I was brave and started a new thread!

routine, schmoootine GS! I try and I try and he undermines every attempt. I try the whole feed/play/sleep thing all day, but as he's decided since the w/e to feed every hour half the day and every 90 mins the other half I'm stuffed. Naps last 20-30 mins, once a week he surprises me with an hour or so, and he is now, yay! I agree with you that some babies just don't work well with routines (my ds1 was the same) or just take longer to settle into one.

lfm, sorry to hear the monitor still going off, have you considered moving the cot into your room again to make it easier on you?

Oli, commiserations on the housemove, but where is margo??

Eli, mag1, ummm, anyone else with non-sleeping babies >

Not much to report, after a week of comfy lovely breastfeeding I've got thrush and it hurts like hell (as in sobbing this morning). Trying to avoid the shields again but gave in for one feed today. Hopefully the daktarin will start working soon!

And my god do I want to start weaning this week, if this schedule of feeds (let me see that would make it 9 feeds in 12 hours yesterday!!!!!!!) keeps up he's getting mashed banana by the w/end!

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 10/05/2007 17:50

here I am!

exchanged today

moving to my mums on monday

dd2 is cutting a tooth and she's grouchy - this doesn't help with the packing!

Yay Margo on the exchanging!
Here's sleep vibes to hope that the teething doesn't cause you problems tonight {{{{sleeeeeeep}}}}

Indith · 11/05/2007 08:57

Fab news Margo.

Ds fell asleep in his bath last night and woke up again at 3.30am Of course after sleeping for 9 hours straight he felt it unreasonable of me to expect him to sleep more and only dropped off again at 5.30.

judemum · 11/05/2007 09:39

Hello everyone. Been trying to catch up on all your news, but there's a lot of it. Glad to see you're all well. Sorry not posted for about 3 months- just never seemed to get the time in between naps. Anyway, We're doing fine. started weening a few weeks ago and seems to be going down a treat. had a couple of nights when he's slept through but generally still wakes once for a feed.

judemum · 11/05/2007 09:42

nearly had a car crash on weds though. Was zooming along a country lane at 50 with baby and two cats in the car when the steering failed. Luckily managed to zoom up a farmers track (does this mean anything to you urbanites?!). Man from the AA turned out to be a complete arse and told me they only deal in "breakdowns" and as the car still moved, albeit without reliable steering, in his view it was not broken down. Had to stop myself clawing his face open and convinced him to rescue me and tow the car to the garage, arse. Anway, been carless for the past few days and hence finally getting back to seeing how you all are!

babypowder · 11/05/2007 10:08

Good on ya, Margo!

Judemum! What a shock for you - so glad you're all safe. And lovely to hear from you again

I'm frantically preparing for the June invasion. For one week, starting 9th June, I am going to be besieged with the PILs, my 2 oldest friends from Canada (1 pregnant, 1 with 2 month old) and my eldest Step-child, alongside the usual contingent of DD1 and DD2 + random SDs. We only have 3 bedrooms, for heaven's sake!

And, typically, in prepping the smallest bedroom (was DD1s nursery), I pulled off the Winnie the Pooh border - and half the paint beneath it. I knew I had spare paint in the shed, but it has de-emulsified, and I've been stirring it and stirring it, and it won't go smooth again. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I know I won't get the same colour paint anymore, and I really don't want to completely redecorate. What am I going to do????????

Cocobabe · 11/05/2007 10:12

gr8 news on the exchange at last margo !!

Jude , must have been frightening for you & the kids having come close to crash ..thank goodness youre all safe - the aa man does sounds like an a* ! U would think the AA would be more obliging to rescue a damsel in distress with kids ...

ds slept from 8.30pm to 5.45am ! so pretty pleased with him for that ! Just as well I have dd1 with me at home today ( she is normally at nursery).

Cocobabe · 11/05/2007 10:14

Babypowder - goodness me all that family gathering sounds stressful !! , as for the paint - why cant you get the same paint again ? ..can you not take the a paint sample to dulux where they can match the paint for you ?

glassslipper · 11/05/2007 10:18

bp - paint a wide border in an complimenting colour and then add some stickaorunds to it.

judemum · 11/05/2007 11:02

BP- get a large poster or framed picture? or do a big stencil over it? otherwise, just re-decorate- get the DH to do it tomorrow! off to collect car..........yipee.

babypowder · 11/05/2007 12:48

Glassy - I might just try that border idea - I can't get the same colout anymore as I painted the room 5 years ago in anticipation of the birth of DD1! Off to hardware shop this afternoon for inspiration.

castlesintheair · 11/05/2007 13:29

Hey judemum! Good to see you, I often wonder about you. Glad it's going well but watch yourself on those slippery country lanes. I managed to roll 3 times off the 'track' in my yoof once when I was in a bit of a rush ... to get to the pub

Indith · 11/05/2007 13:38

Hello Jude! lets have no car accidents please.

BP sure inspiration will come. I'd say I hope your invasion is going to look after you but with a tiny baby and a bump maybe not! Ah well have a glass of wine and relax.

babypowder · 11/05/2007 16:13

feel the need to be a little smug I re-emulsified the paint by making a zig-zag stirrer out of a wire coathanger and attaching it to my drill. DH would never have thought of that! [gloat emoticon]

Of course, it would have made for a less messy afternoon if I had thought to move the drill off hammer-action. It's amazing how far paint globs can fly Still, have now changed DD2 and myself, put her bouncy-chair cover and our clothes in to wash, wiped down the back door, cleared the paint off the patio and calmed the cat down. Now off to fill cracks before touching up the paintwork.

babypowder · 11/05/2007 16:15

And, my neighbour popped over to apologise for being such an awful neighbour (her words, not mine) Apparently, when we were away this weekend, they had a terrible row and someone phoned the police about them. She's been diagnosed with stress and is now on anti-depressants and the doctor has referred her to a counsellor. It looks like they are now getting the help they need. Phew.

Elibean · 11/05/2007 17:26

Yeay, Margo

Hello, Judemum - car story scary, hope they sorted it for you in the end. Good to see you!

BP, am most impressed - re-emulsification, wahey, didn't know that was even possible. Sort of wish I'd been a fly on the wall for the spatter-action, though

Am going under with nasty, horrid, making sore throat virus thats been steadily getting worse since Monday: how do you deal with a 3 yr old without a voice?

Also rather paranoidally (?) worried about giving it to dd2, with her dodgy larynx, even though just had her ENT appointment which basically said she was fine, and would grow out of it, as long as she was gaining weight etc. This is a baby who gained weight on a drip of EBM in HDU, so no worries there

And last but embarrassingly not least, it hurts and I want to whine. Badly

Elibean · 11/05/2007 17:27

BP, also meant to say - re neighbour, thank goodness she's getting help now: must be a relief for all concerned, including you

Indith · 12/05/2007 09:04

Morning! Huge excitement here in the Indith household. Ds went to sleep like an angel at bedtime and didn't squeak until 7am. A whole 12 hours! The best part was that I slept for 9 of them

Apologies to all my non-sleeping baby friends.

Of course he'll probably be a nightmare next week as off to my parents. Still I don't care, I've had a full nights sleep, even if I don't get another for 4 months I've had this one!

glassslipper · 12/05/2007 09:05

yay indith! long may it continue...my dd was only up once in the night for a 9 min feed. i am reucing from 11 to 10 to 9 mins etc in the hope she gets fed up waking for a tiny feed.

Indith · 12/05/2007 09:13

Oh thats a good idea! I never really thought of doing that. Been amazing here, got over growth spurt, woke once for a few nights in a row then slept right through last night! Dummy also pretty much gone as he has nailed the thimb sucking thing.

LittleMissLate · 12/05/2007 10:37

Sorry I haven't posted for weeks - nothing from me on the current thread at all although I have popped in to read occasionally. DD still waking twice most nights - was hoping she might drop one feed as I go back to work in 3 weeks . She still isn't keen on taking much from a bottle - if she is in a good mood she might take 1 floz or so before crying for bf. Look like I'll be spending my lunch hour going home to bf...

Solids are going well - she is having 3 good sized meals per day and is finally putting on some weight - average of 5 oz per week (was averaging about 1 or 2 oz per week) and tracking just above the 9th centile so hv's happier. DD's very fond of fruit to the extent that I end up having to add pear to any green veg to get her to eat it. Am trying to gradually reduce the fruit I add to get her more used to the savoury flavours.

Can I ask what everyone uses as a bath support? We didn't buy anything to start and have just been bathing dd in the bathroom sink (as it is a reasonably large one). She's rapidly outgrowing it so we will have to use the big bath or use a baby bath. Am thinking about getting a baby bath to conserve water as don't like the idea of filling the big bath all the time but not sure how long she would use it for (but hope to have no. 2 in a year or two so not a complete waste of money ).

So my questions are: Roughly what age do babies outgrow a baby bath? Do you use any sort of support in it and up to what age? Can you use the seats that say 6m+ in a baby bath or just in a big bath?

castlesintheair · 12/05/2007 11:04

LML, I just hold DD2 (6m) in our big bath. I've got a seat from mothercare (circular thing with suction pads) which fits into the big bath which I'll put her in when she can sit unaided. When she's about 1 I'll just let her sit in the bath with a bath mat in the bottom. Personally I wouldn't buy a baby bath (have one and don't use it). You won't waste water if you only fill the bath a few inches, they don't need much. I have 3 though and they all share the same water.

Hope you feel better soon Eli.

Well done on the big sleep Indith. 6 m is when they normally start sleeping well (if they aren't already) ime.

BP, relief about your neighbour, pleased she is getting some help at last.

Mayhem in our house today - why do things always seem harder when DH is here?

Indith · 12/05/2007 12:53

I do use a baby bath LML, but at 4 months he's a bit big for it really, but he likes his bath nice and deep and I'm not wasting water like that!

glassslipper · 12/05/2007 13:09

DD2 goes in a shallow (big) bath then gets out. We top it up and DD1 gets in. We have a bath seat too which we'll use so they can bath together when she can sit unaided.

Just gave DD2 lunch for the first time so she'll be on 3 meals a day now
