Hope tonight is better for you namechange. I read that babies who weigh more than 16lbs don't tend to be satisfied with just milk so depending on how much your ds weighs could it be that he is just hungry? Ds wasn't having full bottles but he's taken to the solids well. I don't think it's necessary that they are having lots of milk before you consider weaning if that makes sense. When will your ds be 6 months? Was he late?

I had an elcs booked for the 24th but I went into labour on the 14th so they performed a c section as soon as they could after I arrived at the hospital. I had eaten so they had to wait at least 3 hours before taking me into theatre. My waters broke at 6pm and I was in theatre just after midnight. Ds was breech hence the section. I've had problems with my scar (my previous scar turned keloid and the c section scar has also started healing like that) so I'm going for steroid injections into the scar tomorrow. Bit scared 😳

Hmmm that's really interesting! DS was a whopping 20 lbs (9.2kg) when I got him weighed at 5 months. He will be 6 months on 10th September. And he was born 11 days after the due date. So he's probably ready for solids, we are just not organised so we don't have feeding equipment (although I have ordered a couple of bits now) and haven't got any jars/sachets or the energy to make stuff at the moment! We're going on holiday next week so we are waiting until we get back before starting solids properly, although if we weren't going we would probably start now. Might give him a few things while we're away and see what happens, but it will be a bit ad hoc rather than a sustained effort to get him eating solids IYSWIM.

Good luck for tomorrow, hopefully it won't be as bad as you fear!

troodiedoo · 05/09/2017 20:16

I know my distended bladder problem was the fault of a midwife because I heard the registrar talking about it when they thought I was asleep. Everything was happening all at once though so I can't blame her.

purpleviolet1 · 05/09/2017 20:24

Namechange could you get a packet of baby rice and just start him on that? You just mix it with milk. Even if you started offering it once a day until you got back it would probably take him that long to get used to the whole thing and understand that the spoon goes in his mouth lol. What I'm trying to say is don't assume that it will be 0 to 100 straight away lol. I suppose there will be babies who have gone 0 to 100 too though so don't take too much notice of me lol 😂

@name , think dd must be about that, was 19lbs at 20w, gets weighed mon at 24w, think 21lbs ......

and milk wasnt enugh, has taken to weaning v well, tbh i wanted to start her after our holiday when 6mths but didnt happen like that lol

all you need is a hand blender/masher and cook some veg, or buy jars or even think farleys do powder meals like porridge that you add water to

NameChange30 · 05/09/2017 20:28

Ha no worries I don't think he will go from 0 to 100 if the carrot tasting session was anything to go by Grin

I guess part of the problem is we have no idea where to start, we were thinking of vegetables first (because they're healthy) but nothing wrong with a bit of baby rice... if it makes him sleep better I am more than willing!!

NameChange30 · 05/09/2017 20:30

Cross post, thanks Blondes

Maybe I will buy a few bits, will be fun to try on holiday with the in-laws as they don't get to see him much (they live in France).

purpleviolet1 · 05/09/2017 20:37

I know we aren't meant to talk about G Ford on mumsnet but I read her book and she recommended baby rice to start with .....

The Ella's kitchen range looks fab too and as soon as ds is better allergy wise I'll be giving him those sometimes. Asda had them on 6 for £5 and if you transfer into a plate you can keep the pouch for 48 hours in the fridge so not bad value really. I have got some frozen puréed veg in freezer and once he's moved on from the millet will start them again as well. It does seem super daunting but I spoke to my cousin who said she just stuck with the readymade jars initially as she was getting too stressed about it all and I know exactly what she meant. I was second guessing the texture etc as well when doing it myself. Once they are taking solids we'll (the actual physical bit of taking it off the spoon and swallowing) and I am more confident in feeding it him then it'll be easier to do home made stuff as well.

In ye olden days they used to say double the birth weight is when they are ready for weaning.

Why are we not supposed to mention g ford? It that one of those weird mums net things?

I bought 10 jars for a fiver today from supermarket and have them neatly arranged in the cupboard. Shame!

Carolann8584 · 05/09/2017 21:59

I've got a couple of Ella's in the cupboard ready for trying and a few bits frozen that I've done myself. Bought the Ella's as they are things we don't have very often parsnips and sweet potato but keen for DD to try a range not just stuff I like.

DD woke at 9:40 had 3oz again and is now back snoozing

coupester · 05/09/2017 23:07

Tried to wake DS at 10 for his last bottle (didn't realise time so was a bit later than usual), felt terrible as he didn't want to wake! He had all 5oz and I don't think he opened his eyes once! Bless.

We've got swimming tomorrow. He face planted the water briefly when DH gave him a bath this evening and there were a lot of tears so not sure he's ready to put his face in the pool yet!

Going to have a look at Ella's Kitchen now. I'm so unprepared, I've got a seat and that's it!

MotherofA · 05/09/2017 23:27

Troobie you awful person haha I bet you won't sleep tonight for the guilt of those jars!

Hugh I hope you get that sorted asap and it's nothing severe .

Name I never followed my complaint through at the time , I was very young and not in a good place with DD being ill. I kick myself regularly because when she realised she hadn't emptied my bladder and proceeded to drain 1 litre from it she said shit in front of me . She was not a very nice person .

As for weaning . I panicked a lot prior to it but decided to take the bull by the horns early on and after the initial first few days it has been great she seems happier, less sickly etc and has gained weight . If you are doing BLW just give bits of fruit and veg for him to hold while away . If not just mash 1 piece of boiled veg or use the 4 months plus jars etc they are simple veg combos or baby rice is easy as too . I bet lo will sleep better once you start . Hope you have an amazing holiday Smile

MotherofA · 05/09/2017 23:30

Coupester you only need a pack of spoons and a bowl or two Grin then it's just choosing what you want to feed lo .

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/09/2017 00:13

Have to say baby rice is bloody bland so I didn't bother with it and much easier to go for purée veg

We have pouches of Ella for for flight thought be easier then hard in small space

Kinda hoping I can insert nozzle into dd mouth and just squirt ......

Wishful thinking eh

And yes when I weaned dd she started to do 7-730 when I wake her

Sure a mixture of own cot helped with no more 3:4:5 am feeds and slept 7-11 and 11/730 as didn't stretch and wake self up banging on Moses basket

And then weaning at 17w MEsnt she dropped df

I get a full nights sleep - unless working 😉 V food poos / omg there is nothing quite like the food poos🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀

Carolann8584 · 06/09/2017 07:06

DD had her 3oz feed at 9:40 woke a couple of times for dummy but then woke up at 6:45!!!! 💃🕺💃🕺💃🕺 she woke at 5:20 for her dummy and I thought this is it she's awake now but no straight back to sleep. Even if it's a 1 off I'll take it Grin

Carolann8584 · 06/09/2017 07:06

Haha blondes squirt into DDs mouth

coupester · 06/09/2017 07:29

Yay Carol! Fingers crossed it's not just a one off!

NameChange30 · 06/09/2017 08:35

Mother
To be fair you were a new mother with a poorly baby and you were also poorly yourself so it's completely understandable that making a complaint wasn't the first thing on your mind. You both got through it and that's the important thing.

Carol
Nice one! Smile

I feel as if last night was a slight improvement, longest stretch of sleep was 2h40 and got a couple of 2h20 as well (compared to previous nights when 2h was the max). Still a lot of wake ups but hopefully it will reduce, fingers crossed! Also we had to actually wake up DS this morning!! Shock Never done that before but it was 8am and we though we'd better wake him.

Hope everyone else had a decent night.

Carolann8584 · 06/09/2017 09:05

Still only 2oz for breakfast just gone down for morning nap

coupester · 06/09/2017 09:09

DS has been awake since around 7:15 and will not go for his morning nap Sad he's going to be so grumpy at swimming

Coupester hope swimming goes ok!

So I think I actually need to go down a nappy size to prevent the leaks - think it's too loose.

Ds woke for feed earlier today, at 2.30am so gave him 6oz. He still wasn't interested in millet at 7.30am nor at 11am. Is this quite common that the baby takes solids well one day and not the next? I don't know what I'm doing wrong Sad he took it really well the first and second day, refused it today morning, was ok-ish last night and refused again today.

Hugh - I had sepsis too and I then miscarried my first pregnancy at 12 weeks. It was horrible Sad I don't take it everyday at the moment but I have done in the past when I've been particularly prone. If things get better then you can take it at the first sign of flare up. But yeah for you I would take everyday until you've been in the clear for a while. I have this one
