March 2017 babies

So my 9 day old baby boy was delivered by emcs at 37+5 gestation due to presenting breech (waters broke and contractions started). First baby so lots to learn!

Currently giving him expressed milk and formula topup. We tried breastfeeding but there was latch issues, he got very frustrated as he wasn't getting satisfied and my nipple was cracked and bleeding within a couple of days. I then got blocked ducts and the whole thing was a disaster really. I feel like a bit of a failure and did get help from bf clinic for the latch but it was little too late. With the c section recovery I just feel too exhausted to have him on the boob constantly and least with formula he is getting some decent sleep (although I'm usually expressing during this time so don't get a proper rest).

Oh and his fussy time is between 10pm -2am. He tends to feed and need winded on repeat between this time. It's exhausting but tonight I had a nap from 7-10pm in anticipation.

Come and join me for some chat...

If we are home most of the day she will nap 9am til 11am if she wakes up at 6. Then have another 2 hours from 3pm-ish thats it. If we are out she will nap in the car and have odd 45 minutes here and there then have her 2 hour afternoon nap when we are home.

If I need to go out I try and let her have her morning nap in case she misses her afternoon nap. If we go out early I try and get home for about 2 so I can feed her before her afternoon nap

We just sort of go with the flow but I have noticed on two occasions when he has been over tired and as a result been impossible to settle without lots of crying, rocking, patting etc.

I try not to have too many consecutive all- day outings as he ends up catnapping only as he is so bloody nosy!

YY DS definitely naps less when we're out. Had to take him to London for the afternoon and he barely slept at all!

Carolann8584 · 01/07/2017 14:03

DD definitely off her food today, barely finishing 3oz again! And we are back to 2 night feeds?? Sad

Not sure it's her teeth, she's her usual smiley self, little bit of drooling but not irritable, her cheeks aren't red or anything. I try to give her a teething dummy or muslin to chew on but she just smiles and spits them out. She was chewing her hands a bit last week but not in a few days. She's napping as usual. Must just be having one of those days

purpleviolet1 · 03/07/2017 19:24

How is everyone doing??

The lady at the post office said 'ohhh your expecting congratulations!' I said I've had him Sad I know I generally stand with my belly out (i overarch my back and have my shoulders quite back)and since the c section I do it even more so that's the first thing I need to work on. Is there any suggestions anyone has? I do feel ready to take on some exercise now. I just have to be careful I don't tire myself out. My tummy has shrunk back mostly but defo got a bit of a wobbly tummy.

I've also gone a bit mad on coke since the birth as I had gestational diabetes...

Oh dear what an idiot, surely everyone knows not to assume a woman is pregnant!!
My suggestion is to try not to be ashamed of your tummy or indeed your body, you grew a human in there FGS! And it takes time to recover.
I've found it really difficult to find time to exercise especially since DS has stopped taking a bottle dammit but I think the advice is to start with things that are gentle or are specifically post natal classes, so you rebuild your core strength and don't overdo it and injure yourself.
Near me there's postnatal yoga (which I've been doing) and a few things I haven't done like a general postnatal exercise class, and buggy fit. Tbh I just want to go for a swim but haven't been able to Sad

Thanks ladies!

Namechange is the post natal yoga just for you or is it with baby too?

I've tried classes with and without baby, and I prefer without Grin It's the only thing I do when I can just focus on me... The mum and baby yoga was ok (and it's better than nothing if you can't leave the baby to do a class by yourself), there was a mixture of yoga for the mums and singing etc for the babies.
I've also been to baby yoga which was more for the babies and that was quite good.

Thanks namechange.

Cannot believe DS is 16 weeks today. I'm amazed. I'm finding things so much easier and more enjoyable now than the first 10 weeks.

Anyone else experiencing a lot of hairloss now? It's driving me mad!

Carolann8584 · 06/07/2017 00:29

Yes! Loads! Sad was washing my hair in the shower yesterday and just found clumps of hair everywhere, I have quite long hair so it looked like I lost half my hair. I know I didn't but it felt like I did.

Am full of a cold this week and so is DD. She was supposed to have her jabs this week finally but when I called to confirm the time they said there were no appointments for jabs this week! Was so annoyed, my OH has booked the day off and now they've changed it he can't take the new day off.

DD is 15 weeks tomorrow, had her weighed last week. 13lb 5oz, slowly out growing her 0-3 months clothes now Grin

Carolann8584 · 06/07/2017 06:18

Well had a rough night with DD, was awake with her sleep in my arms most do the night as she is so congested she kept choking on her phlegm when she coughed

purpleviolet1 · 06/07/2017 08:03

Carol- oh no, I had the cold last week really bad and thought DS escaped it but he sounded sniffly yesterday and didn't sleep well last night. Kept coughing and couldn't settle. I've got something called karvel which my friend recommended so I put that on a Muslin beside him and it seemed to help a bit. I gave him nurofen as well. He has had a fever last few days but low grade. Do you have a nasal aspirator? Someone recommended it on here when DS had his first cold at 6 weeks. It was great. Will use it today after I've bought some saline drops.

Carolann8584 · 06/07/2017 08:37

Yes we nasal aspirator, and some drops to put in a bowl but she still struggled with breathing. She's so good with it though after each cough/choking she just gave a great big smile

Feel so bad though every time I sneeze or cough it makes her jump out of her skin

NameChange30 · 06/07/2017 10:54

carol
We used a nasal spray (Sterimar baby) when DS was congested and it definitely helped. Might be worth a try?

Haven't lost much hair yet, it's really thick so I would actually quite like to lose some!

Carolann8584 · 06/07/2017 11:08

Thanks name I'm going boots later so will see what I can get

MotherofA · 06/07/2017 22:53

Hi All !

Hope you are all well ? Hugh one of my DD teeth is cutting too ! She screamed all day yesterday . Thanks for the info on weaning !

Purple I can't believe someone said that to you ! Have you looked into diastatis ? I had it with DD1 and the special exercises helped to get my tummy down . My tummy has gone down this time , I just have the issue with the painful lump and yes I definitely need to get a second opinion when I get 5 mins .
Personally with this pain in my stomach the most I can do is power walk really atm .

Carol I hope you are well and DD is feeling better !

DD has tried some broccoli (blended ) , peas and strawberries so far hehe .

Purple a few people I have spoken to have said their babies improved no end when going on food . However you and baby have been through a lot so I hope that everything goes well with weaning for you !

Carolann8584 · 07/07/2017 01:52

Looks like I'm in for another rough night.

DD has been her usual smiley self, bit off her food again, think it was a combo of the heat and being congested.

She went down for bed early at 7 but has struggled to stay asleep on her back. I currently have her lying on the side which seems to help her breathe a bit better

Carolann8584 · 07/07/2017 01:54

She's lying with me, I'm watching the chase for company, I wouldn't be able to sleep if I put her in her side in her Moses

purpleviolet1 · 07/07/2017 10:41

Morning all,

Carol hope you got some sleep.

DS is really going for it with the head control, if I hold him against my shoulder he can do a complete 180 now it's so cute Grin

He didn't sleep too well either with his congestion, was up on and off since 4am. Are any babies sleeping through the night?

We haven't moved into our house yet. Thinking of weaning once we are in , hopefully in a couple of weeks. It sounds exciting though mother! Silly question but do you begin by always offering breakfast initially and work on that or do you just start giving them whatever whenever?

I haven't looked into diastitis properly, but I defo need to work on my stomach muscles. To be honest they werent great before either after my last op. Basically if I suck my stomach in it's not toooo bad but if I relax it's pretty horrendous haha!

We have been lucky in that DS has occasionally slept through but it's certainly not a regular thing. Until now it's been easy enough to feed him and get him back to sleep, but last night he was wide awake for 2 hours - bit of a killer Sad And I hear 4 months is sleep regression time... Confused
