Hello everyone. My DS2 was born on July 4th and I have been waiting for a "Babies born in July" thread since then, but none has appeared! (at least I don't think it has). So I thought I should start one, I didn't have Mumsnet for DS1 and I wish I had. I thought it should be July/August since almost all of the July babies were/are late! How is it going for you all?

We're off to New Zealand on Wednesday and I am not looking forward to the flight at all. Does anyone have any tips on what to bring, do and what not to do? Thanks.

Sponge · 14/02/2005 16:34

Hi Toothache. Wow, haven't heard from you for ages.
Probably worth taking him to the docs just to see if antibiotics might help. Generally they don't but if it's been going on that long it might need them as viral infections tend to clear up quicker I think.
Harry's actually OK at the moment, touch wood. Had a great weekend, ate masses, drank loads of milk and no sign of any puke or runny nappies at all. Hurrah!
Also he learnt to roll back from his tummy to his back so he was flipping backwards and forwards and laughing away instead of getting stuck on his front and getting frustrated. Very cute.

Sponge · 14/02/2005 16:37

By the way, welcome Shelly121 and cory

littlerach · 14/02/2005 16:55

Eshay, lots of baby wipes!!!!
Water for baby to drink, as well as milk.
Don't rely on the airline providing baby food, take your on.
Get a bulkhead seat and a crib, even if you have to make a fuss to get it!!
Accept any offers of help from other passengers and crew.
Don't worry if baby cries a lot, most people are very understanding.

We flew to LA over Xmas, we were dreading it as DD2 is difficult!! But she was fine, grouchy when she was tired, but isn't everyone?!!

melbob · 15/02/2005 03:02

Hi

Can't believe its over a month since I last messaged. Time flies when you having a manic time!

Being back at work ok but am vv lucky as DH is caring for DS. Miss both like mad and it can be difficulat when DH knows more baout DS than I do, I know I know I have to get over it.

DS chomping through purees like a pro but refusing other textures and cannot get him to drink water. Guees we lsut have to persevere.

Is anyone else in Herts/Essex area?

sweetkitty · 15/02/2005 13:24

hi got DD weighed this morning she is 15lbs 15ozs although she kept kicking about in what were the smallest set of scales ever.

HV made me though first she says what age is DD I said nearly 7 months "can she sit?" I said aided or unaided she looks at me as if I am mad I said unaided no she topples over. Then she marks her as 31 weeks so she goes under her 25th centile line so we got a comment on that. I said I think she is 30 weeks (she is 30 weeks) and she is on 3 meals a day and doesn't their weight gain slow down after 6 months! HV didn't like knowledgeable mother almost said "aren't the charts inaccurate anyway!" but thought that was going too far.

We've got 4 teeth through now the top ones are so huge and gappy looking. We're all off househunting this weekend to Scotland so we've got an 8 hour drive ahead of us not a nice prospect at the best of times.

Eshay · 15/02/2005 14:08

Sweetkitty, HVs can be great and they can be absolutely useless. You are the only person who knows best how well your DD is doing as you see her making progress. Doesn't your HV know that all babies develop at their own rate?
Good luck in Sctoland!

Eshay · 15/02/2005 14:18

Littlearch, Thanks for the tips. I've bought loads of little jars of food and some ready to go cartons of milk. I've already phoned the airline to reserve a basinette but they said it would depend on how many babies there are on the flight. Just to make sure, I'm going to check in very early. Hopefully the flight isn't full and they can block the seat next to us (you can always hope...). I bought a small car mobile today that has suction cups. I'm hoping that will stick to some airplane wall or other surface.
I probably won't post for three weeks or so so good luck to everyone in the meantime.

Toothache · 15/02/2005 14:41

SK - My wee pudding is on the opposite scale! I haven't had her weighed at the clinic for ages, but weighed her at home last week..... 18lb 6oz!! What a whopper! She only has 2 teeth though..... 2 very sharp teeth! OUCH. And she can't sit up on her own at ALL yet. Still very wobbly and falls forward all the time. Don't worry about that HV.... must've been having a bad day.

cricket · 15/02/2005 16:27

hello everyone.
Sam got some nasal drops from the doctor yesterday to help him breathe and they seem to have helped him sleep better (was only up 3 times during last night, compared to 10 times the night before)...also got some Olbas oil which seems to help too...Hope all the babies get better soon.

sweetkitty · 15/02/2005 16:39

Thanks oh don't worry I don't take any notice of them at all, I only go once a month to have her weighed and at least 2 of them always ask "do you need to talk to us about anything" No go away!!! I suppose they are only doing their job where we are it's about 70-80% of people don't have English as their first language and I suppose they get used to talking to everyone as if they are 5 years old.

Good luck with the trip eshay xx

sophie10 · 15/02/2005 20:02

Hi Guys can I join your thread? DD2 was born on the 8th July. It would be great to chat with people whos babies are the same age as mine also have DS 7 and DD nearly 3

Eshay · 15/02/2005 20:44

Hi Sophie10. My DS and yours share their birthday! So an extra special welcome to you from me .

Sponge · 16/02/2005 10:58

Hi Sophie 10 and welcome.
My ds is a month younger than yours and I have a dd aged 4.5.

He's started rolling rather too well now and threw himself off the bed this morning .
I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth when I heard a thud and a wail. Bit of a bloody nose and quite a bit of crying but he seemed over it after about 5 minutes.
Still, we'll have to be more careful from now on, poor little mite.

Our big drama ATM is that we're due to go on holiday on Sunday and have just realised that ds doesn't have a passport! Have an appointment tomorrow morning to try and get one rushed through but it's discretionary - only guaranteed with a week's notice. Fingers crossed for us XX

sophie10 · 16/02/2005 12:20

Hi guys thanks for the welcome are any of you having problems with jealous older siblings? It has only just started since DD2 has been moving but neither DS or DD have been like it before? DD1 is snatching everything and has tried wrapping her including her head in a blanket.

shelly121 · 16/02/2005 20:21

hiya, my boy david is like that, he is 2 and half and yesterday tried to smother cory with a pillow! everytime i try to b/f he goes nuts and starts biting and nutting the floor! any tips anyone in how to handel this?

sasa15 · 17/02/2005 12:48

what time does he/she nap during the day?

I can't work it out when to put ds down...

I don't always understand if I need to respect a routine or wait first if he get tired scratching his eyes...
he might sleep better if he's not overtired....????

booooooooo????????!!!

Dunno!

jessicasmummy · 17/02/2005 12:49

3 rubs of the eyes and its bed time! thats my rule!

sasa15 · 17/02/2005 12:55

any time during morning and afternoon....?
what about yawning? (spelling)

could it be a sing...or he's bored...

jessicasmummy · 17/02/2005 12:59

jess usually starts rubbing at about 10.30am and then again about 1.30pm but i tend to see it as tired if they are rubbing eyes and yawning. Boredom to me is when jess gets tetchy for no reason and wimpers.

sophie10 · 17/02/2005 13:02

Hi guys DD still sleeps for half an hour in the morning and a couple of hours after lunch seems to keep her happy until 7pm bedtime

Sponge · 17/02/2005 13:48

Babies don't yawn becasue they're bored. They fidget, look away from what they're doing, cry. If they're yawning then they're starting to get tired.
I'm not much of one for strict routine but patterns are starting to emerge with Harry. If he hasn't slept for 3 hours then I certainly look for signes of tiredness and try and help him settle if he's having trouble by himself.
I only actually put him down in the dark at bedtime as I want that to be a nighttime and longer sleep association for him.

Sponge · 18/02/2005 11:59

Harry slept from 9pm to 6am last night .
Probably just a one off but fingers crossed.

MrsEvs · 18/02/2005 19:06

Well I have the opposite problem. Phoebe has always slept from around 8pm to 8am, but has suddlenly taken to waking up in the night. She has had her teeth coming through and also for the last couple of days a cold, so that is hopefully why, but I just feel like we have taken a massive step backwards
