Right ladies this is going to be used as a tip's, questions and answers etc thread for those of us who have had our babies and can't keep up with the chat on the other thread. (my word those ladies can talk)

And of course everyone is welcome to post on here the more advice etc the better.

Oh and congratulations on your april baby CD!! So pleased for you

octo · 01/05/2007 13:12

congratulations CD - you made it!

Lesleyr - hope you are okay - thinking of you xx

Can't remember who said what...

UTI - mine was also very painful - had some cefadroxil (sp) rather than the usual amoxycillin and it seems to have cleared it up.

Peeing uncontrollably - had it last time with ds2 but not his time - used to dread standing up Took me ages to get over it - was linked to a UTI so worth getting it checked out.

No sign of my midwife to sign me off - now 15 days ... Have rung to see what is going on - said she should be here today.

Sleep okay - last night was 9pm, 1am, 4am, 7am and 10am - not bad! I do feel he fusses more at night to latch on - have decided not to switch boobs half way through so the other boob is full for the next feed.

I am wondering how on earth we are going to get things done when dh goes back to work!

Have a screaming ernie! Must go xxxx

EllieKthePA · 01/05/2007 14:48

BABY DIPPY HAS A NAME!!!!!!!!!!!

"We have named our daughter!! Her name is Phoebe Elisabeth Joan. Just off to make it official ...."

mammyjo · 01/05/2007 15:48

Wow, I am impressed at CD registering the birth just one day after the event! It took me 3 weeks to get myself down to the registrars office. Lovely name too, Phoebe is so cute!

mammyjo · 01/05/2007 15:48

Can you tell that Ffion has slept a lot today. I have done 4 posts in one day, a record for me of late!!

mammyjo · 01/05/2007 15:51

Forgot to congratulate Maveta on the birth of Noah. Really sorry to anyone else I have missed.

Does anyone know how Weeonion is doing as I remember she was having a bit of trouble with BF. Hope you are ok WO if you are reading this and that things have settled down for you xxx

Sexonknackeredlegs · 01/05/2007 17:30

CD, what a lovely name!

Mammyjo, lovely to see you!

All ok here. K seems to be more awake these days - not just feeding and sleeping. She enjoyed a trip round our local shopping centre!

Hope everyone is well - nips not too sore, not too sleep deprived etc. etc.

xx

LesleyR · 01/05/2007 18:10

We're home!

George will have to take antibiotics for the next 6 months and needs to go back for more scans in case he has bladder reflux and damaged kidneys. Thankfully he's pretty much back to his normal self - I was so relieved when he started crying properly again.

I had a bit of a wobble when we got home. Despite wanting to escape from hospital, I felt a bit panicked about him being ill again and not noticing it. DH had to go back to work and when he said he was going I burst into tears. My brother and his partner have been round this afternoon to keep me company and I feel a bit more normal.

Congrats to all new mummies and daddies. Lovely names and cute pics. Are there many April ladies still waiting? Labour vibes to you if you are.

I'm so very tired so don't know when I'll be on again. Need to get caught up with sleep and housework and gazing at my precious boy who is okay!!!

Thanks to all for lovely supportive messages and to Ellie for keeping you all up to date.

Sexonknackeredlegs · 01/05/2007 18:27

Welcome home Lesley and George. You poor mites the both of you. 6 months of ab's - wow, what a long time. Really hope it does the trick and George is given the all clear.

It is horrid when you are left on your own isn't it. I remember with dd1, I felt physically sick when dh headed back to work. Hope you are ok.

Hugs to everyone. xx

liath · 01/05/2007 19:19

Lesley, good to hear you're home and George on the mend. I reckon you're entitled to feel a bit wibbly after all that. Having a new baby is stressful enough - I can't imagine how horrible it must have been to have a new baby get so ill .

All fine here, nips getting gradually better and the blocked duct is unblocked. Getting enough sleep as DH still on paternity leave - he only had a week off last time but has taken annual leave this time too so has 4 weeks off - what a difference it has made! He's been a complete star, too & I think it has helped dd get used to the new arrival having two of us around.

I can't believe how chilled out ds is compared to dd as a baby - he sleeps quite happily in his carry cot which she never did until 6 or 7 weeks old. I'm almost (whispers) enjoying the newborn stage - never thought I'd be saying that! I daresay he'll get colic now.....!

Hope everyone is Ok. Congratulations to all the new mums, have really enjoyed reading the birth stroies and admiring the pics. Such lovely names, too.

Sexonknackeredlegs · 01/05/2007 20:21

Evening all.

Feel really low tonight - think it must be the baby blues. Feel really tired and emotional and couldn't stop crying. It is more to do with dd1.

She can be very helpful etc. but my God she can also be stubborn, obnoxious and difficult.

She was an utter pita at bath time, and being tired and fractious I was not the best mother on the planet, and took my frustration out by wacking the wall with my hand. She didn't see me do this thankfully.

Also, Katie seems very unsettled tonight which doesn't help matters. I think she is a little constipated, even tho she has been having cooled boiled water before every feed.

Oh it is all such hard work at times isn't it!!?

Dh is being sweet, and saying how much he loves me, and how maternal I have been with dd2, but it just makes me cry even more!

What a wreck!

Sorry that was such a self indulgent post - I just needed to get it off my chest.

Hope everyone is doing ok. xx

Birdiemum · 01/05/2007 23:42

ECA - tongue tie. Yes - little Rose had this and we got it snipped before she was a week old. It was quite a performance as apparently the procedure has fallen out of favour due to the prevalence of bottle-feeding (Huh??!!) and Devon don't do it. Our midwives were fantastic and suggested lots of options and eventually we travelled to Cornwall where another midwife at a local unit did it for us. Rose was crying - because DH was holding her still for the procedure - but when the midwife did the snip there was no change in the quality of her crying whatsoever - which meant it really did not hurt a bit. Afterwards, feeding improved immediately - definitely well worth doing IMO.

I have been trying to keep up with everyone's posts and it has been so reassuring to read I'm not the only one dissolving into tears, losing it with older child, struggling with b-feeding etc! Also lovely to hear that the whole April ante-natal thread is nearly here - who else apart from GMM still to pop?

Rose is Baby Jekyl and Baby Hyde - you never know what you're going to get from one day to the next. Yesterday (and night) were fab - she fed and slept like a model baby. Today she has not slept for more than an hour at a stretch all day and we have nipped her down to the doctor with a suspected tummy bug as she has been projectile vomiting and pooing in superbaby quantities. However she is well in herself so must just keep feeding. All the feeding means she ends up "chewing" on an empty breast so my boob is killing me again and I may have to go back to expressing for a day or 2 - so still not out of the woods yet.....

Off to catch up on the rest of your posts....

Sexonknackeredlegs · 02/05/2007 07:26

Hi Birdie, lovely to see you.

Just a quickie really.

MIAST (and any others who have babies with the dreaded bunged up nose), I have found a website www.4little1.com that sells stuff suitable from birth. Maybe worth a look.

I too have got ruddy sinusitis. Am gonna give sudafed and Anadin a go and then demand anitibiotics if that doesn't work. So painful moving my head .

Hope everyone is well and had reasonable nights.

xx

Bramshott · 02/05/2007 10:28

Morning all. Rushing as ever, and have only skimmed but wanted to say:

Thanks to everyone who posted supportive (and empathetic!) things about my DD-problems. We actually had a much better day yesterday as I had dug out some craft things she'd been given for her birthday and I'd put away so we spent a lot of the afternoon making necklaces! Have also gone on the offensive and organised a few playdates to keep us both sane.

SOSKL, MIAST and others with bunged-up little ones (we are too) - all you really seem to be able to give them under three months are saline nose drops and you can make these at home. The Dr Spock book my friend has says mix 4oz warm water (I used boiled) with 1/4 tsp of salt, then store in a sealed container and drop a few drops in their nose before a feed. Not sure if it's helpign but Orla's feeding doesn't seem to bad, it's more the cough which is bothering her. Sorry to hear about the problems you're both having - it's crap sometimes isn't it ((hugs)).

Bugmum - so sorry to hear you're struggling. Others have said more useful things than me, but just sending you supportive thoughts.

Congrats to Dippy on the arrival of Phoebe! Won't be long until we are all post-natal mummies and won't that be a relief!

Katy - I like the sound of a wraparound top from Next. Let me know what it looks like. I have earmarked Monday 14 to go shopping which is a week before the wedding.

Orla pretty good last night - fed at 9.30, 2.00, 5.30 and 7.30 but all-importantly settled straight down afterwards! Not sure if it's the cold she has, but my left breast is enormously overfull and painful. Yesterday I expressed from it to settle it down, but I think that's made it worse and it's just making more milk than the other one so today I have decided to tough it out and make sure she feeds from them both equally (she still usually only has one) - owwwww!

EllieKthePA · 02/05/2007 10:32

hi ladies

still waiting are -

Heidle/Finbarr
Elkiedee
Emmymummy
Glitterkitty
Bumble75
GMM

please spare a thought for them and pop into antenatal sometimes, they're all fed up of waiting now and without Katy, Maveta and Dippy it's very quiet over there

octo · 02/05/2007 10:37

Morning all

Hello to Birdie & Lesleyr - hope you are both okay now.

Bramshott - have you tried changing the position you feed in - if one of my boobs feels sore I switch to rugby tackle and he empties different ducts - well it feels better so must be something like that

We had a good night - slept from 7-11pm, then two night feeds (hid clock!) and then 7am - so really pleased - and went into cot quite happily. He is snoring away now... and ...

I did breakfast, getting dressed and the school run with all three ds on my own - I can do it!!!!

Must go do something productive ...

Have a good day everyone xxxx

claricebean · 02/05/2007 10:52

Morning everyone,

Lesley so glad you and George are home now. It must have been such a worrying time for you. Now you can get on with being a family.

Hugs to those having wobbly moments. It's pretty understandable with all these hormones flying about, isn't it? I've noticed that in the last few days my taste buds have returned to pre pregnancy state, which I guess is a hormonal thing. I don't normally have a sweet tooth, but have had an outrageous one with all three DD pregnancies (though not with DS). Now I am back on all the bitter stuff I couldn't stomach while pg, and am refusing to eat the huge toblerones DH bought at the airport (not that there aren't other takers in the house for them!).

BF going well here and one nip virtually pain free. Still cat and mousing at the latch on the left but getting better.

Anyway, Ruby calling me so must go. Healthy vibes to all the sinusitis sufferers.

muminasaggytummy · 02/05/2007 11:08

Hi girls!

Thanks for the help re saline nose drops etc - thankfully her nose is runny and loose rather than bunged up so it is not affecting her ability to feed. She just has a crusty eye as well now....GRRR I just keep bathing it with cotton wool soaked in cooled boiled water.

I started to post last night but half way through Robyn woke up and I never got back to typing after that - can't remember what I was going to say now anyway!

SOSKL - I would demand the antibiotics to be honest as Sinusitis very rarely shifts without them and you need to be feeling right at this time when you have so much to deal with...could your midwife not ring up your GP? I am 2 days into the course and it is starting to feel slightly better though I am so full of infected snot (sorry for TMI) it is thoroughly disgusting.

R was kind last night - I went to bed at 10pm after she had gone down at 8 in her cot. She slept till midnight, took 5 oz and then slept till 4, took another 5 and that was her till 7.30am so I feel a bit refreshed.

Better go - James is hungry and wants crackers and cow cheese!!

nuttygirl · 02/05/2007 11:51

Morning all,

Erin taking feeds every 2-3hrs during the day but luckily only every 5hrs or so through night. Am finding it difficult to work out if she's getting enough tho...might have to see if she'll start taking bottles with more than 3oz in them.

Lesley - glad to hear you're back home. Sorry to hear George is going to need a/bs for 6 months.

Sis has just rung to say her, BIL & one of my aunts are coming to visit on Sat. It's really nice they're coming, they are so desperate to see Erin while she's still v little!!! I'm a bit scared too tho cos my sis has 3 dc (well they're 18,16 &14 now) and she knows what she's doing.

geordiemacminx · 02/05/2007 12:05

hey ladies - thought I would pop in here and ask a quickie about shows (no not cats or joseph). Had a sweep on Monday, mw didnt know whther it would work as cervix was mainly closed, anyways a bit of a show yesterday, bad cramps this morning, followed by 20 mins on toilet, then realise I have passed something yellowy jelly like, about the size of a small egg? Sorry if I have put anyone of their lunch.

Just wanting poeple to reassure me that this is normal and that it wont be long... had contractions on and off for the past week.

Ta ladies.

nuttygirl · 02/05/2007 12:08

Don't have a lot of knowledge but I had a sweep and mw said I had a show when she did it...my waters broke that evening (helped out by some sex earlier that evening )

Emmymummy · 02/05/2007 13:09

Hello ladies - Still not 'officially' allowed on here, but wanted to ask a quick question for those of you who bought Lilypadz - do they work? Would you recommend them? Thanks!

Also, thought some of you might be interested in this about lying down breastfeeding.

Hopefully join you for real soon xxx

mammyjo · 02/05/2007 14:08

GMM, that sounds like a show to me. Mine was a yellowy colour too and jellyish. Sending labour vibes for you and really hope that things start happening for you very soon. I am pretty sure that a show is more significant of things happening on your first (it is your first isnt it?) Mine came three weeks before I had dd but midwife said on subsequent babies its normal for this to happen. Good luck!!

mammyjo · 02/05/2007 14:10

Think my milk supply is starting to dwindle. Same thing happened with ds too. Dd took 2oz of formula yesterday evening despite taking a feed from me too. Did settle her though so am thinking I may not be BF for much longer. She has been quite unsettled today too and I feel that she has literally drunk me dry.

nuttygirl · 02/05/2007 14:14

Well my HV has finally called to arrange an appointment and she's coming tomorrow afternoon. I hope I feel better than today...I'm still in PJs.
