Screaming stamping hissy fit at having to go home, and generally behaving like a little sh*t. Oh, and chuck in a bit of answerin back. I don't mind (well, I do MIND, but I know how to handle it) if it is routine based meltdown - that's an entirely different thing... this was just basic demon child-ness.

I was leaning towards beating too!

Chloe55 · 16/04/2007 18:20

I put ds to bed at 4pm for time out from each other as we had lovely bath then it proceeded to take me 20mins to get a nappy on him as he thrashed about, screamed the house down and generally stropped - he fell asleep and is still there!

2boysmacca · 16/04/2007 18:26

Ooh I have one of those too. How old is she Flame, older or younger than mine (was 3 in Dec). I have a teenage toddler. Strop strop strop, slam doors, screaming, growling answering back. Comes down stairs as nice as pie, asks for something, doesn't get, strop strop strop, scream, growl answering back. This time last year he was a little angel with curls

2boysmacca · 16/04/2007 18:27

Mine are both in bed too. Ds2 still struggling with all themedicine he is doped up on. Ds1, I've had enough of and besides which he was up at 5.30.

PhoenixGirl · 16/04/2007 19:31

for all the stroppy children, i've got one of those too, if we tell Lewis 'no' he screams and attempts to hit us, he's got such a temper.

The dentist was ok i suppose, but its not very reassuring when they do the x rays and have you bite on the thingys and point the radiation machine at your face then walk out of the room

The roofer hasn't ended up coming out today he's coming tomorrow morning instead, but the joiners been and is gonna do us a rough estimate over the next few days. But how he was talking it sounded expensive but he didn't give us any idea on a rice so we'll have to wait and see.

Forgot to say earlier Have a geat holiday Frizbe

Jelley · 16/04/2007 19:37

for those with stroppy three year olds. Not fun.

pg - funnily I was thinking how much ds has a temper today. He wails when he can't go where he wants, and is really not keen on hand holding. I got the reins out today, and I think they will be a permanent accessory. He wasn't keen, but I walk everywhere, and I'm not having him run off and get sqashed, so he will have to get used to them.

I will buy him proper shoes, but I'm going to let him wear out the baby shoes first.

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/04/2007 20:09

DD will never hand hold, and won't walk in the right direction most of the time, so she still gets strapped into her pushchair when needs be. She actually hits as often when she's happy as when she's not, so I'm not reading anything into that at the moment, and hoping that she'll grow out of it.

No advice re 3 year olds, but hope it's just a bad day that all seems better tomorrow.

Chloe55 · 16/04/2007 20:09

Ds's latest trick is sitting and pulling down with his arm when he wants to go in the opposite direction from us or literally just flinging himself to the floor - head included! He has hurt himself so many times doing that and still hasn't learnt from his mistakes. He hates his pram, isn't keen on hand holding and is a nightmare on the reins - any other suggestions?

PhoenixGirl · 16/04/2007 20:16

Lewis always hits dh cos they play fight, well dh lays on the floor and Lewis crawls all over him and generally attacks him

He's still not mega confident walking but i walked the dog saturday and let him walk. He wasn't too bad at hand holding but kept letting go and holding on to the wall or getting down to crawl. I have bought reins ready though.

Jelley · 16/04/2007 20:16

I've always had the rule that you walk nicely, or are strapped in the buggy, regardless of how much you wail and fight. It worked with the dds....

mustrunmore · 16/04/2007 20:25

ds2 is crap at holding hands. But then, with ds1 around, ds2 is in the buggy 99% of the time anyway. He walks from the top of the road that nursery is on when we go to collect, or from the park if its been a nice day. But its with constant wriggling out of my grasp!

Flame, want to swop dd for the boy who had a seven minute tantrum in M+S today because 'I dont want to buy mangoes'? And who hit his brother in the face with a laptray this morning for absolutely no reason? His new favouite word is poo too, regardless of the context, happy or grumpy. Tedium. Tedium.

And poor ds2 now has a huge graze on his forehead where he fell off a winecrate in the garden onto the patio . He was just trying to keep up with ds1 and his friends; he's really starting to feel aware that he's left out.

Jelley · 16/04/2007 20:30

Maybe it is just an age thing, as they all seem to be so rubbish at hand holding.

I'm really not looking forward to having a 3 year old again.

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/04/2007 20:33

I thought 2 was supposed to be the worst age Jelley, not 3?

mrm - can't believe you didn't want to buy mangoes. What kind of mother are you?

Jelley · 16/04/2007 20:36

I do have a vague memory of 3 being worse than 2 actually.
I think dd1 is saving the worst up for when she is a teenager, as I've never had huge problems with her.

2boysmacca · 16/04/2007 20:36

Jelley, that rule worked for ds1. Most of the time ds2 is in his buggy for the same reason as mrm, it's not practical both being off their leads! Reins never worked with ds1, I've invested in a little life backpack for ds2, it seems to work.

Ds2 is always hitting, be it happy or sad. I am often whacked in the face for the fun of it

Just eaten. Dh got home at his usual time of 7.45. I'd prepared all the salad and as he walked in, I went to take the fish out of the oven. Whoops fish still sitting on the hob but oven was lovely and warm. Doh!!!!!

Jelley · 16/04/2007 20:37

I think mrm is being extra cruel and does want to buy mangoes, despite her ds telling her it is a bad idea

2boysmacca · 16/04/2007 20:38

3 is soooooo much worse than 2. I remember my niece being a little sh*t, in fact, 4 was worse than 3 too!!!!!
Terrible 2's
Tiresome 3's
Fuckin' awful fours

Happy days....

mustrunmore · 16/04/2007 20:38

Good. I'm glad its not just ds2 that hits alot!

Jelley, teenage girls. Yuck. It'll be a nightmare

I bought the mangoes anyway. He didnt notice till we were paying, which sparked off the crying again. The funny thing is, he really likes mango!

Jelley · 16/04/2007 20:40

I wasn't going to mention 4

It's quite embarrassing when you have a (large) 4 year old wailing all the way to school and home again every day for a weekbecause I wouldn't let her wear flip flops.

mustrunmore · 16/04/2007 20:41

I think I was about 23 before my Mum classed me as a good daughter

ChasingRabbits · 16/04/2007 20:44

oh god stroppy babies, ds2 can strop for england (and ds1 has always been such a nice well behaved little boy - everyone said i wouldn't get another like ds1!). ds2 doesn't do hand holding either so no tips, don't do alot of walking with him though cos usually go out with ds1 on his bike and there is no way that ds2 could keep up. both in bed and dh away, so another night on the pc and none of the housework getting done

2boysmacca · 16/04/2007 21:01

ds2 does hand hold!

Mrm 23? Was that because you were married by then

CR how old is ds1? Whereabouts are you in Cambs?

I had a wellington boot box delivered today and I have unpacked and built it. It needs a few more screws putting in so I have asked dh to finish it off He really doesn't do DIY so I am definitely asking for trouble

csws how is the car?

ChasingRabbits · 16/04/2007 21:08

ds1 is 4.5, I am just north of cambridge, about 10 miles, a few miles from Newmarket.
Is a wellington boot box just a box you put wellies in? or am I missing something...

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/04/2007 21:10

Car is great, except the Sat Nav thinks that there are no points of interest in Whipsnade , and the temperature display is disabled in the UK model so that it can display km/h .
