Hello...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
nally · 30/05/2007 12:35

dd2 is waking at about 6am, then back to sleep, waking at about 7.30am, then awake until about 11am, for about 2 hours, then awake until bedtime at 7pm, with maybe a snooze of about 10 mins at about 4pm (which she refuses to go to bed for!) cheeky madam. too nosey for her own good!

bristols · 30/05/2007 13:50

Tassis - Yes, we're off to Mum and Dad's. While we're there, we're all going a bit further south to the Charente for four days. I'm hoping the weather pick up. Its freezing here today! And very wet. Hope the ferry crossing is OK...

T42 - I have a perfect Gina baby too. Lovely!

Mabel - sorry you had such a bad night last night. I don't have any advice, I'm afraid. Why don't you start another thread? I'm sure there'll be someone to help you. DS does this very occasionally. I had to leave him to vry himself to sleep the other day I felt dreadful, but thankfully he only cried for about ten minutes.

I really ought to go. I have lots of ironing and packing to do. Ugh. Lucky old DH just goes off to work and comes home and it's all done. But that's another story...

Coriander73 · 30/05/2007 14:20

Sorry to hear of your bad night Mabel.. ...don't quite know what to suggest other than perhaps it was just one bad night? You know how fickle they are at times..no sooner do you get used to a certain routine then they start something new! Perhaps he just had a bad day & was just being extra clingy? Not sure if that helps.

Re naps DD who is 2.8 never naps! DS naps twice a day 9ish for an hour & after lunch 12.30ish for an hour or two.

T42, I also used to watch EE but then found it too was making me quite depressed so stopped! That was about 3 years ago....I do however have a penchant for Corrie!!!!!

Welcome to nally too I was wondering what happened to bella too....??

Well done Cori, a whole post without any digging only joking!
Must admit we love Corination Street, makes England seem a lot closer, we are a fair way behind, Charlie has only just started fooling around with Maria.
DS has started camando crawling, he seems very pleased with himself and the general whining has stopped
He has the top two teeth coming through so my Mum sent over another couple of tubes of Bonjela as nothing else seems to hit the spot.
We took DS out for lunch last Saturday to our local Japanese, it turns out he has a taste for Miso soup! His face was a picture, smacking his lips together and tugging on DH for more.
Welcome to JenT and Nally

compo · 30/05/2007 14:57

my dd still isn't very good at naps. She had half an hour this morning in the pushchair and probably 20 minutes in the cot after lunch before she screamed the house down as she was on her front !! 3 year old ds, on the other hand, fell asleep on the sofa whilst watching Beebies and has been there since 1.30pm She really should learn a thing or two off him!

Mabel - it does sound like it might be just a blip and hopefully tonight things will have improved. I will keep my fingers crossed for you xxx

Coriander73 · 30/05/2007 15:07

Are you an only child then Ivor?!

Those of you with boys....is it true that they like big tonka cars / trucks more than anything? My MIL stopped me buying a nice wooden car the other day because she said it didn't do anything & what boys most like & want is things to open (like doors & windows etc) & pull! Is that so?

OP posts:
compo · 30/05/2007 15:08

yes sadly your MIL is probably right, I hate it when that happens

Ivor · 30/05/2007 15:15

No, what do you mean by that

mabel1973 · 30/05/2007 15:23

Cori - DS1 has been obsessed with anything with wheels since before he could walk. He used to turn his trolley over and just spin the wheels before he could push it.
Ds2 looks like he is going the same way....he goes for DS1's cars rather than his baby toys.

Ivor · 30/05/2007 15:26

I was speed reading the posts since Sunday, which there are a lot of, and just picked up on the past the shovel comment from Bristols.
No offence intended, are you saying I'm odd?

Ivor · 30/05/2007 15:27

Mabel, DS does that with wheels too, loves anything he can spin around in his fingers.

Coriander73 · 30/05/2007 15:29

Don't you just hate it when MIL knows better?!!! Well, she did have two boys I suppose... Such a difference with DD (who is nearly 3). She just loves her dolls, dressing up shoes, pretend tea parties with her teddies & everything has to be pink - that is not through us pushing any of the above but just her drawn to these things...how does that happen??!!!

Ivor, I wasn't quite sure what you meant by digging until I re-read an earlier post where I was talking about only children! What were you inferring if not?

OP posts:
Ivor · 30/05/2007 15:40

I'm going to log off before I piss anyone else off

JenT · 30/05/2007 15:47

I have to say corri that the bigger chunkier and least damagable the better, I try to be so open minded about what toys Benjamin would want but it has been transport based all the way, tractors diggers, dump trucks, airplains, cars, trains oohh I could go on forever!

Happy shopping!
Jen x

HenriettaHippo · 30/05/2007 17:06

Oh help, so many messages, can't keep up!!!

Daytimes, F has a nap somewhere between 9 and 10 for about 45 mins - an hour, although often I have to wake him up as we have to go out... Then another long one after lunch, around 1 until about 3. He's pretty much a GF baby as well on his timings, and I find it helps knowing when ish he'll sleep as I can plan things to do with DS1 around it. Although he'll sleep in the buggy happily, but not for as long - on those days he often has another nap in the afternoon for half an hour to an hour or so. I've been lucky, both my boys seem to have inherited my 'sleepy' genes. DS1 dropped any day time naps when he was 2 1/2, when DS2 was about 6 weeks old. That was HARD!!

Ivor and Cori, looks like a misunderstanding lower down! No wonder you couldn't keep track, there are so many posts this week! I got lost...!

Hello JenT and Nally (but I think you've popped in before Nally?)

Toys - DS1 likes toy cars that have doors and windows that open, or that you can sit on. The thing he's played with most is a big tractor for the garden. He LOVES it, and has done for over a year now. He's not a child to sit and play with anything quietly much, he runs about and climbs etc. rather than doing puzzles (shame...!!). Is that a boy thing too?

Mabel, does staying in DS's room for a few minutes pottering about after he's in bed help? Kind of gradual withdrawal? Not much help for when you're on your own though, sorry. When DH puts Fraser to bed, I can't go in afterwards to say goodnight, or he cries, but if he doesn't see me it's ok.

We don't have family nearby either, M&D south of London, FIL north of London (but not really a contender for babysitting anyway), DB in Rhodes, SIL in Cape Town and BIL in Sydney!! But I did set up a baby sitting circle with my post natal group - it works really well, so I don't usually have to pay for a sitter.

Phew, long one....!!!

nally · 30/05/2007 17:38

hi HH - yes, i pop in occasionally!!! dd2 has her x-ray tomorrow to look at her hips. have been calling her Hippy Chick for the last month!!!!!

tassis · 30/05/2007 18:04

well dd has been grotty since 4pm so i'm escaping and leaving her with daddy for an hour!

sorry you're having rough nights mabel, hope it's just a phase.

bristols - my dh has the same approach to packing and I end up doing it for all four of it. I find it such a stress.

Cori - vehicles have been big for ds from about 8 months and he's now 4. Most played with include the Bob vehicles, Pat's van, various fire engines, a London bus from Harrods, the Brio train track (or tesco version of) with Thomas trains. And our best sit-upon is the wee wooden Galt trike with plastic wheels that is great indoors and out...ds still loves it!

nally - hope the xray is good tomorrow.

dd has 2 naps of somewhere between 45 mins and 2 hours each. ds was a Gina baby, I'm a bit more flexible with dd. Ds had a lunchtime sleep until after his 3rd birthday so I have high expectations for dd...which leads me to wonder whether siblings are most likely to be similar sleep-wise, is this everyone else's experience? Mine are certainly doing similar things so far...

HenriettaHippo · 30/05/2007 18:31

tassis, mine too are similar on sleep. Both good in the day, and I think DS2 is actually better than DS1. However, DS2 is more likely to be awake in the night, but not crying - on Saturday we were sharing a room with him at friends', and he was awake from 2.30 - 3.20, singing, cooing, laughing, and scratching the side of his travel cot. Soooo annoying - he didn't even need us but we were WIDE awake!!! Would have been very cute if it hadn't been the middle of the night, and we hadn't only gone to bed after midnight after a few wines... And then he was awake for the day at 6.30...

On GF, DS1 was strictly "Gina'd", I have been much more relaxed with DS2, and as a result he is much more relaxed too, and doesn't lose it if his nap is delayed by half an hour, or he isn't in his cot when he wants to drop off!! Likewise, I don't panic if he falls asleep when he's not 'meant to'!!! It all works out in the end...

bristols · 30/05/2007 20:04

Nally - my DS had his hips xrayed on Friday. It took... ooh... all of 5 seconds!

It seems that all is well. Haven't had the official report yet, but got a friend at the hospital to have a look and he thinks it looks OK.

I love the fact that DS is in such a good routine and that we both know where we are. I am trying to become more and more relaxed, though. I am very conscious of becoming obsessed with it all.

Am trying to encourage him to feed himself a bit more now. He ate half a chopped up banana earlier, all on his own. V proud It feels as though he's getting all grown up now...

Marls001 · 30/05/2007 21:43

Re: Tonkas -

Agree.

And not too much later, it'll be Thomas trains!!

DS1 has learned to cross his fingers & calls the crossed fingers the "3-Thousand Monster 3-Thousand". He then points & "shoots" with his fingers as though his hand were a gun. He makes up these gadget names for his block sculptures and it's always "3 thousand." Like "That's a Record-Machine-3000."

That's what I get for exposing him to Chuck Berry

We're in a part of the US where hunting is extremely popular - probably picked up "gun" from Mother's Day Out classmate

Marls001 · 30/05/2007 21:44

Bristols - Glad all is well!!

Nally - Keep us posted! Hope all's all right.

MunkiBaby · 30/05/2007 23:00

Oh wow!... its taken me at least 30 minutes to catch up from just 1 day! It's like MN gone wild or something. hehehe

Well, i had some things to comment on last night. but when i came back to the laptop, SKY (broadband) decided it wasnt going to cooperate...and it hasnt since then, until tonight! so irritated about it. Needless to say, my comments are old news now so im starting fresh again.

oh, the better side of not having internet all day was that i finished the decorating in the bathrooom today during nap times. now it will be another month before i finish stripping the wallpaper out of the kitchen.

MunkiBaby · 30/05/2007 23:10

on a telly topic
i popped over to the ((dont hate me )) Big Brother thread just at 9pm, when it started. I couldnt resist. the commentary and posts were coming very fast so it was hard to keep up...but worth it as it was very humourous.

As with every year, i SWORE that i wouldnt start watching it this year... i'll test out a couple more days and see if it reels me in.

but i didnt hesitate to turn over to Ugly Betty for far better viewing.

mabel1973 · 31/05/2007 13:10

Munki - i came in from yoga and DH was watching BB last night, we normally watch the apprentice - what a bunch of fame hungry idiots.....i know i am going to get drawn in...resistance is futile...arrrrgghh!

Cori and Ivor...I must have missed something, I am sure nothing was meant on either part...

Dh has thrown away our high chair.! It was a booster seat that strapped on to the dining room chair, but the bottom strap had broken and when DS slid out of it for the second time on sunday, he decided it was going in the bin, so until we get another one, i am feeding him in his Bumbo, which is fine when i spoon feeding, but self feeding becomes a very messy affair! He had toast and houmous today and his trousers are covered and the bumbo still has crusty weetabix welded to it from this monring!

DH put DS2 to bed last night, as an experiment and he did yell for about 5 mintes, but then all was quiet, so bedtime is now DH's Job....I usually put both boys to bed, so really he ought to do at least one of them, at least he doesn't have to do stories as well with DS2!

tassis · 31/05/2007 14:25

mabel - that's great that your dh can do bedtimes now. have to agree re cleaning the bumbo...ours was on loan from my SIL and I keep meaning to give it a proper clean before giving it back and it's just been sitting my the sink for days!

had lucy weighed this morning. she's always been a petite thing, not weighed since 6 months when I'd just started weaning. She was exclusively BF until then and only 14 lbs...I thought she might be 16/17 today. She was 19lbs 7!! She does eat a lot. So much for me thinking she'd be rear facing until after her birthday!

Have to get an outfit for a wedding. Keep seeing lovley dresses but really need to get separates so I can BF easily. Have 3 weeks to get it nailed. Just popped into our shops here (smallish town) and there's nothing so I'm going to hit Glasgow on Saturday. Need to break the news to dh!
