So my 9 day old baby boy was delivered by emcs at 37+5 gestation due to presenting breech (waters broke and contractions started). First baby so lots to learn!

Currently giving him expressed milk and formula topup. We tried breastfeeding but there was latch issues, he got very frustrated as he wasn't getting satisfied and my nipple was cracked and bleeding within a couple of days. I then got blocked ducts and the whole thing was a disaster really. I feel like a bit of a failure and did get help from bf clinic for the latch but it was little too late. With the c section recovery I just feel too exhausted to have him on the boob constantly and least with formula he is getting some decent sleep (although I'm usually expressing during this time so don't get a proper rest).

Oh and his fussy time is between 10pm -2am. He tends to feed and need winded on repeat between this time. It's exhausting but tonight I had a nap from 7-10pm in anticipation.

Come and join me for some chat...

Sorry I forgot who said use olive oil for cradle cap, thanks it's starting to work the dry skin has started to come away, it's forming a loose layer on her head should I wipe it away or let it come way itself?

I have both so can try that as well Smile

Mother, Hugh and Carol
Thanks for the tips about bottles and teats. DH has tried the MAM teat twice now (at different times of day) but DS wouldn't take it Sad We still have the NUK teats left to try but I'm not hugely hopeful given how upset he got with the others - DH said he starts crying as soon as he sees the bottle Confused Sad

Carol
I think you can remove the loose cradle cap by rubbing gently with a wet rough flannel or a dry soft baby hairbrush.

That's exactly what I'm terrified of Sad

Carolann8584 · 24/06/2017 15:32

The worst of her cradle cap has come away now just light bits here and there now. Will her hair grow ok where the bad bits were? Her dark hair does seem to be getting lighter

purpleviolet1 · 24/06/2017 20:12

Sorry to hear about the bottle feeding name change, persevere because babies change like the wind! DS loved his baths but last few times been screaming as soon as he has been put in SadSadSad

Hey Carol, it was me that said about olive oil . I just left it to come away naturally . Her hair will grow fine , my nieces went all patchy but has grown back now Smile
Hope things get better Name bless you.

Thanks mother

Have a new date for DDs jabs! 4th. Only now noticed she is having 3 instead of 4 jabs, she isn't having the ROTA jab for some reason. It's listed on her last appointment card but not on this one

NameChange30 · 26/06/2017 21:00

Thank you purple and Mother, we did follow your advice and persevere, and DH has had some success by distracting DS! He's not drinking loads from the bottle - we think he's just having enough milk to take the edge off the hunger until he can breastfeed again - but at least he's stopped refusing it completely. My theory is that teething is to blame as he's been dribbling and chewing loads, and seems to be crying in pain Sad so maybe (hopefully!) when the teething calms down he might be better with a bottle.

purple
Hope your little one starts liking the bath again! Do you have any bath toys?

MotherofA · 26/06/2017 22:56

DD had second lot of jabs today it wasn't as bad as first lot. Couldn't believe it when she said more in 4 weeks ! Sad
I visited GP about this lump and I'm super unimpressed with her response .
Is everyone waiting until the 6 month mark to wean ? I'm going to start at 16 weeks as she loves sucking on cucumber and melon for her teeth and I started at 4 months with DD . Just veg first off though blended .

hugh I think she was really lucky with them, little bit of decrease in appetite a few days before the spots but that could have been because of the heat as well. She didn't seem to be irritated by the itching and she didn't have a temperature. All cleared up now. Still has 1 on her face but that was the worse one as it's the one that got wet all the time

What was baby led weaning like Hugh ? I know a couple of people who do a bit of both .

Just catching up after a few days!

Namechange - try anbesol liquid for the teething, it's definitely more effective than bonjela and the likes. DS is also having good and bad days re teething and drinking milk properly and he doesn't mix feed. Hopefully it will pass!

We don't have any bath toys yet but I was thinking I should get some!

MotherofA - I was considering weaning early but I thought 17 weeks was the earliest they recommend.. with the reflux the HCP said it could help. However with the milk allergy he will need to be under a dietician which will require a referral. We have a catch up with the GP early July so will see what happens.

As Hugh said can you get a second opinion??

Sooo cute Carol!!!

My DD has very sharp gums but I can't see any little peggys coming through yet. She loves gumming on her fists, muslin squares or my fingers at the moment.

On my OHs side of the family no child has ever had a tooth before their first birthday so wonder if she will follow the trend.

DS's naps are all over the place Sad Sometimes he hardly naps at all. Yesterday he wasn't eating well or sleeping, and was crying with what seemed to be pain, and the usual teething gel and ring didn't seem to be helping, so I cracked and gave him some Calpol, and he slept for most of the afternoon!! So I think the teething pain has been stopping him from napping properly Sad

Thanks for the tip purple, I'll look into Anbesol.
