I was brave and started a new thread!

Good point I'll have to lower the cot when I get back home! Although pulling up is still too hard for him, its pushing up from sitting that seems to be the way to go. Really really not on though he is 18 weeks fgs! Ah well so much fun though to watch the look of concentration as he tries to get his balance and the huge grins and giggles when he sort of gets it.

Anyway lunch time then I shall pack my boy off with my dad for a good long walk.

Elibean · 18/05/2007 14:18

Blimey, you lot have advanced babies - I'm keeping dd away from them, in case she learns (or yearns) to do more than she can already

Mind you, she does love to thrust up from my lap into standing - and will constantly try and stand up in the bath. Bumbo in bath sounds excellent, have you tried it yourself, Castles? Am going to, tonight.

Last night both times she woke she was at almost right angles with head against bars in cot

dd1 was not early with gross motor stuff (another story with language and fiddly things). This one, whether because of having a big sister or not, is showing signs of getting into everything much faster...sigh...

jabberwocky · 18/05/2007 14:45

DS1 was an early crawler and walked at 8 1/2 months! We thought it was cute but then realized ot was much harder chasing him around. Ds2 seems a bit more lazy although up hourly between 1:00 and 6:00 am so I am totally knackered today.

As far as 3 and 4 year olds...there are days where I just want to pinch ds1's head off I'm so tired of all the battles, questions and the whole second-time potty training. Of course just when I'be reached the end of my rope he'll say something like "You look really pretty today mommy"

Have hired a new p-t nanny for the days I work. Had a real saga w/ the other one. she left, came back, left again w/ 4 days notice She's fallen in love w/ some islander she met on vacation in British Virgin Islands She's 59 years old and has put a for sale sign in the yard of her house and left the country! Anyway, the kids took to the new one right away so here's hoping she works out.

SachaF · 18/05/2007 15:19

Jabber - do these babies not read the milestone guides!
mine is quite happy on the floor, pushing himself backwards or rolling over (1 way only) or trapped in his door bouncer when he wants to be upright - he can get quite a bounce going.

magnolia1 · 18/05/2007 16:08

Well ds1 has 4 older sisters but is quite happy to still lay on his back He tries to roll but can't. He likes to stand holding my hands but thats it!!! No crawling or sitting and he is one of the oldest out of our babies. Lazy like his father

{{{{Get well vibes}}}} to the poorly mums and babes.
I would send sleep vibes but I don't have any

magnolia and sacha - sounds like our babies are on the same track. With ds1 being such a wild man it's OK w/ me

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 18/05/2007 20:02

I have a lazy babe - no sitting for her (although she can do a caterpillar move on her back)

DH & my brother are teaching her to play Mariocart

jabberwocky · 18/05/2007 21:58

magnolia1 · 18/05/2007 22:21

yes on the sleeping

babypowder · 18/05/2007 22:40

I'm dipping out now. Have a great week. Try not to cover too many topics, or I'll never catch up

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 19/05/2007 10:19

unchief - my brother has bought the nintendo wii and it's like go cart racing. dh had dd2 on his lap and playing it - I was not impressed

Another sporting afternoon - FA Cup final day - which means dh will look after ds whilst I get things done - however dh does chat to ds as well and play with him on the floor rather than just prop him in front of the footy! The differing levels of childcare between partners!

Indith · 19/05/2007 11:56

Sport on TV is great isn't it! Ds is currently visiting the police station with mum's Brownies I need to forage for food then revise Downs Syndrome, after which I will be quite scarily done, just writing and re-writing everything I know about everything until I stop forgetting bits!

Ds has sadly not given up on standing overnight, every time I sat him on my lap this morning he wasn't happy until he had managed to thrust up into standing. Not that the balance thing is improving yet! Bless the determined little thing.

Elibean · 19/05/2007 17:11

I should have kept my mouth shut about continental time-tables: dd2 got up at 6am this morning and it was dh's turn for a lie-in. Of course

The antibiotic thing is proving so traumatic for all concerned, and so wasteful, that we're binning it. Apart from anything else, we've hardly any of it left as she spits out so much that we've used five days' worth in less than three days Reflux meds have given her practise at spitting, and five syringefulls of penicillin four times a day on top of them...well, its non-stop.

I'm not convinced it isn't eczema, either - looks just like it, red dry blotches rather than weepy sores IYSWIM

She hates it, it tastes horrible, stains everything in sight, and gives her non stop diarrhoea, and therefore nasty nappy rash. Enuf. So I'm taking the medical bull by the horns and applying fucidin cream today instead...seems to be working already...

But if she wakes up with a giant weeping scab on her tomorrow I promise to take her back to GP on Monday, and report myself to the HV. Gulp.

SachaF · 19/05/2007 20:12

DS's exzema has cleared up hugely since I gave up wheat 2 weeks ago (plus his breathing has improved, and he has slept better for almost a week now as he doesn't keep needing to do painful farts in the night), I am only applying cream twice a week now! (rather than 2-3 x a day). Hopefully will get a letter from the dietician to help a) me with gluten free alternatives and maybe b) with weaning. I am just so pleased I am not having to get up every 90 mins or 2 hours to resettle him as he was in pain, I can cope with this 2 feedings a night bit much easier, and the feedings now take a lot less time, no 1 hour night feedings now, no need to take his nappy off in the middle of the night and pump his legs for ten minutes, just 30 minutes of feed, cuddle, burp and back to bed, far nicer!

Elibean · 19/05/2007 22:21

Wow, Sacha, thats great. I'm so glad you found some solutions! Not sure whether to try dietary changes here, dd has been having about 40% formula for the 2 or 3 weeks (she's six months next week). She's had a much more settled digestion too, but that seems to have coincided with starting solids - which is exactly what happened with dd1. Both had silent reflux, so I assume thats why the solids help.

No dietary sensitivities in our family, so not sure where I would start - but will bear in mind if eczema looks like taking off (so far very mild indeed, unless the face blotches are eczema - GP says they're a bacterial infection, but ).

Well done for dropping the wheat, enjoy your feeds tonight

SachaF · 20/05/2007 20:15

I guess everyone's been enjoying the sun today?!
We had a lovely baby bbq to go to this afternoon, it was great as the hubbies / partners were there too rather than just us mums having a coffee afternoon.
I know my baby is the youngest of that group (some are just turning 6 months) but I am the only one who hasn't weaned yet - I found that quite suprising! (but I'm not judging! ) I know there are various reasons why people wean early, including medical reasons, but out of 7 babies is it suprising that only 1 hasn't (so far) been weaned before 6 months? Mind you I am adamant I am waiting (atm) due to all the food intolerances in the family! If it wasn't for those I would probably see everyone else doing it and copy them. Anyone else feel like this if they haven't weaned yet?

accessorizewithbabysick · 20/05/2007 21:46

Yes, absolutely Sacha, I'm the only one waiting out of my entire baby massage group. Can hear the hv's all saying, well is she on 3 meals a day when I know the babies are 4 months! But I did give in this weekend, he's 24 weeks & the hourly feeding much of the time has done me in! So bnut squash & carrot yesterday and today, I'm taking it really slow but my god does he want to stuff his face, couldn't shovel it in fast enough. He was getting v.upset every time we sat him in his chair at the dinner table.

Well done on giving up wheat, that must be hard, can't imagine what I'd eat!

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 20/05/2007 23:38

Hello - it's been quiet this weekend

It was my sisters 30th b'day this weekend so had family over. My mum had a 3x 2yos and 1 x 5yo stay last night (along with 9 adults). Complete chaos today. Thankfully the people who bought our house paid for us to stay in a hotel last night as we moved early for their convenience, so at least we got a hot shower and a nice breakfast today. Then we went to another family do at 3pm today.

Although dd1 went into meltdown today as she was so tired.

I am now off to bed too

Milkshake Where are you?

I've been waiting too - for weaning that is. Ds2 turns 6 months on Tuesday so I have some pears on the windowsill getting good and ripe and bought some sweet potatoes today.

Better sleeping last night, but I daren't hope for it tonight. Mustn't jinx anything

Cocobabe · 21/05/2007 09:42

morning all ..

hope u all had a lovely w/e in the sun !

Ds new sleep routine is from 8pm till-12 for feed then resttles an hr later then wakes up at 4am for anoter feed and resettles an hr later then wake for day between 6-7am . I preferred it when he only woke up once in the night ! ..do anyone of you wake your babies to feed to avoid them waking up in the night for feeds ?..i was tempted last night to wake him up at 10.30pm to give him a dream feed thinking that i would only have get up once to feed him in the night . Does that sound mean ?

Indith · 21/05/2007 09:46

Where did my sleep vibes go?

Oh yes I gave them back, well that was daft. After a good week and a half of just the one waking around 4/4.30 have had 2 nights of 2 wakings and early rising. Humph. Exam this pm, just written out everything I know for the millionth time and I appear to actually know it but exam not til 2.30!

I'm waiting for weaning too and so many people at my group have started early because of babies waking in the night having slept through before etc etc. Just feel like slapping some of them and telling them that it is a growth spurt just deal with it! Big difference between weaning early for medical reasons and weaning early because the baby doesn't fit into your lifestyle (By early I mean 4 months or so) One person there had hers on 3 meals a day and only 2 bf by the timne he turned 5 months! Still there is a nice little group of us renegades so its ok!

I have the HV coming to talk to me about weaning soon, she tried to come last week. Letter addressed to me only came on Monday so of course DP didn't open it then another one came on Friday addressed to 'The parents of....' which he did open saying that she had called as arranged on Wed but we were not in. A little more than 2 days notice would have been nice! Ah well, she is apparently a student HV who i've not seen before, maybe I did scare my other one off with my lack of fear of the red book!

Ds was very pleased with himself this morning, he stood without mummy supporting him leaning on the chair making faces at daddy. I'm doomed aren't I.
