crying (as described in the Richard Ferber book about sleep problems, don't know if you've ever come across it).

MrsEvs · 01/03/2005 23:09

I'm thinking about doing some version of cc (if I'm brave enough, and have enough wine in the house ). Phoebe goes to sleep fine at bedtime. Has supper, bath, bottle, cuddle and then goes into her cot without any protest. But she has started waking at 3/4am which she has never done before and will only be rocked to sleep, and I'm starting to consider doing it then. Has anyone else had any experience of doing it during night time wakings?

Apart from that she is on good form - so cute. Doing well with finger foods. She likes cucumber particularly and cheese on toast if she manages to nab some of mine . What is everybody else trying?

MrsEvs · 01/03/2005 23:10

Oh, meant to ask as well. How much formula/milk are your little ones taking now? And spread accross how many bottles/feedings?

Sponge · 02/03/2005 10:54

Hello all.
Back from our skiing holiday - without Harry as we couldn't sort out the passport issue, so he stayed with my mum. We missed him a lot but at the same time it was nice to have lots of time for dd and to catch up on our sleep .
For the last few days he's been taking a big bottle (180-210ml) at our bedtime and that takes him through to the morning in terms of feeding but like some of the others he wakes at 3-4, has a bit of a grizzle and won't settle back. I've been taking him into bed for an easy life as he does settle quickly then, but I know this is encouraging bad habits so we'll probably have to go the cc route if it carries on. We're going to move him to his own room soon as we've finally got around to decorating it so this might be the time to start so we don't hear every little noise.

Overall he's taking probably 5-6 bottles a day - breakfast, 10, 1, 4, bedtime, our bedtime - but he maybe drinks a lot at only 3 of these. I'm happy he's still getting his pint but he seems to be moving in favour of his solids except at bedtime.

Have the bottle feeders moved to progress milk or stayed with the first one. I'm thinking maybe progress might satisfy him more and help with the night sleeping.

littlerach · 02/03/2005 14:00

we are having 5 bottles a day, but only just scraping the pint! we've moved onto followon milk, as it has more iron and evie is still funny about her milk!!

which bottle goes first? ours seems to be either lunch or mid pm that she doesn't want.

she has been having roast chicken and loves it!!

she sits up well for a few mins at a time, so cute!
