Thought i would start the offical May 2007 thread as it is May and we have now had our first offical May baby - even though we have 6 naughty babies who queue jumped and arrived in April .

Probably be a while before there are many messages but a least we have a thread now

Lupins71 · 11/06/2007 16:58

Congrats JL hope your recovering ok

AM beale park has really changed still a lovely place tho

Arlen has now been registered Arlen Rhys, took a whole bloody hour as their systems were slow, also he is such a ganet 3 feeds in 2 hours where does it all go

BefnalBub · 11/06/2007 17:20

had a bit of a hellish day w/ L! HV was funny - told me I looked beautiful but tired and stressed, thats why I was being hostile

she gave me a couple of good bf pointers tho..

I knew they went bluish around the mouth with wind but didn't realise:

to wind them on your shoulder they have to be high enough for your shoulder blade to be in their tummy - this is what pushes the wind up..

sitting them upright in your lap and gently 'pulling them straight' is most effective

if the wind hasn't come out after a couple of mins its prob too far down and you need to do baby gym cycling/circular tummy rub/pushing ankles to chest/raising bottom by lifting legs/tiger in tree

wind will make them come off the breast so if they've only done 10 mins its wind if they are bluish - should wind then reoffer - otherwise they'll keep waking up either hungry or with the wind, then kep getting too much foremilk and sleeping only for short periods.

if you can get this right they should feed more, be more comfy and sleep more

apols if this is obvious - i needed it spelling out - it makes sense but you kind of panic feed when they are screaming!

CM - thanks for fab parcel - the clothes are lovely and brilliant colours!! hopefully will have more time tomorrow if madam behaves and will make it to the postoffice with yours!

right.. off to see JL....

Great news re dh Lupins..hope it goes well..
I had tons of stitches lgandt, gaah, they are pinching today...but midwife had a look and they are healing fine..have run out of proper painkillers so just Ibuprofen for me now..
pain from stiches nothing compaered to my boobies though..this is what it must be like to be Jordan..cant lift my arms above my shoulders at the mo and they feel as hard as concrete..dh likes the look of them though..

Which brings me on to SOH...6 weeks till I dared have sex last time and that was only after some wine..(not an option for you) for dutch courage!Would you consider the depo injection?Think thats what im going for this time..Mae's existance is tantamount to my success at remembering to take pill!

Wow April..Ella is really doing great on the sleeping and the weight gain!Sounds like you've a good one there!

DD2 was weighed today and has actually gained 3 ounces..8.3 now, so am really pleased..DD1 lost nearly half pound after birth, (I really was rubbish at B'Fing)so am relieved not to have that to worry about this time..she slept great last night too, woke at 1 and 4 to feed but settled right back off in basket after..same cannot be said of DD1 however as she woke at 11 for no reason and then screamed blue murder every time we tried to leave her room for two hours till we gave in an put her in our bed with us where she promptly fell asleep..some anxiety kicking in re her sister I think...hope she doesnt do the same tonight...

DH is grey with fatigue but wont admit it..men are so odd..took both girls out this aft so he could have a rest..he is trying to be a hero and not show how tired he is bless him..but he will be no use to me when he collapses in a heap!

juliewoolie · 11/06/2007 19:49

evening ladies.

Had a major revelation re BF the other day and today the problem was solved. After suffering from horrid cracked nips last week and then a visit to hospital as Archie wasnt feeding properly and consequently wouldnt wake up. A consultant who had a look at him and said yeap he has tongue tie which basically means he is unable to latch on properly and therefore just gnaws away at my nipples. So anyway this problem was fixed in 20 seconds, the consultant snips the bit of skin and hey presto he can poke his tongue out and feed without it hurting!!!!!!!

So for anyone out there suffering with problems check out the tongue if your baby is unable to poke his tongue further than his lip and if when his tongue lifts up it looks heart shaped it is possibly tongue tie.

Sorry for the long post but thought I should pass it on as I know it had almost made me give up BF as it was so painful.

juliewoolie · 11/06/2007 19:55

Sorry,

hurrah for JL welcome to the club.

Who on earth is thinking about sex FGS have we not been through enough in the past few weeks without the possiblity of getting pregnant again. ; )

Everyone I am thinking of you all and am missing our chats every day will we ever get the chance to while away the day on mumsnet anymore. I am reading the posts so am keeping up on all your news.

Have a good eve lots of sleepy baby vibes to everyone.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 11/06/2007 21:31

Wooohoooo, congratulations JL and family. Fantastic news.

Thats it then is it? NO more beautiful may babies to arrive. All present and correct.

AM, Jorja will be weighed again on Thursday. Hope she's hit her birth weight now.

Befnalbub, That was fab advice about the bf, I didn't know about the wind being too deep and the baby gym bits. Jorja definately does what you describe, unsettled waking, feeding a little etc and I do really struggle to get her wind up even if I can hear it in her, I can't get it up sometimes. Maybe this is why her weight gain has not been great, too much foremilk?

Lupins, glad dh has agreed to see someone.

Hello to everyone else.

JonahB · 11/06/2007 21:39

Good lord, who on earth is discussing having sex???? SOH ? you?re a braver woman than I am. DH is going to have to wait a little bit longer for any of that sort of nonsense!!!

Scoot ? you do have my sympathies re the stitches. I had an episiotomy last time and it?s not nice at all. Not sure if this helps, but when mine got really tight and seemed to be getting worse, I asked the MW to remove them for me. For some reason, my ?dissolvable? stitches never did and most of them were removed manually. Sounds a bit grim, but it was a vast improvement having them out.

All?s going okay here. I am ordering myself to stop reading books which tell me that by this stage, the babies should be lasting 3 hours between feeds. I?m getting anything between 1½ - 3 hours. Admittedly he?s not 2 weeks old yet, but it is a little off-putting. I?m putting it down to the hot weather and a greedy child .

Sending you all lots of good-night?s-sleep vibes?.

AbbyLou · 11/06/2007 21:53

Hi all. Lovely to hear all the tales of your los. Congrats to JL, can'y believe we all have babies now.
I've christened Ruby's future cm the Baby Whisperer. We went to Toddler Group today and she had R out for a cuddle. She was awake and quiet the whole time and was an angel all day. She fed well, settled to sleep on her own and went to bed tonight like a dream. Long may it continue.
My dh had hinted at the old sex thing but I don't really feel ready. I have my check up next week and will be asking to go back on the pill but am I right in thinking I have to wait for the first day of period to start it? I can't remember how long that took last time. Dh won't entertain the idea of condoms so that gives me a few more weeks grace!

BefnalBub · 11/06/2007 22:11

mrsjb do let me know how you get on - i get varying success... if i sit her up as soon as she has pushed herself off the nipple, I can often get a burp by the sit them up and pull method, over the shoulder gets me very little. when i see her pushing, cycling the legs or pushing the ankles to thighs and lifting slightly often gets me a fart or two! nice. sometimes doing the baby gym stuff too soon after feeding pumps the milk back out the top so be warned! they are such hard work when they choose to be!

JL's little son is gorgeous - they are hoping to be out tomorrow so don't want to give too much away

xx

Pebblemum · 11/06/2007 22:27

Evening all

Thought i would quickly catch up while all my beautiful children are asleep, hopefully i have 2hrs before A decides to wake.

Congrats to JL

SOH I braved sex last week (A was just over 2wks old) and it was fine although I didnt have stitches only a few little 'grazes'. I must admit i was very nervous but we took it slowly and I actually enjoyed it , it didnt hurt at all. It was more the thought of it beforehand that nearly put me off, everytime i imagined us having sex i remembered the pain i had gone through a fortnight before. Im still shocked at how soon we have got back to normal in that respect, it took longer with the boys but to me the time felt right. We hate having to use condoms though but neither of us fancy having another baby so its them or nothing.

It was actually quite funny, I hadnt thought I would have sex for ages yet so we were 'unprepared' and it was late so dh had to pop to the pub to get some condoms from the machine in the toilets (he didnt want to wait until the next day in case i changed my mind lol) It was like being a teenager again.

I cant believe im talking about my sex life with people Ive never met Hope my mum never comes on here Ive been telling her im still a virgin lol, ive just had 3 immaculate conceptions

Lupins71 · 12/06/2007 07:48

JonahB pls dont torture yourself with what your baby should be doing when, A is still only going about 2 hours, 3 is a bonus - he had x 3oz bottles one after the other last night and only just went 3 hrs

Hmmmm the thought of sex must admit am still not interested in the slightest, dp keeps reminding me that its nearly 3 months but he is saying that being depressed is kind of keeping his libido in check, think its the thought of even the remotist chance of getting pg thats putting me off, must go and speak to consultant for my hystorectomy

Anyone tried a loola?? off to mcare tomorrow to try on out

Back to my housekeeping job today, its such a doddle job and the guy is lovely and his house is immaculate so not too traumatic, what im not looking forward to is the trip, have to get the bus then the train then 25minute walk before i even start, wouldnt be so bad but i only have my huge powertrack sofa pushchair and its not very practical for the bus

Hope ev1 has had a good nights sleep and has a good day

ShowOfHands · 12/06/2007 09:54

Aah all present and correct. We can shut the door on the Antenatal thread then I suppose. How bizarre.

Well, after getting all excited about having a libido again and congratulating myself on feeling so ready after a failed ventouse, episiotomy and a sunroof extraction, I've had a minor setback... a period! What's that all about then? I'm exclusively breastfeeding at least every 2 hours, even overnight and my damn periods have come back. I was promised a holiday from them. Who do I complain to?

aprilmeadow · 12/06/2007 10:06

SOH, oh no!!! I thought they didnt come back til you stopped feeding!!!!!

Has anyone heard from Jelly Belly??? She was due at the end of May

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 12/06/2007 10:10

AM, I thought that too but a quick search on here and a trawl through the web has suggested that it's rather more common that I thought.

Bugger.

aprilmeadow · 12/06/2007 10:24

not such a good night last night. E went down at 8.20pm and slept til 1.20am (i expressed 3.5oz at 11pm, thats a record for me ) then woke again at 5.20am also waking her brother! Fed and woke again at 8.20am. I am hoping to try and bring her bed time forward as J goes to bed at 7.30 and it would be good to get them btoh down around that time. I guess its something to do slowly and once she is defiantely in a routine.

Going to walk into town again today. Was bloody knackered after doing so yesterday, but i guess exercise is good and it helps to shift the baby lbs!

Got E's passport today, so now we cna start booking holidays

OP posts:
aprilmeadow · 12/06/2007 10:24

I guess i shouldnt count my chickens either then

OP posts:
Lupins71 · 12/06/2007 14:15

AM how is that not a good night lets swop babies for a night lol!!

SOH my period was back excactly 6 weeks after having willow and I was just bf, this time however still no sign after 2 month, altho i have been getting more pain down there so am wondering if it is on its way, also pretty sure i am having ov pain - dp can bugger off if he thinks he is coming any where near me!!

Work went well such a lovely guy, cant believe i am back already, dont think my mate that was covering for me was too chuffed, she thought she had a couple more months of easy money, Arlen started to get hungry towards the end but dp showed up to collect us so i handed him over to feed while i finished up

ShowOfHands · 12/06/2007 15:54

Can I just echo what Lupins said... that's a bad night AM?! I'm lucky if Mathilda goes two hours, she's nearer 1hr at the moment. Just been weighed again and she has put on another half a pound in 6 days. HV shouted at me because I'm 'clearly anaemic and exhausted and not asking for help enough'. She then shouted at DH for working long hours and told him that his wife is thin and over-worked. Of course I only heard 'thin'! Got to go to the GP first thing tomorrow for an iron check as I don't think the tablets are working. I am a bit tired and dizzy I will begrudgingly concede.

Lupins, your job sounds lovely and you are sounding very happy I must say. Very good to hear.

Thought for the day: you are not a real breastfeeding mother until you have clambered into the back of your car at a red light, wapped out your veiny, stretch-marked nork and dangled it into the car seat in the direction of your screaming baby. Sexy me.

SKYTVADDICT · 12/06/2007 17:10

Hi all

Just read the last few posts as can never catch up.

C. goes 3-4 hours regularly at night and very occasionally 7! He is getting a bit grizzly during the day though and in the evening which nearly caused an argument last night as DP can't bear him crying and won't hear that all babies do it FFS! I have been and got some infacol today to shut him up (DP not DS as it probably won't work anyway!) DPs mum is not helping as she rang yesterday as she was worried that when we called into their house on Sunday he wasn't settled - he is a 5 week old baby FFS what do they expect!!!!! Can you tell I'm stressed today?

DD1 been sick over the weekend at the PGL camp and so were loads of her frieds - a bug apparently - not food poisoning - will wait and see if we get it before I am convinced its not food poisoning. She has been off school today.

C. now been asleep since 2.10 and I had a sleep too but just feel really tired today.

TMI I think but my lochia hasn't really stopped due to problems with infection I think but today I thought I had passed another clot and it was a fatty lump that looks like a chewed piece of meat? HV coming tomorrow so I saved it for her LOL. I am sure she will be pleased.

Sex is the last thing on my mind at the mo, can't even think about it.

SKYTVADDICT · 12/06/2007 17:11

SOH - hope you get your iron levels sorted. I am still taking spatone daily and trying to have a pint of guinness a day too. In fact, just off to have half a pint now.

aprilmeadow · 12/06/2007 17:32

Ok, well i mean not as good as the previous night. I have to say that i feel i deserve a good sleeper, they cant get much worse than ds! He was up every 2hrs in the night when small and in order to get him to sleep we either had to go for an evening stroll around the village or stick him in his buggy in front of the tumble dryer!

She has been really good today. I am trying to follow a routine from a book, i am doing it fairly loosely as i dont want to be restricted as to when i can go out. She has stuck to it without realising it today which is great.

Lupins, glad your job went well today. I have posted the pregnacare to you this afternoon so you should get it tomorrow. I have condensed 2mths worth into one box so it would fit in the envelope.

SOH, that sounds super sexy!! I have fed Ella whilst sat in my car in several car parks as well as in a restaurant. Didnt care what people in the restaurant thought - i had a bf'ing top on so couldnt see anything - as i was with my boss who is very pro bf and she would have said something if a comment was made

I had better get myself together and go collect J from nursery

OP posts:
Lupins71 · 12/06/2007 18:12

SOH you start taking it easy young lady - thats an order!!!

AM thanks for the vits, what book are you following?????????????????

InTheseShoes · 12/06/2007 18:15

Evening all. I'm not going to discuss Ted's sleeping as I want you to stay friends with me, but suffice to say, it gets better as they become larger, and there are some advantages of carrying a mahooosive baby around for nine months. Feeding is also goign swimmingly still, it fecking hurts to latch on (DH unsupportively pisses himself laughing when I have to raise my leg in the air and go "ow ow ow ow ow " for twenty seconds at the beginning of the feed) but gets better. I am knackered though as big baby also equals huge and vociferous feeds. Am eating for England, nay, Greenland. I also have an infection (apparently) in my wound, and am on some mega anti-biotics which upsets me as a) I don't really like taking them and b) they are the ones you can't drink with. For EIGHT days. So, even with the knowledge that a little drink is OK when feeding, having read many a Mumsnet thread on it, I can't until Saturday.

I feel ok post C-section pottering around the house, but knock myself for six if I do anything else, i.e., take ds to school this morning which is literally a five minute walk.

Hope everyone is doing OK, I do miss the nattering and banter, hopefully we will be back on track in a couple of weeks

aprilmeadow · 12/06/2007 19:15

Lupins the book i am following is by she who must not be named. I have a few friends that it has worked a trick for. I tried it with J but as I am pants at following any sort of routine it didnt work for me, so i am using it this time to base feeds and sleeps on. Ella seems to have gotten in to the routine without me having to wake her etc so i am hoping that i only need to look to the book for reference every now and again.

ITS sorry to hear that you are on pain killers. Well done on the sleep front, Ted (still love that name) must be doing very well

SOH, lol at only hearing the word 'thin'. I am eating loads and having to walk round our estate and into town to make myself feel better about the number of ice creams and sweets and KK's i am consuming. Are you still eating your weight in gingerbread? if not you should And WOW/well done at half a lb in 6 days.

Sky, my dh is the same, he hated J crying when he was a baby and doesnt like to hear E cry but i am not picking her up every time she makes a noise. I know that sounds mean but i dont want to have her hanging from me all day everyday. This morning she cried for 5-10mins before falling asleep and she stayed that way for 2.5hrs, so didnt do her any harm. In fact today has been the best day so far - i know that i have now jinxed tomorrow and will probably have to post what a crap day i have had.

Got to go into work tomorrow to put a budget together for a big meeting they have on Friday - boss unable/unwilling to learn how to use our mgt system and my replacement doesnt start til next week. Then next week i have to go in every day to train said person. Dont mind too much as i can set my hours and i also get paid for it so onto a winner me thinks. They already owe me 200 for extra hours worked.
