I'd never heard of BLW before. But I get the impression that it's not appropriate for a soon to be completely bottle fed baby.
Shimmer - I think on one of the links it says that their gums do a good job of chewing.

Kat - glad you had a lovely afternoon. Would be great fun to have a Jan thread meet up, but geography isn't in our favour! Not even sure that there's many of us 'oop north'. Vino and Wilkie, 2Happy and Dragon a bit further away. Where are you?

Lizz / 2Happy - glad I'm not the only one with a zimmer frame on this thread

Wilkie - how did DH get on?

Lizz - hope the jabs went ok. I've get the second set tomorrow morning. First time round she was fine - no calpol needed as she just slept, but I heard that the second set can give a worse reaction. Is this true ora load of bo**ocks?

ellieandhattieandchocolate · 28/03/2007 19:32

Rgee wilkie has deserted us for a couple of days as she and J have gone to stay at her mums come back I miss our msn convos talking about crap!

DH gone out with his mate to watch the england footie match, both dd's in bed just waiting for my chinese for one to turn up and mnetting and writing thankyou notes for christening presents tonight

Ellie got a trial morning at preschool tomorrow but it is also aster fayre day as they break up this week so should be good (I hope I am praying she'll settle really quickly when she starts so I can have a little bit of 1-1 time with Hattie!)

ellieandhattieandchocolate · 28/03/2007 19:33

easter fayre (I will learn to type!)

laughalot · 28/03/2007 19:34

Rgee im in the midlands, nottingham

laughalot · 28/03/2007 19:35

Ok eah how do I get on this msn malarky

Dragonhart · 28/03/2007 19:41

EAH- I wish I could hand Luke over to someone for 2 1/2 days a week! He is being such a terror. I feel like I have spent the day saying, 'NO! Dont do that'. Have decided to try and give him more attention tomorrow on his own though to see if that helps. I seem so tied up with Ruth though. Actually feels like I am not doing either of then justice or getting the house work done. Guess that is just how it is when you have more than one! LTH, you have my admoration!

ellieandhattieandchocolate · 28/03/2007 19:46

dragon have been counting down to this since dec feel very mean but she gets so bored at home and will love th eplaydoh/paintng/craft stuff they do there, its not cheap £8 per session till the term after they are 3 as ellies birthday is 7th sept I have to pay till christmas as term date commences 1st sept but pil's are paying half the costs as an early birthday present as we could only afford to send her one day a week till i go back to work and preschoo, advise 2 mornings a week to settle them.

Laughalot chinese just arrived then I'll do the link to sign up to msn!

Shimmer, a lot of people round my way, including several friends, don't immunise at all. I do, but worry about it when they have them as I think the reasons against are valid too. On balance I choose to immunise but there are serious issues surrounding putting such a large amount of vaccine into a tiny baby. Yes, diseases are horrible but they can have severe reactions in a few cases. I guess some think that their children are not likely to get the illness as most ARE immunised but like I said, herd immunity is dependant on a certain number being immunised or the diseases start to creep back. Which is why many who choose not to are considered selfish, but then they might say why should they put their child at risk for the greater good. Very tricky area, and one I tend not to air an opinion about as it's so emotive,
I expect there are some fiery threads about it somewhere in the mnet archives

ELM · 28/03/2007 20:00

Hi Guys,

I popped in and out of the Jan 07 ante-natal thread...hope you don't mind if I join you?

DS Arran(14 weeks) was born 6 weeks early, in December

How is everyone? Getting much sleep?

DS has recently gone from 4-5 hourly feeds to 2-3 hourly BF snacks, screeching at 7pm bedtime, and refusing his nightly formula feed.

So please don't tell me all of your little darlings are sleeping through the night!!

CarrotAteAllTheEggs · 28/03/2007 20:11

Hi ELM, . Not sleeping through the night, no, but it definitely helps to not look at the clock!

Dragonhart · 28/03/2007 20:14

Welcome back ELM.

Ruth feeds every three hours in the day too but she does sleep well at night. She has been knawing on my nipples for the last few days though and they are agony! Feel bruised and bitten!

How have you been?

ellieandhattieandchocolate · 28/03/2007 20:27

ELM Hello I was on the antenatel thread from the beginning (scary nearly a yr ago!) and I was elliepmummy then hope you are okay, Hattie is sleeping through (started last week at almost 11 weeks) but because she is my perfect contented second baby unlike her big sister and I have formula fed her from the start so not sure if this has helped or not? he goes to bed at 7pm (dreamfeed at 10pm) and sleeps till 6.30 when Ellie tends to wake her up because she is not the quietest child in the world in fact I am sure she has a microphone stuck in her throat

Just had very weird msn convo, saw my little pop up telling me wlkie signed on got very excited thinking she had laptop access at her mums and starred a msn convo and it was her dh!!! Anyway job interview went well and he'll find out end of the week I left him in peace after that, so beware if you are msn tonight ans see wilkies name it isnt her!!!!!

Right laughalot UD told me about msn and got me addicted I told wilkie and got her addicted now your turn heres the limk

msn

download it and you may have to make up msn address as it wouldnt accept my aol one but wilkie awas able to use her normal email addy my msn address is

[email protected]

Some others are
wilikes is
[email protected]

ud's is
[email protected]

Jodie and shimmer and I think Lizz is on it as well

then when you are set up let me know your msn address I can add you to address book you then click on someones name and start convo and if other people are online and you want them to join you simply invite to join convos etc

You can set yourself up as 'away' 'offline'etc so people dont contact you and you can block people if you dont want them to be able to message you {no blocking me now!!!1 )

ellieandhattieandchocolate · 28/03/2007 20:28

changed Hatties sex that should have read she not he def no dangly bits for her!

JodieG1 · 28/03/2007 20:34

Carrot - well I weaned dd at 16 weeks on the advice I was given and now she has ashtma, hayfever and has recently been diagnosed with abdominal migraine which we think has a milk allergy trigger. We're currently eliminating it from her diet to find out. It's a horrible thing for her and she's been off school a lot with it, had stomach cramps and aches for days been to the drs loads and eventually they said that. All this is likely due to the early weaning That's why I've gone on about it so much because I wouldn't like anyone else's dc to suffer, it might not seem that bad to wean early but you just don't know how dc will be affected by it.

JodieG1 · 28/03/2007 20:35

Oh and also each bout is accompanied by sickess and diahhrea

CarrotAteAllTheEggs · 28/03/2007 20:53

Oh, that sounds horrible, jodie
We have allergies in the family, me to animals and slightly asthmatic, dd developed asthma at four months (before weaning) and had a terrible cough for months. Seems to have grown out of it now though, although her skin is very sensitive. I wonder if that was affected by my diet? I'm on 2 threads at the moment about breastmilk and allergy, it's got very scientific (not from me!) but it's really interesting. I have already bought some different milk today, it's ok in tea actually, but I think I'll skip cereal!

JodieG1 · 28/03/2007 22:03

Is it Ds1 hasn't any of these problems either and I didn't wean him until over 6 months, that's why I'm doing the same with Ethan. Ds1 is so much more robost than dd as well even though he's younger. Sigh, nothing I can do now but I really wish I could turn back the clock.

CarrotAteAllTheEggs · 28/03/2007 22:11

just seen you on that poorly baby thread, Jodie, horrible isn't it? Why won't they take them?

JodieG1 · 28/03/2007 22:13

I totally agree Carrot, can't understand why either. So sad

CarrotAteAllTheEggs · 28/03/2007 22:16

like plenty of people said, in that instance, people want to be wrong. I hate the way parents think they can't question the gp, I'm furious with myself for believing my doc about the worm stuff, my instincts were right.

JodieG1 · 28/03/2007 22:19

Me too. I think instincts are usually right, you can tell when you lo is ill. What was the worm stuff? must have missed that?

CarrotAteAllTheEggs · 28/03/2007 22:24

ds1 brought worms home. Nice. Chemist said breastfeeders can't have the medicine and to get stuff from the gp, but he gave me the same stuff and wouldn't acknowledge that it made LO ill when he had tummy ache and diahorrea the next day, even though that's what it's reported to do have changed docs now. Must go to bed as I'm getting a headache, have been on here hours tonight.

Dragonhart · 28/03/2007 22:31

Jodie - I used to have stomach migraines (is that the same as abdominal migranes?) when I was younger and they changed into normal migraines as I got older (which is normal I am told). They did get much better when I cut out all the same triggers as normal migraines so cheese, chocolate and fizzy drinks (or so the doc told me at the time). I was breastfed and weaned at 5 1/2months so I have to say I dont think that played a part with me. Also Luke was weaned at 6 months, by the book with introducing one thing at a time and still has problems with eczema.

Dont get me wrong, I am a strong advocate of 6month weaning and will be doing the same with Ruth, it is just that we shouldnt feel guilty about things retropectivly. Dont cut yourself up too much about it. xxx

ELM · 29/03/2007 08:14

morning! Had to go last night as my MIL dropped in at 8:30. Was the evil daughter-in-law as I wouldn't let her go and cuddle DS....trying to restart the 7pm bedtime!

Dragon: we've had a couple of early probs( hospitilised with urinary tract infection that spread to bloodstream, reflux, and holes in his heart) but he is now a 11 1/2 lb bouncing baby! As for me I was neurotic in the beginning(first baby), but am far happier now (chilled out emoticon)

haven't even considered weaning yet! I'm starting to look in to childcare....have an appt for tour of a nursery on Mon.... can't believe how quickly the time is going.

Lizzzombie · 29/03/2007 08:32

Morning! (bright and early emotion) I had 5 hours sleep in a row! Woo hoo! LO slept from 7.30 to 10.30pm to 4.30pm then woke up at 6am properly.
No sleeping through yet though...we are getting there though!
His first set of jobs went fine. I was so worried. His poor little face was a picture. He looked at me with utter anguish. If I could read his mind I am sure he was saying "Mum what did you do this to me for?" But I checked his temperature a few times and it was all good, so didnt bother with the calpol.
Good luck Rgee with the 2nd lot. Hope LO is ok. x
