Well helloooo Mummies!

i haven't been here for ages and it seems i've missed so much. i have just skimmed through the posts from maybe last thursday just to get kinda caught up...

before i get into anything, kk ~ i do hope you start to feel better about the situation all around. and i agree with the others, you are really holding yourself and your children together very very well, considering how much of a home-work load you do have. you are doing so much for them by giving them as much of you as you can.

well, i've been away on another thread...well, another forums site, really. i've found that since starting this crazy diet, i've needed so much support (as one does at times) so i have been practically living on that specific diets' forums! and its help me so very much. ((tomorrow will be weigh in day for the 4th week...so far?? and i know youre gonna be like: oh that doesnt sound healthy, yadda yadda yadda...but...2 stone off in 4 weeks!))
the losses will start to slow down more and more as they have been over the weeks...but its ok! i'm doing this for my ds and future children! oh ok, and for me!

oh and yes, i have loads more to go!

as far as ds Fynn....
he seems to be growing into quite the personality these days. its so amazing to see the new facial expressions, sounds, the little things he likes from one day to the next.

over the past week, he's been soooo grumpy at night and has started to wake again screaming. well, i felt terrible yesterday when i was playing with him on the floor...he was leaning over my head with his drooling gob open...i found 4 more teeth popping thru the top!! this makes 8! it will look cute and funny cos he only has 2 at the bottom hehehe...will have 6 on top. heheh sorry i cant stop giggling as i'm typing, just thinking about it. ;)

on the mobility front, still just cruising the furniture and will stand and take steps when we hold his hands fo balance. and on rare occassion, he will balance while standing on his own ...but only for a second or two! and splat! right back on the bum. i think he prefers crawling anyways because he knows he gets around much faster. besides, im not quite ready to house proof that much more! i only just got it sorted for this crawling business!

One thing that im unsure to be concerned about is a biting thing that he's started to do! like when dh is holding him, ds will try to bite his nose tip...doesnt seem to be in an agressive way. and the same like when he's standing up against my legs, he'll bite! feels like pinching! ouch! Is this a phase that they go through?? anyone else experiencing this?

MunkiBaby · 15/07/2007 16:44

just a quick addition to my (already) very lengthy "catch-up" post:
dh asked me about haking bebe number two, the other day.

he says he reckons we should try again in late november/december again...somehow the idea of having another september baby seems to make sense to him or perhaps novelty?

i really dont mind to be honest...just the idea of having another is very exciting.

oh!!!! im so sorry i forgot to ask!!! BRISTOLS! how are you getting on so far, hun?!??!

Coriander73 · 15/07/2007 16:48

Congratulations on the weight loss Munki!! Bloody fantastic..keep it up!! Also, September babies are great..I have two..(as you can see that's the only time of year we have SEX!!)

OP posts:
MunkiBaby · 15/07/2007 16:59

LOL cori! i'll have to steal that line from you and use it should i actually get another sept baby.

and i agree, sept baby o' mine is lovely...why wouldnt i want another?!?

bristols · 15/07/2007 19:20

Munki - I'm fine thank you. Having scan on Friday so it'll be nice to see the little one and make sure everything's ok. Will also be interesting to see what due date they give me. I only had one period after having DS and getting pg again so I have no idea how long my cycle is!

Our original plan was to start trying again at the end of the year so we would have had another September baby. If DS is anything to go by, they seem to be very chilled out. Also, as a Virgo myself, I feel it's good to add a few more to the population!

KK - My DS has 20oz milk per day and, according to the literature, that is the minimum they should have at this age. More at six months. Don't worry about what they said. You're doing a great job.

Hope the jazz festival was good.

DS has another tooth coming through and it has really been upsetting him. Thank heavens for medised

bristols · 15/07/2007 19:23

BTW, Munki, well done on the weight loss. I have to say two stone in four weeks does sound rather extreme! But I do know that a good kick start with these things gives you the enthusiasm to keep going. Good for you

zmandaz · 15/07/2007 20:04

Hi, we're back from our hols and have had a fantastic time. I would highly recommend our trip to anyone, we stayed at the Club Voyage in Torba, Turkey on an all-inclusive one week break. It wasn't so much a hotel as apartments, and there were loads of them but they were really well sound-proofed. There were loads of activities for children and DD got loads of attention from the locals (I wish she had that effect on Men in England!!!) The food was great and the temperature was scorching as they were having a heat wave. The day we left it was 38 degrees and apparantly, the week before we went it got up into the 60's! Even the locals were struggling. There was plenty of shade though and DD managed really well. She tried loads of new foods and mastered drinking juice from a beaker which was a relief! I was slightly miffed that my friend got two marriage proposals in a week from the locals and I didn't get any but I think they assumed that I was married with having DD with me. Ah well, I won't lose any sleep.

My ex-h pleaded guilty so we're just waiting to hear what his sentance is but it's likely he'll just get a slap on the wrist. There is now a restraining order in place though so if he comes into North Yorkshire, he can be arrested and put in prison. I hope that's enough to keep him away.

The diet's gone to-pot since going on holiday but I really must get back into the swing of things as I was really pleased with losing the weight before I went.

Hope everyone's well. Wish it would stop raining

bristols · 15/07/2007 21:14

zmandaz - Glad you had a good time. Am very envious. Who did you book it with? We're hoping to go away in October and that sort of thing sounds ideal. Always good to go somewhere with a recommendation.

Hope things stay calm with your ex-h...

mabel1973 · 16/07/2007 08:44

KK - that doesn't sound like much milk at all to sustain a 6 month old! i am assuming they can't be eating that much yet either! My neice was drinking 9 oz at each feed at that age!

Cori - i am with you on confiscating things. When it comes to party bags, i check whats in them 1st before they can have them. DS1 has sweets but it's usually chocolate buttons every now and then (usually courtesy of my mum!), he had smarties once and after that i said NEVER AGAIN! (although i know they've changed them now), i think colourings in things like haribo and fizzy drinks are very unhealthy for small children.

Well it was ds1's pre-school sports day on saturday, he had to do runnning, egg and spoon and a couple of other races....he didn't start a single one - bless him! At the end of the day he's 2.5 yo, i think it's a lot to ask! He still got a certificate and a medal.
We took them both swimming yesterday, DS2 is now really getting the hang of it, kicking his legs, so i got him some arm bands to try, all was going well, till he did a poo in the pool and i had to whisk him out quick sharp!!!!
He is now doing very well with his cruising and trying to climb up on everything. He has also perfected a particularly good 'growl' which he's learnt at playgroup from when we sing 'old macdonald' (he has a lion on his farm), and he now waves everytime we walk past our front door! v cute!

Coriander73 · 16/07/2007 09:32

Thank goodness I'm not alone Mabel!

I need some advice: DD is to start at a playgroup pre-school in September 3 mornings a week. This means we are taking her out of her nursery where she's been since 5 months old as a) playgroup is much much cheaper & b) it has a better ofsted report for the pre-school section. I am still toying with the idea of leaving her in nursery one morning a week but I don't know whether it'd better just to make a clean break & focus soley on the new playgroup? J will still be doing his two mornings a week anyhow....DH says to do what I want...obviously money wise it'll be better if she didn't given that the funding wont start till Jan 08 (the cut of date is 31st Aug..DD bday is the 4th Sep..how annoying is that?!!!!!) I don't know whether it is just me that is finding it hard to let go..it's all she & I have known from a baby & it makes me feel slightly sad DH says to get over it (!!) & move on but I want to do what's best for her, even if we struggle financially until Jan 08. Advice needed!

Bristols - we booked through Thomas Cook who I would highly recommend. They were brilliant from the start and the rep was on hand throughout the week at the resort but we didn't have any problems. We went in on the day we were due to leave to get our currency and they'd sold out at both the branches in our town, so the guy rang the airport and asked them to put some aside for us to collect when we got there. I'm sure that's a standard thing to do but it was so helpful. The only things I'd change if I were to book again would be to book extra leg room seats as we flew on a Thomas Cook Airlines plane which was tiny and very cramped when you have a baby strapped to you! Also, I'd either choose a daytime flight on the way home or pay extra to have the hotel room for the day as we had to be out of the room by 12 noon but our pick up for the airport wasn't until 1:30am so there was a lot of waiting around on the last day. I so want to go back! We paid just under £350 each including DD for fully inclusive and it was brilliant value for money.

fairysnuff · 16/07/2007 11:07

Woohoo! I am going on holiday!
FIL booked a villa in Portugal.
Don't think I will worry too much about the fact that Maddy was taken there. You can't let these awful people stop you, you'd never leave the house.
Luckily we were able to find flights from Abedeen too, so it means less traveling for us cos PIL live close to the airport.
The villa is only 50 miles away from the airport, so that is good too. All the ones I was finding were miles and miles away and flying out from Glasgow or Edinburgh so it would have meant a heck of a lot of travelling before we even got there!

I was unsure about going all inclusive at a busy hotel.
When we were in Turkey last year we felt so sorry for the people with babies who had rooms at the poolside and the noisy music was blaring. We wondered how they managed to sleep at all?
The poolside was also really noisy during the day, too noisy for us, we decamped to the beach. I wondered how you would cope with a LO crawling around, possibly annoying people, and the general stress of saftey?
But you found it to be ok, zmandaz?

Coriander73 · 16/07/2007 11:16

Where about's in Portugal? We're going to be 20 km from the Spanish boarder...I love Portugal..& no, you can't worry about Maddy...it's like not worrying about using the tube after 7/7 etc...(do so hope she's found safe & well)

Still need advice..

fairysnuff · 16/07/2007 11:22

Near lagos?
Geography is rubbish, so not sure where it is really!
Thats bad, I must find out!!

Not sure I can help with choosing the nursery, think I would be tempted to take her to both for a bit to aclimatise(sp?) her, and you, to both, before giving up which ever one you then chose to. Pos even just for a couple of weeks or so?

mabel1973 · 16/07/2007 11:26

cori - DS1 started pre-school after xmas (just 1 session) and i was very worried as he had never done anything without me or close family (he'd never been to nursery and all the playgroups we attended were mother and child groups), he was absolutely fine. I am assuming that it is attached to the school she will eventually attend? If that's the case it means she will start making friends with people she will evetually go to school with so that's got to be good?

Coriander73 · 16/07/2007 11:51

No, the playgroup is independant of any school so she can stay there until she is 5 - unless I apply for her to have a place at the nursery in 2 of 4 local schools when she is 4. Basically she could also stay at the nursery which also goes up to 5 but since my leaving work we've had to reasess money etc so playgroup is a lot cheaper but wondering whether I should still let her do at least one morning there still to keep options open etc...just don't know. I think DH thinkds I should just break with the nursery & let her concentrate on playgroup. Her closest little friend will still be doing one day at the same nursery but then pre-school at another school whereas another three very good friends are all leaving end of August to join a different pre-school altogether. I think there is one other girl currently at the nursery who will start the same playgroup as DD so she will see a familiar face etc....

OP posts:
compo · 16/07/2007 12:44

Cori - I think I agree with your dh and it's probably best to make a clean break. Is she eligible to have 5 free sessions a week yet? That will really help you out as then you'll just have the one every morning or afternoon!

Coriander73 · 16/07/2007 12:49

She doesn't qualify for funding until Jan 08!! The cut of date for this year is 31st August & DD is 3 on 4th Sep.................ARGGHHHHH!!!!!!! So we'll be paying a full term until Christmas at the playgroup then she have free sessions whereas do we pay a nursery session a week too or just leave it from Sep?? Why am I so confused about this issue?!!!!!!!

OP posts:
mabel1973 · 16/07/2007 13:34

i don't know what to suggest, but will they let you take her as couple of times 1st to see how she gets on.
Can i ask how you get the funded places? DS1 will qualify after xmas, so i am going to increase his sessions, but i have no idea how i apply..or do i just get them through pre-school?

compo · 16/07/2007 13:36

Mabel - I think it's all sorted out by the preschool but I'm not definite on that.
Cori - I still think it would be best to have her go there for 3 sessionas a week and then increase to the 5 free ones in January.
I know what you mean about cut off dates. ds just missed out on his starting this term by one day

zmandaz · 16/07/2007 20:16

Fairysnuff - we didn't find the noise a problem at all, even though the place was packed. There were several pools in the hotel complex and we went to a smaller one near our apartment. The only problem we had with the pools was that people were reserving sun loungers overnight, even though it told you not to so it was hard to find anywhere to sit after your swim. There was no-one to enforce the rule so they got away with it. Also, we were in a first floor apartment which was really well soundproofed but I'm not sure how the ground floor ones would have been. The thing that struck me was how few British tourists were there and I liked the fact that they didn't try to cater to our tastes with the food, it was just a case of, this is how we eat. I enjoyed trying their local dishes etc. I hope you have a great holiday, I've never been to Portugal but would love to go one day.

zmandaz · 16/07/2007 20:18

Oh, and as for the Maddy thing, I think it really struck us how careful you have to be because DD being quite blonde now with blue eyes got an awful lot of attention both from the staff and other tourists. It's a totally different culture out there and they think nothing to wanting cuddles and taking photos. I think that you definitely can't let these things stop you from going but you just have to be really careful whilst your there.

mabel1973 · 17/07/2007 11:09

well i just put my washing out and it is now tipping it down...but still sunny. Anyone know when summer is going to start this year.
DS2 is teething again, the last 2 nights he has woken up in absolute agony, he seems to suffer much more then DS1 ever did, he has also got nasty nappies and his poor little bum is bright red.

Can i ask cloth nappy users..where do you buy your nappy liners?
I usually buy PHP flushable ones, but it is a pain having to send off for them, so i bought some boots ones last week only to find they aren't flushable, so rather than chuck the whole lot down the loo i have to put the poo down the loo (if it comes off!...sorry TMI) and i have to put the liner in a nappy bag...which seems a bit silly to me?!

kreamkrackers · 17/07/2007 11:39

i use fleece liners. when they have a poo i get the shower that's attached to the bath to the toilet and wash the liner with this then chuck it in the nappy bucket. i've already bought an attachment for the loo to shower the nappies with for when we move house, it's from the babykind website.

i found the paper liners to be rubbish and you can get loads of lovely fleece liners from ebay, i think they're about 99p for 5 but that doesn't include postage. they dry really quickly so you don't need loads. have also found them to come in handy when dd2 got nappy rash the other day i dipped them in to camomile tea once it had cooled down and i decided to dry them out in the end before using them and her bums cleared up quickly (but she also had a lot of nappy free time as well). silk liners are meant to be really good for nappy rash but i don't have any.

did anyone see fight for life lastnight? it made me really sad as there's a possibility dd1 might need a transplant when she's older, i cried so much watching it it's amazing these things can be done, dd1 has a cows jugular to make a conduit in her heart to help the blood go back around to the lungs before it leaves the heart and this has stopped her needing a new heart from when she was a baby. they also said something like they took the protein out of it to stop her being on anti rejection drugs (that's if i got that right) so the only medication she's on is asprin and her high calorie milk that stinks!

fairysnuff · 17/07/2007 12:34

soaking them in cooled camolmile tea?
I haven't heard that one.
I use fleece liners too, but I just cut my own. It's dead easy, cos fleece doesn't need sewing. Just make one template and cut out as many as you need.
