First time mum and all that, should I be guiding him to work it differently so he doesn't have a grumpy late afternoon?

Namechange best tip someone gave me was to start the day at the same time everyday (regardless of good or bad night) then keep waketime for around 2 hours and encourage the nap. Then repeat.

Apparently if you do whatever it takes to get them to sleep at the same time everyday then there body clock will get used to it. So you could drive/ walk when you want him to sleep for example. Takes about 5 days of consistency I think

OK thank you purple Smile

I guess if I can get him in the habit of naps at more regular times it might become easier to get him down for a nap without having to spend ages rocking/bouncing/pushing the pushchair! It's worth a shot!

We don't even have a set bedtime atm, I was starting to establish it and then went on holiday which messed things up. Last night he went to sleep for the night a lot earlier than usual which took us by surprise. He must have been tired.

Definitely feel as if I'm guessing most of the time!

purpleviolet1 · 11/08/2017 18:24

Yeah a rough routine is as much for the parent to keep sane as it is for the baby to know what's coming next. Apparently it helps the baby feel secure!

I wonder what they would say to us if they could talk lol

Yes definitely starting to lose my sanity a bit! Sad

It would be great if they could tell us what's up - I'm looking forward to that!

troodiedoo · 11/08/2017 18:36

I also have a nap resister 😑 really miss being able to get stuff done! Will persevere..

purpleviolet1 · 11/08/2017 18:38

Hi troodie!

Hiya purple 😀 gosh I hope so! People seem to expect me to be over the newborn exhaustion by now. I'm not!

purpleviolet1 · 11/08/2017 18:53

Neither am I.......

I don't think I could handle it if DD didnt nap on top of the feeding issues.

As usual she had a full 6oz before bed at 7. She's is really good when it comes to bed time routine (just jinxed it haven't i) I've started doing a 7oz bottle as she drains the 6 and tonight she went a tiny bit over so just want to cover myself if she wants that little bit extra.

She's started to get the going down for a nap routine as well. Puts up a bit of a fight which lasts minutes until she comes round to the idea of a snooze.

Hugh
If he falls asleep in our arms we put him down in his Sleepyhead (in the Snuzpod). He sometimes wakes up when we put him down, on a good day he'll go back to sleep and on a bad day he won't. If he falls asleep in the pushchair or bouncer we obviously leave him there.
We've never tried putting him down in the Sleepyhead/Snuzpod awake until he falls asleep. He fights sleep so much that I just can't imagine him falling asleep by himself. Even in the bouncer with me sitting there bouncing him, he'll still cry.
I do go into our bedroom and close the curtains and it sometimes helps to get him to sleep but only after a long time rocking him (or sometimes feeding him to sleep in bed, but I only feed him to sleep at night now, it doesn't seem to happen in the day any more).
Feeling a bit lost today but tomorrow will be a new day and hopefully DH and I can come up with a plan even though I'm sure DS will have other plans.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/08/2017 20:41

Yep. I agree with this

Always start day at same time regardless if bad night. Wake up and start day again

2 hrs later and bed tho always seem to sleep 9ish even tho wakes 7303. She's shattered by then which is stupid as she's just slept 12/13hrs

Yes naps in cot if home. SHAUN the sheep :lullaby on you tube etc so gets to recognise music = nap time

NameChange30 · 11/08/2017 20:44

Thanks Blondes

Hugh I've been weird with the thyroid meds too everything is fuzzy ! I haven't had chance to have bloods done .
Carol try not to worry too much about amounts . You can't over or under feed a baby they will always let you know when they need more or have had enough Smile.
I log mine in baby plus app so I can see what times she ate hahahaha .
Purple that's great good luck for tonight !

DD first night in her cot tonight she went straight to sleep ! I have a bumper set to use but not sure I like it so may not use .

CUTE!!!

Please don't Use cot bumpers / could cause cot death if snuggle up to them and can't breathe

Carolann8584 · 11/08/2017 21:16

So cute mother

troodiedoo · 11/08/2017 21:32

Yep DD is definitely not a breakfast lady. Woke at 6:30 big improvement. Didn't want to touch her bottle til 7:20 and only had 2oz. She back in bed for her morning nap. She only woke once during the night a 3:30 had half a feed and then back to dreamland

MotherofA · 12/08/2017 09:59

Argh I wish I could sleep in the day ! DD fed at 10.30 and 3 but very noisy since 3 wouldn't go back to sleep 😴

troodiedoo · 12/08/2017 10:43

We were up at 3 too 😴 then half five.

I might get dressed this afternoon. Possibly.
