He did spend all day yesterday doing it. I now have two huge panels in the middle of the garden.

PhoenixGirl · 29/04/2007 18:57

Hi everyone you've been chatty today for a Sunday anyway

for the new nappies Flame.

csws - I always do bath and bed too wether dh is here or not

Jel - we're doing Haven caravan site in Scotland 4th-8th June ours is a cheapy from The Sun's £9.50 hols

Well we didn't end up tidying the attic out we sat out in the garden and got ds his water wheel table out and had fun instead ds loved it splashing in the water. He had his shorts and t shirt soaked in seconds so we put his wetsuit on. I've got photos if anyone wants to see. If anyone does i'll put them on later.

Ds has already been in bed half an hour as he hasn't had a nap this afternoon and was so tired. He threw a paddy after a few sips of milk so i put him to bed.

Can anyone give me a few meal ideas for ds, just lately he sees his food coming and gets really excited then looks at what it is and won't touch it. He cries and shakes is head. The only thing he will eat with no problem is tinned spagetti hoops which i can't really give all the time We think he may be bored with us giving him the same sort of things all the time so we need new ideas as we're both crap at coming up with meals

2boysmacca · 29/04/2007 19:14

Give him the same foods you eat. Mine eat chilli (without the chiili of course, I just add that after I've taken their portion out), beef, ginger and onions with noodles, lasagne. Fish and pasta in cheese sauce, home meade chicken nuggets, home made chips, cheesea nd potato pie with beans, fih pie. All are very simple to do and it means I pepare once but cook it twice iyswim. I'd be interested in others meals as I NEED some more inspiration.

photos please

Asked my neighbour to sit for the boys this pm as ds2 was in bed and dh needed a lift to the train station. Worked well and she said she'd do it again too

ANyone know the Arsenal/Fulham footie score, want to know if dh will b happy or sad later. BBCi has not updated scores....

Jelley · 29/04/2007 19:21

No idea about football.

ds top meals are anything with pastry - usually steak pie, or cheese and onion, lasagne, spag bol, chicken and rice (messy feeding himself!)cauliflower/broccoli cheese, jacket potato with beans, fish and chips, quiche (more pastry). I'm going to try fish pie next week, the girls used to like it, then went off it and I haven't made it for ages.

Pics please

Most of the other people there last time were on the sun hol, but with the extras they add on it ends up costing about the same.

Oh, dp has only ever done bath and bed if I've gone out (so not very often)

PhoenixGirl · 29/04/2007 19:23

He does normally have the same as us but ours is equally boring. The trouble with us is we find something we like and have it all the time then get sick of it. We've tried him with corned beef hash and chicken stir fry but he won't eat it. Today we had sunday dinner and he had a bit of yorkshre pud, a carrot and a bit of mash.

2boysmacca · 29/04/2007 19:32

corned beef hash! I haven't had that in years. Mum used to do that with chips, I loved it.

Not sure what fish pie you make Jel, but if you fancy a change, I line a dish with blanched spinach, then crack an egg on top of that, add the fish, a big dollop of creme fraiche, then mashed potato. Bung in oven for about 20 mins and it tastes delicious. Take minutes to prepare as you don't have to make the sauce. If I have no spinach, broccoli (very very small pieces or they won't be cooked) or peas. Don't tightly pack it or fish won't be cooked. I like my egg to be runny though, so does ds.

Not sure we'll get a family holiday now dh has changed jobs. We were planning on going week beginning 15 May to center parcs but we've decided not to go I think I'll just take the boys to see my mum and dad in france but the flight alone with the 2 fills me with dread (only 1.5 hours) but when you put the airport waiting too.....

2boysmacca · 29/04/2007 19:33

Jel do you make your own pastry? I am sooooo crap at pastry it tastes rank!

Jelley · 29/04/2007 19:40

I usually do white sauce/prawn/fish/mash. Spinach doesn't usually go down well unless it is really well mixed in to other things.
(I have always hated fish so I have no idea what tastes good)

Yes I make pastry (but steak pie is bought, as I detest cooking meat and won't cook any I have to touch). My mince pies are good.

The flight would be fine, but you are right, all the other bits would be hell. Could you leave at the weekend, and get dh to come with you to the airport?

2boysmacca · 29/04/2007 20:01

but he wouldn't be allowed past check-in so not much use.

have I missed something, are you a veggie?

Dr Who has started.....

PhoenixGirl · 29/04/2007 20:12

Ok a few piccies. Now don't all be laughing at our garden Its at the front, the back garden is communal and 2 neighbours have big dogs so we never go out there.

one, two, three, four, five.

Note the clothing change halfway thru due to the soaking of his first set

And here's a short video clip of him.

Today was his first time out in our garden.

PhoenixGirl · 29/04/2007 20:18

the video isn't working

PhoenixGirl · 29/04/2007 20:21

does it this time?

PhoenixGirl · 29/04/2007 20:23

Ah it does now

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/04/2007 20:30

Are we not even allowed to laugh at the way you've blocked the escape route in the corner up ? They are lovely pics pg .

Jelley - are you after particular drawers, or will my cast offs (solid wood, old, but in good nick - can photograph if you want) do? Would give me an incentive to sort them out and get rid of the junk that's in them!

Will do meal ideas and watch the vid just now...

Yes very nice photies

3:1 for anyone remotely interested. Dh very miffed as they scored twice in the last 5 minutes

PhoenixGirl · 29/04/2007 20:56

csws - the wall was there first. Then we decided we needed some sort of fence and that is the only way they could do it without re-building the wall differently. The dog can' get through that small gap so don't think Lewis will

PhoenixGirl · 29/04/2007 20:57

can't

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/04/2007 21:03

Right, meals. Will stick to fairly simple ones, as you've made it clear before that that's more your style ....

Gnocchi or pasta twists (dd and we like wholewheat ones) with veggie tomatoey sauce (just bung some veg (courgette, aubergine, peppers, carrots, mushrooms sort of thing) in the oven with some oil for an hour, add some tinned tomatoes and warm them through, then blend). I batch make the sauce and freeze it in little pots, so it then only takes 10 mins to do the whole meal.

You can also do the gnocchi with soft cheese (cook gnocchi, drain, add spoonful of cheese and stir), which you could add peas/sweetcorn to.

Sausages - dd seems to love just about every kind of sausage! With mash or chips (oven baked) and beans or veg.

Omelette with salad (tomatoes, beetroot, cucumber - dd doesn't do lettuce), or on a similar line, frittata (grate some courgettes, squeeze them to drain out the water, fry them in a little butter, add some beaten egg and a little milk, and some cheese if you like, and then put the frying pan into the oven and bake until set.

DD doesn't really do meat, but I'll have whatever meat I like and she'll have a selection of the veggies that I've done with it. She loves roast parsnips, and will do sprouts, sometimes carrots, peas, sweetcorn, sometimes asparagus, boiled new potatoes, potato wedges (cut baking potatoes into about 8 wedges, stick them in a sandwich or freezer bag, add a little oil, shake them around to coat them, bung on a baking tray in the oven for about 45 mins), babycorn, squash, sweet potato etc etc

Chicken casserole and rice - easiest way to make this is get some pieces of chicken (I like thighs best in a casserole), brown them in a pan, then add a can/pot of appropriate soup (today we used pumpkin and coconut - could add curry powder to this combo too) and cook in oven for an hour or so.

DD also likes my version of corned beef hash. Confused about macca having chips with hers, given that it has potatoes in already! Mine has sauteed cubes of potato, chopped boiled egg (because dd loves eggs), baked beans and cubes of corned beef.

Risotto - I do one with onion, rice, tinned tomatoes, sultanas, stock (ideally low salt cubes) and spam (works well with chicken, but dd and I like spam ) - lovely topped with melted cheese.

Fish fingers.
Cottage pie and veg.
I'd do macaroni cheese (please don't get it from a tin - it's rank!!) if she wasn't milk intolerant.

Will that do for now?

OP posts:
2boysmacca · 29/04/2007 21:21

OMG macaroni cheese! My dad's favourite, only he smothers it in...vinegar! He used to do the same with tuna fish. For years I could never eat it and as you know, tuna fish is students main ingredient, no one could understand why I could never stomach it

You don't look like a spam, sort of person

How do you get dd to eat veg? Ds will eat brocolli and cucumber but that's about it. Ds2 has loved his veg but last few months he throws them off his plate. Ds loves bread and will eat 'til it comes out of his ears, ds2 is not keen. One likes houmus, other doesn't. One eats meat, other doesn't. One likes fishcakes, other doesn't. One eats pasta....you get the picture. Now I just stick to what I'm having (within reason) and they like it or lump it. More oftent than not, ds lumps it.

Mine was just corned beef and onions in pastry, smothered in gravy and chips.

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/04/2007 21:28

Corned beef and onions in pastry - that is so not corned beef hash!!!

Forgot broccoli and cauli in my list - she eats those too. I've just always given them to her, and I always eat the same thing at the same time, which I think helps. She'll go through phases with some veg, but I'll always try to include at least one cert with each meal, and one or more possibles! Courgette is the only one that she resolutely refuses to go near! I just don't make a big deal if she leaves something, and if she leaves the same thing several times in a row then I just don't offer it again for a while.

OP posts:
2boysmacca · 29/04/2007 21:36

I've had 3 years of doing that csws!! You wait til all your troubles begin

I jsut don't understand that a child that ate anything as a baby, refuseed everything once he hit about 18 months. There was a time when I was pregnant that he had fishcake and brocoli 3 times a week so as I could be sure he ate something. Now, he refuses, it gets taken away, no yoghurt end of. I am just waiting for ds2 to start refusing more as he's been a human dustbin since birth! Ds new game is "what's for dinner' "yuk, I said I didn't want that" Last week, I put it straight in the bin much to dh's disgust . Although he hasn't said it again this week

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/04/2007 21:38

My mum threw my dinner straight in the bin once when I complained. Don't think I complained as much after that, so it does work!

OP posts:
2boysmacca · 29/04/2007 21:45

His dinner has been in the bin lots of times but he never learns, he just tries another way to get me riled

Tonight he gagged though his meal. I feel so bad when he does this but I refuse to cook separate meals for them

Jelley · 29/04/2007 22:18

Yes, I'm veggie

Cast offs would be wonderful

Can't stay, spent an hour looking for paperwork to post to tax new car. Note to self...don't buy car from someone registered disabled and try and tax it at the post office.
