March 2017 babies

So my 9 day old baby boy was delivered by emcs at 37+5 gestation due to presenting breech (waters broke and contractions started). First baby so lots to learn!

Currently giving him expressed milk and formula topup. We tried breastfeeding but there was latch issues, he got very frustrated as he wasn't getting satisfied and my nipple was cracked and bleeding within a couple of days. I then got blocked ducts and the whole thing was a disaster really. I feel like a bit of a failure and did get help from bf clinic for the latch but it was little too late. With the c section recovery I just feel too exhausted to have him on the boob constantly and least with formula he is getting some decent sleep (although I'm usually expressing during this time so don't get a proper rest).

Oh and his fussy time is between 10pm -2am. He tends to feed and need winded on repeat between this time. It's exhausting but tonight I had a nap from 7-10pm in anticipation.

Come and join me for some chat...

I was thinking of getting a jumparoo, what age can they use it till Hugh? Also I have been given a Mamas & Papas version of the bumbo with the tray which I am looking forward to trying when we get back off our hols.
Carol how is lo? Purple I have spoken to several people who have had babies with reflux and apparently it's so much easier once they are on food .
I am also really enjoying my lo now . I am quite an anxious person and with the pain etc I found the first few weeks quite stressful . Now she is smiling etc and I am more familiar with her cries I feel a bit more relaxed Smile

Carolann8584 · 15/06/2017 09:09

Glad things are getting better for you mother

DD is doing fine, finding more spots and more with blisters every time I change her but they aren't nearly as bad as her DBs. She is still off her feeds and throwing up a bit more than usual, lots of water with what looks like clotted formula bits in. Doesn't stop her smiling or "chatting" Grin

Just found out my DB (the groom at the wedding we went to) has also caught the chicken pox off my DSS. He isn't handling it as well as his niece lol!

Omg your poor DB ! Hope he gets well soon that's not good .
Brilliant Hugh thanks my friend is selling hers so I'm going to buy it . I don't think I enjoyed DD1 as much as a baby either , too busy worrying !
Forgot to mention DD is definitely teething ! She has also been dribbling and chewing her hands for a few weeks and now we can see and feel her bottom two front teeth ! Freaky little thing haha x

NameChange30 · 15/06/2017 10:37

Hugh
Sounds exactly like teething to me! DS has been the same. Apparently it can start pretty early, even if the teeth don't come through yet they are obviously growing under the surface!
I've got some teething granules, a dribblechew bib, and a teething ring you can put in the fridge, although DS can't hold it yet so I'm holding it in his mouth for him. It's cute to watch because he hasn't quite got the hang of chewing - he keeps sticking his tongue out which must be what he's learned from breastfeeding Grin

The hardest thing at the moment is that he's been really fighting sleep. When he's clearly tired he will just cry and resist all our efforts to help him sleep Sad I also find it hard to tell whether it's hunger or tiredness sometimes. And with the teething he could be hungry but in too much pain to eat Sad

purpleviolet1 · 15/06/2017 11:15

Lovely updates for everyone!

DS definitely teething here too. Been gnawing at his hands like mad and experimenting with his fingers too. Lots of drool. Also got the teething ring out and he loves it. He also chews on the teat instead of feeding sometimes and then I have to wait until he's finished chewing so he can have his milk lol.

Which teething granules do you have? I've got the chamomila granules which are for
Both colic and teething but not tried them yet.

Had the 12 week jags the other day as well as BCG a few days before that. Thankfully they weren't as bad as the 6 week jags! Although did have a temp and gave him a couple of doses of calpol.

Ordered the jumperoo from
Amazon last night, its half price £65 instead of £130 or something...

Sorry to hear about your DBro Carol! Poor thing. Hope your DD recovers quickly too.

Name change is your LO in a bit more of a routine now? If it helps I read that baby's awake time can comfortably be awake for 1.5 hours. 2 hours is the limit. I find this really works for DS. Even if he doesn't appear to be tired (which he doesn't sometimes) I put him in Moses basket with white noise and within 15 mins he is asleep. If he is showing signs of tiredness then after the second yawn/ rubbing eyes I get him down even if he has only been up for an hour. If we are out and about he can struggle to nod off, if he does manage it only tends to be a catnap and I've noticed he isn't as settled on those days. So I try and make sure we have at least one nap at home. I try not to go out for long periods for more than one day on the trot. Try and aim
For long outings every other day.

I've got the Ashton & Parsons granules, just bought them in my local Boots. They have matricaria in them which I had to Google, it's from the chamomile plant. Hard to tell how much difference they're making but they seem to help a bit and can't be doing any harm!
Thanks for the tips about napping. DS still doesn't really have a routine although he usually sleeps well at night (hurrah!) we can't really predict or control the timings of day or night time sleeping. I haven't actually tried putting him down awake to see if he'll go to sleep by himself Blush I'm not hopeful but it could be worth a go! He loves being out and about but will also sleep in his pushchair if he's tired enough so that's good. I do try and get out at least every other day or I go a bit mad!
Glad your DS was OK after the 12 week jabs (mine was too thankfully) and hope he likes his jumperoo! Smile

Carolann8584 · 15/06/2017 12:42

The only times I can say is her nap routine is from 8:30 til the earliest midnight latest 3:30am! Then from 8am til 10:30am. During the night she will wake for feed/ feeds but goes back in the Moses after to drift off herself.

Still worried DD hasn't had her jabs yet, couldn't have then coz of the possibility of chicken pox and now she has them I have to wait until she's been clear of spots for a week. She's 12 weeks today, was 12lbs on last weighing

MotherofA · 15/06/2017 14:43

Carol there's no need to worry about that at all honestly . Some people choose not to vaccinate so a few extra weeks won't harm her xx

NameChange30 · 15/06/2017 16:23

Hugh
I bought a teething glove but it's huge! Even though DS is also huge (7.95kg when I got him weighed a few days ago Shock) it still seems way too big for him!

Carol
DS had his vaccinations a bit late but the HCPs didn't seem too bothered. I'm sure an extra week or two is nothing to worry about. Hope the chicken pox clears up soon! At least she won't get it again - apparently it's worse the older they are.

Carolann8584 · 15/06/2017 21:37

Thanks ladies I didn't even think about those who choose not to have them, will try and stop worrying now Smile

After a busy day visiting Nana's houses, DD had an extra 2 hour nap starting at 5:30! Thought she wouldn't go down as usual at 8:30 but after a cuddle, a clean nappy and pjs she had her 8pm feed. Fell asleep on my shoulder as I burped her, she's now back in her Moses snoozing away.

Going to get an early night myself soon just in case she stays awake after her 4:30am feed to make up for the extra 2 hours before bedtime.Smile

Carolann8584 · 16/06/2017 12:24

Well DD didn't wake until 2:30am for next feed so didn't have 4:30 feed she went straight through to 6:30am.

Starting to feel a bit of a pattern to her naps during the day, she's had her morning nap and has been singing Grin which has worn her out so is snoozing now letting me have some lunch Smile

purpleviolet1 · 16/06/2017 19:03

8-6.30pm that's great Carol!! Grin

Ds been a bit more windy today, fighting the bottle and chewing the teat and sucking hands furiously. I've got those chamomila granules so just gave him them for the first time. Hopefully they will help!

Admittedly DS had only 2 x 40min naps yesterday and the odd catnap here and there and was a little grumpy but he slept from 11pm till 8am! Even then he only woke when he heard the bottle being shaken... usually he would have woken at 5am for a feed.

Could this be the start of sleeping through??

Amazing! Congrats on the house and on DS's long sleep Smile
Mine slept for nearly 9 hours the night before last, we could hardly believe it! He also slept for over 8 hours a while ago. Still very unpredictable though!
