New thread to celebrate the small things (like first smiles and eating steak with one hand), commiserate over the less fabulous stuff (poonamies, vomit eruptions and wind spring to mind) and someone to talk to at 4am Grin

Morning all! Goodness yes this heat is tough with a baby isn't it? I was indeed also up in in laws spare room feeding at the weekend and to be honest it was a blissful hour!! Only DP and his dad were in and they ended up having a profound conversation about DPs childhood and the breakdown of his mum and dads marriage, something DP had wanted to discuss for ages. His dad is really good with Harrison and interested in him which is a surprise as his mum had said that when DP and siblings were young he wasn't bothered with them until he could take them to the pub. If the way he is with our baby is totally new to him then... well he's a natural at looking like a natural 🤔

I had gone upstairs to feed to save my back whilst I could as we drove 6 hours that day with feed stops everywhere and anywhere. I don't mind lopping a boob out, especially since I've bought feeding dresses, I'm not confrontational at all but I always have a a very assertive 'I'm feeding my son' plus glare at the ready just in case the need ever arises.

1004Rise · 19/06/2017 08:15

So glad we're not dealing with the same heat as some of you was only 22 in our bedroom last night and that was bad enough!

@Badgerbird I know what you mean about finding free hands, you can probably track Baby Rise's feeding by when I post on Mumsnet 🤔

@Rabbitykins55 your DH gets a gold star for keeping you some food!

@Sipperskipper wow, that's a bit too dramatic a way to spend Father's Day. Glad your dad is ok - is he going be showing off his war wound for the next few weeks?

@dreamofhungarianlanterns I'm with you on the past caring about where I feed her, haven't quite got to feeding in a park or anything yet but I've be practicing that look!!

If there was one thing that would make me give up breastfeeding it would be the leaky boobs, I know this is so minor compared to what some of you have had to deal with and I feel bad about moaning about something so minor but it's driving me crazy!! Was out for two hours yesterday and soaked through a reusable and a disposable pad on one side 😖 it's beyond ridiculous. Does anyone have any bright ideas to help limit it?

savagehk · 19/06/2017 10:01

1004 I'm back on the Lansinoh breast pads, they seem to be the most absorbent for me, not leaked through one yet.

MrsJW15 · 19/06/2017 10:38

@1004Rise the leaks are annoying! And lots of my disposable pads seem to get all scrunched when I move clothes to feed. Maybe washables are better for that? I'm hoping leaking goes down as my supply regulates but that may be wishful thinking.

savagehk · 19/06/2017 11:56

mrsjw lansinoh have self adhesive bits so don't move for me

CoxsOrangePippin · 19/06/2017 12:23

@1004rise no ideas re leaking less but I'm finding the black-and-white dress I have shows leaks less than any other colours.

@dreamofhungarianlanterns that sounds like a really good conversation for your DP to have, and fingers crossed for what sounds like the start of a good granddad relationship.

This is my first day with DH back at work. He has been really involved which is so great as I've struggled. But today feels really daunting - the monotony, lack of stimulation for my brain, the lack of routine... I know it won't be exactly like this for all six months but right now it feels a bit scary.

FoxMulder · 19/06/2017 14:52

Does anyone else just take the breastpad out to feed? I'm constantly losing them and they are scattered all over my house.

Rustler74 · 19/06/2017 14:56

Woke up to whimpering of babyRustler at about 4.20
Tried feeding off right side slightly less sore nipple than left, but he was fussing so now that side sore too! OH complaining not enough room in bed and noisy, needs his rest Hmm
Totally engorged with crying and fussing baby at 4.50, so tried shower, baby Rustler now screaming and boobs hurting, milk ducts blocked with poor relief from shower and massage.
Tried boob again to no avail.
Baby rustler cries himself to sleep in my arms, resorted to spare room to give OH another hour sleep before he gets up for work. Shared bed slept on top of duvet to be safe.
Woke up at 7.30 (oh to work) engorgement in the highest degree, tried nipple shield on left side, no less painful.
Baby asleep so should I be but no other things more interesting and wide awake! Clearly! Still wet nappies!
Back to sleep on spare bed, works well.
Etc etc
It's too hot Confused

MrsJW15 · 19/06/2017 15:01

Savage those are in my Sainsburys order. Fingers crossed they stick!

1004Rise · 19/06/2017 15:03

It's the lansinoh disposable pads I have and on one side they're fine, and I bought reusables so it didn't feel so much like a wet nappy on my boobs 😣 guess I'm just going to have to keep changing them....

@CoxsOrangePippin hope you're getting on ok on your own today!

Acorncat · 19/06/2017 15:15

I leak a lot and use lansinoh pads, I just check often that they haven't crumpled down and rearrange them after feeding. If you can feel when you let down then applying pressure can limit the milk flow ( I just cross my arms across my chest). I got reusable ones to use at night but they stay wet and I can't imagine it's good to have a wet pad against nipples for hours Confused

teainbed · 19/06/2017 15:55

@Rustler74 sounds like a nightmare! How has today gone? Can you express a bit to make the latch easier?

MrsJW15 · 19/06/2017 16:47

@Rustler74 hope your day is going better. But yes, so hot!

1004Rise · 19/06/2017 18:15

I don't think I can feel let down.... what does it feel like. If I could anticipate when my boob was going to misbehave it might be easier. 😣🤔

teainbed · 19/06/2017 18:45

@1004Rise it's feels a bit sore to me, boobs filling up quickly and uncomfortably until he starts sucking properly.

Our night feeds are long, anyone else? Easily 45 minutes feeding and a bit more for nappy changing and resettling.

Who is taking their new baby on holiday soon? We go in 2 weeks! Just a holiday house on a beach with lots of family helpers coming along for bits of the week.

Badgerbird · 19/06/2017 19:43

Yep tea, we take an hour more or less each feed/ session.

Oh baby Carla Rose will not settle today Sad She's had half hour nap since 10am and generally screams when I put her down/if I'm not feeding .... it's been a loooooong day!!

MrsJW15 · 19/06/2017 19:57

Tea long feeds here too, usually 40 mins to an hour. It's a long time to be up at night. I read a lot so I don't fall asleep. Apparently they do get more efficient.

We are off to France in 3 weeks for 12 days. The inlaws will be there for 3 days at the start and 2 at the end. They'll be helpful in the house (it's their house!) but less with baby. They are still nervous holding her - you'd never guess they'd had 3 kids!

Paige84 · 19/06/2017 20:01

tea yes, we're going away in 2 weeks too, little one will be 7 weeks exactly. We're doing the beach house with the dogs and added family members too so I'm hoping (with crossed fingers!) it'll be a lovely first family holiday. If nothing else, at least we can be sleep deprived with a much better view than usual!
badger same here with the lack of napping and the screaming/angry baby shouting if I put him down or think about putting him down.... or talk about maybe, perhaps, one day putting him down....!! Bless him, the heat is driving him bonkers. Looks like it'll be a little cooler by tomorrow at least.

Tickyboovicki · 19/06/2017 20:51

@1004Rise I couldn't feel mine for the first 4/5 weeks then all of a sudden I could!

@Badgerbird we've had an equally long day, finally asleep and I darent move for fear of waking him, but need a wee!

Our night feeds sent too bad, Freddie seems to have got more efficient!

Hope everyone's little ones are ok with the heat!

CoxsOrangePippin · 19/06/2017 21:05

Pippin feeds fast (my milk is a bit fast apparently) but the tradeoff is that he's so windy from sucking air, it takes the next 45 mins at least to burp and settle him.

@rustler74 I find hand-expressing or just rolling/massaging the nipple better than pumping for softening it enough for Pippin to get a latch.

@1004rise I had a weepy day tbh, but I did go to my baby Cbt group so at least that was out of the house in a place where it was ok to be having a little cry!

vanilla8 · 19/06/2017 21:42

So HV came today and baby vanilla put on weight, I ended up giving two formula top ups and the rest expressed over weekend so seems to be heading in right direction.
In between that last night we had a cluster feeding session of 10 mins on boob then 15 mins off then back on and repeat which lasted till 1am.

Night feeds after that are atleast 40 mins too and with nappy change and trying to settle him it is an hour. Still need to master the feed lying down position.

Not off on hols till end of August, need to go out and get passport pic done this week!

@Rustler74 hope ur boobs are not as blocked?

Hope everyone is managing OK in this heat!

savagehk · 19/06/2017 22:08

I'm very lucky in that night feeds are super quick and efficient. During the day she has a lazy latch, I'm intending to go to a support group to check if there's anything i can do. It doesn't hurt me at all but she often makes a clicking sound, and i think she then sucks in air.

EsmesBees · 19/06/2017 22:24

Night feeds still taking about 45 mins here too. You must be getting near the point where they suddenly get quicker tea?

Sorry you had a weepy day Cox, but well done for getting through it and going to the group. Hope it helped.

My toddler has been driving me nuts today. She's not coping with the heat at all. Plus, I think she's starting to notice how much of my time the baby is monopolising. It's been such a huge change and she's only a baby herself really

Rustler74 · 19/06/2017 23:59

Baby rustler had been ok this evening. We even got a little walk in after dinner. Second part of the day he's been feeding better (constantly or so?) so I hope that hasn't sent my boobs into mental over producing ?
Scar hurting and bleeding still not finished, so fed up with that.
BUT....
We got smiles SmileShockGrin not many but the cutest thing ever x we are in love!

mightymouse76 · 20/06/2017 02:38

Hi all, signing in for night shift!

@MrsJW15 @1004Rise @dreamofhungarianlanterns I weirdly feel more confident in public places than I do in my own back garden re boobing. A combination of religious neighbours on one side and a house full of builders on the other!

Night feeds taking from 30/40 mins to an hour. Then winding and upright time on top so quite long. Biscuits and this thread help keep me awake
My right boob is faster flowing and more full than my left so he's efficient on that one and slower on the other.

@teainbed we just dropped the idea of going abroad with DP's folks next month. It was a lovely invitation but his parents are not hands on at all- His Dm won't do nappy, for instance, and isn't very tuned in to what nursing parents actually need in the way of practical support, so i fear it would be an unrelaxing and expensive week. We've decided to save the money for courses or other things we want to do.

Baby and me so hot!! 27.3 in here, although have fan running. Baby seems to like the white noise. I found wiping him down with wet wipes seemed to help too- he would normally protest but seemed to enjoy it now

@Rustler74 hope your boobs are calmer tonight!

@1004Rise my let down feels like a numb tingle, sometimes with added little needle stabbing pains Confused
