Babies born July/August 04

Hello everyone. My DS2 was born on July 4th and I have been waiting for a "Babies born in July" thread since then, but none has appeared! (at least I don't think it has). So I thought I should start one, I didn't have Mumsnet for DS1 and I wish I had. I thought it should be July/August since almost all of the July babies were/are late! How is it going for you all?

Hi Everyone, Long time no see.........

Haven't had chance to catch up with all the goings on yet but am going to make my way through all the posts now.

Hope everyone is doing OK - Evie is at nursery now. Not something i wanted to do but if you saw my thread about getting engaged you will know about the chaos caused.
Evie's not got any teeth yet but she is standing well and moving around like a whippet. Still only says Dad but is much clearer, she actually says daddy now instead of Da Da Da. Very sweet but also quite frustrating at 3 in the morning.

littlerach · 09/02/2005 13:36

hi sc, hope things settle down, sounds as though Evie is thriving.

I got those granules, will let you know how tyhey work!!

Eshay · 10/02/2005 09:14

I'm back from my parents' place and we did take DS swimming. He loved it! It was so great to see him splash and kick his legs about. He was in a floating ring for most of the time and my parents floated all over the pool with him. They were so proud. The pool was great, it has high chairs, play pens and travel cots so we stayed in the pool for hours. DS took a nice long nap while we sat in the hot tub and when he woke up we swam some more with him. I'll just have to book another trip to see them (and the pool) again very soon

littlerach · 10/02/2005 10:11

Sounds fab, just what we need!!

Evie has a cold, again, and is covered in grrn snot!!!!!!!!!!
However, not too bad a night, considering, we used the granules, seemed to have an effect as she relaxed a lot.

Jessicasmum, hope Jess doesn't come down with it too, I saw that she was unsettled yesterday.

sweetkitty · 10/02/2005 10:18

aww wish I had been there to see all the little babies, Abbie was unsettled for a bit yesterday as well but I gave her some calpol and then some ashton and parsons and she's been fine.

can't wait to take her swimming I think she will love it as she adores her baths (my bathroom floor doesn't though)

Sponge · 10/02/2005 12:26

Ah, I really want to take Harry swimming but he hasn't really been well enough.
On the mend now I think - took him to the doc and they recommended no milk and preferably just liquid but if he got really hungry and we had to feed him then just very plain carbohydrate.
So I got him to drink dioralyte by adding peach squash - he loved it, drank bottle after bottle! - and fed him mashed potato and it seems to be working.
He has 3 teeth now. Really cute but v sharp now that he has top and bottom to pincer you with. He got the upper side ones first so he has a slightly vampiric look .

Hi, can I belatedly join this thread. I was on the TTC and September ante-natal threads previously and recognise a few of your names.

I had my daughter Charlotte (Aka Lottie) August 18th. She had growth retardation so I was induced 3 weeks early and she only weighed 4.13. She is still a little dot but is catching up now she is on proper food and weighed 13lb today.

I have really enjoyed the last 6 months and I am dreading going back to work in 6 weeks time.

jessicasmummy · 10/02/2005 20:58

dont worry littlerach - jess has been fine today!

we have been posted and will be moving as of 28th feb.... cant believe after all this time we are finally going! its a shame as was hoping to meet up with you all again.

im sure we will still chat on here and see how little ones are growing!!!!

MrsEvs · 10/02/2005 21:26

Welcome nicknick hope your little one continues to thrive

Phoebe is just so cute at the moment, really chatty and giggly. Still lovesher bath and now kicks her legs like an Olympic swimmer in there

Her 2 little teeth are poking up a bit more now, and she sits happily and plays with her toys all around her for ages. Not showing any signs of wanting to crawl though - are any of yours? She still pretty much hates being on her tummy. It's early still I know, but I was with a baby 2 weeks younger than her yesterday and he was pretty good at getting his knees up, and looked like he was keen to get going.

HelloMama · 10/02/2005 21:34

Hi all. It has been a long time since i posted on this thread!

Ruben is great. No teeth yet but he sits up playing with his toys chatting away to himself. SO cute! No signs of wanting to crawl though. He just lies on his tummy getting cross. We go to swimming lessons every week and he is getting quite good in his little red swim nappy. Very baywatch! At the end of this month he moves up to the next set - no longer a beginner. The sleeping is a bit all over the place - we have a good night and I think we've cracked it and then it all goes pear shaped again. Never mind. I am also back to work 1 day per week (you may have seen us in the Guardian on Wednesday talking about my back to work experiences... ) I'm glad you're all doing so well and the little babies are growing up well, despite the various colds, tummy aches and teething traumas!

littlerach · 11/02/2005 08:37

Jessicasmummy, bet you're glad to be off!!!

Evie likes to be on her tummy, as she can throw herself back onto her back!! She goes the length of the lounge!!!!

cricket · 11/02/2005 10:05

Sam likes being on his tummy for a while but gets frustrated after about 10 mins or so of frantically trying to move himself and get his legs and bum in the air - he's trying very hard to get moving! He's not sitting up properly yet - can manage a couple of seconds and then falls over!
Don't know if the other little ones are waking up still but for some strange reason, Sam woke up 5 times last night. Hasn't done that in ages and couldn't find any obvious reason why either...hmmm.

Sponge · 11/02/2005 11:27

Harry doesn't mind being on his tummy and sleeps like that now but does get frustrated if he's face down awake for too long. No sign of crawling, just does the frantic swimming thing with his arms and legs. He can roll both ways and covers some distance like that - he rolled off the bed the other day so we can't put him to sleep in the middle fo our bed any more.
He can't sit up at all though. If we prop him up well he can sit for a bit but then reaches for something and topples over.
He's quite little. Still only 15.5lbs but he has had quite a bit of sickness recently so once he's better I'm sure he'll start to pile on the pounds again.

cricket · 11/02/2005 11:38

Hope Harry gets better soon Sponge. Sounds like you've been having a nightmare with his tummy troubles.

sweetkitty · 11/02/2005 12:03

welcome nick nick

so sorry to hear about Harry as well sponge hope he's over it soon.

Abbie hasn't started moving either she kind of wobbles about on her playgym but she doens't like rolling or being on her tummy too long.

LexyB · 11/02/2005 21:17

Hi everyone
Well started back at work this week and although I was dreading it, I'm surprised at how it was so much better than I expected. In fact, in a way, quite nice. Good to get my brain working again and have adult conversations and not spend the day trying to amuse a very alert 5 month old. Stanley is only having 2 or 3 1/2 hour naps a day and the virtually rest of the time I end up carrying him about - by the end of the day I ache all over. He has 2 teeth so far and even though its very early I'm sure the top two are coming now.
Did embarrass myself at work ( I'm a midwife ) as I delivered a baby and then kept saying Oh its so small!(blush) Well it was only 6lb and Stanley was 19lb last time he was weighed.

cricket · 12/02/2005 15:51

Nice to hear of another large baby - Sammy is 6 months old today and 22lb now! Huge by anyone's standards!! He has been a bit poorly the last couple of nights but I'm not sure what is wrong - he has refused to drink any milk since last night 10pm and am getting worried that he might dehydrate if he doesn't have any soon...He doesn't have a temperature but seems generally unsettled and is crying a lot and waking up several times in the night (unusual for him). Oh and he has been eating his solids, just not the milk...Any ideas??? Should I be getting him to drink water instead of the milk or will he be alright for a while?

littlerach · 12/02/2005 19:09

Could try him with water, it is so frustrating, isn't it. I would have though he would be getting water from his meals, especially fruit and veg, I was told to keep an eye on the soft spot as it dips when they get dehydrated.

Eshay · 13/02/2005 10:32

Last night I had a slight panic as DS's back was covered in hives! Red spots everywhere! We decided it was probably the salmon he had eaten and some quick research indicated that it wasn't really anything to worry about but of course I still had to go and check on him twice before we went to bed as I was imagining him swelling up and choking. Me and my imagination... He had a great night and woke up at 7.45am without a single red patch. Boy, was I relieved. It wasn't his first taste of salmon but you never know, these thing can suddenly appear or maybe I missed the patches the first time. I think I'll have to try him on a bit of salmon again, just to check. He quite likes it and it's supposed to be good for them so I don't want to just stop giving it to him without being sure.

littlerach · 13/02/2005 13:42

Sounds like a good appetite!!
Evie had cod for the first time today and absolutely wolfed it down! Unfortunately the cat smelt it too, and was hovering!!

cricket · 14/02/2005 08:29

Decided to take Sam to the doctors today after 4 nights of disturbed sleep (him and me!). He seems to be back on the milk (although not to his usual large amounts)but keeps waking up coughing so I think he needs to be checked out. Shame he's been ill as I was looking forward to trying out new foods with him over the weekend - fish and meat especially!!

littlerach · 14/02/2005 08:48

I have discovered the most amazing invention - a dummy which you can put medicine in and as they suck they get some through the teat. Also, a dummy which has a little compartment in which you can put olbas oil ona cotton wool ball, then as they suck, it clears their nose - wow!!!! And all in Tesco!!!!

Toothache · 14/02/2005 08:54

My poor baby girl seems to be on her 2nd cold right after the 1st one. SHe has a really horrible cough that makes her gag and her nose is so stuffy. On Friday night she went to bed at 8pm, woke at 12am and didn't go back to sleep until 5am!!! It's been awful, she just can't sleep and is getting so frustrated and angry. So are we!

Do you think she might need an antibiotic? I'm wondering if she now has a chest infection rather than the cold. This has been going on now for nearly 3 weeks.

Littlerach - I've seen those and keep meaning to buy one. I MUST buy one this week!

littlerach · 14/02/2005 09:02

We've been the same, Toothache, and so nice to "see" you!!! How is work and DH?
You must buy one of the dummies, they are a miracle!

Evie had antibiotics at Xmas, as she had 2 colds staight after each other.

Toothache · 14/02/2005 09:23

Hi Littlerach - Work is okay, although they didn't get around to organising any cover whilst I was off.... so I'm having to pick up the pieces now!!

Things aren't great with DH, but it's my birthday tomorrow and he got me a Karaoke machine!! So he scored some points with that.

Dd has been so good, but this cold is a nightmare. She shares a room with Ds so he's been distrubed at night too. He's started having a 2.5 hr nap in the afternoon again!
