Right ladies this is going to be used as a tip's, questions and answers etc thread for those of us who have had our babies and can't keep up with the chat on the other thread. (my word those ladies can talk)

And of course everyone is welcome to post on here the more advice etc the better.

1b3, sorry to hear about DD, really hope she's out of hospital soon and feeling much better. It's horrible seeing dc's ill. Poor little things look so helpless

Dooby, ROFL, at prada willi syndrome, sounds like something one of my friends would come out with

Well, i registeed H today, have been filling out all the other forms tonight and really must do the birth announcement cards and the thing for the paper. Getting a bit late now though, maybe tomorrow

Hope everyone has a good night with the dc's x

Morning ladies, 1b3, hope your dd is on the mend - cannot believe the run of bad luck you have had. Told dh, and he really feels for you too.

How is everyone doing?

Sorry to be really out of the picture, but what's troubling WeeOnion? I have had a look out for her on other threads and cannot find her anywhere.

Sexonknackeredlegs · 26/04/2007 10:09

Me again.

BOTTLE FEEDERS

When dd was born, we made up bottles for the next 24 hours and kept them in the fridge.
I have just spoken to SMA and the Dept of Health have said we can't do this, and each bottle has to be made fresh each time- WTF.
How effing impractical is that.

What are you other bottle feeders doing?

Advice greatly appreciated. I feel really cross about this!

oooggs · 26/04/2007 10:19

sokl!!!! This is what we are doing. Sterlising bottles and put required amount of boiled water in them and then storing them on the side to cool to room temp (using bottles within 24hrs). When required we are then adding the formula giving it a shake and feeding. They are taking it at room temp and I am not heating it. When out it is easier as I just take bottles of boiled water and add formula from those dispensers.

Hope this makes sense

BTW - they are currently having 14 bottles within a 24hrs period between them!!!!

runnyhabbit · 26/04/2007 10:24

SOKL - me & my mw were talking about ff before ds2 was born (wanted to be prepared incase bf didn't work) she told me about the new guidelines, but then told me "off the record" that they were talking rubbish, and to make them the same way as I did for ds1 - which is the same way as you - make a batch for 24 hours.

runnyhabbit · 26/04/2007 10:26

agree with oooggs that its easier to do that method when you're out and about

runnyhabbit · 26/04/2007 10:27

btw - Good Morning

oooggs · 26/04/2007 10:29

I am using that method whether in or out. Start the day with 14 bottles with boiled water in them and next to them I have 4 dispensers pre measured, which I top up when needed. Makes feeding more organised when doing two.

With ds I made them up and put them in the fridge but then had to heat it as it was too cold, now I haven't time with screaming in stereo

Sexonknackeredlegs · 26/04/2007 10:44

Thank you ladies. I have been keeping bottles of water in the fridge, but I think I will keep them out then on the side, and then as you say, they don't need to be warmed up even.

As if we haven't enough to do/think about!!

Morning everyone!!

runnyhabbit · 26/04/2007 11:25

Was going to ask for advice on getting William to sleep on his own. Atm he will only sleep on me or dh, and wakes as soon as you put him down anywhere.
But, the mw has just visited, and guess what? He's been a proper man, and after a few grizzles, has settled to sleep in his bouncy chair!
Mw did give me a few good tips though, and maybe I just need to be a bit more confident in letting him cry a little before going to him, esp when I know he's fed, clean etc.

Men!

nuttygirl · 26/04/2007 11:41

1b3 - hope dd gets better soon.

SOKL - mw said the same to us but the tine of SMA says it can be made up and stored in fridge. We're just making it up and storing it in fridge anyway....but don't tell my mw/hv!!!!

DH goes back to work tomorrow and dad is coming to pick mum up (she's a bit homesick cos she's bored down here!). Things going well with Erin and I'm starting to feel well again. Ooh that reminds me...I haven't had my pills today. Best go take them.

AngeG · 26/04/2007 11:43

SOKL - Agree with everyone else about bottles. That's how I used to do them for Jake so much easier than having to warm a bottle while dealing with a screaming baby!
Congratulations on the birth of Emma...what a fabulous birth story! Lovely photos also.

Excellent news Runny! Well done you. It's so hard sometimes leaving them to cry a bit, but they do normally fall asleep.

I'm beginning to get my normal baby back now that I have finshed the antibiotics. She actually slept in her crib last night til 6:45am, whereas for the last week she has only slept in bed with me. Also last night she fed at 9:15pm and then slept til 2:15am and then back in her crib and slept til 6:45 when I cuddled her in bed with me and she went back to sleep for another hour before she fed. She is also at the moment asleep in her bouncy chair, which has been totally unheard of for the last week.

Sorry to go on, but I'm so pleased she has settled down again.

Jake is currently at work with Daddy (has been since 8:30am) and I've just had a phone call to say he doesn't want to come home at the moment

Still thinking of you all 1b3 hope DD is now on the mend and things are settling down for you all.

Anyway better go and sort a few things out.

Love to everyone

AngeG · 26/04/2007 11:44

SOKL - Weeonion is having trouble with BF.

thread here.

AngeG · 26/04/2007 11:45

Hi nuttygirl Glad feeding is going better. What are you taking pills for? Sorry I have lost track because I haven't been on for so long

nuttygirl · 26/04/2007 11:49

Well I have arnica for the bruising, iron tablets for anaemia and lactulose for the constipation. Then I can also take painkillers for my back/bad head if I like...although the ibuprofen gave me stomach pains so can only take paracetamol. The stool I'm using as a coffee table looks like a shelf from Boots!!!

nuttygirl · 26/04/2007 11:50

Oh and does anyone know how long I should wait til I use bath foam again? (i.e. do I have to wait til I have no bleeding?)

oooggs · 26/04/2007 11:53

No idea nutty - glad Erins feeding has improved

AngeG · 26/04/2007 12:05

Thanks Nuttygirl - wow that's a lot of pills!

Sorry I don't know about bath foam.

Hi Oooggs. How are things with you?

Sexonknackeredlegs · 26/04/2007 12:05

Thanks Ange.

Nutty, when I saw the word "stool" I thought you were referring to poo! I am obsessed!!!

LesleyR · 26/04/2007 13:13

Nutty - the mw at hospital ran me a bath with bubbles in it after I'd had George so I suppose bath foam is alright. Was a bit weird having a bubble bath where I'd given birth an hour or so before! I suppose it's stitches you need to be careful about, don't use anything to strong or perfumey in case it irritates.

1b3 - hope dd is well again soon. Glad you've got lots of support but it must be so stressful. Thinking of you.

WeeOnion- hope the bf situation is improving. I feel for you hun. Hope the lovely ladies on your thread came up with advice that worked for you.

I had a HUGELY frustrating day yesterday. It's probably quite trivial but with the tiredness and general scary newness of doing stuff with a baby I got quite stressed. George did not get a clear result on his newborn hearing screen so they sent me a retest appointment for yesterday. I live in the middle of Leeds and the appointment was in Otley. A small town 10 or 11 miles away that I have never been to before. My visiting ILs ended up taking me, we parked in the middle of town and quite quickly found clinic. After reporting to reception, (who took no details from me) I had to go and sit in a big waiting room with loads of old ladies waiting for chiropodists. My appointment was 3.10, I arrived at 3.00. i sat for an hour with MIL watching other children arrive for later appointments and go in before me. When I enquired again at reception they told me they don't have a list of names for hearing tests as it's an outside agency, I should raise it with them when I went in for test. At 4.10 the chap doing tests looked to be leaving for the day, so I stopped him and explained I had a newborn appointment. His response was: "Not here, not today"
I showed him the letter I had clearly stating the date and time of the test. ILs had a right go at him and I felt like crying. He went off and made a phonecall and came back saying the letter had been typed incorrectly my appointment was 3.10 on 25/04 in Armley about a mile and a half from home! He was very apologetic and said the hearing service would call in the morning to reschedule. ILs chuntered on a bit more saying they were visiting from Northumberland and had wasted half the day in Otley.

It does have a happy ending. At 5.30 the hearing service coordinator called to apologise and offered to do a home visit this morning to make up for my inconvenience. Feisty ILs have their uses George had a clear result this morning Mind you if they simply gave the clinic a list of appointments I wouldn't have sat for an hour and might have got back to Armley in time for a test yesterday. Fools!

Eddas · 26/04/2007 14:33

Re the bottle making. MW said to make them when the baby needs a feed. In a non-joking voice, dead straight faced she says, half hour before the baby wants a feed boil the kettle, then by the time half hour has passed and the baby needs feeding just make the bottle up Yeah ok, a newborn will wait half hour for the water to cool, WTF!!! Anyway we've been making 6 at a time and storing them in the fridge just as we did for dd. Would throw them away after 24hours if not used but not likely at the moment as ds likes his food Think they just need new guidelines every few years to keep parents on their toes

Nutty, i waited just over a week to use any soap/bath foam etc. MW at hospital just said because of the stitches don't use it. I just felt ok down there to use it so if you feel fine i'm sure it'll be ok. But as someone else said just use non perfumed. I used baby bath/soap as that's pretty harmless IMO, HTH

Ooogs, at 14 bottles, must take some organising to cope with 2 newborns plus a LO. Not sure why i'm shocked as ds probably has 7 bottles in 24 hours so obviously 2 would have 14,duh

Well, dh went out to wet the baby's head last night. Was worried about having 2 dc's but all went well DD went to bed a bit late so that i could feed ds first. Then he laid on her bed whilst i read a story, she wanted him to stay but i said maybe in a few years!! Anyway ds fed at 7 and 9 then went to sleep about 10.30, didn't wake for food again til 4 so not bad. DH rolled in at 1, fell alseep on the sofa and then when dd got up at 6.30 he went to bed and we all came downstairs.

My turn tonight, off out with the girls for a friends bday. Won't be getting too drunk though as dh at work tomorrow so gonna have to get up with the dc's and then take dd to pre school. Do not want a hangover

Sexonknackeredlegs · 26/04/2007 16:20

Eddas, it is mad isn't re the bottle making. I posted on the breast/bottle feeding thread as well, and I am getting such conflicting advice.

I think we are going to go with preparing bottles of water and keeping them out on the side until a feed is required, at which point we will add the formula.

Katie is getting through 7 bottles in 24 hours at the mo. I am actually keeping a log of when she is having a bottle and how much she is taking! Sad I know, but it helps me to see if there is a structure forming!

The 4 of us went out this afternoon to the local park. I sat in the cafe whilst B and dh played. It was ok, apart from the fact B fell off her bike - and the drama! She also got stung on a stinging nettle, and is now sat nursing her finger with a cold compress.

Hope everyone else is ok.

Need to head. xx

Bramshott · 26/04/2007 18:26

Oh 1b3 - you are having a rough time of it! Thinking of you.

No time to post more, but generally good here, although Orla still feeding 3-hourly at night when I'd like a little more by now (1 month tomorrow ).

Love to all. xxx

oooggs · 26/04/2007 19:14

Hi Ange - surviving JUST - how about you?

You ok Eddas? Yes military operations here!!!

SOKL - charts - yep us too!! When fed, how much and when last nappy changed. Mainly so that when dh does the 11pm ish feed I know what happened when I get up at 4am ish also I have got them muddled in the middle of the night when half asleep and feed Jack twice Erin screaming and Jack thinking it was Christmas.
