Right ladies this is going to be used as a tip's, questions and answers etc thread for those of us who have had our babies and can't keep up with the chat on the other thread. (my word those ladies can talk)

And of course everyone is welcome to post on here the more advice etc the better.

Leo is in colic hell! Poor little mite is really suffering, he feeds well, I wind him (loads and loads) and then he grumbles and grumbles and if not constantly patted, rocked or moved around in sling he cries a really horrible, pitiful high pitched pain of a scream.

I am just trying anything and everything to soothe him, poor love. I even rang my HV and had one of the most pointless conversations of my life "you could do X,Y,Z but you could not do X,Y,Z and see how it goes"....how informative (not)!

I am fine, surprisingly am not too tired or anything, even managing to get the chores done and spend time with my other two as just put Leo in the sling. DS1 and DD are also trying to help Leo as they will rock him in his chair and try and get him to suck his dummy, love 'em, which buys me a bit of time if I am doing the tea or whatever.

Sorry for the folks having problems with BFing. I have been very lucky that never had problems with feeding with any of the kids really. My SIL had terrible troubles with her DD but went on to BF her DS for quite a while. I know some people are very pro-BFing and I suppose it is easy for me to say but feeding is only one small aspect of parenting/motherhood and I think babies are generally happy babies if they have happy Mummys

EllieKthePA · 27/04/2007 22:07

he has just been changed

and i'm giving him cuddles

bloody frustrating this parenting lark

Whendoobygotstuckupthechimney · 27/04/2007 22:12

Just to gross everyone out.Milo regugitated milk onto the kitchen floor earlier and the dog tried to eat itDp back from tescos so going to eat eclairs!

EllieKthePA · 27/04/2007 22:12

ooh yummy

EllieKthePA · 27/04/2007 22:13

i meant the eclairs obviously, not the regurgitated milk

muminasaggytummy · 28/04/2007 08:50

Morning Everyone,

West Country Lass, sorry to hear that poor Leo is suffering so much. I take it you have tried the usual Infacol etc (forgive me if you have posted that before). I remember having a chat with one of the patients at the surgery who had just had a little girl and was having a nightmare with dreadful colic. She ended up in despair taking her to a cranial osteopath (I think that was what he was called) and she said that after that she was like a different child....may be worth a bit of an investigation. I'm afraid I am clueless as to how it works but thought I'd mention it.

Runny - your friends sound lovely. My friend Jane came to see us last Sunday and she was the same - running round making cups of tea for other visitors etc - a true star.

Dooby - sorry to hear you are having trouble with your section scar....I hope it starts to heal for you soon...are you taking any Arnica?

Well I had a great night last night. Robyn slept from 7pm till 11 in her cot. I went to bed at 9 and got 2 hrs in before the first feed. She took 3 oz at 11 and we were both back in bed and on our way to Sleepyville by 11.30! She woke again at 2.30am I put her to the breast (easier than getting up for bottles etc and I wanted to compare how she settled) she fed for 50 mins and was restless so decided to top her up with formula....she took another 3 oz!!!! Made me just think "what's the bloody point of breastfeeding!!" She dropped off at 3.45 and slept till bang on 7am.

I feel alot better as I have actually had a decent period of sleep and also I just feel more comfortable in my decision as she just seems so much more settled.

Bit cheesed off with Phil as he wants to go to his Mums today. We were there last weekend and are going next weekend and I just want a bit of time at home now things are getting on to a bit of an even keel. Thing is - I know he wants to go so that Grandma will look after James so he can chill out and watch the footie and cricket...which I think is a bit bloody cheeky to be honest. There are also quite a few jobs that are on his list to be done that he now only has 2 days left to do them before he goes back to work and I know he's trying to avoid doing them as well. I sound really mean as he has been so good and looked after us so well but I just really can't be bothered trailing all the way over there just to sit in someone elses house watching telly all day... So now he's in a sulk. I told him he can watch whatever he likes here but it's made no difference....so I'm going to get James dressed and get a shower.

Is anyone else waking up in the middle of the night absolutley drenched? My hair was soaking and I was just so hot - is it hormones do you think? It's horrible....

Still no news from Maveta - hope she's ok - have a good Saturday everyone

xx

Sexonknackeredlegs · 28/04/2007 09:55

Morning!

Wow, what a great night MIAST. We are running along the same sort of pattern with Katie, and it is great to get a good run of sleep. K is still in our room in her moses basket, but I think we will move her in to her own room, as she is such a noisy sleeper!! Snoring and squeaking, which is cute during the day... not at night tho!

Also, so glad you mentioned the sweating. In fact I came on to mumsnet this morning and had a look through old messages, as I too have been drenched in sweat - particularly this morning.

I think it is just hormones and the body getting rid of ay excess fluid following birth. Horrid isn't it!?

Better get on. Hope everyone is ok. Enjoy the sunshine!!

Sexonknackeredlegs · 28/04/2007 10:16

Me again!

Ok, TMI alert, but wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this before I speak to my mw.

When I went to the loo and wiped, there was a small piece of something, which looked a bit like meat. SORRY- GROSS I KNOW. It was only about 2 cm long by 1 cm. I wonder if this is just placental matter.

Really sorry to be so gross!!

EllieKthePA · 28/04/2007 10:24

you are soooooo gross SOKL

i haven't had anything similar i'm afraid, tho getting annoyed with bleeding now, stopped a week ago but every so often starts again

muminasaggytummy · 28/04/2007 10:46

Hi SOSKL

Not had that here either but I would mention it anyway just in case. It is probably just a wee clot or something. I think you only need get concerned if it was larger than a 50p piece but I would mention it anyway if I was you.

Glad it's not just me witht he sweating...but sorry you are suffering. I just had a shower and could hardly get dried and my face after I've dried my hair looks like I've just run a marathon....really hope it sorts itself out soon it's horrible.

Robyn is still in our room but I put her in her cot instead of the Moses Basket as she was rustling about and banging off the sides. She looks lost in her cot but as she is swaddled I know she is warm enough until I can get her into a gro bag.

Ellie - I found that I would bleed after breastfeeding but at no other time...must still be making the uterus contract or something?

octo · 28/04/2007 11:25

one handed typing here!

after saying all was well with feeding yesterday had terrible afternoon and evening - lots of crying, constant feeding, wind and restlessness better night though - 2am and 5am which was good. was very close to giving him a bottle but don't think it is lack o f milk or hunger - but do know he will be more satisfied - reaaly hard to know what to do - but am going to perservere

I think they get a growth spurt at about 10 days so hoping that was cause ...

Infacol in full flow here - but osteopath def helped - would recommend.

the problem we have is that he gulps his milk down then struggles when it goes down to tummy - am going to ask on bf thread.

sokl - sounds like a clot - if worried check with midwife/gp.

can't remember much else - big hugs to all xxx

Eddas · 28/04/2007 11:33

SOKL, had a very similar thing here after about 2 days.

TMI alert just for those who don't want to be put off eating

I'd just had a bath, got out dried put on clothes etc. Then I sneezed and I felt a kind of spurt below and thought WTF was that went to investigate and..................................................................................................................

it looked like a slug(kind of liver coloured!!!!) My first thought was shit that's not right, so went and got dh to have a look too He said that if i'd seen what came out when i gave birth i wouldn't be worried But i was so called hospital and the very nice lady didn't sound too concerned. I thought it was huge so she asked what sort of size, as big as a melon Christ not that big, really would be worried! Anyway she said not to worry that most liekly i'd just been sitting in one place for too long, the blood had all congeeled(SP??!!) and then when i sneezed it just popped out. Mentioned it to my mw who came the next day and she too wasn't concerned.

I think if it was to do with your placenta they'd have written in your notes that they weren't sure it'd all come out. Check if you've still got them. MW said that as they weren;t concerned that mine was in tact that she's sure it was just a blood clot. HTH

zazas · 28/04/2007 11:56

hello everyone. Have managed to read through the latest postings - it is reassuring to hear others in similar situations - at times you can feel like you are the only one!

1b3 - I hope that your daughter continues to thrive now she is home and that you get some rest!

All those who are struggling with the BF - I feel for you and am sorry it has been so hard. This baby is number 3 for me and I still find it a struggle. Considering I BF the others for 16 months and then 12, I thought I would be 'better' at it this time No I have cracked nipples, a baby with a 'poor' latch (my fault apparently) and a completely erratic feeding pattern. My saving grace at the moment is that I have a very relaxed baby so I am not getting stressed about it. I echo everyone else though - don't beat yourself up about it and there is a lot more to parenting than just the feeding side.

Well it is a full house here - 5 kids - keep saying 4 and having to remind myself that we now have 5! Have had to put the baby safely 'away' as her big sisters made our bed into a boat and surrounded her with toys while she was sleeping - while the boys just keep kissing her! They are all fascinated - nothing like an audience while you are tyring to have a bath with the baby, and have 2 massive boobs, a saggy tummy and then putting a pad on after - oh well it will make them all more aware of what being a women is all about!

I know what you mean sexonkanckedlegs about taking your precious newborn into the world of older kids! Walked my two to school on Friday and couldn't move through the playground for the swarm of children hovering around. I had put her in the stroller as my pelvis is aching but I think I will stick to the sling as I can keep her close to me and away from all those faces that were getting a bit too close! She is known as the 'baby who was born at home in the pool' - hot playground topic apparently!

Is anyone else feeling overly emotional? I know that I am tired but I seem to cry unexpectedly on and off the last few days... I thought the 'baby blues' would have passed by now. I suffered badly last time with post trumatic shock due to the nature of the birth for quite some months - which isn't the case this time at all - but maybe I am just an emotional wreck in general after birth? Please tell me I am not the only one...?!!

eca · 28/04/2007 13:16

hey everyone!!

We had a WONDERFUL night!! T fed at 10pm and only had one feed at 2 til 3pm and then slept until 8.30am!! Woohoo! I was so so grateful because I was feeling really hormonal and tired last night worrying about i'm going to cope with it all. One of my nipples had started to crack and bleed etc etc. So it was a real blessing. Not holding my breath for it to continue though!

MIAST - yes! Sweating! I was really bad the first few nights, thankfully it's settled down a bit now.

Eddas - ROFL at your clot story A MELON!!! Help!

Zazas - no you are not the only one! I will be fine for a while and then go really hormonal and drained and weepy all at once. Dh is coping v well with me at the mo. I'm trying not to worry too much about it and just accept there's lots of hormones floating round and hope that I will level out soon.

nuttygirl · 28/04/2007 13:34

Afternoon all

Well we finally feel sorted enough to give the terries nappies a go...it looks kinda big and the plastic pants look HUGE but we had such a laugh cos Erin had this rather confused 'what on earth are you doing to me' look on her face while we were putting it on!!!

MIAST - at the hospital mixing up your test results and that they didn't tell you. I've got anaemia and before I got the iron tablets I felt awful...I just didn't have the energy to do anything. I had mum & DH doing everything for me and they were letting me get loads of sleep so can't even imagine how hard it's been for you with James to look after aswell as trying to bf. Hopefully now you know the results you'll get something for it and get better (btw if you get iron tablets prescribed ask for lactulose at the same time!!!)

I keep thinking the bleeding has stopped and then it starts again but I think mine's caused by the constipation .

Well just getting ready to go out so best go!

liath · 28/04/2007 13:47

Another very sweaty mummy here - it pours off - yuk!

Nutty, ds looks ludicrous in his giant nappies too - little skinny legs poking out the bottom . He's busy filling it as I type.

All well here, had a lot of feeding last night but then he went to sleep for 5 hours at 8am (why can't he do that overnight????) so I hoofed it back to bed and caught up on some sleep. Nips still sore (oh, for a pair of Bramshotts boot-leather nips) but like Ellie I express before feeds if he's gone more than a couple of hours and that makes it easier to latch. Definitely have a duff left side, though - the nipple is smaller & flatter so latch is harder.

Hope WO is OK.

EllieKthePA · 28/04/2007 13:53

i'm the same Liath, left side appears to be duff! Joe will only feed off right side to start, will go to left if he's finished everything from right, and i only get 1oz from left when expressing, 3oz from right!

they don't look any different!

liath · 28/04/2007 14:45

I'm starting to look a bit lopsided, Ellie . Right bazooka bigger than the left bazooka. The things we do for our babies, eh?

claricebean · 28/04/2007 16:58

Hellooo everyone. Glad to hear the feeding´s getting better for lots of you. My nips are fine now, still a shock for the latch but ok after that and Ruby is feeding like a trooper, bless her. Right easier than the left for me too; we do a little cat and mouse dance at the beginning of each time on the left where Ruby tries to latch and I pull away with fear at the last moment, then she tries to latch with her hand in the way or her mouth a bit closed etc etc. But we get there in the end.

Agree with the sweating comments, although mine seems to have calmed down now too. Bleeding pretty much on the way out as well

Well off to try and get DS in bath. His plaster (from broken leg) came off a couple of days ago and he seems terrified of the bath now. He hasn´t had one for 6 weeks so his hair really could do with a wash, LOL. Also, he´s still walking like jake the peg, and I want to start doing some manipulation exercises of his foot in the bath too.

Have a good evening /night.

liath · 28/04/2007 17:12

LOL Claricebean, same cat & mouse thing here, sometimes I just whip him away at the last second thinking "Nooo, it's going to hurt!", poor wee man. Once he's on it's fine. Just wish he'd keep his hands out the way, feel like I'm feeding an octopus sometimes with them flailing around ! Tried swaddling but those little hands keep escaping. It can't be long till your DH is back now .

eca · 28/04/2007 18:06

Liath - lol at different size boobs. My left one is HUGE compared to my right. Really quite Baggy tops for a while me thinks.

Hi CB. Good to see you. Glad to hear ds's cast is off. Sounds like a smelly boy though !
